He did a beautiful job, I paid for the materials, and he did a good job with the repairs. Major repairs was done on the boards that was done in 2011, and some was not installed properly, he came back to fix the boards up he was able to re-fixed the boards properly. He was able to provide additional works for me, thoughtful and considered my needs. One concern I had with the work was that things were not plumb and squared.

I wish he could come back but unfortunately I was unable to reach him last time. I think he probably just had so many projects. I would expect the price to be the cost he had projected. He did a good job and communicated well. His attention to detail making sure to take the time to make sure the job was done right stands out to me. Double checking with me and reassuring that me as the client was happy with the progress and how things were going.

Jim is awesome!! I picked him out of the blue from Angie's list, and thankfully so, as we were very pleased with his work, and the cost was reasonable. He's dependable, patient, professional, and holds to his word on "lifetime guarantee" -- after a year, the original work needed some updating and Jim took care of just as he had promised. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Jim. Our bathroom looks great thanks to Jim!

Jim did the bid about 3 months before the funding was approved for the job. He did well in keeping in touch about the schedule.

The storage units were built in the attic, but Jim still asked about details, checking in before installing walls that would have blocked the natural light from the window, which was much appreciated. The end result looks really neat, - the doors were naturally too tall for the units themselves, and cutting them off from the bottom instead of the top gives them an old-world look, with the knobs off-centered so they're lower on the door. Very good work and done in just two days.

Jim Siebenaler Construction is absolutely the best! This is the second large project Jim has done for us. He previously replaced our front porch. This time, we gutted the main floor bathroom.

Jim is reliable, professional, a perfectionist about his work, a good listener, and does everything in his power to please the customer. Jim and his crew installed new walls, tub, toilet, vanity, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, lighting, tile floor, subway tile shower stall, subway tile up to chair rail height, and a custom shower door. Everyone who worked on the bathroom was top-notch. The entire process took less than two weeks!

The space is small, but Jim created a beautiful built-in shelf that is made of subway tile and glass shelves. There is a white subway tiled shower stall (tub to ceiling) with two lines of black pencil tile accent that is one of my favorite touches in the room along with the built-in shelves.

Jim and his crew turned a worn-out bathroom that had a stained tub surround, no fixed shower, and peeling wallpaper into a spa-like room that has an Art Deco feel. The new bathroom matches our 1920's house perfectly. We highly recommend Jim Siebenaler Construction.

It went great. Timing was in our favor. Jim was able to get our job done quickly. Jim was professional and respectful, prompt and friendly. He and his crew member Joe did an excellent job. My husband in the past has always done our home remodeling and construction and he was pleased with Jim's work. It was our first experience with Angie's list and it went really well.

Jim was very prompt and seemed responsive. He is a nice guy who works hard. He started the work when he said he would and kept it on schedule in spite of some difficult weather. His brother worked with him the first few days, but after that he did all of the work himself.
Unfortunately, the work does not look as professional as I had hoped. Some of the wood is not cut straight, edges are not smooth, and there are many gaps between boards.
As the work got toward completion I told him of my concern that the workmanship was not good. Jim said he would get it all fixed up at the end. He filled some gaps with wood filler and sanded them, but did not finish due to rain. The filled and sanded joints still look sloppy. Unfortunately, these joints are right in front of the kitchen window, where we see them all the time.
Jim said he has a lifetime guarantee on his work and will come back to finish this up. I hope he will.
Another builder told me that the structural work on the deck is very good, even "overbuilt," which I was glad to hear.

Update: Jim came back and relaid some of the boards on the deck and it looks much better! I would definitely hire him again.

Update: The second summer after Jim built the deck I stained it myself, so I got a close look at the workmanship. Many boards were split by nailing, decking is not spaced uniformly, and joints are not well fitted.
Response from Jim Siebenaler Construction
"This was a very fun and a good workout type of job. We tore down an old deck and large concrete slab and had to wheelbarrow it back up a slight hill and dispose of it. Wasn't the easiest of jobs but came together great. Building a deck on a hillside always provides challenges. We ran into some problems with the factory edges of the decking but with the lifetime guarantee I give on decks, I'll take care of it. Tina was great to work with and I hope to work with her on projects in the future."

I had a great experience. Jim is personable, honest, and does very professional work. The finished bathroom exceeded my expectations. Even though bathroom remodels are messy and noisy, Jim went out of his way to keep the disruption to a minimum. I also appreciated how well-informed he kept me throughout the process.
"This was an unusual bath remodel. We incorporated the hallway between rooms as part of redoing the bath and expanding it. The shower now stands in place of previous hallway. It turned out great with Matt's vision. I was very happy to put it all together for him and look forward to working with him in the future. Jim Siebenaler"

Let me start off by saying I met Jim Siebenaler after reading his profile on Angie?s list and contacting him about my project. My
opinion is that Jim is a genuinely good person and someone you can depend upon to get your project done to your specifications. He will show up when he says he will show up, he will complete the job you give him and he will not charge you for extra things to jack up your bill. In short I will testify that Jim Siebenaler is a professional that will work with you.

Here?s some background, I needed a general contractor for an extensive home remodeling project that included having a new well drilled, new septic installed, flooring, plumbing, framing/sheetrock and extensive electrical work. The loan I received required the use of an independent general contractor and I had zero experience.

So, I turned to Angie?s list for help. I reviewed the listings and narrowed it down to 7 or 8 contractors based on user comments & rates and proceeded to contact each by phone. I was somewhat awkward with my explanation of what I was looking for and all of the bigger outfits told me they were not interested, in spite of this being ultimately a $66,000 project (Jim's portion of the bill was about $30,000). Jim Siebenaler responded back to me 1 hour after I left a message and met me at my home that night at 8:00 when I got home from work. Right from the start Jim helped me to scope out exactly what we needed to get done and sort out the sequence in which the tasks had to be completed.

