Hugh's Energy is a quality company and it starts at the top with owner-President, Tom Dromgoole. Tom made a site visit to my home to discuss details of the insulation including the process, timing, and outcomes; he answered all of my questions. He also came the day of the insulation to check on how things were going. His crew, led by Parris, was excellent - knowledgeable, efficient and clean. If you are considering insulating your home, just call this company and save yourself time.

Hugh's was a real pleasure to work with. The work was done well and fast, and they continued to be available for questions we had even after the work was done. I would hire them again.

Hugh’s Energy has done two jobs at my house, one for the attic and the other for a kitchen renovation, both using blown-in cellulose. They’re prompt, responsive, do quality work, and are reasonably priced. They also cleaned up very well, which matters because cellulose installation is very messy. Very happy with their work, and they work with MA Save.

From the initial call, the service was excellent! They were prompt in responding and kept us informed of the steps in the process. They made every effort to accommodate our schedule. The workers were prompt, courteous, neat, and thorough. It was a job well-done! We would definitely recommend Hugh's Energy Conservation.

We are beyond pleased with the services provided by Hughes. Their workers were exceptional. They showed up on time, were polite, explained the process as the job progressed, answered all our questions and were extremely respectful of our home. They cleaned up as they went along and were very quiet. This was not an easy job. The slant roof and small space must have made this job all the more challenging because you can't stand up straight. The guys still managed to get it done within the time frame they had committed to and never once complained. The works looks very professional and our home feels so much more comfortable than it was before we insulated.

Following a MassSave audit, about 6 months ago Hugh's insulated our garage. We were very pleased with their work. When we decided to do additional work and insulate our attic, I called Tom again to arrange for Hugh's to do the work. It went very well. I would definitely recommend them to others.

the insulation work was done in our third floor through Mass Save. i hope it was done well, but no way to tell since it is all hidden in the walls ; ) however, the guys scratched our newly-refinished wood floors during the job which was in march 2018 and i am still trying to get the owner to reimburse us for the damage (now it's mid-august). they are insured; all they have to do is make a claim with their insurance...i am very unhappy. i just want this to be resolved, and i have not heard from the owner since june.

Ralph, Patrick and Jose were careful, covered everything in the garage before beginning work, and cleaned up in the garage, attic, and access to the house before leaving. They checked in with me a few times during the day to be sure I understood what they were doing.

Our installer showed up on time and did a quick walk-through of the job that had been assigned by MassSave. We were both not very happy about the way that MassSave had recommended insulating the basement, and the fact that they had left our smaller basement addition off of the scope of work. Our house is from the early 1800s, so I was nervous about shoddy work. After looking at the situation, Hugh's installer suggested that, "he was just going to do it the right way." This meant ordering additional materials and a lot of extra work cutting and fitting foam board to properly seal the basement. He figured out and quoted the extra charge, which was very small! The materials showed up in the next hour, along with another installer to help prep everything. After insulating the entire basement (not just the part that they had been called out for), he installed an attic stair cover that required extensive carpentry. The result is a great airtight seal. What was supposed to be a 4 hr job turned into almost a full day. Hugh's team was polite, punctual, and very detail oriented. They left our house clean and tidy. We have been extremely pleased with the results. Our house is noticeably warmer on recent colder days. Thanks for taking pride in your work and going the extra mile to do the job right! If you MassSave work to be done, I highly recommend picking Hugh's by name.

Mr. Tom Dromgoole and his team did an excellent job.
The people who work for him are an excellent team.
They were punctual, and very efficient.
They were polite and well mannered.
Really do not know how good a job they did, as I do not know much on these matters, but feel they did a good job.
Will know after the coming winter to see how much we saved on the gas bill.
Filled the cost as $200. Actually I do not remember the exact amount we paid.
The cost of the insulation was subsidized by MassSaves.

