JGHumphreys Llc - General Contractor will always be steadfastly dedicated to the highest level of ethics and craftsmanship, as well as honest, reliable service from knowledgeable and courteous professionals. It is my intention to use this company to provide both high end and value minded remodeling services at a modest profit to the benefit of those who share the communities I live in. It is my commitment to keep overhead costs low in order to offer exceptionally high quality craftsmanship at rates far below those of larger firms offering the same level of service. This means that on larger projects I often take only one at a time, and stay at that job full time until it is finished, focusing on flexibility if any design changes occur during the construction process. It went terrible. He is a thief. Don't hire this company. Took our money and never dropped off windows/sidings or other materials. He left our house with out siding for months40,0 and left it exposed to a bad rain storm which lead to flooding in the basement and water damage to several rooms in the house. Dan Berkey is crook. We never saw him after we gave him a deposit. Buyer beware of this guy and company - don't use him!!!!

I had to give one star because there were no lesser options. Don't hire this idiot (Dan Berkey) look for other reviews (Home owners beware) !!! I am in the military so I had limited time to baby sit this idiot, and when you hire a GC you should not have to play baby sitter. I had hired him to build a garage and a front porch and after a year and a half passing it was never completed and at every stage he failed inspection, his workers had closed up areas even after I had asked him about the required inspections prior to them closing up the areas. I should have known this was going to be an issue when his check bounced at the township even after I gave him the money three months in advance to cover it, and when he asked me to purchase all of the materials myself but he could not give me a complete list to give the building supply ware house, and when the work started the workers had to give me a new list everyday of what was needed that day or they would have to stop work, so I had to leave work to run and grab supply's. He is never on site to make sure the work is getting done correctly or at all, the only time he is on site is to ask for a check in his words he needs to cover payroll. Every check I gave him, I would get calls from Check Cashing Store (not a bank) to confirm that they were legit, he floats money from one job to pay the workers from another job that are ready to walk. His workers keep complaining that they were not getting paid and walked off of the job. Don't hire this idiot I can promise you you will regret it and he will just take your money and laugh at you. His workers are the worst and dirty they damaged more that they built (Lakewood builders) and I kept having to clean up the yard and around the house every day. And if he send a guy name Raul over to do siding tell them to go away they do **** work and refuse to come back to fix it, so now I have to hire another siding crew to fix this mess too.

They were great! Their carefulness and consideration for our house really impressed me. They put down dropcloths on the carpet and vacuumed before they left every day. It was really a pleasant experience. They never made us feel we were in their way. We are a homeschooling family so my sons (age 8 and 10) were constantly around asking questions and they talked to them like intelligent people and my kids just loved them. <br /> The quality of the work was all we could have asked for. We gave them a really difficult painting job (semigloss paint) and it looks great. They carefully followed all our directions and double checked with us, as well as telling us when one of our creative ideas was problematic. They had good suggestions and design ideas. Communication was excellent all around. They constantly let us know what to expect, worked with us on what came up unexpectedly in the course of the project, and answered all our questions. They were very responsive to changes we needed to make in the middle. When we needed to leave early, they would arrive early. <br /> They completed the job at the cost of their estimate (modified slightly to reflect changes we made) and in a reasonable time (but longer than their original stated timeframe). They encouraged us to use the bathroom for a few days and call them with any issues we had. There were a couple of minor things, which they promptly came over to fix when we called. They didn't ask for final payment until those were resolved. They did quality work and we recommend them highly. <br />