The loan was a 203K HUD loan which translates into a nightmare of paperwork, mutiple signatures and delayed draws which meant Jim had to display patience and trust in the process. Jim was a professional at all times, if Jim said he was going to complete this phase of the project on a particular day it would get done. If Jim said it was going to be this much money, that?s how much it was. When we had a problem with the plumber?s installation of a piece of junk water heater, Jim addressed the problem removed the cost of both the work and the water heater and resolved the issue on our behalf.

As a first time Angie?s list user I hired Jim on good faith after our first meeting and I would encourage anyone else to do the same or contact me and I will be happy to provide more information about this experience. As a matter of fact I have already asked Jim to provide me with an estimate for upgrading my previous house to meet rental code. From here on out I have my contractor for my projects big and small.

Jeff Schneider

"Very kind words from [removed member name]. It was my pleasure doing work for [removed member name]. I even enjoyed walking their dogs, once:). There project was a fun one to work on with them. They moved from the city to country life and I think there beautiful home will make that transition that much easier. I greatly look forward to future projects with them."

You should hire Jim Siebenaler Construction! The front porch of our 1925 house was falling apart. The support posts were so rotted and water damaged that it's a miracle the roof hadn't caved in. The floorboards were in even worse shape than the posts. Jim was precisely on time to look at the job. He understood that we wanted to keep the porch as close to original as possible. He immediately offered solutions and promised an estimate via email that evening, which we received. The estimate was much more reasonable than another one we'd been given.
Jim was at work on the front porch in less than three weeks and finished the project in two days. It's not easy to find a contractor who is punctual, professional, cost-conscious, and takes pride in doing high quality work. He even repaired a hole in the clapboard siding on the second story of our house for no charge. My only concern with giving Jim Siebenaler Construction an excellent review is that he'll be too busy to find time to work on the other jobs we've got in mind for him.

"It was my pleasure working with [members name]. I look forward to working with her on future projects. The biggest challenge on updating rest of home will be preserving the era of which the home was built. I am most certain that we will be able to accomplish that. Jim Siebenaler"

JSC is a terrific company. I first asked for a cedar fence, after having Jim S recommended by a neighbor. The job expanded, as Jim's competence and fine subcontractors gave me the confidence to improve a 55 year old house. This involves every part of building a new house, frame, roof, cement in basement, insulation, electrical, plumbing. Tile, subflooring, sheetrock. More. Except, it is being done within a house. They must work around existing structures and utilities. It is quite impressive to observe. Neighbors and friends and other professionals are in awe.

He shows up on time, has terrific sub-contractors who show up and are polite, they all explain what they are doing and allow me input, no communication problems, which I highly value. The work winds up better than I asked for or expected. The pergola had to match exactly an old one, to keep the somewhat historic house community-friendly. It is perfect. The old porch columns were so bad I could kick them out (but waited for braces to be in place). Jim had the new ones in in a flash. That is part of the charm of working with JCS, things get done before you know they've started.
The wall in the basement -- probably not very difficult, I don't know, but in a spot that needed it and I hadn't thought of it, Jim did. He is a very good problem-solver. I keep thinking I am underpaying him, which is quite pleasant, really.
I can't comment much on the main house interior wall yet, it's a big project involving ductwork and electrical lines.
Also, Jim is utterly adorable.

"Member's project started last November (2012) as a very basic privacy fence build. It has escalated to enlarging and remodeling a basement bathroom, to a main floor renovation and will end up as a complete house remodel. It has been a very fun expierenece working with the homeowner and bringing all her visions to life. The project will be ongoing for a good portion of this year and looking forward to every step along the way. I will keep updating as project progresses in-depth."

I had trouble finding a good fence person; a neighbor gave me Jim Siebenaler's name, telling me she is very happy with various projects he has undertaken at her house. He came over, listened to what I wanted, basically said "No problem", which is *not* what I had heard from others. He built exactly what I wanted. He even had a landscaping idea that is terrific and pulled down part of his new fence to accommodate the landscaper.

Every "Can you do this?" is met with "Sure." And he does. Very talented, patient, knowledgable, experienced.

The fence is great, as are the other building improvements Jim has done.

I will update this review as more work is done. We are planning to remove carpet and lay tile, to gut the kitchen and remodel, and some other large projects.

I have already recommended Jim to friends and family, and will continue to do so. I hesitated writing this review because I fear he won't have time for my projects! He is really good.

Mudd Bros extended a window well into a sunken garden, Jim turned it into a beauty with cedar tongue-and-groove cladding, and steps on each side. The steps are different widths because the cement is different widths -- truly custom-made and lovely.

Latest project: expanding a bath from small, pink-painted asbestos walls to gorgeous tile, stone floor, Universal Design aspects (safety). This project has been a challenge, transitioning from a very poorly-designed area to a pretty and user-friendly design. It has involved (with others on the project) moving the shower drain, figuring ways around tricky, poorly laid-out ducting, pipes that shouldn't have been exposed originally and more. Jim is patient and persistent.

Jim also, over a couple of days, transformed a room at my son's house into a nursery, my son and his wife are delighted.

Update, May 2013
A number of things have got in the way of my letting JSC finish the interior, but the work he has done in the times he has been here impress me a lot. I have partially demolished a very-beautifully built mid-century house, marveling at the rabbetting, dovetail, pegs, etc. I have come to see that Jim's work matches or exceeds those standards.
He solves problems easily, and this house has a lot of problems. It makes the whole production pleasant.
Thanks, JCS!
