Overall good job. It's about what I expected from a handyman service. Don't expect finish carpenter level of work (or price).

To start out, I should point out that I have built a number of decks in my life; and have lived in California, Colorado, Florida, and here in Kentucky. I currently work in commercial construction, but know both residential and commercial building codes. I typically do all the work around my house; everything from fixing plumbing issues to rewiring electrical, and everything in between. I don’t like to hire contractors because they don’t call you back, disappear after payment, and generally don’t do the work to my standards. I will not, however, get up on the backside of our deck and move 6x6x20 beams to support a roof 35' in the air. So I went through the process of hiring someone I felt was qualified. Since I have the experience, I know how much a project of this magnitude should cost, and how long it should take. I called about 20 contractors around Louisville to get quotes for the work, and besides not getting calls back from a lot of contractors, or bids obviously too low or way too high, I lucked out and got a referral to K&L Home Improvement to build the deck. I found pictures of their work on Facebook, and looked at their current and previous projects to see what they can do, and the quality of their finished product. I then called Keevin Thomas, and had him come to the house and explained what I wanted him to do. I should point out I didn’t tell him my background, and didn’t tell him how to do the job. I only told him what I wanted it to look like. The same thing I told 20 other estimators/contractors before him. He definitely knew all the code requirements, and pointed out code compliance issues he would correct when he rebuilt the existing deck (my deck lacked joist hangers, stringers were undersized in one area) and issues he would solve when expanding the roof. He also came back for a second visit with his roofer/framer because he wanted to make sure he captured everything in his estimate before giving me a final quote. Trust me, this is a BIG plus, because I don’t want to find out half way through the work that you forgot to include gutters, or vinyl siding, or didn’t realize the roof trusses would have to be replaced and now my cost is going up to cover your mistake. He knew exactly what had to be done, and exactly how to do it. I received his quote, and while it wasn’t the cheapest, it was one of the more comprehensive and detailed estimates, explaining exactly what they would do, and how it would be accomplished. I accepted his quote, and he was able to get his guys to my house the following week to start the work, well exceeding my expectations in a busy construction market. What can I say about the workers; it’s COLD outside, but they still pulled off the existing deck and roof, efficiently built the new structure, sealed it up, and completed the work in about two weeks, just like I expected. The other thing I expected, and got, was a call or visit from Keevin each day to make sure everything was proceeding as expected. He walked me through the process of what his guys were going to be focusing on that day, asked if there was anything I needed/if I had any concerns, and brought any issues to my attention (like the shingles were a difficult match because of previous work on the roof in that area) I expect a good contractor to talk to and explain his plan before proceeding, even though they are the experts. At one point, we were having the roof torn off to replace, and I saw there was a major storm coming in a few days on the news. He had a plan in place to cover the house with a tarp days before, just in case, and promised the work would be completed before the rainstorm. He did, in fact, meet every promise he made on the project, including this one, and the roof was ready for a heavy downpour. The work went off without a hitch, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I’m glad I met Keevin, and would call him again if we needed more work done on the house now or in the future. It’s nice to know there is a reputable, honorable contractor doing work in Louisville. I can’t say enough good things about the overall experience and the results. If you’ve hired contractors before, you know the stress involved with having someone tear up part of your existing home. Everything is finished and exceeds even MY expectations.

Initially, it went well but after I called for some follow up work to the work they did, I never heard back from the contractor. I had to call a new contractor to clean up their work. I'm leaving this comment in order for the contractor to respond and make it right.

Keevin showed up when expected and did that job as expected. He did everything just how it was supposed to be done and even through in a few small extras that he did not charge for to make sure the job was done right. Even after I paid him, he called to make sure everything was good. He had a set of two different guys come over and both crews did great work. I will not hesitate to call him again. He does professional work and at a more than fair price.

This was my first experience with Angie's List and this company. Excellent experience. First, communications to schedule/re-schedule for weather were prompt and easy. In first call, he gave me perfect list instantly of materials I offered to pick up (size of lumber, number of various pieces, etc.) - and no left over! They worked quickly, within the time frame and most important did a beautiful job with little details and workmanship that I appreciate and usually have to "ask for". So nice that it was simply done well to begin with. They take pride in their work, cleaning up the site.

What started as an overwhelming and stressful situation became so easy to resolve! K and L Home Improvements Inc. took care of everything from communication with insurance company to offering suggestions for best type of flooring for our circumstances. They were quick to respond to my call, provided detailed estimates and every employee that was in my home was respectful, curtious and kept things cleaned and picked up. Their work was of excellent quality and it was evident that employees took greay ride in their work. I would absolutely hire K and L Home Improvements for anything I needed done in my home!!!!

Great! I gave instructions of the work requested online at the time of purchase of the "Big Deal". They arrived and did the requested work without any further contact. Getting the project completed was nearly effortless for me and they were cheaper than the other estimates that I'd gotten.

Keevin and his crew did a fantastic job for a very fair price. We contracted K&L on 8/19, work began on 8/23 and was completed on 8/25. Everything was handled very professionally and we are very pleased with their work. We will be contacting Keevin at K&L Home Improvements in the future for our home improvement needs and we will recommend them to our family and friends.

Our experience was great. We have never experienced such responsiveness when it comes to home improvement professionals. We encountered an emergency and needed help quickly, and the team here responded quickly and helped ease our minds. Great experience!!!!

They responded to our needs extremely quickly. I contacted them from work and they were at my house before I could even get home myself. The tree did a lot of damage to our home and K & L went above and beyond the scope of work to help protect and stabilize our home from further damage and exposure to the elements. Outstanding service.

Three weeks later we had a beautiful addition. I was happy with the timeline & they even worked with us while we were out of town. We were shown pictures & given updates via phone on progress. I will definitely trust K And L for future projects. They were kind to me, my 3 year old toddler, & two puppies getting in the way at times.

<p>They did a fantastic job painting my house, I feel like I'm in a new home.  My bedroom has a tray ceiling with out dated decorative plaster in the shape of sea shells.  I disliked it the first time I saw it and vowed to change it. They took care of it and now the ceiling is smooth like it should be, more modern day. They removed old wire shelving in the pantry and repaired the holes in the wall - nice and smooth. They also repaired the drywall in my living room where it had buckled over the years because the builder didn't use tape on the seam - now it is smooth city. The crew was great and they cleaned up after themselves and did a good final cleanup when the job was completed. They were even playful with my dog who tried to help out a little too much. I was impressed with the company and I intend to call upon again.  Need some wall paper done now!</p> <br /> <br />

Made me LOVE my house again. After a devastating electrical fire. My home was dark, and sad. Now it better than it was prior too the fire. First impressions are everything. MR K. Thomas, came early w/his roofer, electrician and plumber, day one on time.No rescheduling required. That's what's made moving forward with K and L Home Improvement the only choice. He discussed every step before moving forward to ensure I hadn't wanted to change anything. And of course I did.LMBO. His team was very helpful and respectful of my home and my constant popping up. If I asked for somethings that wouldn't work, they would say no or make a suggestion. The flexibility, RealTalk and dependability was another reason I knew my home was in good hands. Even when my vision wasn't standard or the norm. When it was all put together everyone was happy to put their name on it. K and L Home Improvement, wasn't the highest estimate, but proved to be the HIGHEST & BEST when it comes too Customer Satisfaction!. I was VERY pleased and ecstatic about the time frame and work performed, Easy to talk with, and can't say enough about his professionalism. Did what he said he was going to do and more. ( thank you)
