I debated before writing this review since I wanted this to be a good experience but sadly, I feel it must be shared. First, the positive, Jon’s men did a good job on the whole and were appropriate and well behaved. The project was new siding on the house, and we had quotes from 8-10 contractors. At first Jon appeared to be clean in his books; he came and took measurements and then provided a quote including tax (he indicated he used a lower industry rate for example of $140-$150 between 2 men). While not the lowest, we found him to be reasonable and above all, available for the work in a few weeks. Getting the quote and follow up did take persistent calling and messaging, and I found myself doing all the work, calling lumber yards, negotiating pricing, inquiring about different types of material and so on – I found them to be more helpful and knowledgeable than Jon. Jon was kept abreast, and he even promised on print text to lowering the price to $1000 less than quoted on. Finally, the work started, and Jon advised me that if we had got pre-painted panels, it would cost $1000-$2000 more; however, since those were backordered 4 months, we had to go with the unpainted cheaper panels, which we planned for anyway. The house was later painted by another contractor, which cost a separate substantial amount and over three times the cost of pre-painted panels. During the work, Jon increased the invoice that was based on the initial quote without informing me (and later explained the material strips, which he did not discuss the price of with me at all, cost that much more). I caught it (so each time you go to pay, you’ll see the quote changed) but since it was $700 more so I confirmed on print that I was okay with it. However, when I got his final invoice, he asked for $4000 over the estimate, which was shocking! Jon will keep touting that it’s because of the ¼ inch strips (around the house) that the whole job cost double now, but that is a lie. For one, the material and the style were the same as before when the quote was provided, and for two it is impossible to believe that the cost of a few strips would actually amount to double the material cost of the entire house. Jon also pushed for those (which I later learned were pricier) strips without explaining or informing me that these were pricier than others saying “they were already there” loudly and aggressively – ties in with his hurried manner to fit in as many jobs as possible, even if unprofessionally. Since it was $700 more, I let it go. However, had I been informed, and the pricing discussed, since the strips were decorative on top of the main panels, I would have opted for another material. When he left, he left in a rush and left me a pack of invoices saying this is what I owed him. I had to add up all the invoices on my own and share with him the Excel sheet of the additions. Then Jon harassed me with new invoices every few days after the job was done (so no pay by date), increasing prices on aspects clearly reflected by him on print that were unchangeable long after the work was even finished. I still paid him the material cost based off the invoices (we don’t know if he actually used all those items as he drove off with material in his truck), which was over $2200 than quoted. Since this was not a project that you would encounter difficulties (say you were repairing something and found something broken that needed fixing and then got approval), I have overall found this to be unethical and unprofessional and bait and switch type. Not once did Jon alert me of this price increase, let alone not being able to meet the $1000 less than quoted promise he made or it being a whopping $4000 more, and he certainly didn’t get my approval – we could have gone with other companies that offer excellent financing options had we known. Other contractors have since come to the home to do other projects and we have had no problems with quotes or payment. Unfortunately, I am unable to recommend or hire Jon again for services and have to reach out to external parties for assistance.
