Electrician was very thorough in both his review and explanation.  Very professional, patient and an "overall good guy."  Provided a reference for another contractor for additional work we will likely need, such skills not normally within a Licensed Electrician's training or experience.  I appreciated that very much as finding people with these kinds of skills is very difficult.  Overall, it was a very small job, but I would certainly hire him for much larger jobs as well as recommend him to friends and family. <br />

James answered all my questions for present and future work.  He gave me a very reasonable price for the work.  The work was preformed in a timely and professional manner.  I plan to definitely use JDM again for lighting landscaping. <br />

I got their special and he diagnosed a fan with a light in it that was bad. He did the checkup and then I had to buy a light and he couldn't come back for a month. He eventually changed the light and he installed a spotlight outside for me. The work he did ended up costing $350. He was suppose to be here last Tuesday and he didn't show up and I called and I didn't hear form him until Saturday. He had asked someone to email me and call me but they didn't. The work he did he was fine but the personality problems around him wasn't so hot.  The light hat he put in the back has been stolen and when he was here the first time I asked him to put a solar light around the front because my car kept getting broken into and he left without turning the light on. The key to turn on the light was still in the box it came in and still sealed in plastic. So it wasn't right. The spotlight wouldn't come on and I called him and he said if he comes out and nothing is wrong with the light he was going to have to charge me again.
Response from JDM Electrical Contractors LLC
"you were complaining that you were getting robbed everyday. They kept breaking into your truck. You asked me to install this little solar light above the door so it would illuminate the steps. I did that. Then you asked me to come back to install the fan which was bad and i said i would when i have a free day. Yes it was about a month before we got there. So when we came out there you then wanted a spot light installed on your back door light which was switched controlled. we had a appointment at 10 am and you didn't show up back to your house tip 12 pm and we didn't even charge you for 2 hours waiting for you. We then installed the light fixture and tested it and it worked fine. During the time we were working you left to go out. We finished the job and locked door behind us. We then got a phone call telling us that we locked you out of your house. My guys follow a procedure to lock up if customer is not there when they are done with there work. You called us yelling that we locked the door. You told us you were getting robbed everyday so why would we keep door unlocked and take responsibility for someone entering your house when your not home? Plus who doesn't carry a house key to enter there own house. You then called us the next day and told us that the light was not working. I told you that if its not working cause of the light fixture it self we won't charge you a service call fee. But if it was not working because of other reason we would have to charge you the time to fix it. When we arrived there the light wasn't working, but the reason was because you turned off switch of which i clearly told you not to turn off switch cause it wouldn't work. We didn't charge you even though we should have cause it wasn't a warranty issue. So please tell us why you grade us a D when we did nothing but go above and beyond to satisfy you and your needs."

James arrived promptly and reviewed with me exactly where I wanted it hung and at what length. I then left him alone with the fixture and I was notified about two hours later after he reran the wire and installed the fixture that the fixture came wired incorrectly from the manufacturer. He informed me that it had to be returned and replaced with a working one. I returned the fixture to Home Depot that weekend and received a replacement. I then called James to have him come back to install the fixture. He had one of his guys come out the following week to install it at no additional cost to me. I would definitely recommend JDM Electrical Contractors. They are an honest, reputable firm and I will use them again when the need for a good electrician is required.

