J&L are excellent -- not the cheapest but worth every penny. They do top notch work, communicate well, and do exactly what they say they will do. No surprises and very courteous/friendly.

They’re perfectionist, very knowledgeable about requirements, options, would give me drawings of the type of staircase and that kind of thing. They were very professional.

Excellent. They came when they said they would. Very neat and clean on the job.

Work was done on existing drywall that was damaged and needed patching and replacement. There was also a damaged window sill. Workers came on several different days. Some were prompt and courteous while others were not timely. The quality of work done was very good and still looks nice 6 months later. The billing process was easy but one worker overbilled for time not worked. Owner resolved that problem quickly and to our satisfaction. <br>

Went great. They finished when they said they would, charged what they said they would and did a good job. I could not ask for anything more. <br />

<p>We have been reluctant to write this review.  If we were independently wealthy, we would have JL Home Improvement on personal retainer and you'd never have the opportunity to hire the company that may well be the best kept secret in Lynchburg. Alas, our lottery number has not come up, so let us tell you about these folks. </p> <p>We are dedicated DIY'ers. We had bad experiences with two different contactors early on, and were reluctant to try again. But drywall? Well, that's a skill we don't have. So we talked to JLHI about putting up drywall in an upstairs bedroom. After talking to them, we decided to have them put up the trim. Just to see. So we did. The resulting work was excellent. They understood our devotion to our 100+ year old house, and we could not be happier with the work done.</p> <p>They are now working in our main living area, which poses multiple and complex challenges. The work - from everyone involved - is nothing less than exceptional. Each person has multiple areas of expertise, and all have contributed to work that will last for another 100 years.  These people are craftsmen; they care about the quality of their work and they will not stop until we are happy with the product.  The crew - often the unknown when hiring a contractor - are extraordinary. They arrive, work hard all day, clean up after, and try hard to minimize the disruption that renovations inevitably engender.</p> <p>JL Home Improvement may not be your lowest bid. <p>I have used this company for several home improvement projects and each time I couldn't have been more pleased with results. They were polite, friendly, professional and very competent. They involved me in the project to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and the end results were excellent. If I had any questions, they took the time to explain in detail. They arrived on time each day and always cleaned up before they left for the day. I was given a written estimate for each project, and when an item or job came in at a lower cost,  they decreased the bill accordingly.</p> <p>I might be able to find someone who possibly could do the project for less, but when I need any further work done J L Home Improvement will be the only company I will call as their work is exceptional. </p> <br />

It went very well.  Mr. Lawrence responded immediately to my initial call.  It took several calls and about 6 weeks  later before work was started which is the reason for my rating of fair responsiveness.  The two young men who did the work were professional and worked quickly and efficiently.  They had a vacuum with them and did not leave any mess at all.  They were careful about not letting my cat out.  The work took about one and one half days.  They supplied the dead bolt locks , hardware for hanging cabinet and door and the soffit vent so price included materials and labor.  Several days after the work was completed Mr. Lawrence made a follow-up phone call. <br />

<p>He's more expensive then some home improvement people, but he's very clean and he does the job very well.</p>

This company is great! They are punctual, very reasonably priced and the work they did was pristine. They actually did more than we asked at no extra cost. <br />

Needed a blind installed on a window in a foyer that is 25' high. Called John on a Friday morning and he had someone out there that afternoon! Reasonably priced and the serviceman was very professional and polite. Would use him again.

Call John before lunch, he arrived at lunch time for evaluation. All work was done the next day. Satisfied with their quick response. <br />

done efficiently and cleanly.   drain works great.  We also had them rebuild our deck and stain it this summer. and it looks fantastic.

For the painting, I only had to remove only a few breakables.  They draped cloths and plastic over everything, and cleaned up after themselves very well.  They were very courteous while working around the house. They painted carefully around the wood trim,  which there was a lot of, without having to take the time to use painter's tape.  Chris had a very steady hand.  The front brick steps had settled. The crew removed all the bricks from the lowest step, raised up the area and relaid the bricks.  Their grouting was done beautifully and the steps are no longer a tripping hazard.  They also sealed up other cracks in the steps from the settling and wear and tear.  The brick on our fireplace had white and orange residue on it.  Not all the residue could be removed, but it looked better.  The replaced molding in the one room gives the room the finished look I'd been wanting. <br /> It took longer than I would have liked to have John come and give us an estimate, call us back with the estimate, and then to schedule the work.  I had to call him several times to ask when he'd be coming.  Maybe this is typical in trying to get small jobs done. <br /> However, they did a good job and were eager to please once they started.     <br />

It went extremely well. The repaired areas are better than new. Extremely prompt, quick, and very clean and organized. Great follow up to be sure we were satisfied. Cost came in under the original estimate. <br />

Able to come the next day for an appointment. They did an excellent job; they worked fast, were personable (we felt safe with them in our home), performed the job well and even cleaned and vacuumed the work site and removed a large box. They did such a good job that I requested a quote to hang drywall in our basement. Was $140 for two workers for about 2 hours of work, but it was a complex job and easily could have taken longer. <br /> <br /> <br />

Brian and Chris arrived on time. They conducted themselves in a friendly, professional manner, keeping me informed as they worked. They did an excellent job in a timely manner. The job involved removing the damaged boards and replacing them. They left the work area clean.. The end product looked better than I imagined. <br />

I got a great impression of these guys from the time I met them.  Everything about them and what they did from start to finish was excellent.  They kept in touch with me about when they would be there, and they were prompt, courteous, good at informing me, and willing to listen.  There was never a hint of "I know it all and you don't know nuthin'"  that so often I get from contractors.  They were very friendly and nice to have around.  They went ahead and did extra work by removing the pull-down stairs and re-setting them without adding cost.  They finished the job promptly, but in formed me about waiting until above-freezing weather so the quality of the finished work wouldn't be compromised.  They seemed to really have pride in their work.  They cleaned up after every visit and left the place spotless.  The tell me they do all kinds of home improvement work, and I will certainly have them do any other work I may need.  I have dealt with contractors a lot, both at home and at work, and out of all of them, I must say these guys are the best!

Went very well.  Men were friendly and professional.  First job was to chain saw some very large trees that had been downed.  Also needed the rabbit-wire fencing replaced.  That was done very much to my satisfaction - and my little dog now has her yard back.  It is also great to have my outdoor light back, now that fall is here and days are getting shorter. <br />

Overall, it was a great experience.  The work has solved our problem with minimal cost.  Would definitely use them again.
