We had recently bought a new home. Originally, I purchased this deal with the idea that he could repair the back wall of a shower in the basement which had leaked and become moldy. However, at about the same time that I purchased this deal I found out that the upstairs shower was also leaking. I knew that these items could not both be repaired in one day, however I hoped to hire Mr. Sweet to do both jobs knowing that I would need to pay for extra work. <br /> The first time Mr. Sweet came to look at the job he offered to come in the evening after I returned home from work. I told him I could not be home until 6:30 and he agreed to come at that time. Instead he arrived a 6:00, spoke with my wife, who did not know all of the details of what needed to be done, and left before I got home. When I spoke with him shortly thereafter, he said there was no mold in basement. Note that it was clearly visible and my concern had been confirmed by a plumber previously. The plumber had also said that the wallboard was the wrong type to use as shower wall backing. Mr. Sweet disagreed and said that it was the right type and therefore couldn't grow mold. <br /> He also said that he thought that the upstairs shower walls were fine, but that there was a problem with the faucet. Previously, the plumber had said that the faucet and piping was fine. <br /> Early in the process, Mr. Sweet said that he preferred to come several times for short amounts of time rather than coming for one full day of work and I agreed. Scheduling was a problem throughout the process as Mr. Sweet seldom returned phone calls and often when he answered the phone he would say that he would call back the following day - and then would not do so. However, to his credit, when he committed to a date he would show up that day. <br /> The upstairs bathroom was the higher priority. I convinced Mr. Sweet to re-grout the shower walls. When he did, he started by removing some caulk at the bottom of the wall and a bunch of water ran out of the wall - clearly the source of the problem downstairs, not an issue with the faucet. <br /> After regrouting the upstairs shower and confirming that the leak had stopped (he had previously cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling), Mr. Sweet said he would send some of his workers to repair the ceiling. After that, he said he would paint the kitchen ceiling. His workers did come as scheduled to repair the ceiling and put on a coat of primer paint. However, he never followed up with the ceiling painting. <br /> He also never followed up with the request to work on the basement bathroom and I ended up hiring a different contractor to do that work. That contractor also agreed that there was mold and that the wallboard was of the wrong type. <br /> To Mr. Sweet's credit, although the process took several months to complete (to the extent it was completed), he and his workers certainly put in more than 8 hours of total work and did not charge me for work over the 8 hours. I think the work that he completed was more than fair for the cost charged. However, although he verbally agreed to do additional work, he was not responsive to taking on the extra work. If I had known in advance that he did not want the work, I could have hired another contractor earlier and had use of the basement bathroom far earlier. <br />

Ken and Bob (the main guy who worked here) were friendly, always willing to explain what they were doing, and very respectful of the house's historic character. Their work was meticulous. We were also having the house painted, and because the garage repair took so long, the two crews overlapped. Bob managed to work around the painters, so that everything could be finished before it got too cold to work outside. I hired this company because of an Angie's List special deal. I'd call them again in a heartbeat. <br />

Since 1977 I have worked on several historical homes in Washington D.C. , Chevy Chase, Relay, Westminister, Baltimore and for you to have the original drawings of the house I found amazing.Because of these drawings I was able to find a mistake by others and restore the fascia and gutter trofts to the original architects intent. The garage had extensive termite damage in three of the four supporting corners. I am glad we were able to save the 10 inch cedar siding as it is impossible to find old growth wood like what is on your house. Ken was very prompt on initial contact and scheduling of the work. However, I purchased 2 additional hours at $85/hour(paid upfront) and they needed to come back to finish the job. That's when it got very frustrating. I believe they were overwhelmed from the response to this daily deal. Ken would say he was going to look at the schedule and call me back on a certain day/night. and it didn't happen. It was a lot of frustration and I feel I got what I paid for on this daily deal. Never again! <br />

Ken and his team arrived on time and walked with me through the work I needed done. They were very courteous, and Ken took the time to tell me what he was going to do fix the problems. He was upfront about any additional costs (they were very minimal) and additionally took some time to look at other potential projects I made need done in the future. There work was top quality and I was very pleased with the results. I had to leave for a meeting while they were at my house and when I returned about two hours later, everything was complete and cleaned up. <br /> They provided excellent work and excellent customer service. I would highly recommend them! <br />

