Not well. The work started on May 2nd and ended on July 13, 2017. Some of the issues encountered included days to weeks of no work being done, inefficient scheduling of subcontractors, part of the work had to be re-done, and once the job began, poor communication with unanswered calls, text messages and emails, and promises not kept. The contractor's behavior changed significantly--defensive, critical of the homeowners' association, threatening, and he robbed me of my cell phone, which he returned 2 1/2 days later. The cost ended up being significantly higher than the original, pre-job proposal and worst case scenario estimate.

Keith is Super contractor we would unhesitatingly recommend. After getting 4 quotes for our addition we went with KL due to

Keith's obvious indepth building and local knowledge, down to earth, completely honest and detailed, comprehensive quote. KL wasn't cheapest bid but we went with them due to Keith's attributes. Job went fine with KL's crew doing all tasks in very professional, hard working and extra-effort always. KL effectively addressed a few unexpected bogies in job with no problem. KL's team was highly skilled and very experienced. Job timing was fine (expect govt cycle for approving plan, etc). Keith was always upfront honest in all aspects of the work and job. We would use KL again without any reservations.

My house was built in 1973 and the bathrooms were original. After having KL Construction remodel my kitchen and living room last year I knew I'd have them back tor the baths and bedrooms. I got preliminary plans from my interior designer and cabinet maker; then walked Keith through the project to get a solid bid. He was very accommodating of some changes I wanted after the first draft of the contract, and of the delay-of-start due to my cabinet maker's schedule.

Keith pays attention to details and ensures that his staff does quality work -- if not, he has them redo it at his cost. He doesn't ignore things waiting for me to find them. If he needs my input he calls or texts (he's very good at answering texts and calls; a bit slower on emails.) His crew is happy to work for him and you can tell that by the teasing and "thank you's" passed around on the job.

He has some GREAT sub-contractors who have very, very long term relationships with him because of the marvelous work that they do. He also has a WONDERFUL cleaning crew that make the place (and windows) spotless despite the dust left behind from dry wall and wood working. The bathroom tile work is STUNNING and true craftsmanship. All the details (caulking around cabinetry, door adjustments, trim painting, alignments) are paid detailed attention.

Any remodeling project has it's ups and downs ( a bit too much dust; existing structures that require work arounds), but I very much like working with Keith. I find him easy to talk to; calm and straight-forward, and we both appreciate quality workmanship. He's willing to 'walk me through the job or options' and consider alternatives if specific design element won't implement well during the build.

I found him on Angie's list to start with; had him do a few small jobs to see how we got along and how compatible our work styles were. I like the fact that he lives in the local area so if something goes wrong or I need his attention he's willing to drop by that evening or early morning before I leave for work. I've been very, very pleased.

Creating an additional picture window in the living room was a big deal as far as permits go, so the architectural progress was slow. Once actual construction began, including scaffolding to reach the height of the second floor living room, the process was swift and simple and the result was completely satisfactory. This part was done on the original Angie's coupon.
A few months later I asked them back to do the bathrooms. The tile job in the master bath is perfect and gorgeous, completely belies the Home Depot open stock tile I wanted to use for economy. He asserts that he used the best guy in the Bay to do the work, and I certainly believe him.
Work on the secondary bathroom I wanted to keep simple and economical, so the one-piece tub and shower were not replaced, but the newer real stone floor adds a real touch of class, plus floor heater and a souped up overhead heater with exhaust fan and overhead light, as well as the paint color I chose, adds the real warmth which that room certainly needed.
He is really good with making suggestions which keep costs down, and at the same time does not quibble with choices I make on my own (paint color, for instance). We worked well together.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out great. I would give them an "A" right across the board. They did not charge me anything more, and actually they did additional services.

Everything went very well. They were able to schedule me quickly once I called. I had contacted a few other providers about the job. I went with KL because the price was within our range, they could do the job quickly and they are a well rated Angie's List.

