Professional, knowledgeable. Chase answered all of my questions..
Chase and two employees came here on time, and completed the work within 3 days, which was ahead of schedule. They had to clean old mortar off bricks and re-lay them to match our existing 75-year old home. It looks great!
We were very pleased with their professionalism and love the final result. We will definitely call Chase in the future for tuck pointing or other brick repairs.

They were quite professional. Once rain stopped in Indianapolis, they were able to get right in and do the work. It was ready when they said it would be!

I was told on a Thursday what needed to be done to finish the job, which I agreed to. I left a check for them Friday morning when I went to work and came home expecting the job to be done. When I came home, the work was not completed and I noticed that there were damages to a decorative brick wall along the drive where they were working.

I've called several times to have them come back out to complete the work, have been promised numerous dates, but have yet to see them back out. They do not call if there's a delay in the schedule or leave a note or communicate in any way if they are not going to be able to come. They've also denied any damages to the brick wall.

The days they've said they'll be out have come and gone and the job is still not completed. They did a good job on the work that they started, but I keep getting promised to have the job completed. I've given them plenty of time to come back and I just keep getting the run around after they were paid.

They were professional and extreamly responsive. We were selling our home and we needed to get the tuck pointing done before we closed in 4 days. They were able to give me an estimate the same day I called and b/c my job only took one day they were able to fit me in the schedule and had the work completed with days to spare!

King Masonry did a terrific job. It was in the dead of winter so they tented the whole area from the second floor down to the work area. They worked late hours to complete it in a timely manner. The end of the project came sooner than expected, and the porch work has held up well.

It took me several years to find someone with good reviews who could do the concrete work AND the brick work.

When we needed to replace our cracked porch, we contacted King Masonry based on the recommendation of our neighbor and the corresponding excellent reviews on Angie?s List. Despite a lack of professionalism displayed by forgetting our initial appointments and various delays in getting a quote, we felt that Chase?s highly regarded work would eventually make the hassles worthwhile. We very much liked the dark brown color of our stained porch, and Chase felt that a stamped concrete with integral color would be the best choice, since any cracks would not show up white like they were on our current porch. Although the price was significantly higher than we originally planned, we again decided that his reputation warranted it.

Once the work began, we saw immediate problems. During the porch removal, a number of shrubs that Chase had told us would be tied back, were torn out to prop up the porch roof. Following demolition, there were a number of days where nothing appeared to get done, but we had no communication from the company unless we initiated contact. Finally, when the porch and walkway were poured, they were orange-pink instead of dark brown. First Chase tried to convince us that stains often look different than you see on a color swatch, but when he finally came out to inspect the work, he realized they had used the wrong integral color. Chase seemed sincere in his desire to make things right and offered to tear out the porch and start again.

On his second removal and pour, I was out of town, but when I returned they were tearing it out the following day. Apparently the concrete arrived too late in the day and Chase wasn?t happy with the stamping, which they?d done after dark. After they tore this out (not upon our request), they poured it a third time. The color was still lighter than we expected, but we were not going to argue despite splattered stain on our home and doorframe, because they were finally done. At least this is what we thought until they put our columns back up and they hung off the ends of the porch because they had poured it the wrong size. While Chase offered to tear it out and try again, I felt three failures were more than enough and we would find someone else to do the job right.

Chase understood and agreed to repay our deposit ($2,556). That was in November and as of March, we still have yet to receive any payment. This is despite numerous assurances that a check would be in the mail, or that they?d have enough to cover it at the end of the month. I realize that they had sunk a significant amount into our porch, but the mistakes were strictly due to their own incompetence. I tried to be understanding, and offered to let them repay us in installments, but after receiving no sign of repayments or the return of any of our recent calls, we have turned to Angie?s List in the hopes of resolving this complaint.

I truly feel that Chase wanted to deliver a good product, and he was sorry that things went as poorly as they did, but he clearly cannot be trusted to make good on his promises. The many positive reviews for King Masonry indicates our experience was in the minority, and maybe Chase just took on a project that was beyond the skills of his employees, but he was the one who suggested the project. Between the mistakes, mismanagement, and refusal to return our deposit, I would strongly advise against hiring King Masonry.

