electric car charger installation and electrical work

Here's what was promised:
1. Install two 240W plugs that are capable of working simultaneously i.e. charging two cars at the same time
2. Install the electric car charger
Installing the car charger and a single plug went well. However Konstantine over promised what was actually possible. Our house isn't rated for the required amount of amps needed by two 240v plugs running with all the electricity a normal household consumes at the same time. To get that, it would require thousands of dollars of work. This is something that Konstantine wasn't aware of at the time for his estimate. More on this in the overall summary.
IP camera installation
In terms of positioning the IP cameras and mounting them, they were pretty good. That's pretty much where it ends. In terms of issues, here's a list: 1. For some odd reason they didn't bother taking 2 minutes to install the IP cameras' water proofing parts that help keep rain out of the internals. 2. They used the cheapest, crappiest ethernet cables without asking my opinion. 3. To compensate for the horrible ethernet cable quality and I suspect to raise the price, they then used some metal outdoor cord covers to hide them.
ethernet network cabling work
Finally let's talk about the ethernet network cabling work. Here's what was promised:
1. Network ethernet cables should have wiring for two floors, from the master to the living room.
2. All of the ethernet cables will eventually go into the master bedroom.
3. Ethernet cabling will extend to the office on the other side of the house.
Here are the issues:
1. Konstantine was now telling me that it was impossible to keep most of the ethernet wires indoors. They have to drill more holes outside and use more ugly wire covers.
2. He tried to tell me that they already did some of the work, by trying to convince me that my kid's room was my 'office'. This isn't very good integrity wise which should have been a huge warning sign to me.
3. None of the work was started. They just left. (This is their 3rd job with me, so I trusted them when they asked for the check early with only two thirds of the job finished.)
fixing the backyard light
A new light fixture was installed without any changes to the wiring despite my complaint that it didn't work. Well it still doesn't work and Konstantine was able to confirm it. I'm not sure why he didn't test it before... or maybe he did but he just didn't care?
summary
To understand the problems with K&I Electric, you have to look at the people behind it. While Konstatine seems somewhat familiar with electrical work, he doesn't seem to be at the skill level of a real electrician. Igor is actually the one who does the work while Konstantine deals mainly with sales as well as estimates, which leads us to another issue. Since Konstantine doesn't really know much about electrical work, he tends to over promise things that aren't really possible and he makes major mistakes in price and time estimations. Why does this matter? One reason most service professionals add a lot of padding to their price (besides a nice profit margin) is to buffer for unexpected problems and issues such as bad estimations (i.e. the price was too low), so even if several jobs went over in terms of time and effort; it won't ruin a business. K&I Electrical doesn't have this buffer. Therefore when they make a mistake, it's disastrous; and they won't fix it. They'll just cut and run. This is when you call them, they will never pick up the phone. You will always get an answering machine. Why? They are trying to screen out the many many irate customers like me who feel cheated.
This house is tenant occupied so I am relying on the tenant's report but the tenant is satisfied with the outcome. Apparently the wiring was disconnected to the two spotlights and the wiring to the switch by the bed is really screwed up. So, they did the best job they could without opening up sheetrock which would have been another contractor and more delays and inconveniences to my tenants. When K&I originally came for the bid, they even repaired a small electrical problem for no charge. They were very easy to work with and very patient with tenant scheduling problems. I would use them again.
It went great! I am extremely pleased with their work. They were great to work with. They handled my questions and changes without any problems. They met all of their deadlines. All of their work passed Redwood City inspections.. I would hire K&I again without hesitation.
Konstantin was very prompt and professional. showed up on time as scheduled. He asked me where I wanted to install the interior lights, switches and had them installed within 1 morning. They cleaned up after they completed their work. I was pleased with all of the interior work. With the exterior work he had some junior helpers. They did ok but for the wiring for the landscape lights, they did not bury the low voltage lines as I had requested. They just tucked the lines under some shrubs...which would be a problem when the landscaping service comes to trim shrubs, etc. Interior work was done excellently. Exterior work was done ok.
He was able to install the cable lighting system, but had to cut holes in my walls (with my permission) to get the wiring to the ceiling. The system is working perfectly and I have finally repaired the holes myself, though it took a while.
I'm very pleased with the work K&I Electrical INC performed in my house. Everything was done accorging to estimation and agreement. Price wise - K&I Electrical INC was very reasonable, their price was better than 3 more estimation I have done. I would definately contact them again for any electrial work I will need in the future.

They did the bare minimum and did not go above and beyond when they came out to do the work. They also charged me for a part even though I had a Big Deal with them. I would not use them again.

