They came back and checked on it when the levels weren't quite what they should be. I only have good things to say about them. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They seemed to have a lot of information about radon and how to have it removed from our house, and keep the levels down. The price was reasonable.

I just moved into a house in November of 2015 and when the inspector took the radon level it was at 3.8 with a radon fan. I was not happy at all with that. Especially since I was spending a lot of time downstairs. In the meantime I ended up having to have a 2nd sump pump and an entire french drain put in. I didn't even take new readings after that because I was positive they had to be higher. The mirror drain along the walls, which is part of the french drain and the sump pumps were allowing room air to be sucked down into the floor and compromising the radon fan. I called a couple of radon companies and Keystone was the only one who responded promptly. I explained the problem. I thought I need a bigger fan but he said "no, you need to seal the french drain and the sump pumps." He initially met with a plumber at my house to go over what would have to be done to the one sump pump because it had a water backup on it. If any lines had to be moved, the plumber would move them. He also did a smoke test to check to see if air was being drawn into the floor through the mirror drain. It was obvious that it was. He then came back about a week and a half later with the equipment he needed to seal everything up. He completely sealed the sump pumps up to make them air tight and used foam to seal the top of the mirror drain around the perimeter of the basement to make it air tight as well. It took a couple of hours and he did a really nice job. When you stood by the radon fan you couldn't hear the air being sucked down anymore. He then left me a radon test kit to check it out in a few days. The next day I went downstairs and the fan wasn't working. It was 14 years old and I have to assume that for the first time ever it was actually put to work sucking air out of the floor and the fan blew. He replaced the fan with the same kind that was there. He said it would be "ok" and that he was confident my "levels would be next to zero." I just got the results back and they are less than 0.3. Anything below 0.5 is equivalent to radon levels found in fresh air. So I am more than pleased with the service and the results.
The initial visit was $100.00. The sealing of the sump pumps and the drain was $300.00. The new fan was $595.00

adon After I contacted him, he responded promptly. While evaluating the area that needed radon mitigation, he called to discuss an area that had not been evaluated by inspectors (not affiliated with him). After accepting his price, we agreed on the day for the installation. During the installation, he was respectful and communicative. After completing the installation, he provided written warranties for me and the buyer. I highly recommend Keystone Radon Mitigators.
The service tech arrived about 15 minutes late but called to let me know he was caught in traffic. (which I thought was great) He explained to me exactly what was involved and told me how long he would take. When he was finished he explained what I had to do and answered all my questions. He was very polite and professional.
The U-level for the fan was almost max- he told me this was what it should be. I never had the radon restested as I was having a backup sump pump put in soon after. From what I saw and how low our level initially was, I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. After the backup sump was in, I called and asked if he could come back and reseal the sump cover. Initially he said he would do this- but when I called said the type of pump would make it hard and that a plumber should. Fair enough. However, the plumbers were saying it should be a radon guy. Eventually called another company who came out and found huge issues. Numerous standards of mitigation were ignored by Joe. The fan that was put in was reading 1.8 on the level- joe said this is where it should be. The company that makes the fan said optimum should be 0.5-1. The foundation pipe was blocked- it had to be drilled through to remove concrete...joe didn't even check this. With his instillation, the fan would move, MAX, 3 cubic feet per minute! We also had a separate unfinished area with plumbing rough ins- he didn't even check them, but they were supposed to be sealed as well- there needs to be a vacuum of pressure created. He also used the wrong type of caulk to seal the edges of the floating slab. When confronted with these allegations, he has no clue how the fans would/should work and said 3 cubic feet/minute should get my level down. He claimed since I never retested, I had no proof it didn't work. Before using him, go to the states website and read the standards these professionals need to adhere to...joe skipped SEVERAL of the standards. What's worse, he didn't see the error in his ways. I knew I wouldn't get a refund from him, I just wanted him to know how bad a job he did. I reported him to the state as well. I suggest you choose other mitigators in the area.