As we discovered very recently of a leak that had gone all the way in the house, we went out and got several bids, with theirs being clearly more competitive. (of our other bids, one of them was almost twice his bid, and they were not from anywhere near Indy.) It was a plus that they were located nearby. It was near Christmas time on top of that, but they went right ahead and started a couple days after. It was quite cold the first day putting scaffolding up, and they had to work around a big tree and an air conditioning unit. (They took part of the tree down for us, and made an offer to even take down another much larger dead tree in front yard.) When it was really extremely cold, they stopped, but other than that they got the job done in a timely manner. The gentlemen were very courteous, were careful with their gear and trucks. The owner Chase was a wonderful fellow to talk to.

We needed it done fairly quickly, the bid was very competitive, and we were very grateful for their availability, their timeliness, and their good attitudes. We we very lucky to have them do our chimney. I would highly recommend them.

Done at 4441 N. Washington Blvd.

It was a horrible experience. I saw their signs all over town and saw them on Angie’s List. I allowed them to put their sign in my yard. I sent him pictures and we went back and forth with emails. He assured me he would do the work. The price was high but I was okay with that if he did the job. He messed up the job. I had to have it redone. He charged me to have a mason come out to put in extra stone work. I ended up with an end cap that doesn’t look good. The labors covered up the job they said they’d do and didn’t do. They didn’t do it the way it was told or priced. I watched them the whole way and told them throughout that I was unhappy with the work. When they were done I told them I wasn’t happy and they said they would knock of $300.00. I said I’d pay but I wasn’t happy with the work. I would never use this company.

Process went poorly from beginning. Multiple complaints were brought to Chase King's attention in the middle of the job. Complaints were initially voiced via phone to Chase King personally on 2 separate occasions. Chase King initially stated he was there and that he made the decisions to not follow job to contract (without discussion with owner and without amendment to contract as required), and repeatedly tried to make statements of quality and process. No effort was made in part by Chase King to evaluate complaints or correct any problems. Feeling my complaints were not being taken seriously, formal written complaints stating breach of contract were e-mailed and mailed to Chase King stating that if contract was not followed legal actions would be required. With receipt of letter, Chase King finally made attempts to correct grievances. In future conversations, Chase King confessed he was not on site when major decisions were made about tear down and reconstruction, implying he was make reassurances of quality and process without having seen product himself.

Major complaints were as follows.
1) Chimneys were not torn down to roofline leaving spalled bricks (initial reason for rebuild of chimneys) above roofline and visibly showing 2 types of brick (old and new)
2) Overnight top of chimneys were covered but no attempt was made to cover where flashing was removed. During this period, there was significant raining. Without the junction of chimney and roofline covered, it must be assumed water went into the house.

Corrective measures made
1) Warranty was extended to 10 years
2) Chimneys were not torn down again to roofline but remaining old bricks were to be tuck-pointed out
3) Tarp was extended past junction of chimney and roofline on future dates until flashing had been applied.

Remaining problems
1) Even after corrective measures were made, not all old bricks had been tuck-pointed out as agreed upon.

Further corrective measures made
1) $200 discount

Review written at this date since owner was waiting for sealing of chimney, as required by contract, to occur.

They were very professional. They did a great job of keeping me informed all the way through the project and clean-up. They did a great job. I would highly recommend them. Their employees did good work. I wasn't home when the work was done.

Back half of brick retaining wall was leaning and needed to be replaced. I requested an estimate to remove and replace the back two-thirds of the wall. The front part was in good condition. The estimate was reasonable and I authorized the work. When the workmen came to remove the wall, they started in the front and removed the entire wall. I called Chase King and asked what he would do. He said it was their mistake and they would replace the entire wall at no additional cost. The work went smoothly. The wall looks great and I am very happy with the wall. I was so pleased with their work, I also had them replace my asphalt driveway with a concrete driveway. I am also very pleased with that work.