Plan on having them insulate the walls of our home in 2016.
Tom and his team are superb.
I moved to MA in 2014, and had a terrible time with Ice Dams in the Winter/causing a lot of damage. I found Tom on Angie's List and asked him, along with 2 other Insulation providers, to give me a quote. From the moment I met Tom, I could tell he was a no-nonsense-get-it-done guy - he told me immediately where the problems were, and what had to be done to get stuff fixed, not just for Insulation but also regarding the ice dam damage we had had.
Then his team came in July and boy, they were good. They did a superb job imo (I am an engineer so somewhat knowledgeable about this stuff); in the process of doing the insulation, his team even found a whole second roof section inside my house that had been built over many years ago, and they insulated that too - this area was the cause of the ice dams and they found it, and took care of it.
Tom's team is superb. They know what they are doing, they get it done right and they take care of business.
The crew from Hugh's Energy was punctual and professional and seemed to do a good job on the work.
Working from a Mass Save contract poses certain challenges since the insulation contractor is performing work according to a plan set up by an outside party, the Mass Save auditor. I especially appreciated that Hugh's Energy was very flexible in adapting to a couple of small hiccups in the plan as they received it from Mass Save.
I could not be more disappointed with Hugh's Energy and I would STRONGLY advise anyone looking for insulation services to LOOK ELSEWHERE.
I participated in the Mass Save program to get insulation for my house built in 1953 (before insulation was really part of the norm). I needed insulation in the eaves and attic of my cape style home, as well as blown insulation throughout the house.
Mass Save has a great program that heavily discounts insulation services and they usually assign a contractor to you (the prices are set, there's no point in trying to shop around). if you have a house with any weird quirks - I have an attic / crawl space that is quite small and not all companies may be equipped to access it - you need to select a company from the approved list and have them come out to view your home to make sure they can do the job.
I called Hugh's Energy because their Dedham location is mere minutes from my house. And to their credit, the owner Tom came out quickly to confirm that they could do the job in 2 days. However, scheduling the actual work was a whole other story.
The process of going through Mass Save is rather laborious and I stayed on top of Mass Save so I could get the job scheduled quickly (I had siding being installed that needed to happen right after blown insulation). I came to find out that nearly a week after mass save approved the job, Hugh's still hadn't accepted the contract. I called and emailed the company and Tom several times, to no avail. I finally got a manager on the phone - Shawn (or Sean?) - who was very helpful and scheduled the job. Shawn said the job would be 3 days - he confirmed the first two days of the job but someone would call me back to confirm the 3rd day.
Three weeks went by and no one called to confirm the 3rd day. I called back and got Tom on the phone, who insisted the job would be only 2 days and said we did not need a 3rd day. I think, ok great.
On the first day of the job, the crew did show up - not punctually, despite being located close to my house. I wound up being late for work. In talking to the crew (and Adam and the other crew members were very nice), I was told the job would DEFINITELY be 3 days. Since this was contrary to what I heard from the owner, I called back. He yelled at me that the crew was wrong and it would be done in 2 days.
On the second day, the crew confirmed they would need a third day. I called the owner Tom again, who yelled at me and insisted they would finish that day. I also noticed a huge crack in my wall from the blown insulation that I was told would be fixed immediately (it took several days to be done, though to Adam's credit they did a great job fixing it - poor workmanship from prior owner was the real culprit there).
At the conclusion of the second day, I arrive home and they tell me they will not finish that day but they will be back the following Monday ABSOLUTELY to finish the job. I in fact saw Shawn on site (delivering drywall to fix the wall) who also confirmed Monday morning to finish the work. Because I have animals in the house and had a second crew starting work on Monday, I really needed to have everything coordinated perfectly (had to put animals in a certain room of the house, etc.). I called Tom to confirm Monday, he did not answer his cell phone and did not return several emails or calls I made to his office.
Monday morning rolls around and...no crew. When I call Tom to find out why they are late, he insists they were never going to come monday, and it would be Tuesday. When I said I had absolutely confirmed monday, he told me that I was simply wrong. And that, in fact, the only reason his crew did not finish on Friday was because I did not provide them access to a bedroom where they needed to complete work. That was the most nonsensical thing I had ever heard and told him so, and he proceeded to scream at me that I was lying and that's what I told him. He then hung up on me. I finally reached Shawn later that day who confirmed Tuesday and was unbelievably apologetic.
When the crew arrived on Tuesday (with Tom), they apologized - the crew actually told me they had told Tom they needed to come back Monday and he said no. They actually asked NOT to return on Tuesday because they knew how furious I would be! It was very clear that everyone was on the same page EXCEPT Tom. The work did finally get finished on Tuesday, except that they did forget to install weather stripping on the doors and Shawn did return this week to fix that work.
The work was generally done well except I still found insulation all over my house, both inside and outside. The crew did not do a good job cleaning the insulation, and even left a bag of blown insulation remains on my front lawn. I wasn't thrilled with the company overall, but the work was fine. The communication with the owner Tom, however, was probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. STAY AWAY.
