NOTE: Kargmans, Inc. and Jewel Remodelers is the same company. DO NOT USE THIS VENDOR! This has been the worse experience I have ever had with a home improvement vendor. Jason, the Project Manager, came to my house on 3/9/18 to assess the work I needed done. Job 1: Paint Prep and Condensation Repair in Bathroom Crew was scheduled to arrive between 8am-9am, but no sign of anyone at 10am. I called the office and Arthur Kargman, the owner, was very apologetic and had someone there by 12 noon. It took him about 8 hours over two days to complete the work. Work was fine, but he only did the paint prep on the spots that I pointed out (I am an inexperienced DIY guy). After he left I found several other spots that an experienced person should have noticed and taken care of. The bathroom ceiling has also started to peel again, but to be fair I don't know if that is a result of his work or poor ventilation in my BR, which I have tried to correct. Job 2: Screen Door Installation Two words...Train wreck. It took over a month for Jason to get my screen door ordered. (It had to be a custom size due to my older row home not having a standard size opening.) I also told him that at a minimum I need my current undersized door, and the frame that was built in the opening to make it fit, taken off my house because I was getting new furniture delivered and needed to make sure I had access to the entire door opening. This didn't happen until the night before the furniture was being delivered. However, they didn't remove the build-in frame, so the opening was not any larger than when the door was still on the house. Finally, the morning the furniture was being delivered someone came by and removed frame so I had the whole opening available. During those 4-6 weeks that I was trying to get the new door ordered and the old one removed, I had numerous phone calls and texts with Jason asking for status updates. (I still have some of these on my phone.) He always had some excuse: he had to check with the foreman, he was checking to see if they already have one in stock that might fit, etc. After a month or so he said they had to order the door, and of course he needed $275 paid in advance before ordering the door. I give him the check and 3 or so weeks later I checked in with him (because he would never proactively communicate with me) and the door had just been delivered. By now it was almost Memorial Day. I scheduled the install no less than 3 times over the next 4-5 weeks. When they cancelled again on June 29th the office manager, Krista Barlow, told me she would process a refund check of $275 that I paid them for the door. Over the next 2+ months I followed up with both Krista and Arthur at least a dozen times via voice mail and email about my refund and never received a response from them. I then filed a complaint with the BBB in late August or September, to which Jewel/Kargmans never responded. To this day I have not heard from the company or received my refund check, and I am now getting quotes from other vendors for this door installation plus replacement of 2 additional doors on my house. I wound up paying $800 for only $525 worth of work. Stay away from this company. They are dishonest, unethical and unprofessional.

The painter was due at 8:30, he showed up at 11:00, and didn't realize that he was supposed to paint a ceiling. I had told the office what the job was, how high the ceiling was etc. He hemmed and hawed, called the office, and they said they had to send someone out on another day. I had scheduled this a month in advance, had confirmed that the appointment was set the day before, and had taken off from work and lost a vacation day for nothing. Do not trust their scheduling. Unfortunately, since this was a pay in advance special deal, I have to wait for them another day.

Absolutely the worst company I have ever done business with. I represent my Aunt and Uncles Estate and had to run many people off in their final years because people were taking advantage of them. Kargmans is immoral! They did not do the work but kept the deposit and will not return the deposit. Kargmans should be ashamed that even in death people continue to take advantage of the elderly. Kargmans was contacted for an estimate to replace a few damaged windows prior to an Estate sale. Kargmans provided an estimate on 12/13/2016. The Estate Attorney paid the required deposit on 12/14/16. On February 20th replacement windows were delivered to the home and were ten-inches too big for the window frame. The new homeowner and I allowed Kargmans to take corrective action and the windows were re-measured around February 23rd. Despite several attempts from the homeowner to receive an update from Kargmans there has never been a response from the company. The homeowner and I were concerned because the person managing the job had departed Kargmans and neither of us had any confidence the reorder was placed. Despite the homeowners efforts to contact Kargmans there were no emails of call back for over a month. The homeowner contact myself so I made three phone calls to Kargmans and received no call backs or information about our order. March 31st I called for an update and was promised the homeowner and I would receive an update via email on Monday April 3rd and there was no email response or call back. April 11th I called and requested an update before the end of day or I would terminate the relationship with Kargmans. I received no call back on April 11th or 12th. April 13th at 1036 AM I called and terminated the relationship with Kargmans. Our relationship with Kargmans stared on December 1, 2016 and the job was supposed to be completed on February 20, 2017. Kargmans gross error in the window measurement, failure to respond to requests for information and their own confusion about the contracted work has led to the termination of this contract. After the verbal firing I followed up in writing. No response from the company to myself or the attorney. I sent a second letter via registered mail which Kargmans signed on 6/22/17. Kargmans has never responded. I turned the matter over to the Estate Attorney so they could attempt to collect the deposit. The Estate attorney attempted to contact Kargmans and the company did not return and phone calls. The matter was sent to the litigation team to pursue a lawsuit against Kargmans. Recently I was contacted by the Attorney and notified the attorney fees would be about three times more than the amount of money we were trying to recover from the estate. As personal representative of the Estate I told the attorney not to take further action and I would file several complaints against the company. If this was a personal matter for me I would have filed a lawsuit on principle but being a good steward on the Estate’s finances I won’t add a financial burden to the Estate’s financial account.

