After calling several contractors and getting no response, I called Mr.Bickle and he was there the next day to give an estimate. After getting the OK from Insurance Co. I asked when the work could be completed. Mr. Bickle told me he would be there in 3 days. 3 days later the work was complete.

JB Roofing was hired in February of 2006 to evaluate our inspect and replace our existing sheathing, install shingle felt paper, install weather guard, install drip edge, install fiberglass shingles, replace flashing as needed and install aluminum ridge vent on our existing leaky roof.  They provided insurance coverage on all employees and a 10 year workman's guarantee on 100% of all labor.  At first we were satisfied with our decision to hire JB Roofing.  In September of 2006 we called them to address a minor concern with the roof which was taken care of promptly.  Over the next few years we noticed that the roof was deteriorating much faster than we expected.  Recently when we hired another contractor to install a bathroom fan vent, he spoke with us about the poor condition of our roof.  He observed that the roof "appeared to be wearing from excessive heat & moisture build up inside the attic space"  Not only were "the shingles curled on top", the "existing sheathing is bowed, worn and failing".  Our contractor mentioned that we should have had  ridge vent installed to prevent this from happening.  Unfortunately JB Roofing had never installed the ridge vent which was listed on our contract.  Not wanting to believe this was all happening so soon, we consulted with a second local contractor for a second opinion.  Both contractors noted the poor condition of the roof and agreed that it needed to be completely replaced after only 6 years!  When we confronted JB Roofing with these facts, they agreed to have someone come to look at the house.  At first they insisted that the other contractors were just trying to bad mouth them because of some sort of contractor drama.  I honestly don't have time for this unprofessional behavior, so we were persistent with our complaints and facts about the roof.  Eventually, after months of phone calls and missed appointments, they agreed to come and replace the areas where the shingles were failing and the sheathing was soft.  We were clear that we needed to see what they proposed to replace in writing before they had our permission to do the work.  We did not trust the company at this point and their unprofessional behavior was a red flag to us.  After another month of waiting, we arrived home one day to find out they had entered our property and worked on our home without our knowledge or permission!  They had installed the ridge vent, replaced a few shingles and poorly installed a bit of new sheathing, not half of what really needed replacing.  Long story, but a sad one.  I really wish we had hired a reputable contractor in the first place when we just needed new shingles instead of hiring JB Roofing.  Now we need an entire new roof at three times the original cost.  I took the time to write this in hopes of saving someone else the frustration and money it has cost my husband and I, so if I was you, I'd learn from my mistakes and choose another contractor. <br />

JB Roofing provided prompt and courteous service, from estimate to completion of the roofing. <br /> The job proceeded smoothly and was completed on the third day. One hour after the roofers departed, a severe and prolonged thunderstorm proved their workmanship top notch. After each day's work, the crew cleaned up debris and nails, and on the last day cleaned the gutter guards, driveway and landscape beds. They swept thoroughly and used powerful magnets to collect the old roofing nails. <br /> Thumbs up to JB Roofing. <br />

Overall the work was good.  However, I had a major problem with the gutter cleaning and cleanup afterward.  I spent nearly two hours  ripping off gutter covers and cleaning out more than twenty feet of gutter with some serious moss clogging.  In addition, I had to purchase a large magnet at Home Depot to search my yard and driveway for roofing nails that were not picked up.  This took me about three hours of running the magnet over grass and parts my gravel driveway where I park two cars.  I retrieved a total of 112 roofing nails from the yard and driveway.  Both the gutter cleaning and sweeps for nails were a part of the contract.  I hope I don't end up with a flat tire on either vehicle or my riding mower if I have missed any nails.  I called Mr. Bickle to inform him of my dissatisfaction. <br />

Crew of four men who were very diligent, professional and got the job done right. They did a excellent job. The roof looks tremendous and they are perfectionist.The supervisor came out and checked on the work as well. They took a magnet and went over the surrounding area to make sure there were no left over nails. They cleaned up very well. They even did extra work by putting shingles on a bay window.  Checked all the gutters and found one that was clogged up and they unclogged it at no charge. They replaced all the flanges, took off the satellite dish and put in back in the same spot afterward and the TV service is still working fine. I would highly recommend them.

I wasn't very pleased with them. I tried to get in touch with them about a leak on the roof and they never called me back.

First interviewed at Central Pennsylvania Builders Show.  Interviewed several vendors and had them come out to the house.  Not the cheapest estimate, but seemed very professional.  It turned out they were!  Good work attitude, started early, and quite neat in the workplace.  Main frustration was not knowing what day or week they would come.  But I guess that's true of any construction work.  I have recommended them to several neighbors.