I initially purchased from Angie's List a $59 Electrical Service Call and Whole-House Electrical Inspection, including labor on March 27, 2014.  When he came for the inspection, I showed him what I wanted fixed.  Upon looking over the original inspection description, I am not aware that he inspected things like arc-fault breakers, insulation, grounding system, smoke alarms which were listed. <br /> He took down my ceiling fan.  Since I did not have a ceiling fan box, James needed to come back to install that as well.  I would have preferred  paying for the job instead of by the hour as it took two visits to install the fan properly.  In retrospect, it would have been better, and less expensive for me, if he insisted I wait for the box before installing the fan.  Since the fan I already had up had no box and was better balanced, it worked fine that way, so I didn't understand why I needed the box.  James explained after he installed the new fan that the new fan was smaller and had only three blades which is why it rocked when operating. <br /> I had asked if he could dust the fixtures around the living room vaulted ceiling bulbs while he was up there, while replacing the old bulbs with LED bulbs.  He told me he preferred I clean the fixtures and that he would hand me the fixtures, but the first fixture had been painted around, and stuck to the ceiling.  It took him a great deal of time to replace that fixture.  He dusted the other two fixtures as I had wanted and simply inserted the bulbs.  Much faster that way. <br /> He was supposed to fix a microwave light that wasn't working.  It never happened.  The dining room cabinet lights were hot and I needed an alternative.  He could not find a suitable alternative. <br /> I had a halogen light burn out in my dining room cabinet after he removed it by hand. He had taken it out to determine it's wattage. Later he told me halogen bulbs should not be handled.  He took the bulb on April 16th, but was too busy to come back and replace it within a reasonable time.  That bulb was in my middle cabinet, so I couldn't enjoy using those lights, almost a month, while it was out.  I had to ask him twice to send me the bulb numbers for that bulb, and three bulbs he was to replace from my loft.  He finally responded on May 10th.  We agreed it would be cheaper for me to install the bulbs myself instead of paying for a another house call. <br /> James was certainly polite and did a final good installation job on the fan and the phone jack, but I found working with him <br />  frustrating. <br />

"Wait a second. I came there to do a whole house inspection of which i did and told you want need to be done on your house. I performed work for the 1 hour as you purchased. Not only that but i worked around your schedule cause you could only do after 3 pm or saturdays only. Then you asked me to perform more work after the original deal was done. I told you i was very busy but i will see what i could do. Once again i went out of our way to help you with installing your ceiling fan and i also went above and beyond you take windex and clean your recess light trims cause the were extremely dirty. But in the end run you wanted me to come replace a light bulb of which had nothing to do with the original job because you broke it and i said i can't that week. I guess this is were it shows you can't please everyone."

JDM Electrical was the  first vendor that I found and selected on Angie's List.  After looking at this deal for sometime, I decided to go ahead and schedule the service.  James of JDM Electrical was outstanding.  Despite going through a personal tragedy, he showed up at my home on time, consulted me through out the process of installing the fixture, and he cleaned up after the job was done.  I would highly recommend JDM Electrical.  I look forward to James coming back to our home for future projects. <br />

<strong>Overall, it was a very bad experience to deal with this provider and I would highly recommend against ever contacting this company.</strong> <br /> <br /> A Big Deal was offered for 2 hours of electrical work by JDM Electrical Contractors, LLC for $79. Due to my limited availability of after 4:30 p.m. + weekends, I called Angie's List Big Deal Department on 4/15/14 and was assured that JDM's hours were til 6:00 p.m. & Saturdays, so I purchased the deal over the phone. I subsequently spoke to the purported owner, James Mazzio, who advised that he didn't pay workers after 4:00 p.m., so would handle the job personally and we scheduled for 3 weeks later, 5/15/14, at 4:30 p.m. I specifically explained that <strong>the primary task was to replace a loose breaker on a very old panel box</strong> (estimated work time of 35-40 min.) and, as "filler" for the remaining time, to replace 3 two-prong outlets w/ three-prong ones and, if time allowed, to replace 5 light switches (I was capable of doing this, myself), as well as giving an estimate on a larger job. This person stated that replacing the outlets was more complicated and could not be done within the 2 hrs. of this deal. <strong>It was agreed that the breaker would be replaced and, solely to fill in some of the remaining time, to replace the 5 light switches</strong> (which would still be a total of only ~1 hr., but I was okay with that). <br /> <br /> Because I was home sick on the scheduled day, I e-mailed James that he could come earlier. He called me and said that he had no record of my appt. at all and, when I related ALL of the above, he alleged that the person with whom I initially spoke was not the actual owner and that he had since fired that person. He did agree to come to my house, that afternoon. <br /> <br /> The first few minutes were general introduction & discussion, then James spent ~1-2 min. to look at my panel box and quickly determined that he would need to order a replacement breaker and to do the work in a 2nd visit, but he verbally recommended replacing the entire box @ ~$600-700. James took ~20-25 min.to replace the 5 light switches, then we walked to my detached garage to discuss the possibility of running an electric line from my house; James gave a verbal estimate of ~$1,000. The balance of the ~1 hr. that he was at my house was just idle chit-chat. Before he left, James said that he would e-mail written estimates to me for the 2 potential major jobs, as well as the cost of the part for the single breaker. <br /> <br /> After 6 days passed with no communication from James, I e-mailed him on 5/21/14. He replied that the cost of the breaker was $40 and the cost of his service charge was $120 (he never did e-mail me written estimates for either of the 2 large jobs). I reminded him that I had pre-paid for 2 hrs. of service and that he had only worked for 20-25 min. Further, in response to my query, James e-mailed that his hourly rate was $70. In a telephone conversation on 5/22/14, James <strong>repeatedly</strong> stated to me that the Big Deal entitled me to <strong>2 hrs. of continuous work only</strong> and that I would have to pay additionally for him to come back, despite the fact that I was very clear about primary task that I wanted done from the outset - both my initial telephone conversation with the person who purported to be James and my telephone conversation with James on 5/15/14, prior to his visit - AND when he first arrived at my house. At no time prior to the visit or even while he was at my house did James even hint that there would be any additional service charge. At the conclusion of the 5/22/14 telephone conversation, James told me that he received zero payment from this particular Big Deal and for me to contact Angie's List for a full refund, that he would not dispute my claim. <br /> <br /> On 7/8/14, a Complaint Resolution Specialist left a voice message that I would not receive a refund because JDM Electrical Contractors, LLC had been paid and because this company did actually perform work. I called back and spoke with another Specialist, who said that the provider had been paid 50% of the $79 cost - or $39.50. I again explained the above in detail and she did agree to refund me the Angie's List 50% portion, or $39.50, but she stated that I would have to apply to JDM for its 50% share, or $39.50, which I did on 7/8/14. On the morning of 7/9/14, James responded by e-mail that he was refusing to refund me because he had performed work (again, the only work that he did was to replace 5 light switches - something that I could easily have done, myself, and a task that was only intended as a "filler" for additional time after the primary task of replacing the breaker was done) and that his hourly rate is $85 (he stated in his 5/21/14 e-mail that his hourly rate was $70). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />

