J & M Contracting & Home Improvement

I paid 1/2 down and have not received services or my money back. I even took to court and won, still never received payment. Do not hire this person because you won’t get the work done. There were several excuses and several months later still had an excuse why couldn’t complete the job. We had to spend extra money to hire someone else.

We were so happy with the work done by J&M Contracting! J&M Contracting did a complete gutting of our 100 year old kitchen down to the studs. We also added a small addition to the back of the kitchen. All work was done, including electrical (throughout the entire house), plumbing, drywall, painting, cabinet installation, windows, and flooring. In addition, we opened a very large wall between our old dining room and new kitchen, which required extensive structural work. J&M contracting does impeccable work. Other contractors and friends were complimentary of the quality of their work at every step, and we continue to receive rave reviews when people see our kitchen! John Jr. is a true artisan. He matched the 100 year old walnut library paneling in our dining room perfectly! He was able to build a matching cabinet to one that existed in the space for more than 100 years! He takes great pride in his work, and offered very useful suggestions at every turn. I highly recommend this company! They are thoughtful, professional, and a pleasure to have in your home.

J&M contracting did a fantastic job on our bathroom and bedroom remodel. The craftsmanship and attention to detail far outweighed my expectations. They were easy to work with and were extremely meticulous with details. I appreciated their honesty when it came to our old house electrical issues that came up.

John Sr. and Johnny Jr. do high quality work at reasonable prices, and will give you honest assessments of what needs to be done. John Sr. is great at communicating and keeping you posted. I really enjoyed working with both of them. John Sr. tends to book work far ahead, and other jobs and delays seemed to bump our work off schedule, so that is my one criticism. I know it was an unexpectedly busy time for them, but he may make over-optimistic statements of when they can get to you. The work itself was great, and I have no complaints about it.

I am very pleased with this contractors work and wife extremely happy! Very trustworthy. This contractor is able to do everything you need. I am hiring this company to remodel upstairs bathroom in the near future.

We have used them several times, and had excellent prices and work done. <br> <br>John Sr. visits to see what needs done, gives a very fair price in writing, and schedules the work. <br>John Jr.  does most of the work. He is very professional and goes out of his way to do things right <br>John Jr. did an excellent job painting a room and  ceiling and the walls going up the stairs. He also did a nice job putting a new overhead light and fan in a bedroom. <br> <br> <br>

My husband and I could not be happier with the results of the work done by J&M. John Jr. and his crew were always a pleasure to have in our home.  J&M Contracting does superior work.  J&M will not leave your job until the work is absolutely perfect.  Since they are a small company, this might mean that the start date of their next job may need to be adjusted.  You can be absolutely confident that when J&M does begin the next job,  the same attention to detail and personal service will be given.  It is of note that during the renovation process, I had representatives from a Pittsburgh upscale design firm in my house.  After observing John Jr.'s excellent work, the design firm actually asked for John Jr.'s information to provide to their own clients. <br>We are planning a full renovation of our kitchen in the fall.  J&M will be doing the work, and I am sure they will do many jobs for us after that! <br> <br> <br>

J and M completely remodeled our bathroom, which required redoing all of the plumbing in the basement. Johnny did an excellent job both in helping design our bathroom and in completing the work. He is detail-oriented. Though that adds more time, we appreciated how meticulous he is because it raised the overall quality of the job. We are considering using them for future work and highly recommend their services. <br />

John continued to put me off all summer long, promising to start the job in a couple of weeks, the time would come and pass and I would have to call again and again.  Finally in October when he finally called me back after several messages I left for him I told him I wanted my money back.  He told me he needed 30 days to get me the money, we agreed on November 14.  He never showed and I haven't heard from him since.  I'm now suing J&M Contracting for my money and have reported them to the Better Business Bureau.  I did read another review on the BBB site where they had the same problem with J&M Contracting.

<p>As I mentioned in my previous review, what sets J&M apart from other contractors is the attention to detail and the overall quality of work. As John Jr. does the work alone (does bring a laborer with him to help with incidentals) the process may take a bit longer than someone else who may use a crew, however, you know that the quality of work is far superior. No corners were cut and the end result was more than my wife and I ever imagined.</p> <p>We ran into a few unknowns during the project and all were handled professionally. The first was the sewer pipe which ran through one of the existing wall cabinets. John was quick to cut out the pipe and divert it so our design would still work. All this work (a whole day) was completed for a very reasonable price. Secondly, we ran into issues with Home Depot with the counters (I would strongly encourage using a smaller local group and avoid Home Depot at all costs). We were lucky to have John onsite to deal with the installers and make sure the job was done right. John knew this was our first experience and wasn't going to allow the counter top folks to ruin the project! Lastly, there was some accidental damage done to the wall in the dining room which was not only repaired but completely repainted, ceiling and trim, at no cost to us. I think this really points to the pride that J&M has in there work. </p> <p>Throughout the process we built a level of trust with John and left him a key to the house to work at his leisure. I not only will use J&M in the future but I standby the quality of work and see no reason to look elsewhere for future jobs. I already have some lighting work that I will sign for early next year. </p> <p>When you visit with John Sr. to discuss future work make sure to ask to see the "kitchen", I'm convinced its the nicest one in the city! </p> <br />

