JMJ Building

Sometimes it is hard to schedule with John, but when he gets there, the work is fabulous.  There are people who drive by my house and stop just to tell me how beautiful my front porch is.  They do a great job of cleaning up after themselves, as well. I would definitely hire JMJ for any kind of deck/porch or full remodel. <br />

The name of the guy is Jim and the other is Bob. The quote was really good. That guy was fine and he was able to work on any time. The price wasn't that bad and he was fair with the estimate. He came right away.

<p>John was great to speak with on the phone and came out to review the project. We were very comfortable with him from the start. He's very honest and responds quickly to calls/emails. When we started the project we expected some delay due to the large amount of reconstruction in the area (due to the November 2013 tornado). As a result, John worked along side his guys to get our job completed timely. About 3-4 weeks I think since we also decided last minute that we wanted a urinal installed and we had to wait for the plumber to be able to get out to the house. I think this is standard for him to help out but either way, we were pleased that it was moving along. He let us know how it was progressing every step of the way and we trusted him with a key to our house to remodel while we were at work.</p> <p>From just having the tornado affect our area and finding myself under the stairs with our three small kids, I had the idea of putting a door and window under the stairs to create a small play room for the boys so if we ever had to go under there again, it would be less intimidating for them and distract them for the time. John ran with the idea! He put in a large window (the boys have called it their fish tank as we have put up Nemo decals) and John also took it upon himself to drywall and finish off under the stairs to make it a much safer and real play 'room'.</p> <p>The only hiccup we have had is that our shower was installed and it is leaking. John did mention to us that this could happen. We know nothing about showers so I don't know enough about the type of shower we picked or how that could affect leaking. Anyway, he prepared us for this, caulked the crap out of it and said he would be willing to come back for a year to help us if it does leak. Unfortunately, it has started leaking and we have contacted him for assistance. Again, I do not fully understand this issue since I am dumb to remodeling but my husband will work with John and we are not concerned but felt it was worth mentioning.</p> <p>We are very happy with JMJ and would use them in the future. My sister will probably be using them coming up when she decides to finish her basement too. As a side note, my husband's family is a lot of contractors from the Chicago area and (of course) they wanted to take a look at everything that was done. They have complimented how nice it was finished off and how well it transitions into our unfinished portion of the basement.</p>

They were always on time and finished the project in the time they said they would. I was pleased with the work. They would call me right back every time.

He was very professional and all. I just thought that their estimate was a little bit high for what I need.

They were a great company to use. They were here on time. They were done sooner than they had expected to be. They did good work.

John (owner of JMJ builders) and his team were prompt, cheerful & courteous. They kept the place very clean everyday since they started the work on Nov 25, 2012. They kept the same tempo and pace through Dec 26, 212. John is very customer focused and honest in letting us know what is possible and what is not possible given the time and money constraints. He was more of a guide in addition to being a general contractor. Hats off to his cheerful and positive attitude. His team members are very experienced and they did not require any follow up on what needed to be done once we made things clear for them. Overall, John and his team kept their word to hand over the place for us on the day they agreed to on Nov 25, 2012. Our family is very impressed with their work culture and professionalism. I recommend JMJ Builders to anybody looking for quality work and delivery of product as agreed to. <br />

He dealt with applying for and obtaining all permits and inspections, designed the deck, provided a material list, and really made it easy for us. Once I ordered the materials his crew was here the next day and everyday thereafter until the deck was completed. <br />

Overall, it went well. The project took about 7 weeks. John, the contractor explained that he would provide me with an estimate of the material needed and I was to pay the supplier and he would arrange for the delivery of the material. In this case Home Depot priced the  material and I paid Home Depot and received a detailed receipt. This system worked just fine for me. Deliveries were on time. JMJ Builders staff was always on time (Most of the time they were parked before 8am and came to the door at 8am.) They were personable and very polite. An important point is that John would virtually every evening after work would inform me  of the progress, any problems and the plan for the next days. I did not have a detailed blueprint, but described what I wanted and he would communicate with me to ensure we were still on track. The job was completed by Nov 12 except for a few minor details which he returned to complete by Dec 1.I would not hesitate to refer John to potential customers. I certainly plan to call him next year I may need to do some additional work on the first floor. By the way not only was the staff prompt but they seemed to always be working. John was not at the project every day all day, but he did come by and spent time virtually every day. <br /> His staff seemed to be very competent. <br />