The job was unprofessional installed, they didn't have all the tools that was needed. My kitchen floor was damaged. The tiles was not placed evenly. Everyday they took a hour for lunch and would leave to pick-up more supplies, most of it was never used or needed on my project and they had the nerve to think I was going to pay for it. I paid them for what was needed.

My experience with Kargmans has been by far the worst I have ever had with any company. I had them come and give me an estimate on a few different jobs I wanted to get done. I found the deal on Angie's List for 40 hours of labor that I could purchase. I called to get some more information on this deal and wanted to get an idea of how much work I could get done in the 40 hours. I wanted to replace some ceramic tile in my foyer/powder room (roughly 200 square feet), replace the vanity/toilet in the powder room, replace a kitchen sink, and add some backsplash in the kitchen. I was told this would definitely be doable or very close to it. To help speed up the process, I even removed roughly 80% of the existing ceramic tile myself. They initially scheduled the contractors to arrive at 830am, but I had requested they come at 930 because I had to drop my child off at school. When I got back to my home, I found out they had arrived at 830 because no one had told them to come at 930. They reviewed all three jobs with me before they began work and never questioned if the timeframe for the work was reasonable. They sent two contractors so they had 2.5 days to complete the work. I did not know how to really guage the progress, but by about half way through the second day, it was obvious that they were not even going to finish the first job (tile/powder room). I called the office to get an explanation about it and they basically told me there was nothing they could do and that if I needed more time to finish the job, I would have to purchase more hours. Given that I didn't want to leave my house in that state I purchased additional hours to try to at least finish the foyer and powder room. They were not able to even complete the job with the additional hours, but I decided to not pay any additional money for that work. To make matters worse, the sink in the bathroom began to to leak immediately. It would leak, but not consistently and I was unable to determine what was causing the leak to get them to come out with it happened. I called several times when it would leak, but they never were able to send someone out when it was leaking to determine the problem. I was already frustrated because I felt misled from the beginning about the work I would be getting done and the leak only made it worse. I tried for several months to get in touch with Arthur (the owner) to get an explanation about the initial contract and to get my sink fixed, but I gave up when he would not call me back. I finally got a call back from Jim, my initial estimator and COO and he set up a call with himself, Erin (the administrator), and Arthur. I explained my issues with the contract and the sink. The only thing that they said is that this is normal amount of time it takes to do a job like that. I honestly have no idea what a reasonable timeline is, but why did they tell me they could complete the 3 jobs that I requested? It is unreasonable to tell me they can do roughly 3 jobs during that time to not even completing 1. They did however promise to fix the leaking sink since that was still in the warranty window. They next time it leaked I called, but again, they could not send someone immediately. They sent someone several days later when it was no longer leaking. The plumber could not tell what the issue was and left without doing anything. As my 1 year warranty was coming to a close I wanted them to just redo the sink so that it would be fixed hopefully. I tried for 2 months to get someone to come out but had no luck. Finally I informed them that I would just file a claim with the BBB because I was getting nowhere with them. It was at this point that Arthur finally gave me a call and then somehow claimed to not know what the issue was. I re-explained everything again and he finally sent someone to come out and fix the sink. It has only been a few weeks so I am not sure the issue is completely resolved, but in fixing the leak the plumber broke another part of the sink. I called him back to let him know of the issue and it has been about a month now and no one has come to fix it and I have not received any communication from them. I can not understand how they can tell me over the phone how important customer service is and then run their business like.

