We had too many issues, delays, excuses to count. Our 6 week basement project turned into 6 months and then he didn't finish the last large piece. We had to get new contractors to finish and fix some of his work which cost way more than our last payment due. A year later, we have even been contacted by one of his subcontractors that he hasn't paid. It would take me days to write all the details - in the end, buyer beware!

He came and did some of the work. When he did come he would sometimes show up later than he said he would or I would have to try and get a hold of him to see where he was or if he was even coming that day. Some days he would never show up and he would say I will come later in the week and sometimes he would, sometimes he would not. He ended up not finishing the jobs that we asked him to do.  The railing was loose going down our steps into the basement, one of his workers came to fix that and Jim was supposed to come later that morning, Jim never showed up and his worker just left because he didn't know what to do next and he left the wall not repainted after putting the railing back.  He also left our utility room half painted and left the pole in our recreation room unpainted as well.  Jim had said this would be quick jobs but instead took a lot longer than expected because he kept not coming or coming late or leaving very early in the day.  We also wanted Jim to start work in February on painting the upstairs of our house and installing a backsplash in our kitchen as well as a microwave.  We will not be hiring him again since we have not heard from him after saying he would show up one day and he never did and never responded to me either.  We will be going with someone more reliable in February!! <br />

I'm not one to leave a negative review, especially when it involves someone's livelihood, but our experience with Jim turned out to be not good in the end. Our main complaint stems from a quoted 3 week time frame that has turned to 17 weeks and counting. The problem had to do with Jim?s lack of control of his subcontractors - the electrician, the plumber, and the tile guy. Had these people done their job right the first time, or quickly come to fix their mistakes in their work, things would have been better. Every step of the way with Jim was like pulling teeth. We have been given so many unmet deadlines and have literally heard every excuse in the book (some multiple times) with this project. The project is mostly finished, but we discovered that our new plumbing drips from the toilet into our backyard every time it is flushed - so we have a new bathroom that drips raw sewage. It?s been that way for over 2 months now and Jim has not fixed it. He also promised to reattach our stair rail which he has not done. <br /> Some other issues throughout the process: the electrician did something wrong and then we were without electricity in our one usable bathroom for 5+ weeks until he could find the time to come. The tile guy wouldn?t show up, so Jim tiled the floor and shower himself and the quality of install is not so great. A faucet wasn't checked when installed and didn't work - another 3 weeks of waiting for the plumber to feel like coming. <br /> The only thing I can recommend them for is drywall, doors, trim, painting, and fixture installation - but honestly, after dealing with all the issues, I would recommend you look elsewhere. Cleanup was minimal and consisted of them taking their tools but leaving all the dust and a bunch of random building supplies. Since it became clear he was not working to finish our job, I asked for the contact info for his plumber and the keys to my house back. He hasn't given me either after weeks of requests that he do so. Just excuse after excuse. Scary! I would beware. <br />

Jim is awesome. Super responsive, quality work, competitive price, great crew. I had a number of things I needed done in remodeling my first floor, and he was able to take care of all of them. Looks great. When we ran into issues not clear at start of the project (as you always do), Jim worked right through them until things were in great shape. Feel confident that you'll get a good deal and quality work when you hire Jim. <br />

He had replaced my drywall ceiling and did an OK job.  I like how he took the time to make sure to put plastic covering all over the room to keep the room clean.  It seemed to be a thorough job with care.  However, the ceiling had a lot of rough spots left still, so I tried to get him back to correct this.  I scheduled a time and day and he confirmed, but messaged me that day he couldn't make it, but insisted he would come the next day.  I took off work to meet him the next day and he never showed and I never heard a word again.   <br /> I don't normally write these reviews, but I got a big problem with spending a lot of money and having to finish a job off myself and I got a big problem with using paid time off and not only having someone not show up, but not even getting a message.   <br /> <br /> <br />

Hunt General Contracting is very responsive, professional, and communicative. They took care to minimize dust and dings while installing new walls and floors. The old plaster walls and popcorn ceiling looks brand new with their excellent skimming job. The floors were installed without complications. I will be using these guys again in the future for general contracting work. <br />

I asked for a awning he put a five inch piece of wood and waterproof the wood with metal and the door still leaks that what i called him for because it leaks. He did a great job on sink he never came back to get money for sink because he knows the door still leaks.  <br />