. K&I was fast and responsive to my request for service. His bid was less than others and he claimed it would take much less time than other electricians had estimated. I was initially concerned, but decided to give it a try since his reviews were good. He was right, he arrived with an assistant and completed the work in exactly the time he said it would take. While there he was courteous, kept the work space clean, explained the work and was responsive to my questions. When I asked him to take a look at some older electrical work another electrician had completed, he did so at no extra charge. His work passed the electrical inspection, and he returned promptly to complete the job with switches, light fixture. Very happy with the work, will use again in the future. Thanks Konstantin!
The employee from K&I Electrical was quick, had good ideas, and the pricing was reasonable. He could have taken the old chandelier and boxing with him but he did not.

It took them many visits, and crawling under the house to locate the problem and correct it. All this was just before Thanksgiving, and they were prompt and professional returning time and again to make sure the new connections finally worked. No fun under a house in the winter. They found the broken connection, repaired it, and put in a replacement sump pump .
On time, kept me posted as to their arrival via cell phone. This was a very small project and they were willing to make time to do a small project which sometimes not all contractors will do.
For our renovation project my husband found K&I Electrical through the Angie?s List. We had dealt with three other companies in recent years, and never were completely satisfied with the result, although their services were quite expensive. Attaching a couple of sconces might cost more than a thousand dollars because they charge ~ $ 90 per hour, plus materials, plus wall repairs?.
Konstantin replied and arrived to evaluate our project very quickly. K&I solved most of our electrical problems (including some that previous electricians couldn?t repair), although the condominium where we live was constructed decades ago, and has lots of restrictions, both technical, and regulatory. Konstantin and his team were very responsive to our needs, they had quick brainstorming discussions in order to find a better solution; they explained to us what they were doing, and what we should expect. They worked fast, smart, and neatly. And no less important, they charged us significantly less than others. According to others? estimate we would pay for the project more than $7000, and we paid ~ $3000 to K&I in all. The only disappointment was the wireless switch in the bathroom that was installed (a replacement for killed electrical line, damaged by someone else). It was a convenient solution except that the switch is very moody: sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. But this is only dissatisfaction with the wireless switch, not with their work. There was one other amusing temporary difficulty, where turning off a desk light would also turn off our refrigerator, but they fixed this as soon as we reported it. K&I also recommended to us two other groups of contractors: flooring, Gene Spektor, who did a great job too, and a general contractor who was very helpful.
We certainly recommend the K&I team.
We were very satisfied and would certainly consider K& I should we have future electrical work done.
Almost immediately after purchasing the "Big Deal" we were contacted by one of the owners to arrange an appointment. Because we were not available on the date he suggested, we left him a message telling him that we would call him later in the summer. When we did so about 7 weeks later, our phone call was immediately returned by Igor and we arranged a mutually-convenient date for their service call at week or so later. A few days before the scheduled call, Igor called to confirm his visit and to find out the nature of the work we were seeking. Igor gave us a two-hour time frame for his arrival and he arrived promptly as scheduled. He was very courteous and efficient, replacing the five ballasts as requested and troubleshooting the defective lights in a ceiling fan. He advised me of our options concerning the defective ceiling fan lights and told me what it would cost us to have him do the work, a repair which he advised against under the circumstances since I could either do it myself or just leave the seldom-used lights as they are. The only additional cost I incurred was for the 5 ballasts which certainly cost me less than had I gotten them myself.
When he came to look at the job, he gave me a quote for all of the work. I told him about my Angie's List deal price of $100 for 4 hours of work, which would offset about a third of the cost. The actual project went much faster than he had estimated, and I also had him do 2 fewer fixtures becasue they werent ready. At the end, he wanted to charge me not only for the full estimate price minus the Angie's list deal amount but also for the difference between what I paid for the Angie's list deal and the full price. Bye bye deal.
However, after some discussion, he relented. But then after he left, I got a bill for even more.
I felt like this provider was using the Angie's List deal in an inappropriate and unfair way.

This was an Angie's list coupon I purchased in June. 2 hours of electrical service for $99. I was unable to schedule the appointment until August because of my own time constraints. Left a message for K&I in late July that was never responded to. Called again a couple of days ago and they did respond and scheduled me promptly. We have a non-functioning fountain that was installed in our backyard about 5 years ago. Igor came early for a 10:00 AM appointment, replaced an electrical component, and told me the fountain now worked. We filled the fountain with water and turned it on. It didn't work. He told me it was a pump that burned out and needed to be replaced. He didn't do that sort of work. He charged me $15 for the electrical component and left after about an hour.