K.D. Sweet Construction made a very favorable impression. The appointment was set up quickly, on the day of the job Ken showed up on time, and was prepared to start. Quality of the work was topnotch, and although I was using an Angieslist deal that had a specific number of hours of work, it showed that they were more interested in completing the job correctly than how long it took, but with that said they were very efficient and completed the work quickly and at a high standard. <br /> I would say they went beyond the call of duty as I didn't have all the necessary parts for one of the jobs but they took care of it anyway. I also had them trouble shoot another issue unrelated to the appointment and Ken showed his professionalism by going the extra mile to be helpful. I will certainly be using him/them again in the future and can recommend him without reservation. <br />

Ken responded immediately to a promotion advertised on Angie's List. Ken arrived promptly and evaluated the job. I ran out of shoe moulding and he quickly made a trip to Home Depot to finish the job. Incorrectly installed moulding and flooring was brought to my attention and fixed. <br /> Very professional and his lead carpenter was also professional, efficient and detail-oriented. <br />

In 2002 KD Sweet Construction Company added a sunroom to our home. It is a beautiful room which has been essentially problem free. Mr. Sweet designed and built this room. Some of the main features include the building of the deck, the framing of the room and a vaulted roof with six skylights. The roof was built as an extension to the existing house and made to match perfectly. Actually, the room appears to have been a part of the original house. The room has received numerous compliments. We recommend K D Sweet Construction for its superior workmanship.

As a homeowner, I understand that repairs will be expensive at times. When I found water damage around my front door, I called several contractors to come look at it. I went with KD Sweet Construction because they seemed confident they could do the work quickly and eliminate both the damage and the source. On the day of their work, I did much of the demolition work myself yet, later, the bill reflected a greater total than the initially estimated $650. I had expected to be <em>under</em> the estimate, if anything. I had even purchased most of the materials (pre-hung door, luan for the floor, trim). I scratched my head and called the owner, Ken to ask if the bill was a mistake. He explained everything to me, but I still got the feeling that his price was inflated considering my contributions to the situation. <br /> The owner showed up on time and explained the job briefly to two of his workers. Then he left and I was left to try to communicate with them (Spanish and <em>some</em> broken English). This wasn't the most confidence inspiring move and I felt a bit uncomfortable with it. <br /> The work was sufficient and looked professional. There were some minor gaps that I later filled in with compound later before I painted. Overall, the work was good but not great. <br /> When done, the workers cleaned up fairly well and I had only minor dirt and dust to finish cleaning. That was nice. <br /> The final price reflected $90 in materials and $680 in labor. This I found a bit high, but Ken seemed to justify his workers' time at my house with the work done. <br /> I would not hire this company again. I expect more for the price I was charged and the work did not reflect what I got. Save yourself some money! <br />

"The owner had tried to make floor repairs on his own and was found not to be level we re-leveled the floor and replaced the luan. The entry wall had two rotted jacks on a rotted sill board holding the door header up that were sistered and sill board replaced. The dry wall was then patched and finished ready to paint. The floor correction attempted by owner was not included. The exterior 6" door trim was removed and door separated from transom that was being braced while header support was being replaced. We removed siding as needed and wrapped door framing in VICOR and found and repaired exterior leak. We had to take the owner bought door back to store as he had purchased wrong swing. We installed new interior casing that was not included, as owner thought we could use old but it broke. Work was being inspected as it was progressing. Lead Carpenter is fluent in English and is well experienced as is his helper, they choose to speak Spanish to each other and when addressing a customer always in English. I am not sure what demo was completed before we started besides the floor tile was up but we were not suppose to do the floor. Work was completed within 24 hours after calling, repaired the rotted header supports and floor, repaired the exterior and found the source of the leak and repaired same. Total man hours 20, more extra work was completed at no charge to customer and not reflected in invoice. We always go above and beyond what is required to correctly complete the project."

I liked the idea that he sounded very qualified. He is also an inspector. He has many licenses and credentials which is impressive to me. He estimate was several thousand dollars less than other estimates. They completed the job on time. Everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. They put tarps down and were very careful with my belongings. It was really nice that they took the time to do that. They were very attentive to my suggestions and to the way that I wanted things done. There were no missed appointments. At each step, they kept me up to date on pricing and the budget. He had a lot of good ideas and was able to come up with ways to make things much nicer. He was willing to work with friends that are materials suppliers. I am looking forward to more projects so that I can use their services again. Every morning, he was willing to be here early enough to meet me before I left for work. There was so much consideration at every turn. I can’t wait to use them again.