<p>I live in a Toll Brother's built townhouse, with a typical unfinished concrete basement.  The space is great for storage and little else. The time came to finish it for more usable space, ok a man cave of sorts, but still able to support some storage needs. After searching Angie?s List, my first phone call was to Hunt's General Contracting. I really can't say anything specific in the reviews that grabbed, they just did.  Anyhow, I called and left a message, which was returned moments later by Jim Hunt himself.  Jim quickly arranged to provide an estimate at my convenience.  Now I can?t say for sure how it compared to other estimates, because quite frankly, I was sold on Jim from that point.  Now I do believe that I was given an extremely fair price, don?t get me wrong, it?s just that I wanted Hunt?s Contracting to do the work so I was not going any further. </p> <p>As I mentioned early on, this is a Toll Brother?s built property, so you must understand that the initial quality, is well bad.  In fact if I ever meet any of the Toll family, well some things are better left unsaid.  But Jim and his guys worked around the many defects Toll left in its wake. Walls not being straight, plumbing and electrical lines in the most awkward of places, all were corrected and all new construction was right to code.  Jim?s plan for the basement created storage space in what would have otherwise really been dead space.  Now I have tons of ?usable? storage and still enough room for ME.  And MY space is just awesome.   I can see almost every ?sheet rock seam? in the rest of the house.  In the basement, guess how many.  Not one.  Not even where Jim and his crew had to work their magic on the one existing wall that was crooked, yes crooked.  Not that you can tell now.  The doors, the wood work, the trim, all A quality craftsmanship.  </p> <p>Jim was the selling point, but his crew was top notch as well.  Personable, hard working guys, who treated my house like it was their own.  I still have no idea how they got all the sheetrock down without destroying the walls and yet they did.  Clean, neat and professional.  I could keep the adjectives coming, but I believe I have made my point.  Would I use them again?  Absolutely! Would I recommend them?  Absolutely.   Fair, hardworking, honest, professional, and skilled at what they do.  You can?t really ask for any more.</p> <br />

Jim and his guys were absolutely great to work with...  I've never had the privilege of working with a contractor that was so punctual and knowledgeable before. <br /> Throughout the entire project, Jim and his crew (2-5 guys depending on what was being done on a specific day) were punctual... showing up at 7AM every day.  They always responded to phones calls, texts and emails without fail.  Saying these guys are good communicators is an understatement and I am glad that I have found "my contractor." <br /> They started with the messiest project first, of course... the ceiling. Scraping, sanding, skimming multiple times to bring my 80s ceiling into the current century.  The texture had been painted over so many times in the past but this group made quick work of it.  They covered everything in plastic to protect furniture that I couldn't remove in advance and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day.  In the first couple of days they focused on getting as much done to the ceiling as possible before hitting a point where they just had to wait for things to dry. <br /> Once the ceiling dry time gate was gone, they really began spending full days at my home to ensure they stuck to their projected schedule (and to help ensure I had my home available for some pre-planned social events). <br /> They pulled up carpet, began laying flooring, preparing for the walls to be painted and baseboard to be replaced.  Their attention to detail was great... picking up on things that needed to be done that my wife and I hadn't necessarily noticed and clearly taking pride in their work.  They continued to be very communicative, letting us know what was happening, what the plans were for a given day, etc etc. <br /> There were never any "surprise issues" that they tried to charge me for... actually, any time they found anything or we had small requests or tweaks they handled it without issue and seemed to hold getting the job done right and making us happy above anything else. <br /> I cannot stress enough how much I've come to trust these guys in the last 2 weeks... knowing all of them by name and getting to know their personalities.  These are good guys.  They didn't make us feel like we were in the way or a bother if we had questions or wanted to see something. <br /> They also took a lot of care to minimize the impact on our daily life.  The work was mostly done in our living and dining room (in addition to stairways, hallways, etc) so some impact is unavoidable.  For example, when the flooring wasn't 100% complete, they laid flooring in the primary walking path from our front door so that we had flooring to walk on (instead of the concrete below).  There were a lot of small things like that, where the Hunt group really just went out of their way to make the renovation a pleasant experience for us. <br /> The flooring was put down, baseboard, and the walls got painted... all in all the project stuck to it's 1.5 week estimate.  We were walked through all the work multiple times to ensure we were happy and address any questions/concerns/etc. <br /> It really turned out great, we are so thrilled with the way our home has been transformed. <br /> After the work was officially completed and I shook everyone's hand for what I thought was the final time on this project... they stepped up once again to help me.  We had another group out to do some electrical work and run wiring for a new home theater and they created some holes in the walls.  Well, I sent Jim a text message that evening and asked if he could help me.  Not only did he come out the next morning to get the holes fixed for me, he didn't even charge me for it.  He really wanted us to be happy with the result of all of the work that had been done. <br /> In summary, I really feel very thankful to have met Jim through Angie's List.  We had a lot of past experiences with contractors, good and bad... but I am glad that I have found "our guy."  He takes a lot of pride in his teams work and takes a genuine interest in the way his customer feels at the end of the project. <br /> Really great experience... Jim and I are already talking about the rest of our short and long term "home project list." <br />

