Electrical for Home Addition or Remodel - Install, Electrical for Home Addition, Electrical Wiring or Panel Upgrade,

About us

I have been building and remodeling homes since 1980. My years of experience have given me insight into what details and materials I can incorporate into my projects that my customers will benefit from year to year. I always upgrade in areas that will benefit the homeowner, for instance, I use Radiant Barrier Sheeting for all new or replacement roofing. This will give years of savings on Heating and AC. Whenever possible, I use Engineered beams that won't twist or sag like common wood beams. Tuscan and Mediterranean style homes are our forte. By using Acrylic Color Coatings instead of common stucco, we create homes that don't have exterior cracking. For years, I have worked with the same designer and engineer. We can build any style or vision of your dream home to life. We build and remodel homes in all price ranges for clients of all backgrounds. Recently, we completed a 5,000 sf home in Arcadia. Our quality of workmanship led to three other projects in that area. Through word of mouth, we have projects from Temecula to San Gabriel. Please email - katonabuilt@roadrunner.com

RUN FROM THIS GUY!!!! HE WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND HE WILL MAKE YOU GO BANKRUPT WITH HIS STUPIDITY AND LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. It did not go well. Fist of all, Paul does not like to work with women and even though my name was on the contract , he never liked to respected me in the whole process. He started walking away when I ( a woman) tried to bring up my concerns to him. I should have fired him right there and then to cut my loses. second of all, he is NO where near being able to handle big jobs . he is all over and he does not manage the job in a professional manner. The contract was to built a new home in the city of Rancho Cucamonga, In his contract he stated that the job would take from 6-7 months, well we are about 18 months and we are still NOT finished. He uses un-licensed subs on the job claiming they are licensed. He is very messy and he expect the homeowner to clean up the sub contractors mess. ( I mean everything- we are talking about left over tiles, grout, construction materials ) over all very poor management. He over promised and under delivers. On pouring the drive way , he DID NOT call for city inspection and the city made us re-do the whole job and that was additional 3-4 weeks extra waste of time going back and forth with the city. and of course he does not man up to take the fault and he blamed the homeowner and the sub-contractor to pay for his fault. at the end, he also assaulted my husband and attacked him. again run away he is not worth your time and energy.

"Angie's new Ad Campaign states, " Real Reviews by Real People".... REALLY.... I've waited 9 months for a California State License Board determination of my case. It is commonly known that the CSLB was created to protect the Consumer. General Contractors have guide lines that are closely monitored by the License Board. I was found to not be guilty of all of the LIES that spewed from this individual. It is unfortunate that this individual can say whatever they want, no matter how badly it affects my livelihood. As for the quality of my craft, hidden in all the Lies listed above, Quality is rated "A"."

We would definitely use Paul again. He responded to our call right away and came out the next day to look at our project. He gave us some great ideas, that's one of the main reason we choose him. I had an idea of what I wanted my dream kitchen to look like and he definitely exceeded that. Katona Built Construction was very professional and always listened to my needs during the remodel.

Paul was fantastic, he exceeded my expectations. I needed someone that I could trust and who was responsive since I am Property Management and handled the rehab project for a very important client The first project involved gutting out the front unit because the tenant that I inherited was a hoarder. The unit was a total mess, it had mold on the walls and floors from all the years that the home was filled with junk. Paul, made the home look new even though the unit is more than 50 years old. The work he did in the back unit went just as smoothly and I was able to raise the rents by more than 20%. Great job all around. Katonabuilt gave us a very reasonable bid and I will be definitely using him in the future! Thank you!
Paul is very knowledgeable, professional, and takes pride in his work. He quoted a fare price. His team was punctual, fast, and cleaned up after themselves every day of the job. The finished product was exactly what I'd asked for.
Paul was great. We hired him originally to demo the kitchen and remove a
wall that was between the Living Room and Kitchen. Once completed, I
had another group coming in to build and put up the new kitchen and
island. That went horribly and asked Paul if he could do it for us, he
had other jobs lined up and but said he would help us out. It took a
little longer to complete because he had to work this new project into
his already booked schedule, but it got done and looks great. Paul was
here most of the time hands on, but when he couldn?t be here his staff
worked just as hard and were friendly. If Paul doesn?t like the way a
project was done on these days, he gets his guys back right away and
makes sure its done to his standards (cant ask for better than that). We
like working with him so much that we have hired him again to do some
work on our fireplace. He is affordable and beat the prices of other
contractors we interviewed. I truly can?t stress enough how great this
process was, and if you hire him I?m sure you would be as happy as we
were with his work.
We called several Angies list contractors and some came out, some didn't even return call.
Katonabuilt responded immediately and got an estimate to me in record time with suggestions and improvements.
After some contractors responded we decided Katonabuilt was the best bet.
It took longer than he said but the project came out good. We are satisfied after all.
Paul worked with me by letting me do work in steps and phases, he let me buy my own material independently, allowed me to contribute some of my own labor, suggested modifications and checked on the work regularly.
Since I had two crooked columns in my front walkway that needed to be replaced, it was an opportunity to remodel and do a facelift. Worked started in June, but was interrupted by me going on vacation a couple of times, also I had other work done that necessitated a break.
By letting me do some of my own work and buy my own material I saved a bundle. I knew Paul was the right contractor for the job when his bid came in almost $800 lower than 4 other bids for the first phase of the job. I knew from talking to him that he was a regular guy with a good personality and sense of humor and he knew his stuff too. If another contractor came in and was not so flexible as Paul and insisted on doing all the work and buying all the material I would have easily spent about triple the final cost.
All work was professional, and completed in a timely manner. Any problems pointed out were corrected without hesitation. Subcontractors/workers pointed out problems beforehand and involved me with arriving at solutions I could live with.
I received continuous compliments from neighbors and passers-by and I think Katonabuilt even got a few more jobs from referrals. Eventually I had to ask for a few business cards as I got tired of writing down his name and phone number every day. If I can't post pictures here I will send them to the contractor.
I would use Katonabilt again without hesitation and I'm completely satisfied. Even my wife is happy with the final work ...now that's saying a lot. .
Overall it was a very long and time consuming task. There was so much down time that I could have done other things but I was told someone was coming to do whatever job and they never showed up or called. So I would call Paul and he would ashure me someone was to be there the next AM but again noone showed (especially if it was supposed to be Paul himself). It was very frustrating. Some things I just let go of because I didn't want it to drag out anymore but were items we had discussed.
Response from Katonabuilt Construction
"This job did take longer than originally planned. When we removed wallpaper, as I had advised the member prior to removal, the walls behind the paper wasn't primed. The drywall sustained heavy damage, The walls and partial ceiling had to be floated and re-textured. When a homeowner purchases materials directly, as the member did, they need guidance to help buy the correct items. I waited for a number of items and decisions to be made regarding tile and hood-vent. I assembled and installed the cabinets myself. I built and installed the cabinets over her range. I told the member what size hood to buy. I even told her what model hood NOT to buy, being too large. She purchased the one I told her not to buy and said that's the one she wanted. I had to remove and custom build all the upper cabinets in that area. These two items extended the job an extra 10 days. Regarding placement of lighting, I always have my clients work with my Electrician to determine light placement, "It is their house". I made sure we included a separate light over the sink, but otherwise, the homeowner knows where they need work space lighting. I also met the member and her husband in Anaheim, twice, to assist her in selecting granite for her counters, 40 miles away. The member requested glass doors on some of her upper cabinets. She picked the glass she wanted and received pricing from her glass shop. I thought the pricing was too high, so I went looking for better pricing. Since the owner supplies the materials, that wasn't part my job, but I saved the member 50% of the cost she was quoted. The same for her stainless steel sink. Regarding not being on the job, I met with all my Sub-Contractors, none of which had to re-do their work.I assembled and installed the cabinets myself. Since much of the pre-assembled cabinets had to be custom built, I was on location rebuilding and custom fitting many of the cabinets. The member also stated that she would like to have a lazy-susan in her new kitchen. There wasn't much space, but I worked with her to assure that she and her husband "loved" the final product. I included custom end panels and over $ 250.00 worth of hardware at no additional cost. Yes the job took longer than the 5 weeks stated in the contract. But I made sure that the members were happy with their new kitchen. I wasn't there everyday, but when I completed the member's new kitchen, I was told how much they "Loved" the kitchen and what "nice work" I did."

