When giving me a quote, I told Ron that I had rec'd a quote for $35,000 just to remove the walls. I believe that person just didn't want the job for wahtever reason -- but Ron came along and when I said "I had a dream for my kitchen that included removing the walls, etc.," and he said he could make my dream come true. Where once there was no space, we have made a comfortable way to seat 14 people. Where we once had a kid's table, we have an adults bar area.... except, lo and behold, the kids all way to sit at the bar. In addition to the bare bones description, Ron, Amy, and Candy were amazing to work w/. To be able to do the job for that much less, Ron figured out ways I could do some of the work myself and make it happen. His advice for how to change my kitchen around were all spot on, from the suggested new sink stopper -- the fact that, w/ only a small bit of cupboard space for pots and pans near my stove (the others being stored in the island), I had to decide which pans were my "favorites." Following his advice, I was able to make it all work. What used to be a 4 foot square space between stove and the arch to the dining room area is now wide open. Before the change, family used to come in, skip through the kitchen to the family/TV room - or if anyone was to keep my company while I cooked, they'd need to sit on the counters - taking away necessary prep space. From the first day of completion, forward, my family of 13 have asked to have all celebrations at my home. The flow, the warmth, the whole ambiance of my home has hanged. Gleefully, if too much time passes, family sometimes forgets I've had it remodeled and are surprised anew when they walk in. What's most amazing is that talking to one another in that family room was often interrupted by TV shows, etc. Now, most people walk in and seat themselves at the island. Family is more engaged, dining is much easier -- I can set up a buffet line on one half of the island and still allow the five to eat from the other side. I would heartily recommend Kitchen Design Center to anyone w/ a dream of a kitchen that they think just can't be done. You may have to pitch in some elbow grease buy Ron, Amy, and Candy can help you with suggestions and their experience.

Demolition went well with all removed in both areas in one day. Walls & floors were protected. New vanity sink & faucet were installed on one day. Installation of cabinets, decorative glass in 2 cabinet doors, quartz counter top and the work were installed in a few days and looked great! And we used them previously too!

The sub-contractors were good, they did their job. The owner came out, took measurements and designed the footprint of the kitchen. In that footprint is an island. According to his calculations the island was way too big. We ended up having to cut 7" off of the counter top in order for it to fit the room. He wanted us to have to pay for the counter top to be cut although it was in his design. The wooden doors did not fit right, so we had to go back and forth with the door company. They were taken back to the door company and they trimmed them. To this day the doors are still not right. I would not use Kitchen Design Center Ltd again if it is the owner that takes the measurements.
Response from Kitchen Design Center Ltd
"As always, we are very disappointed when a customer is not completely satisfied with our work. The customer is correct regarding the measurements being off. The refrigerator depth was not taken into consideration for the aisle width. However, we did move the island to their liking and even offered to make it smaller to accommodate the aisle. They declined a smaller island because they wanted the island to fit 2 [Member Information Removed]. They agreed with the current placement. The door has been a tricky one due to the concrete stem wall. We have made several adjustments and at this writing, we will be making another. We will make sure the customer is satisfied."