It was very easy to set up the estimate, and I received the written estimate very quickly. The price was a little higher than another company I received an estimate from, but was fairly equal when applying the 10% coupon from Angie's List. I was given a start date, and they called the day before that date to tell me they were able to start a day early. The process of selecting a brick that best matched the house resulted in a lot of miscommunication on my part and Chase's part. I think overall this stemmed from Chase assuming I knew things about the process of rebuilding a chimney that I did not. In the end, we worked out the miscommunications and I now have a beautiful new chimney and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into building it.

We may be the worst customers in the history of customers. My husband negotiated with Chase King, the owner, to a crazy degree. This was after we talked with our neighbor who'd hired King to repair his brick wall, replace his asphalt drive with concrete and repair his garage floor. The crew had a major mix up, which damaged some of my flowers on my side of the wall, but went out of their way to fix the mix up and then brought in topsoil to make up for my flower damage. (Totally unnecessary but happily accepted.) They did fabulous work on our project, but I inadvertently said something to the crew, which resulted in them putting in some artsy work to the drive. While I didn't remember asking for it, I liked it. My husband, the negotiator, hated it. He and Chase (who also didn't like the "art") talked a long, long time and Chase eventually ripped out the portion that had the extra flair to it and re-did the work. I would be really annoyed with us, but Chase was professional throughout. He'd tossed in the new walkway for free. I suspect he didn't want his beautiful driveway diminished in any way and wanted the whole look to be good. So we ended up with a beautiful drive, walkway and back porch. And our garage floor is even. We've been in the house 12 years, and the garage floor had been cracked the whole time, and the drive had issues, too. It's really nice to drive home to see the new drive. It's really made a difference in our home's curb appeal. All of our neighbors have commented on it. I'm going to give Chase a couple of years to forget how awful we are as customers before I ask him to put a patio in the back yard....
Response from King Masonry
"You guys were great to work for. Thank you for honoring us with your business, and I'll be more than happy to do your patio in the future!"

UPDATE: Chase called me on 9/13/10 to ask to come out to the house to make things right. He and his crew came on the morning of 9/14 and thoroughly investigated the issue and found the problem was likely coming from above and not below. They fixed some mortar that was crumbling/missing and pointed out some possible problems with the roof and flashing on my garage. They were very apologetic for not being more responsive before and did not charge me for today's visit. I am impressed that Chase got back with me after all this time to make things right. It would have been very easy for him to just let it go. I am satisfied that the work they did originally was done properly and any further issues are likely with my roof/flashing. ************************************************************************************************************** I contacted Chase to come out and take a look at our situation. He came out relatively quickly to look at our problem and quote us a price. Since it was a small job he said he would charge us an hourly rate to fix it. This was fine and I told him to schedule the work. It took a couple of weeks for someone to come out, but the man who came was pleasant and seemed to know what he was doing. I told him to dig down further than the visible leak to ensure that nothing was missed. He assured me he saw the extent of the leak and proceeded to fix it. Unfortunately, with the next rain we had, we still had leaking into our garage. At this point I wasn't 100% certain it was from the same spot so I investigated over the next couple of rains and while we were definitely getting less water into the garage from that spot, water was clearly coming in from the same location, and only that location. I emailed Chase to tell him that the problem was not solved. He wrote back quickly and said they would come back out and take care of it. This was a month ago. In the course of the past month I have emailed and talked to Chase personally. Each time he told me that a work order was open and they would take care of it. I have now given up on this company that they will do the right thing and do not want them back. While I realize this was a small job for them, a good company will treat small jobs with as much care as they treat the larger ones. Had they done a good job I would not have hesitated to use them in the future and I would have referred them to friends. As it stands I have paid them $85 for essentially nothing. I emailed Chase last week to tell him to close whatever work order he claimed to have opened and made it clear I was dissatisfied with the service I received. He did not respond.

