Jim at first suggested complete refinishing and a reasonable price but then offered that he might be able to restore the finish where needed to match original. We agreed to test this approach with the idea that we would go full refinish if the results were not good enough. Jim scheduled a time to begin. The results were stunning. Not only did he match the original stain and restore the finish to match. He did it in four days (needing some time for finishes to dry as he progressed). Jim is a miracle worker. I was afraid that we might be reduced to painting the cabinets and living with patchy finishes. Instead it is like there was never damage.

Jim did such a good job and was so nice to work with, we referred him to our neighbors. He started refinishing their cabinets today. We took before and after photos to remind ourselves of where we started. It was amazing. Jim has a vast knowledge of wood and finishes. We explained what we wanted and he did exactly that. He does all of his work by hand. He cleaned the cabinets, applied shellac, sanded them and applied varnish. Other quotes were for removing the cabinet doors and taking them to a workshop to be sprayed with clear coat. He did not remove our doors. While he was working in an area, he protected the counters with plastic and the floors with tarps. He showed up when he said he would. He was respectful of our home, us and our dog. We felt comfortable with him arriving and leaving when we weren't here because he's that kind of guy. He approaches his work with wood as an artist, with a keen sense of color and texture.

We were very pleased with his quality and scope of work. His written proposal sufficiently described the process and he did not rush the job. The cabinets have a near new look.

Jim did a great job in all aspects of the project. He was thorough, made thoughtful suggestions (even helped us pick the paint colors) and went up on the roof to reach difficult parts of the trim in the hot weather. The paint job is beautiful - he is very detail-oriented. Don't expect a quick, sloppy job with Jim. He was very neat and picked up all the equipment at the end of the day. He was very pleasant to have around the house and was even kind to our crazy dog. We hope to have him back for another job.

Jim was a hard worker, very thorough and did great work. He was very pleasant to have at the house. He clearly has a lot of experience and was able to make adjustments when needed. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants a job well done!

Cleaned, removed prevoius foux finish and repainted kitchen cabnets. No walls, ceilings or floors were included in this job.
He was disorganized with the sequence of work and the requests to the family so we were unable to use the kitchen for more than 3 weeks. We had a hard time living in the house and working around him. By his own admission he is proud that he does techniques that other painters don't do which he thinks produce better results.
In the end the cabinets look very nice and we had lots of compliments on the kitchen.

"Customers are pushing eighty. They knew I do all my own work in order to control the quality and in my opinion, have less confusion. 3 weeks was the time I gave them.I worked around them as I always do."

Jim is a perfectionist and he is very skillful. He is able to repair small structural damages that other painters might not want to get involved with as part of their jobs. He only wants to use Benjamin Moore paints and this is based on his past experience with this paint brand. He uses their top of the line paint Aura, and he gets good results with it. He also uses some techniques that by his own admission other painters do not routinely practice, such as wet to dry sanding with 300 grade sandpaper between coats of interior surface paint. He works alone because he wants to be "in control of the end product." All of this means that he is slow in the performance of the job. His work hours are unique, so he is hard to work around or accommodate. He started my job the second week of APRIL and he finished it the second week of JUNE.
In his defense, the addition of an endanged bird and her nest of chicks did slow him down prepping and painting the front of the house. She took 4 weeks to fledge her chicks, and he had to work around this act of nature.
So if you need to have a paint job done in a hurry, this is not the painter you want to hire.
We have hired Jim multiple times in the past and this time his services was exceptional as it always is. He is a perfectionist. Also pressure washed and bleached mildew in gutters as part of prep work. Extremely thorough.

Jim showed up everyday, including weekends to prep and paint our home. He made some suggestions which we took. Jim spends a lot of time on prep and our paint job looks amazing. I had to way a few months before Jim could do our job and he was definitely worth the wait!