J & M Contracting & Home Improvement was very nice to work with and they are very dedicated.  We gave them a nice size job and they delivered on every deliverable even beyond our original scope of work.  We even ran into remediation work when our bathroom shower pipe busted and leaked all throughout our brand new kitchen, lights and ceilings.  They were able to dry everything out very quickly by cutting holes in walls, running fans, de-humidifiers, and re-finishing the entire kitchen again after they already installed and fixed everything before the major water leak occurred.  We were worried about mold but their fast actions saved us from a lot of headaches.  It was a major step back but they were able to quickly fix and bring our brand new kitchen back to a beautiful finished product again.  Our project lasted roughly 3 months and they work within your schedule. <br />   <br /> They are reasonable, fair and a trustworthy company with great home improvement skills.  They will not steal from you, but will only provide professional and prompt service.  I even gave them a key to my house to work at their own leisure because of the level of trust I had with them.  I would truly recommend J & M Contracting & Home Improvement for any home project, including exterior work, such us, a roof, gutters, decks, porches, paint, etc.   They do a great job and I even re-signed a new contract with them to provide additional services. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> Jeff Nath <br />     <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />

I had a loose gutter which caused water problems in my basement when some really bad storms went through. John Jr. reattached the section of gutter and, as of this time, it appears the problem has been resolved. Both John and John Jr. were here on time and were professional. John Jr. took the time to explain why the problem was occurring and advised me to have an additional downspout connected. <br />

They were very professional, they did a great job, and they were very personable. We chatted about the work, and they had a really good price. They came out twice, and did a whole bunch of stuff. They were coming in between another job. They were doing roofing somewhere, and when it was raining they would come to do the inside job. They were great.  I would tell people that they are professional, courteous, they do a really good job, and you can count on them to have fair pricing and the work was good. They explained everything that they were doing, and why they were doing everything. They were really good to work with.

It didn't. I already gave them 375 dollars and they are no longer getting back in contact with me.

Overall we were very happy with J&M and think they provide excellent value for money. We moved into a new house in July and it was desperately in need of updating. We solicited bids from several general contractors and J&M were far and away the most competitive for our budget. John Jr. (and his crew) did almost all of the work and did a beautiful job, especially with the installing new windows that had previously been sealed over and with installing new patio doors in place of old windows. He also did a very good job with a tricky fireplace re-facing.  Once they started on the project, John Jr. and his crew worked almost every day and for long hours to reach our requested deadline (Thanksgiving). I was also very impressed that they took care to clean up at the end of each day and generally behaved very professionally and responsibly. When other issues arose with the house beyond the original scope of work, John Jr. was very helpful in offering advice on our options. <br /> The bulk of the work was completed by Thanksgiving but there was a delay in installing the front and rear entry doors because the company supplying the doors (Cassidy Pierce) got the measurements wrong and also damaged one of the doors on delivery. J&M <br /> slotted us onto their schedule between other jobs and completed the work relatively expediently.  <br /> The only slight downside is that in some places the brushes they were using to paint the house left a bit of a texture in some spots. Since most of the walls turned out smooth, this was probably something that could have been avoided. There was also some confusion over who was responsible (J&M or us) for measuring the fireplace to obtain the correct quantity of materials so best to be very clear when setting expectations.  <br />

John Jr. and his crew did an excellent, quality job. They worked late nearly every day to get the job done as soon as possible.  The bathrooms both involved tiling, and John was clearly very skilled in this area.  He helped us select materials & even helped with design.  He suggested things that we had not initially thought of which enhanced the end result.  This company was really easy to deal with and very responsive.

I had a positive experience with JM. They were upfront on the <br /> costs and expectations surrounding the scope of work. Unforeseen items that <br /> popped up during the installation were handled in a professional and cost <br /> effective manner. The crew is extremely polite and courteous. The windows look <br /> great and the installation met my expectations. I will be using JM for our <br /> future kitchen remodel and other odd jobs around the house. Please note that <br /> their schedule fills pretty quickly and it may take weeks to months to get on <br /> the schedule. <br /> <hr /> <br />