Kitchen Design center did a great job! They were very helpful in identifying ways to make the project more doable and cheaper. They even advised that I independantly hire someone to install the duct work for a cooktop downdraft before starting the project, thus saving me a couple hundred dollars.
Staff were very communicative during the whole process. Lots of phone calls to verify that materials were in route, subcontractors were onsite, etcetera. Tile guy did an outstanding job. Only negative was getting the plumber to install an iceline cost a phenomenal $170 for something that took 30 minutes and, which he could've done while finishing the plumbing. Should've done it myself. Completion of the job was delayed by only one day. Whole job took 4 days.
Overall, they were outstanding.
Bid done in ten minutes. I told gentleman we had floor damage seen under the house. His original bid of$8000 increased when voila there was floor damage. His response was that he never goes under the house. Of course we were stuck once there was a big hole in our floor. If he would have spent a little extra time and really looked at the job and made an accurate bid, we would be writing a more positive review. The job took many more days despite the set back was only to take one extra day. Overall, a nice job but a frustrating experience.
Response from Kitchen Design Center Ltd
"We appreciated the opportunity to remodel Rebecca’s bathroom and install new flooring in her utility room. The scope of this job included tearing out old fixtures, flooring and the visible wall rot. We provided sheetrock work, plumbing fixtures and labor, new wall and medicine cabinets with installation, tile flooring for bathroom and utility room, cultured marble counter top with bowl all of which was included in the original contract price. Our 10 page Contracts and 4 to 5 page Project List, were provided to this customer at contract signing. Both documents are very detailed with what is included in the contract price and what is not included. Section 7 “Premises” of this contract states in the first paragraph: “the contract price does not include a contingency for unobserved conditions in the property or the structure, that, if encountered will lead to additional construction time or costs”. This section was acknowledged, by customer initials at bottom of page. Typically for Kitchen Design Center, entering a crawl space, going under a home is not part of the bathroom remodel bidding process, and even then, you cannot see the total scope of the damage until the area is opened up. We are not in business to gouge customers because we have extra work to be done on the job. We charge the same rates for everyone. A bidding process takes time, more than 15 minutes. An appointment is made, the jobsite is visited, measured and customer wants taken into consideration. Then several hours are spent compiling the bid, which consists of a detailed contract and a detailed project list. An appointment is made for the customer to come into the shop and documents are reviewed in detail. We encourage our customers to review the documents before signing, and ask questions. We absolutely strive to end each and every job with a well satisfied customer. When a customer expresses dissatisfaction, we pay attention, learn and make changes to improve what services and products we provide."

Ordered 3 hole sink, showed up with 4 hole sink and then kept changing story about why wrong sink was delivered (3 hole cost more, 3 hole special order not available, etc). After several phone calls they admitted that correct sink was available next day but plumber could not install for 5 more days. Had to make decision to keep sink I did not like because had already gone 3 days without kitchen use. Trim on cabinet is not level (I measured trim and used level) and has a curve. Looks dumb. They did not order enough tile so had to wait for tile and deal with tile guy coming back to finish job. Fortunately tile guy (Cascade Tile) was hard working and a good communicator. When new deck for counter tops was installed, they forgot that JennAir range need cut out in back. After trying to shove stove back in, they finally realized their error and had to come back another day and cut out a section of the new deck. They should have measured correctly in the beginning. Put new counter top on section that was sloping and not attached to wall. They had to have noticed this but they did not say anything to me. The tile guy brought it to my attention. He had to shove something under cabinet to stabilize so he could place tile. Owner of business relied on the customer too much to keep an eye on work crew. Appointments with him got rescheduled several times. I know he's busy but I wanted the job finished so that I could pay them the remaining balance. Overall, Candace and Lynn were very professional, respectful, and communicative and represent the business well. Amy on the other hand needs some training in conflict resolution and basic communication skills.
Response from Kitchen Design Center Ltd
"The following is a response to the issues expressed by the customer. ..We offered to replace the 4 hole sink, but she declined. She would not have been without a sink, because the 4 hole would have stayed installed until we had the 3 hole installed, which she was aware of. We did give her a stainless steel soap dispenser for the 4th hole at no extra charge, even though she could have had the 3 hole she wanted. ..3 days is a minimal amount of time to be without a complete working kitchen when a remodel is taking place. We strive to group our subcontractors together to limit that time. ..We did not order enough tile because the customer changed the tile layout during the install, thus having to order more. We received the tile the next day and promptly installed it. .. The Jenn Air range was measured incorrectly by our subcontractor, and was corrected the next day. .. The countertop was sloping due to inadequate support installation prior to Kitchen Design Center work being done. We were informed of the slope by our tile contractor, and we fixed the issue with brackets, once again, at no extra cost to the customer. .. The trim piece was brought to our attention at the final walk through. We discussed this with the installer. The installer explained the whole kitchen was out of square, which is typical of older kitchens’ and cabinetry. He did his best to apply the trim to the out of square cabinetry. ..Yep, I did hang up on her, which I have never done with another customer. She had previously made an agreement to pay the majority of her balance due, (significant amount) and hold a small amount until 16 handles were installed at the final walk through. This involved a screwdriver. She decided to not pay, without notifying Kitchen Design Center, until the owner did the final walk through because he had "rescheduled several times." In actuality he tried to schedule with her 2 weeks prior, but she had family in town and could not find time to have him do a walk through. He rescheduled twice because of unforeseen personal circumstances, which rarely happens. From the time he rescheduled to the actual appointment was 4 days. We do our best to please our customers, but unfortunately there are those that you cannot."