I put down a down payment. Some of the work I had contracted for, was work outside. Because it was so late in the year I didn't want the work done immediately. I left the deposit with them and made an appointment for this Spring - they didn't show up; I made another appointment - they didn't call or show. Then I got an email telling me to go with another contractor and that they weren't going to do the work. I said fine; they said they would send me out a check on July 6th for the balance. I've called, emailed and finally received email apologizing and saying they would send it the following Wednesday. No check. This last time they're now saying last Friday they were going to send out the check and NO CHECK.

Everything went very well. The front door (which was a fairly heavy one-piece unit with side panels, etc and etched glass) was hung slightly off-balanced. We didn't notice till the weather stripping started coming off and also some water had seeped into the room (very little ... we actually noticed the marks, not the actual water). So we called the company and they sent someone out and he took one look at the door and told us that they had put it in incorrectly and he would send a crew to fix it. Sure enough within a few days it was all fixed and the door now swings much more smoothly as well. I know they screwed up a bit...but I have still given them an A, because it was a small mistake, but more importantly they did not give us any excuses or run around. The guy admitted they had done something incorrectly and he went ahead and arranged for it to be fixed asap.

Horrible! Luckily they never asked for payment after work so we never ended up paying them even after contacting them regarding fixing issues and then paying them. We saw a deal for a handyman for $1647 for 40 hours worth of work on Angie's List. While I was pregnant we had bought fancy tiles and materials intending my husband to install and save money that way but then things got hectic, baby arrived and we decided to hire someone to install. Called the company to have them come ***** our job and they said no need to purchase deal through Angie's List, they would just give us that price without having to actually purchase it through the website. Their guy came out and said his worker could definitely install our large glass subway tiles and marble tiles and that 40 hours would be plenty of time since it's a small shower stall. He would send two workers at first one to cut the tiles while the other installed. The day work starts and the two workers hardly speak a word of English. I show them the work and materials and they try to explain that they need other materials to do job even though the original guy had looked over what we had and said it was good. So we end up having to go out and get more stuff eating into the time. I don't have a problem with workers speaking Spanish but I need to be able to communicate and that was difficult. Then over the days they worked there were always 2 guys but only one worked inside, the other cut the tiles outside and brought them in but then just sat around when he was done. So the time that each guy was here both added up to the 40 hour total but only one guy worked the whole time. So 8 hours of 2 workers took 16 hours out of total even though one didn't work the entire time. Also, they took lunch breaks but their 40 hour total was accounted for from arrival in AM to departure in PM so apparently I was paying for their break. We spoke with contact at company about the fact that work seemed to be taking so long and were told by her "that's why I tell my customers to check in on the workers and tell them "chop, chop" if it seems like they aren't getting enough done". First of all, she never said that to us, second of all, why is it our job to manage their workers? Midway thru work we noticed that they had cracked some of the tiles yet installed them anyway ( we had checked every single tile before hand when we bought them to make sure no cracks). We told them this and they said they could remove and install new ones if we got them so we bought more. The last day of install I am downstairs and hear a loud bang on floor upstairs like something heavy and metal was dropped. The worker never said anything so I assumed no damage occurred and I didn't check because I was tending to my baby. After he left I look at work and he cracked multiple floor tiles in shower and bathroom floor with whatever he dropped. Also, grout was crumbling in places, had holes in others. Contacted company and they sent out foreman to check out damage. He was apologetic and said he had another guy that's very good and he would come fix what he could though we would have to get more tiles. Our contact at company said she would get the replacement materials for us. After that, we never hear from them. Contact them again and are told that they are ordering materials and will get in touch when they arrive. Never hear from them again. Months go by and we decide to get another contractor but we want something in writing saying the company will not attempt to get payment in future. We contact them saying this and a new lady is running things now and said the previous person left and didn't mention this to her. She apologizes and asks that we let her speak to the company owner about making this right. We say ok. Never hear from her. 2 weeks later we contact again saying we just want the thing in writing. She says owner has been out of country but she is putting it together and will get that to us when he gets back following week. Never hear from them again. Attempted contacting them again, no response. Glad we never paid but still upset we spent a lot of money on expensive tiles and now have to rip them out. Now, months later a new crack has appeared in a previously uncracked tile and we haven't even been using the shower. The install must be so bad that the thing is just falling apart. Other contractors we've had in said the job is awful and very unprofessional. So we are having to rip it all out and have another company install cheaper tiles since we are having to spend even more money. Make sure you always purchase deal through Angie's List so Angie's can help in the matter. If the company says you don't need to purchase it through the Angie's List website, be suspicious.