I bought an Angie's List coupon for 40 hours' work in early fall of 2012. Keith Lester came to look at what I wanted and we discussed the necessity of providing engineering drawings and calculations. He knew a person who could do such work and put me in touch with that person. The engineer/architect seemed slow to respond; I began consulting him by phone and email in November and his part of the work was not complete till late March. By then the money I had set aside for the project had to be used for taxes, and actual construction could not begin till I was back in financial order to go on, May 2013. At least, the new window and a replacement window could be ordered and received while finances re-shaped themselves. After that the project seemed to go smoothly.
A scaffold was required because stucco had to be removed from eaves to ground so that structural reinforcement could be put in place. A row of roof tiles (concrete slabs) was removed in order to access portions of the roof involved in tie-downs of reinforcement straps. Stucco removal was not nearly as loud a process as I expected, and took place all in one day. An extra layer of plywood was attached to the reinforcement area, and metal straps went on over that. Inspectors from the City were present during these crucial construction steps.
Preparation of the inside of the living room took several days: opening the wall, removing insulation, moving electrical wiring, preparing the studs so that the window size portion could be removed all in one piece and the new window installed in a single day. New insulation was put in under the window, new playwood, new wallboard and finally paint, plus a window sill that serves both new and old windows (side by side).
Outside, new underlay wire was installed, two coats of stucco covered the reinforced areas and surrounds of the windows, all that was repainted, roof tiles taken off (for reinforcement bands) were replaced, and the windows were cleaned by the construction crew before they took the scaffold down.
Meanwhile, all the guys who worked were pleasant and friendly, and they carefully cleaned up the work area every evening before they left. At the end they helped me move the furniture back in place, too. Thanks, guys!
Keith and his crew are very professional and worked on everything including permits. The work is high quality and he listened to all my needs. My only reservation is that the project took much longer than originally anticipated. The cost also was quite a bit higher than originally quoted.
We purchased the special 40 hours of contractor services for $1499.00. Keith and his assistant spent an entire day at our house and finished almost our entire "to do" list. This included re-grouting our kitchen counter/backsplash area and some tiles on our kitchen floor, he also installed three light fixtures and LED retrofit lights in our kitchen, a new bathtub faucet in our bathroom and new shower doors. He will be coming back to install baseboards and a new fireplace mantel shelf for us. He does good work and I will use him again. However, he is really, really busy and sometimes he takes a while to get back to you when you email him!!
It took a long time to get an estimate for the work beyond the initial prepaid 40 hous and it was just an email with a fairly rough estimate. I only have one bathroom , so time for completion was important. He told me it would be 1.5 weeks. Here is a list of things that occured and why I would never recommend this contractor to anyone. The job ended up taking 3 weeks . The toilet was to be reset at end of day when taken out. One night I came home and had no toilet at all. The job cost was much higher, even when accounting for a few extra items we added. The grout between the tub and tile and the floor tile and tub was not sealed properly and was falling out, and after 2 showers it was much darker and wet and already looked old. One edge by the tile has an unclen finish and the work area was not cleaned well at all after the work. Additionally, i never quite knew when the workers would come in the morning or if they were coming at all, valuable when you live in the house while a remodel goes on. I contacted the contractor about the grout and also sheetrock that was left in the yard, and after a couple of email exchanges, I did not hear from him for several days. My experience with him was unpleasant enough that I preferred to have someone else fix and reseal the grout than to deal with him any further.
Had a few minor scheduling and communication issues, but nothing major. Since we were also working with the fireplace vendor it got a little tricky with the scheduling so close to the holidays. Keith was pleasant and easy to work with. Overall Grade would be a B+.

Communication could have been a lot better. Unanswered e-mails. Would forget to send me information and ask questions about it. Thought He had sent them. I felt he could use some help in correspondence he's so busy and forgets things. completing the jobs, finishing up, Had to come back twice, washing machine not hooked up, insulation had to be put back. Would have liked to been more informed of what to expect from the work. Had re piping done which required opening walls , a lot of sheet rock dust. If I would have known I would have covered everything, Having an asthmatic cat I had to take her to the emergency vet at a cost of $700. I did not tell them because I did not know what the work included. He assumes you know these things. Suggested he print out what to expect from this kind of work. Work was very good. They work hard, any problem that came up they knew what to do to correct it, was very well orchestrated. I would hire them again. Thanks!
Keith was very punctual when coming by to estimate the work, to do the work once schedules, and to provide me an accurate accounting of the work done (hours spent). He was a little hit-n-miss on email contact, but I suspect his coming down with a cold and having LOTS of clients to schedule was contributing to that occasional delay. We did have to wait 2 weeks for a door to be shipped after being ordered, and that's expected to throw one 'out of queue'...
He and his staff were very efficient, very good workmanship and very nice to deal with. Quality of work is great. It was a cold/dank day and that garage couldn't have been more than 40 degrees -- but never a complaint, delay or slow down...I really don't know when they got their lunch as it seemed like they were working straight thru.

Keith and his crew arrived on time and ready to go. They covered the floors with construction paper to avoid soiling carpets. 2 workers spent 4 hours replacing the damaged roof vent and patching stucco under a tarp in pouring rain. The rest of the crew went right to work on removing the shutters, reframing the openings and rehanging the shutter doors. They finished by fixing the sheetrock and installing the door threshold. They cleaned up everything and you would never know they had been in and done all that work. Excellent job exceeding my expectations. Keith has an awesome crew working with him.
Do expect a really good job. Don't expect a return text, voice mail or email right away. This annoyed me but then Keith explained that it's just him running the office and he can't always get back to people very quickly. His carpenters that actually did the work did a great job so it made up for the responsiveness issue, and the price was great.
It was a very good experience. Keith provided a quote quickly that was very competitive.
He started the work on time and delivered exactly what he said he would.
Keith was very responsive and provided all the work on time exactly has he said he would. He know the field very well. I will definitely use him again.
