Jacobs Construction and Masonry

I was told multiple times that the crew would take 3-5 days to complete the job. Three days to demo, one day to prep and one day to pour. The time frame was important. I spent a lot of money opening/operating my pool and needed to shut it down and cover it for the work to be done. They were three weeks late starting the job. The 1st day of work they did not show and the owner never called. I called him and was told the crew was working another job and would be at my home the next morning to start. The next morning a new hire and the owner up showed and he spent an hour showing his employee how to work a jack hammer. They left after this and this 1st day resulted in only a few hours of work being done. There was no other crew that ever showed up this person with no experience over the next 4 days would perform 90% of the work. In total only 30 hours of work was done. I called other concrete companies to come in to assess what was done. They were confused and concerned to why the work up to this point was managed in this way. The concrete was pulverized and then left for days. The owner was to come back and continue jackhammering and then begin removing the rubble, but we were advised by two other professional concrete companies in Bloomington to stop work immediately as it was fully apparent that the owner was in over his head and lacked the experience and manpower to complete the job safely. Our concrete deck touches the backside of our house and our stone fireplace and the biggest concern was that he would compromise the actual structure of our home. Ultimately we parted ways as we were unwilling to risk the damage that could have occurred and owner agreed that he owed us money back from the deposit we paid. Once he picked up his tools, we never heard from him again. He kept every penny of the deposit we gave him for work that was done incorrectly and for a job that has left us worse off than we started. Due to his incompetency, we lost all money spent to open our pool and get it up and running ($800), our entire deposit ($2,000), and an additional $2,400 for another company to clean up the mess he made.
