I contacted Hunter & Sons Electric on April 21, 2015 via Angie's list to set up appointment to complete the three things I needed done: replace two ceiling lights and to fix whatever was causing my outdoor outlet to flip the breaker switch within 10 minutes to 1 hour of use.

Per Angie's list parameter's, I was supposed to hear back from the vendor within a week. I thought I would receive a call, but I got an email posted on the last day of the week. It said to call to set up an appointment, which I did, already slightly disappointed that a week had gone by and none of the days I requested for an appointment were apparently available. I left a message and received a call-back the next day. Kevin Hunter called and I told him I was eager to have work completed as soon as possible. He said the soonest he could come was two weeks. I was disappointed, but I was very impressed by the company's high rating on Angie's list, so we went ahead and set the appointment up.

The day he was supposed to be here came and went and no contact from Kevin. I called him the next day to find out what happened. He said an emergency came up involving some city inspectors and he had to take care of it, but he said he texted me that he couldn't make it. Hmmm. Well, that wasn't going to work because I only have a land line. Of course, Kevin assumed I had a smartphone, but I'm a grandma and have an old flip phone that doesn't even take pictures, and I only use it if I'm going on a trip.

Now three weeks and a couple days have gone by since my initial request. Kevin was very apologetic and said he could come two days from now, right after a 10 AM meeting he had with a car dealership. He finally got to my house around 6 PM. He was very nice and installed the dinning room and hall lights with no problem.

They look ed good and worked fine. Then he looked at the outside outlet, and said he'd have to come back to fix that. The soonest he could come was 5/8/15. He was supposed to come in the morning, but called me to tell me it would be later in the afternoon because he had another problem to fix. Okay. He did finally get to me late that afternoon. He diagnosed the problem as bad switch and outlet which were both 15 A instead of the 20 A they should be. He was able to replace both well within the standard hour which cost $130.

I left for a week's vacation on 5/12 and asked my son-in-law to pump the water off the pool cover now that the outdoor outlet was fixed. While I was gone, he managed to get most of it pumped off, but after 30 minutes, the breaker flipped - the exact same problem we had before Kevin "fixed" it. When I got back I called Kevin, not happy at all that he hadn't really fixed the problem at all. He said there must be a nick or break or something with the wiring somewhere and it could be a hard to find and fix. But I needed the pool filter to work, especially since the time to open the pool for the summer was fast approaching. The soonest he could set up an appointment with me was 6/4/15. I was beginning to worry since the pool people were coming to open the pool on 6/8/15! Not so wonderful since I actually began the process of getting this fixed with Kevin on 4/21/15.

Well, 6/4/15 came and went, and no call or email from Kevin. He simply did not show up or contact me. I had to cancel my appointment with the pool people, who now can't come until 6/17.

My poor rating of Hunter& Sons electric is based on his inaccessibility, lack of punctuality and his unprofessionalism in meeting his commitments. I suspect that he has way over extended himself and just can't meet the expectations of his "small" customers. If I were a city inspector or a car dealership, I'm sure he would not have "stood me up." Kevin was personally VERY nice and apologetic but bottom line, I still don't have a working outdoor outlet. I am now going to check Angie's list for another electrician and hope I have better luck. I would never call Hunter Electric again for anything.