Very well - and I already plan to have Dan & his assistant return for additional work. I purchase a Big Deal in December 2013 for 3 hours of handyman work. Because the jobs were all exterior tasks (garage is detached & unheated), we delayed til spring - but, due to virtual uneneding winter and almost no spring, the work was postponed until June. When one e-mail mentioned that they usually do handyman work only when they are slow, I looked at the website and discovered that J.G. Humphrey is actually a general contractor, which opened up a whole new set of possibilities for me. <br /> My only negative was that a date for the handyman work was set for a late afternoon and, even though I confirmed with Dan on that morning, he called me 3 hrs. beforehand to cancel/reschedule. On the new date (7/12/14), he arrived only a few minutes late and he and his assistant were professional and friendly. The garage area was quickly cleaned out, then the old porch screening was removed. They removed and properly stored hundreds of old staples and hammered in some of the other staples. They properly installed the new rolls of screening as I requested (although their electric stapler was not working, so they used my manual stapler, along with the staples that I supplied which were longer than the ones that Dan had brought). <br /> The side with the screen door needs complete frame replacement (and new screening); Dan measured and took pictures and is to e-mail me a formal estimate. He also walked through my house and we discussed various other potential jobs, particularly in my kitchen, where I am satisfied that he had a good grasp of what I wanted on a shoestring budget and that he can accommodate me. It wasn't until after they left that I realized that they had worked for ~2 hours - which is a total of 4 "man" hours; I had only paid for 3 hours and Dan did not ask for any additional payment. <br /> Other than scheduling difficulties, it was a pleasure to deal with Dan and I have a positive feeling about future projects. <br />

<p>They were fine. Nothing bad. On the good side, they were timely. They arrived when they said they would. It took a little bit longer than the three hours to get the service done and he agreed to stay and finished it up and I paid him a little bit extra for that. They were thorough and did a good job and on time.</p>

"This customer was upset that we were busy for three weeks and couldn't come back out right away for a few extras when their house went up for sale. I do my best to accomodate everyone but smoetimes we can't make it out right away. The owner was on the job everyday and customer was thoroughly satisfied at the end of the job. The fact that the owner would walk them through progress each day didn't mean that they had to "keep on us". It's ashame that's how it was interpreted."

Excellent work. Exceeded expectations. Dan is a highly skilled and motivated professional. There were a lot of tasks that needed to be completed in a single day. Jeff came back the next day to paint the kitchen. Out of the list of jobs given to the contractor, most were not completed because of small parts being needed (all major parts were provided). I feel if it was on their $30/hr time frame they probably would have been able to fix everything. BECAUSE this was a gift for my sister, she was not able to pay for more time, she is very upset with how the main things she needed completed were not. She still cannot use her downstairs bathroom. <br /> <br /> The worker showed up and took 1 hour to walk through the house to "see" what needed to be done from the list provided. Why is this done on the same day as work is to be done? How is anything supposed to get done if all they tell you is....you need more parts, which you cannot do when you have someone working in your house and things are supposed to be done within a certain time limit?

"The "guy" who came over was very patient with the customer while she walked him through the work. He stayed an extra hour free of charge to get done what he could despite a very busy schedule that day. We offered to come back with the parts needed the next business day but the customer didn't understand or didn't hear or in some way missed this point. We were told they had all the parts they needed before we arrived. To avoid conflict we said it must have been our younger guy who forgot to tell the customer we'd be back with parts, but truth is she just didn't pay attention or forgot or was looking for some drama possibly. The customer was very difficult to talk to without her going on at length about random topics. Several of the items listed as not completed were actually completed at no extra charge to the customer. The customer's impression seemed to be that the main reason we came back is because they sent a less than positive review but it's actually how we treat all of our customers. A quick read through the rest of our reviews will show anyone this is true. We went the extra mile to help out just like we do with everyone else. Many of the remaining items WERE completed and a list was sent with the estimated cost to finish the additional tasks that there wasn't time in the 3 hour service to get to. No response has been received, as in previous cases. We also honored the handyman coupon well after it should have expired. Overall we don't feel this review accurately reflects what was done for the customer. No communication has been received back as we have tried to work with this customer and her sister. We work hard to help everyone we work for, this is not just another construction business but a labor of love and a family owned business. We honestly feel that everyone we work for becomes a part of our extended family. Nothing will change in our efforts on that front. These guys may need to find a new contractor though, we find it near impossible to successfully collaborate under these conditions. We wish them all the best though."

Work was completed efficiently, neatly and promptly as promised. I am pleased with the result and will use them in the future. I found communications to be a little slow using Angie's List email. Once I started using the phone, everything was fine. <br />

Accomplished a lot in a short period of time. No complaints considering the short three-hour time frame we contracted for. We had to add an hour for completion of the ceiling tile job, but it was worth it.
