Excellent work

I had to hire another contractor to finish the job because he quit returning my calls and emails. Apparently he got enough money out of me and didn't want to finish the job he started. James started out okay, but ended horribly. The quality of his work was good and he seemed knowledgeable. But I stayed home with a sick child on the last day of the job, and as I was upstairs working in the office, I heard James on my front porch having a profane outburst. I went outside to see if everything was okay and to quiet the situation as my daughter and children next door did not need to hear all of his F-bombs. He apparently received a bad call and was upset. <br> <br>James stated that he could not finish my job because the damage was more severe than expected, and that he would need to return in a few months when it was warmer to finish. So he stored the remaining materials that I already paid for in my garage all winter. Come April, I emailed James to ask when he could finish. He stated that he forgot and that he was busy at the moment, but that he would fit me into his schedule in the next couple weeks. That was over 2 months ago! I kept emailing and calling, but received no other replies. So I finally had to seek out another contractor. <br> <br>If there was any silver lining in this ordeal with J&M, the new contractor was cheaper than J&M quoted, and for what  ever reason, they only used slightly more than half of the materials that I "had to purchase" and sat in my garage for 8 months. <br> <br> <br>

J&M Custom provided an estimate with a very detailed description of the scope of work to be performed.  All work was satisfactory completed per the contract.  James Blom was great to work with.  He scheduled his work around my schedule. I'll note that I had complete trust in James; I had no problem letting him work while my wife and I were not home, something I ordinarily wouldn't allow.  There was additional work that needed to be done, such as repairing several sections of HVAC duct.  The cost of the change order was very reasonable.  James' work truck is a hardware store on wheels!  Once he's on the job site, he doesn't have to leave to pick up materials.  I feel fortunate to have discovered J&M Custom Construction.  They have my highest recommendation and I'll definitely be working with them again in the future.

As in my first job with James at the end of 2015, I indicated what jobs I needed done and he supplied a detailed list of cost separating out material from labor. We arranged for a date, which he met. He came did the work, cleaned everything completely. His costs are very reasonable. He is professional in his bids, paperwork, workmanship and follow through. I would recommend James highly. I will definitely use him again. I have already recommended him to friends. Great job, very pleased. He does amazing carpentry work, he built the stair rails for me, and they are beautiful.

James did an excellent job of consulting with us and defining the job.  He was fair in his pricing.  He set the right expectation on when he could start.  Once he started the work, there was a consistent flow of work with no long gaps.  He was able to build a bathroom with a shower, toilet, vanity and built in shelves, hallway, and redo existing walls by sanding, mudding and painting in less than 4 weeks.  James was very good about communication on what would be happening next or if there was a question or a needed change, discussing with us and keeping it moving forward.  James also made sure everyone on his team was prompt, did high quality work and cleaned up after their work was done.  This job exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend James!  I think we will be doing work with James again in the near future. <br />

James was punctual, efficient, kept us informed, and cleaned up beautifully. The deck is now solid and will last many more years. <br /> We will absolutely use James again for future projects. <br />

<p>All work was excellent. James provides an itemized contract for all parts and labor, easy to see for example the cost of painting bathroom. Time frame - was told job would take 2-3 weeks. It was completed in 2 weeks and 2 days even with a delay in tile shipment. James is professional, cleans up each day, and keeps in contact throughout the job regarding progress or any questions. The wooden stair railing he built is beautiful. Not one complaint, everything done was perfect. Will use his services again and have already recommended him to friends. The gentleman who did the tile work did an excellent job, on the new tile in the shower, and regrouting the other bathroom. </p> <br />

It went very well.  He was very detail oriented and there were no hidden costs.  The bathroom turned out even better than we imagined.  We were on vacation when he worked on the bathroom and when we came home our bathroom was nicer than the resort we were staying at!  He had a lot of great ideas and was willing to work with us on what we wanted.  The subcontractors that came in were great as well.

Things went great.  Everything was done very timely and he was concerned about us not having our kitchen to use for a couple weeks.  He was very detailed and there were no hidden costs.  The other sub contractors he had come in were very nice and did a great job.

Things started out great but as he got into the project we ran into a few unexpected problems.  We were able to come up with plan B and we ended up liking things much better in the end.

Our 1950's bath was literally crumbling apart. J&M started with a complete demo of the space. James and crew than started building a new bathroom with the materials I had purchased. I had originally planned to do a DIY project. I found J&M on Angie's list. I am certain that I could not have completed the project in the same time with and with the same quality. The space has been transformed into a custom bath. Thank you! J&M Construction. <br />

James was great!  He came out to give us a free estimate which was lower than other estimates we received.  We wanted to buy our own fixtures (shower, vanity, toilet, etc.), so he gave us the price for the installation and finishings (trim, paint, etc.)  He said the job would take about 3 weeks which from start to finish it did, even though they weren't here every day.  As they were working, they figured out that the vanity we chose didn't quite fit right with the plumbing.  He had the idea to take the drawer apart and move the tracks to make it work.  It is perfect.  After a few days of completion, we noticed a couple of things that needed tweaking, and he came back out to fix them, no questions asked and at no additional charge.  Overall, we were very happy with this work, how kind he was, and the finished product! :) <br />

I must admit that, as a member, I have been woefully remiss in my duties to file this report in a timely manner, However, the press of business and travel sometimes get in the way. <br /> <br /> James Blom, owner of J & M Custom Construction is one of the most personable, and professional young men I have had the opportunity to do business with in some time. He obviously has lot of technical skill in his trade and works very hard at the customer service side of the business. That is often a rare combination these days. <br /> <br /> This was by no means a big job for him, yet he treated it with the attention he would have given a much larger project. He knew it was important to me and approached the work with that in mind. He and his assistant were on time on those days they had committed to work and  completed the work as anticipated. On one day, while I was out of town on business, he called me to clarify how we had agreed to approach part of the job. I was pleasantly surprised, as many contractors would have not taken that extra step to confirm and just moved ahead. <br /> <br /> Short story is that he and assistant were polite, professional, and punctual in performing the quotation and the execution of the work. The jobsite was left each day as though no one had been there, and my wife said that they were very respectful of our home at all times. I will truly be happy to have occasion to utilize the services of J & M again in the near future. It was truly an enjoyable experience and the results were excellent.

James showed up on time and went above and beyond to make sure all of the doors were installed properly. Our home is older and had some quarks about it and James handled the issue professionally with no additional charges to us. <br />