Horrible, I am in the process of filing complaints with the MHIC , and the guarantee fund. It has been a year since they were hired for what was supposed to be a 60 day or so project. The quality of work has been abysmal. I have given them FAR to many opportunities to correct the defective work. I have 15k in hardwood flooring that needs to be completely ripped out, Kargmans left me with a leaky roof for over a month, then never came back to repair the interior. The scope of work has never been completed, I have open permits. They are unskilled and unprofessional, no one will be supervising your project and they utilize unlicensed subcontractors, they will tell you they are employees and covered under their insurance. They are not.

Excellent. Their team of experts were the very best. From the painters to the construction masters, they definitely knew what they were doing. Our front porch was ready to fall down. Now it looks like a brand new house. They took care of every detail. The kitchen, now freshly painted, also looks new and the door they replaced is much safer than the one we had.

First I was told by Erin, they will sent out one contractor for a week. Two young mexican was sent, one did not speak english. The other young man appeared to be the interpreter and seem to be in training. The young man that did not speak english came in and started measuring the floor then he opened a box of tile and counted all the boxes and told me I did not have enough tile. I assured him that there is more than enough tiles. I informed them that these tiles come from Italy that is why I had to wait almost a 1 1/2 years for them to come in. When they finished the floors, I had 5 + boxes left that tells you alot about there professionalism. So much time was wasted because the two did everything together: mix mortar, mix level quik which was a disaster they put too much down in the dining rm. that flowed onto my kitchen tiles which they was unable to clean entirely, they did not have the proper tools to smooth the level quik evenly or to measure if leveled properly. When installing the dining porcelain tile the tile at my kitchen entrance is higher then my kitchen floor. They damage one of the tiles on my top step going to the lower level when installing porcelain tile. The upstairs hall floor was not installed properly, they is a gap in the flooring next to the bathrm marble tile, the upstairs closet was not done. Walter installed a basement door and did not installed the knob. They took the rest of my floor planks, they damaged my vertical blinds and several slats and 1 floor vent was discarded. They wasted alot of time, everyday one would go to the store, both took a 1/2 hr. lunch everyday. Some materials they purchase must had been for another job, because it was never used on my project. Some of the materials they left that was never used, I told them to take it with them. I was told I could take it back to the store, I told them that is your responsibility not mines. They did not clean up well inside or outside, did not put items back where they were at. I truly regret every hiring them.

It didn't go very well for me at first. The person that was doing the painting didn't do a good job. He said he didn't know he was supposed to take the nicks out of the door and fill them in with putty and then paint over them. He just painted the door and the nicks that I wanted out were still in there. That's okay, they sent someone else out and fixed it and satisfied it with me. I had asked for the repair and the guy didn't have the equipment. He said he didn't know that he was supposed to fix the door. He thought he was just supposed to paint the door, not fix the nicks all over. The wood on the door had nicks in it. Like I said, they took care of it. I'm satisfied with what they did. I called them, told them what my problem was, they sent someone else out, the guy fixed the door, and now I'm happy with it. When I called, she sent someone out the very next day.

The drywall repair was excellent. I could not ask for more, or better. The patches that needed fixing were extremely large, and you cannot tell that anything was done. If all you need is drywall repair, stop reading now, and hire Kargman's. Our main thoughts were that they did a great job, eventually. They had to come out and fix things twice and that shows great customer service and responsiveness. We just would prefer not having multiple trips. The carpentry ended up being excellent as well, and it was an admittedly tough job getting baseboards attached to brick, and trim along the walls where drywall met the brick. The main issue we had was that there were some sloppy places at first that needed Kargman's to come back out and fix. They were great in doing this, and bent over backwards to come out and do it again, but it would have been better not to have to have anyone come back out. The real issue we had was with the painting. Eventually, it all looks great and the final product is perfect. It's just that they had to come back out and clean up painted over faceplates, trim, and a door. They did eventually get it pretty much right, but it took a while. So again, everything turned out great and looks great, but it's not above average or done on the first try, so we couldn't give an A.
