After I requested an appointment using the Jay Ell Plumbing & Heating web site, I got a callback from Don asking when he could come by to see what actually needed to be down and the parts required. We made the follow appointment for two days later around 9:00am. On Friday, Don showed up on time, with all the necessary parts. For the washing machine, he brought and installed quality, stainless steel washing machine hoses. When we tested, the washer would not fill with cold water. Don disconnected, checked, and reconnected the hoses and it worked. However, the next time I went to do laundry, no cold water again without a lot of flicking controls and playing with the wall valves. My guess is the new hoses are allowing more water to the valve and the increased pressure on the ancient valve is causing it to fail. I now recall in the past there was a rare occurrence of this behavior. Bottom line, Don did a great job. For the kitchen, he caulked and replaced the drain. I had also mentioned that the joint where the underlying piping joins the wall pipe would leak if I moved the drain even slightly. Don noted the piping was not configured properly but I do not recall why. He corrected the problem by replacing the plastic piping from the drain to the wall pipe with metal. The entire visit took about 3 hours and everything is working great (except the washer but that's an appliance problem).

The plumber came right on time, listened to our complaint, got to work and had it fixed in no time. He had suggestions for a replacement when we were ready and even gave suggestions about another plumbing issue. He was personable and friendly and we would/will definitely call him for our next problem.

Very well. Don was able to analyze the problem from cell phone pictures we sent him and did a very efficient job correcting it upon his arrival. We would definitely hire him again.

Not good. While the sink was full of water that would no longer drain, a clamp broke off the pipe under the sink and flooded under my sink, in my kitchen, and into my dining room almost to my heating vents. I had to help clean it up because the water continued to pour out from under the sink and he didn't try to find something to stop it. Black water leaked down the wall into my basement. I will have to wait to see if I have water damage. So a drain that was slow to drain, no longer would drain at all after this plumber finished. I had to get another plumber who said the job should not have been snaked under the sink but from the line in the basement. It cost me an additional $195 on December 23 @ 8pm, luckily I was able to get someone that night and not on Christmas Eve which would have cost more.
Response from Jay Ell Plumbing & Heating Inc
"Yes this was an bad day for me and the customer. When i showed up the one compartment of the two compartment sink was draining. When i looked under the sink i noticed the P-trap was installed backwards and other waste piping was not right. I disconnected the waste piping and found grease clogged in most of the fittings. Cleaned out all the fittings and reconnected and ran water. Both compartments backed started to back up. Drained water from the fittings and disconnected piping under kitchen sink ran electric sewer machine through pipes. Did the same process about 3 times with no success. Every time i had to drain the piping under the kitchen sink there was a lot more water than it should have been because the p-trap was installed backwards. I could not put the trap the correct way because the waste coming out of the wall was too high and they have a very deep. So the last time i started to fill up the sink and i saw it was starting to back up the 1 1/2" plastic slip nut cracked in half at the lowest part of the drain line while water was still running. Shut the water off as fast as i could but with the water in the lines a lot of water went all over the place. Spent about an hour cleaning everything up. Replaced the defective nut on the p-trap ran water again, water backed. It was clogged solid with water was not draining at all. The reason it was clogged solid was with all the grease clogged in the fitting water was just tricking through the plastic tubing into the waste line so they was not a lot of water going into the waste line which was probably 90% clogged. After i cleaned all the plastic tubing now they was a lot of water going into the waste line and the waste line could not handle it so it back up. At that point i was not going to do anything else. Since the line totally clogged i could not disconnect any piping in the basement with out making another flood. I told the lady she needs a company that specializes in drain cleaning to come. So i packed up my tools left my business card and told her if there any damage please contact me. Spent 2.5 hours there and could not charge for anything. Regarding the other plumber when you come in after someone has done a lot of the work already and the homeowner is telling you what has already been done and has not worked it is very easy to what should have been done and what should not have been done. This a very humbling job one minute you are a king because you fixed or troubleshooted something that solved a problem. The next minute you can't seem to correct the problem or get anything to work right. He should know better than to say stuff like that."

Fixed the faucet, but not really happy with the way the on/off arm works. Couldn't fix the diverter because it would require cutting my wall.
Response from Jay Ell Plumbing & Heating Inc
"Don't understand what she means about the on/off arm. All i did was change a cartridge. Had to come back a second time to adjust the temperature because the water was not hot enough for her to take her bath. That was fine because when i left the first time the hot water was 110 degrees and i told her if it was not hot enough i would come back because i did not want to leave water to hot for anyone to get burned. She never mentioned she was unhappy with anything."

It ended up taking the plumber three hours to finish the work. He also ended up destroying the drain hose connection between the dishwasher and the drain. I had to have Sears come back out to reconnect the drain hose and it wound up costing me over $150 for the repair.
Response from Jay Ell Plumbing & Heating Inc
"Before i even agreed to do to the job i called her and told her it would more than one hour of work to install a new faucet and connect the drain for the kitchen sink and dishwasher. She agreed. Being in this business for over 20 years i had all the proper material to do the job even though she said she had the strainer for the sink i bought a more low profile one she had a 10" undermount sink with a granite countertop and a 15" high waste line. If i used her strainer i would not have been able to fit a connection for the dishwasher drain on the waste line. So when i showed up to the apartment and saw someone cut plastic boot off the the dishwasher drain hose i asked her who did that she said she disconnected it. It says on the plastic boot "DO NOT CUT" Because she cut it i spent an extra hour trying to connect it properly without it leaking. I could not do it because she cut so much of the plastic boot off the hose it would not fit over the pipe properly. On top of that there was a hole in the dishwasher drain hose."

Jay Ell Plumbing fixed two difficult leaks in tight, inaccessible spaces. In each case, they disconnected defective piping, furnished and installed flexible PEX piping and fitting, and reconnected to existing copper piping. Arrived punctually, worked hard and uninterruptedly for 4+ hours until complete. Worked smart to minimize cost. Work was neat and professional. Nice person. Will certainly use again.

We called with an emergency on a Saturday night.  He made some temporary suggestions over the phone, which allowed us to overhead the switch settings to reactivate the pump.  He came to our house as scheduled on time to permanently fix.  He saved a lot of time and expense by utilizing a camera and accessing the port on the tank.  The cause of the problem was excessive cooking grease build up.  The build up prevented the float from acting properly.  He cleaned out the grease and provided us with a reasonable maintenance chemicals to break down future problems.  He was prompt, friendly, responsive, knowledgeable and effective.  We will definitely use again in the future. <br />