Paul Katona was knowledgeable but he sub-contracted a lot out & thus a lot had to be redone. I also had to wait a lot of the time for him or sub-contractors to show up. They never showed or called. My 3 wk job became 6 1/2 wks. Looks good but some things could have been done differently but at that point I wanted it done & over with.

The remodel went pretty smoothly, we had 8 people living in the whole house remodel, so any bumps we had were just coordinating movement and getting the areas done, not a bad thing, we just had to move around a lot so that each part could be done. I am glad we were here during the remodel, but I don't think I would live in the house through one again..it can be stressful. I like the fact that I could telephone, email, or text Paul and he would respond quickly. We were able to have constant communication with him, good or bad. Paul was willing to work everything out and we are very satisfied with our remodel. Currently, we are finishing up our punch list, and we are having him bid on a patio remodel.

The things we would do differently would have; all appliances on hand sooner than later this allows for better measurements on cabinets; have all fixtures ready and at the house, because if they have to be special ordered nothing will get delayed. If you are using a local retailer make sure there is enough product in stock; tile, granite, flooring picked out and ready to go. We chose to buy our own appliances and fixtures, rather than having Paul do it, that way we got what we wanted and did not have to be on a budget where those items were concerned. We spent another 20,000.00 on these items. I have a 2300 sq ft house, three bedrooms two bathrooms.

Any problems that came up on the job were resolved in a timely manor, communication is very important. There were no problems that were major, just bumps that happen with any construction project. We would definitely refer him to our friends and neighbors.

I like what he has done so far. He has been doing this for about three and half months and my whole house is approx 2300 sq ft. If there was anything that I wasn’t happy with or I wanted to be fixed Paul was happy to fix it. He didn’t change order every little thing he did and that was nice. I like everything. I am happy with him and would use him again. In fact, I have another project for him. I got a lot of bids and his price was good. What I like about him very much is that even if he is not here working, I can email or text him or call him on the telephone, he is always easy to get a hold of and I like that. He is very professional.

Came day after giving quote. Was on time and started work right away. These guys really worked hard and fast. They were done in 2 days. We told them we needed it done quickly and they couldn't have done better with that timeline. They went over and above what they agreed to do and tiled the shower without extra charge. They cleaned up after and everything sparkled when we got there to inspect. I would definitely call them again!

After the job was completed we asked Paul to come back & look at our dishwasher because it wasn't draining correctly. He came right away & we found out the Miele dish washer was defective. Paul and his crew always showed up on time and was able to complete our project before our family arrived from out of town. This was the second time we've used KatonaBuilt Construction and I would highly recommend him.

It went very well! Fireplace sub built a terrible fireplace. Paul recognized the problem and had him take it down and do it correctly. It's beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better place to hang out as a family!

Overall, the experience was great. The technicians were neat and cleaned up after each day. They did their work and were on time and courteous. They were very creative as well and had great ideas & suggestions. The price was reasonable. I'm very happy with what they did and the outcome. I'm happy with their services and I would highly recommend them to others.