Hunt General Contracting installed my attic in a single day, after some of the other contractors I had asked had given me estimates of "1 week" and "we don't work weekends". ONE day, and for a great price as well-- lower than any of the competitors. The workers were all courteous and definitely knew what they were doing. When I asked "could we do this or this" they gave honest and knowledgeable answers. I'd definitely recommend this contractor again. <br />

The project went very smoothly and whenever we had a question or concern about certain aspects of the job, Jim Hunt and his crew were responsive.   Jim and his crew were punctual, professional and cared about the quality of their work.   We would and already have recommended him to our neighbors. <br />

I'll be using them again. They were clean, on time, communicated, did great work above what I expected. But most importantly they take care of you the customer. Friendly professional folks, no pressure, and they treat you like the most important customer. I had more than a few changes along the way, Jim and his crew made sure I was 100% satisfied. Up next...my floors! <br />

We had a really great experience.  Jim was very attentive and responsive.  The crew did a great job trying to keep things as clean as they could possibly be with that kind of work being done.  They arrived at or around 7:30 each day and always gave us an update at the end of the day about where they were and what was going to be done the next day.  They accommodated every request we had for the project.  When they were close to the end, my husband and I caught a few things that needed to be fixed and Jim was right there with his crew to fix them.  They even caught something that we didn't!  <br /> The final result is a beautiful bathroom and nice ceilings.  We will definitely use this contractor again for future projects. <br />

It went very well.  The various contractors came every morning at 7:30 and they were all (the electrician, the painters, the mason, the carpet installer) professional.  They were all friendly and open to discussing my particular desires for the space. Jim was also easy to reach when he wasn't on-site, via email for any questions we had. <br />

It went great.  There was something I wasn't totally happy with but, Jim came back the next day with two other men and made the correction.   Very happy with the work and highly recommend his company. <br />

Once we got in touch with each other (my emails were going to spam), things fell into place pretty quickly.  He sent an estimate, which looked good, and started on the work quickly in order to complete it before we moved into the house. <br /> The popcorn ceiling removal was a hot, demanding job in the summer.  What made it more difficult was the fact that under the popcorn, a lot of the ceiling had not been taped or sealed.  Lots of finishing and repairs were required before they could prime and paint it.  They repaired nail pops as well. <br /> The underlayment, flooring and trim went in afterwards.  All of it looks terrific and very professional.  The stairs look great as well, as the carpenter was very detail-oriented.   <br /> Jim and his crew are really nice people and very helpful.  I will be hiring them again to put in windows and paint inside.  I highly respect his work.

The owner came right out to my property, on time, and was ready to work. He had all the tools he needed to do the work and even had an assistant with him. Jim was very prompt and professional in my facility. He spoke clearly and was very easy to understand. While he was here, I needed a favor and he was willing to help without question. I will absolutely be using this company again not only at this facility, but at my other one as well for big and small projects. I highly recommend him if you want accurate and professional work completed. <br />

Jim and his crew showed up on time and early in the day. They were  finished with the demolition in a couple of hours. They had the new drywall on the ceiling and the first coat of spackling applied within another hour. They cleaned up and removed all debris. Jim came back a couple of days later (over the holiday weekend) to sand and apply a second coat of spackling. The following Monday they finished sanding and got the painting done all in one day.Again, they cleaned up. We were very pleased with their prompt service and professionalism. I would highly recommend Hunt General contracting. <br />