Joe came out to give an estimate but initially recommend that I purchase an accurate electronic radon detector instead of the home test kits from Home Depot. With the electronic meter, I was getting 14 instead of 4 as my radon count so I definitely needed to get the issue addressed. Within about 4 hours, Joe had the entire system set up. After about 3 weeks, the readings have dropped below 2 and continue to drop.
Joe knows radon. He put in a system on short notice in my two story colonial with full basement. I shopped around to two other Radon contractors and his was either the lowest or close to it, but he was also the first that I could schedule. FYI: He said the overall cost was less because there was an existing sump pit. We scheduled for the morning and I gave him access to the house. By the time I got to the house at 11am he was done and gone with only the odor of fresh caulking, PVC pipes, and the muffled whirl of a fan. The installation was professional with an acrylic custom cover cut to fit over the sump pit to keep debris out. Plenty of signage and meters on the installed equipment indicating fan circuit, basically informing me and any future owner, "Do not shut this Off". The radon reading in the basement was 25.4. Joe was confident that once the system was in, it was going to be less than 1 (less than 4 is safe per EPA rules). we tested three days later, and the official reading was 0.9. Looking at the quality of work, I'd use him for any other venting related needs in this or future house.
He has an "F" grade from someone who complained about something not working after three months and he was going to charge a labor fee. This is just my 2 cents, but don't think that was fair, as he does give you a 7 year warranty. He warrants equipment for 7 years and will replace out equipment but there is a labor charge. This is clearly spelled out in his contract.
Joe from Keystone Radon Mitigators quickly responded to my initial inquiry and stopped by the same day to scope out the work. His proposal came two days later and he was awarded the contract a couple of days later after two other proposals were reviewed by me (the seller) and the buyers and a mutual decision was made. Keystone provided the best price but what set them apart was the warranty. The settlement date was drawing near and Joe expedited the installation of the system to everyone's satisfaction.
Joe installed the system by drilling into the basement slab, installing some PVC pipe into it and routing it outdoors through an inline exhaust fan and running a discharge pipe/stack above the roof line. Joe did the electrical work for the fan and sealed up the floor and the wall.
After the installation, Joe described how the system worked and explained the use of the gauge/manometer that measured the exhaust pressure. He left a radon test kit that was mailed into the laboratory the following week and the radon levels in the house were drastically reduced and well below any action levels.
Joe is an honest guy and a straight shooter and somebody that stands behind his work. I whole-heartedly would recommend Joe and Keystone Radon Mitigators to anyone that needs such a service. In fact, when my brother sold his house a little while later I recommended Joe to him and my brother was also very happy with the job.
Joe, installed 2 motors for our neighbors.
He installed our fan August the 2, 2014 (three months ago) and took less than one hour as the pipe was in place and the outlet was already installed. Appeared to be a professional. This Fall when we turned off our air conditioning we noticed the sound of the motor was transferring through the ceiling. After a couple of weeks I called Joe who said it could be water in the pipe at our house and we needed to install a semi-round top to the pipe. I called the week October 27th and told him the motor was so loud it was keeping me awake at night. He said he would call my partner and schedule to look at the installation the next week.
He called and left a message for us on Monday, November 3rd that stated it would cost $100-$150 for him to come out and adjust the pipe. Please note this is for a fan he installed three months ago in an attic with good access. Not once did he discuss with me charging an additional fee when I spoke with him last week.
I called him November 4th to discuss and left a voice mail. He has not returned my call.
He installed this system three months ago and now wants another $100-$150 to adjust the pipe? I would not use this man ever again. I have also notified our neighbors, 2 of whom were going to use him but have sought another contractor.
If you do use him I would recommend you ask him what his warranty covers, get it in writing and expect poor service should anything go wrong.
It has been a long time since I have been so disappointed in a contractor. This man does not honor his work. Of our 2 neighbors, one system is quiet one is extremely loud.
A few of my neighbors had experienced radon problems in their homes and had Joe from Keystone install radon fans in existing piping to help alleviate the problem. Despite what I thought was an inflated cost, I decided to have Joe do the same at our house simply out of convenience. He performed the exact same work at my house as 3 other houses yet he tried to charge me $250 more than the other homes. There was no basis for the higher cost - I beieve he thought I was just a rich dumb housewife who did not know any better. I complained and he quickly backed tracked to the lower price he quoted my neigbors but I would never trust him again. Furthermore, I asked to see the packaging of the fan he installed but he claimed he did not have it with him. I am not convinced he installed a new fan and it has been operating very loudly ever since he installed it. Another neighbor has the same problem and when he called Joe to have a look at it, Joe wanted to charge another $150 service call despite the fan and work supposedly being covered under warrantly. Would not use this guy again.
Joe came out about 6 months ago and told us to install a long term monitor to check the radon levels over time which we did. Since the readings averaged higher than recommended, he came and put in our system paying attention to what we wanted and was able to place the system where it would take up the least amount of space. He worked diligently and was very neat and careful. He did an excellent job and our radon numbers are really low now, thanks to his expertise.
Keystone was very responsive when I was first interviewing radon mitigation companies. We were undergoing other house renovation which became costly, so this radon mitigation project got postponed a couple months.
Joe was ready when we were and patient with having to implement project in separate phases. He also made certain that the exterior PVC pipe (which we could not get around) matched our house color using paint I provided to help system not be as noticeable.
Pre-mitigation levels were over 20, which is bad, Follow-up lab tests all returned as < 0.3.
I wholeheartedly recommend this company if you need radon mitigation.
Joe arrived on time, and courteously offered to take off his shoes upon entering my home. We had discussed the work that needed to be done over the phone before hand. Upon opening the sump pump cover he notified me that the sump pump float was stuck and had not been installed properly---he charged me a small fee to correct the issue which I appreciated, as I had suspected the work had not be done properly by the original installer. After the work was completed Joe swept up the floor and removed all the old materials.
I asked Joe a hundred questions as I like to know every detail about what is being done to my home, and he answered each one with a smile. The work was done quickly and efficiently and I believe was priced fairly.
I would certainly recommend Keystone Radon and would use them again in the future.