Great showroom with comprehensive variety of displays, materials, and samples.
Friendly knowledgeable help selecting products.
No pressure. I wouldn't call them salespeople, rather friendly helpers.
Easy to coordinate with, including the portions we wanted to DIY and our choice of tile store.
Ron explained the process in detail, including valuable hints for the DIY portions.
Rescheduling is 'normal' in construction work, but very little occurred on this job. The office used multiple means to contact me to confirm schedule and advise of changes.
Slight downgrade to "quality" score because subcontractors didn't clean the new surfaces to pristine condition, and the plumber only did a 90% job. Ron was appreciative of this feedback, and makes an effort to get sincere reviews of the work. (He also promotes Angie's List and encourages submitting reviews. )
The final product looks very good, and the staff made the whole experience enjoyable, even fun.
[ Price rating = NA because I didn't comparison shop by price, Unless price was unreasonable, I chose KDC for the qualities I value as described above. ]
It gives us tools to improve when needed, and enforces our commitment to customer service. I liked the "friendly helper" title,, , and never really liked "salespeople" so much because it does encompass what we really do! Of course we are happy your like and are enjoying the completed project. We are here if you need us in the future!"

Not well. Many unsatisfactory issues from this experience.

This was 10 years ago. Just recently we discovered the bathroom vent was just left laying in the insulation and not vented out side.

"I am sorry your experience with Kitchen Design Center was not a good one. Unfortunately we destroy files after 7 years, so I cannot look to see what might have gone wrong and offer a better response. I can say that we would have addressed and fixed the venting issue had we known about it. We do strive to work with our customers on issues and I am sorry we were not given that opportunity."

From the design phase through the remodel project itself everything went perfect. All the staff is very so helpful, friendly and caring. The work they did was outstanding and the project was completed per schedule. We were always kept informed on scheduled events. This is the second project we had them do. The first was a major remodel to the first floor of our home. This involved a major kitchen and bathroom remodel along with flooring replacement throughout most of the first floor.

They did a very nice job. Everything looks really good. I like the extra features that they installed on the cabinets such as soft closer of the cabinets. I like the big drawers which makes it easier to get to things.
If I had any complaints it would be that he had some of the work done by other contractors, but it was unclear to me as to who was doing what. It was fine, but was a little awkward as to what I needed to make sure was completed. I really have no complaint, he was a really nice guy.
This was a kitchen remodel which incorporated removing an interior wall, and with the new flooring it encompassed the living room and dining room, as well. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Mr. Bates and his team. He was very willing to work with our budget,
as well as work with our son on the installation a some items. We had a couple of other projects that were going on at the same
time, and he was also very amiable and willing to work with their schedules. It took about 3 months, and would have been a bit shorter
except for one error that needed to be corrected in the placement of a window.
It all worked out wonderfully - We loved Mr. Bates design ideas, he listened to our ideas AND our needs, and he and the office were very accessible. The cabinet installer, the plumber, the electrician, the counter installer - whom he employed - we thought were all excellent.
DON't - assume anything. Have the phone contacts for everyone working on your home so you can contact them if you have any questions or concerns.
DO expect the unexpected when it comes to remodeling. For instance, we found ant & moisture damage in one exterior wall, which
required additional cost on our part to repair.
DO go over the schedule frequently to determine what is happening when at the remodel site.