They tuck pointed the house a year or two ago. We spent $3500 on the side walk. The owner was here and over saw his men and was in and out constantly at no regular time. They worked extremely hard and long hours to get the job done because of potential bad weather. They did not want that interfering with the quality of the workmanship and just did a fabulous job and were very conscientious. The owner was Chase King and he was here and we were extremely pleased with him. We would definitely have him back again if we need any concrete, brick or cement work to be done and would be the first person we would call. There isn?t anything that they did that we would want them to do better.
Response from King Masonry
"Thank you very much for coming to Angie's List to comment. You and your husband have been a pleasure to work with over the years. We have had so many compliments on the brick walk-way, that we designed for you, from other folks. It is truly architecturally appealing to your home. Thanks so much- Chase King"

It was an excellent experience. We needed a lot of "hand holding" through this project due to our lace of experience with masonry work around driveways. King Masonry was very helpful in every aspect of the project. The workers were great in removing the railroad ties, laying the cement, and building the wall. They were sensitive to our plants around the area, our neighbors yards, and how much they blocked the street. The communication from Mr. King was excellent. He kept us up to date on every step along the way. In addition, the mason did an amazing job on our new wall! The only reason I couldn't give them an "A" on professionalism, is that my final payment check was lost. I had to stop payment on it, which cost me money, and write a new check. Other than that small issue, it was a fantastic experience.
Response from King Masonry
"Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to give us a rating. I could not believe you contacted several contractors, with no response. Your were a pleasure to meet. I enjoyed your creativity, thorough planning, and was honored to meet you. My men think that you are a fabulous baker, and they've asked me "when can we work here again.""

Overall, I was satisfied. I wish I didn't have all that soot down in my sofas and chairs, but I do appreciate their efforts to fix it after the fact without a fuss - it was even their suggestion. Best of all, we can use our fireplace! No complaints about the quality of the work.
Response from King Masonry
"Thank your very much for your posting! We are chimney and restoration specialists, so we obviously rebuild a lot of old chimneys to original architectural design. (1,693 to date) Any chimney that power tools are used on; we close off the firebox, as to not get dust in the home. This is done on the fireplace itself using: tape, plastic, and canvas. We were only removing the brick, and cleaning them for re-installation. I did not expect dust/suit in the home; without using power tools. However, this did occur. Since this job, we have repaired/rebuilt approx. 140 chimneys. We have closed every one of them off using protective materials, no matter the scope of work. Since every employee went through training, after this job, we will never perform work on a chimney without doing such. Thank God the home-owner had hard-wood floors. When I observed what occurred from the chimney, with no hesitation, I suggested I hire a professional (corporate) cleaning company. I demanded they clean until customer satisfaction was achieved, from the home-owner. It was. As far as timing, we had a basic scope of work, then the utility chimney was added along with the change in the fireplace liner. There were a few days/weeks, the home-owner was unavailable, as certain work needed to be performed inside the home. The project went a bit longer than we would have liked, but given the project, we did the best that we could with accommodating the owners schedule.. We ran into a situation where the clay liner sizes changed with-in the chimney, going from larger to smaller. This was not to code or standard to what is needed for proper ventilation. The home-owners have never had a fire in there, but if they had, smoke would have come into the home. This was the first time I ran into this situation, in all the many chimneys I have done. Given this was a first time situation, I quoted a price to open the back of the chimney and make necessary repairs based on what I believed the labor would cost. The customer agreed. It ended up being less than half as much quoted. Thank You Very MUCH For Your Work! Chase King I"

They came out within a day of my calling to give me a quote. They were very friendly and also cleaned up themselves. Their price was really good too. There were a couple of others that had come out to give quotes, but I didn?t go with them as King Masonry provided better customer service.

They called to schedule a start date and asked if they could start earlier if they got ahead of schedule. They actually did start several days ahead of time, finished in just a few days, cleaned up well after they finished, and then called back the next day to be sure that we were satisfied. They matched the mortar perfectly and did a great job.

Gave a detailed estimate and ranked priorities for us. For example we have a brick planter that could be repaired and rebuilt but they also told us it was in no danger of falling down so we could postpone that work.

Overall, the project went well. Chase was prompt in giving me an estimate and prompt in replying to my questions/concerns. The work was well done; the workers seemed very attentive and Chase did oversee their work. We made a quick decision on the paint color. That was a mistake, as it did not look right. They did change it but I had to pay extra. I would suggest to everyone that the painter should paint big swabs before final decision is made. You cannot tell anything from those paint sample cards. There was a one-month delay in getting the final payment corrected. Overall, the work seems well done.