John and the guys did a great job!  He came out for an estimate and a follow-up discussion.  He was very up-front with all the material costs and we went over the list line by line.  Once the work started, John was here everyday along with a couple of his crew.  My wife and I weren't home during the day, but after talking through the project with John and meeting the guys we felt very comfortable with them working while we were out. <br /> They worked quickly and I stayed in touch with John via email during the day.  Most evenings I would get home in time to catch him before he left and we'd walk through the progress.  All in all, the communication was very, very good.  John kept me in the loop on everything that was going on. <br /> There were no additional costs above the original quote -- even when he found out he forgot to include a few of the little things like doorknobs, hinges, and air vent covers.  He covered these. <br /> After the job was over -- John still came back out to make sure the little details were properly taken care of.  For example, one of the air vents had a stripped screw that we found when I had the ducts cleaned a week later.  John came back out and swapped out the full vent. <br /> There was a bit of dust in the house with all the demo and drywalling, but I don't know if that's really avoidable with a big job like this. <br /> Without hesitation we'd have John back for more work!  In fact, we already had him back for some work in the living room.

We were very impressed with them. I used to be a professional in home repair but I am 73 years old now so I know what needs to be done but can’t do it myself so we were very impressed with their professionalism. We would definitely go with them if we decided to go ahead with the project.  It’s hard to impress me but the gentleman who came out here did. They were right in time and one gentleman came back another day just to greet us because he was in the neighborhood. He just sat and talked about some prices for things that he had checked on and was giving us different options on how we could do the things that we wanted him to do. At time he gave us the quote he didn’t quite exactly know if he could get the things to match the house with the car port. He was very nice and gave us options about what each company could do. He had been checking on his computer which made us feel like he was a professional because the others would just come out and give a quote and walk away. We had explained to him that at the present times we weren’t in a position to do anything because we didn’t have the money though we were waiting to get the car port covered before the snow or the rain came in. He understood that we were older people and we didn’t have a lot of money since we were on a fixed income. He informed us that he had tried to cut the costs down to the lowest dollar that he possibly could.

This company blew away all my expectations.  We discussed the job on the phone and the owner John gave me a quote while I was at work -- their quote was very reasonably priced and much better than the overpriced competition.  John insisted on meeting me and discussing the job before starting, which was nice because I knew we were on the same page.  John and Tony (painter) were professional, upstanding, and positive.  John recommended a trusty paint (NOT the most expensive!) and kept me informed when any plans changed.  The team did extensive prep work -- over twelve hours worth -- and I know because I checked on them.  But the REAL proof was after a day of painting.  I got home and I HATED the color!  John was on the phone immediately and I told him I just couldn't go on with this color -- not only that, but I needed help picking one out (my girlfriend lives in another state!!).  So John met me at Sherwin Williams at 7pm to pick out a new color.  He knew exactly what would go with my deep red brick.  Over the next two days, the team finished the house off, scraping, spraying, and rolling their way through the house, the garage, and the concrete foundation.  They did not get one drop of paint on the deck and they even repaired and replaced the soffit boxes!  When I came home and it was finished, I couldn't believe how good it looked.  John called me that very night to give a personal inspection.  We walked around the house and identified problem areas that should be touched up.  He would not give me a bill until I was completely satisfied.  He came back the next day and fixed everything we talked about.  This is simply the best experience working with a contractor that I have ever had.

I used this contractor for a huge home renovation... John, the owner, is great to work with and he is extremely honest...his workers were overall good as well...he is licensed and insured and provided me with that info on paper before the work started. This contractor completed and entire basement build out...a gut and remodel of a bathroom, putting french doors thru a wall in dining room out to a very large composite deck that they also built, they installed glass block windows, interior painting, they completed a partial attic build out... The work was excellent....this contractor has the skills to do any job... I would use him again but he did everything for me last summer. You can use this contractor with confidence... The only reason I did not give him all A's is because I have VERY high standards...