James and Donnie showed up on time and got right to work.   They replaced everything from the outside service box to the service panel in the basement.   The wiring was done neatly and according to code.  The job took 6 hours and they worked without a break (although they could have taken lunch but chose not to), were very pleasant and professional.    I'm very pleased with the final product! <br />

<p>Pros: appointment was easily made.  Electrician was courteous and returned phone call promptly.</p> <p>Cons: showed up 2 hrs after quoted time (apparently it was just an estimated time); couldn't fix the problem after 1 hr and offered to email me price quote for an additional service trip - that was 4 days ago and I haven't received email yet; paid $79 and still have same problem.</p> <br />
Response from JDM Electrical Contractors LLC
"I emailed you the quote to the email you provided. You had some work done by non licensed contractors and they buried boxes and electrical devices in your basement and on exterior when you built the sun room. Thats the reason why we couldn't find it with in the 2 hours. I sent you a estimate to your email which was provided to us and we got no respondse back."

I purchased an Angies List deal for a whole house electrical inspection in 2 hours of labor. I communicated with James via email prior to his visit, and he was timely and polite. However, he never mentioned that I was outside the mileage range for this deal until he showed up at my house. One of the first things he said to me was that I didn't qualify for this deal, and that he wasn't making any money on this project, but he understood it wasn't my fault that AngiesList sold the deal to me. As a sales person, I completely get that but I also understand that the issue he has with AngiesList should be transparent to the customer. <br /> <br />As for the service, James did an excellent job installing my light fixture. He was quick, cleaned up and had me approve the work. He did not, however, offer to inspect my electrical, per the deal, and I didn't feel comfortable asking him to given the way our conversation started. I'm sure he is a great electrician, but I prefer not to work with contractors who make me feel guilty for a mistake that was not mine. The lesson here is read the fine print and make sure you get the deal you bought. <br />
Response from JDM Electrical Contractors LLC
"Thank for your review. I did let you know that this area was not part of our district for angies list. My intention was not to make you feel comfortable but i came there to honor your purchase instead of telling you over the phone and inconveniencing you by getting a refund. I had no idea that being nice and respecting your purchased even though the distance was over a hour of travel 1 way would have offended you so. If i could please everyone and complete every job through out the nation i would. Sorry you felt the way you felt and i understand that you wouldn't hire us back cause of the miss communication."
