About Our Owner: With more than 40 years in the building and repairing of fireplaces, Horst Kugel took his apprenticeship training in Berlin Germany. He is very creative in the laying of stone, brick, marble and granite. He has built fireplaces and done stone work for some of Tampa's elite. John Lynch of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers™, and Brad Radke, of the Minnesota Twins™ are just two of his clients that have enjoyed his creativity and the artistic work that he provides. Kugel, lives in Tampa, but travels from Crystal River to the north to as far south as Sarasota, to ply his skills. He does installation, restoration, and renovations. He installs chimney rain caps, mantels and dampers. 3-4 employees. Family owned & operated. Work is done by the owners and son. Additional contact name - Horst Kugel. Additional DBA - Kugel Quality Fireplaces. Kugel also works with Patrick Williams of Benchmark Construction for larger remodeling jobs outside of Hillsborough County. Horst Kugel and his assistant arrived at our home right on time and immediately started. They worked very hard and completed the work the same day. Horst's craftsmanship was outstanding. We were extremely pleased with the experience and Horst's professionalism. <br />

The overall job was done very well. Mr Kugel and his help were very professional and did a great job of keeping the area they worked in clean. The chimney looks as good as new.

<br /> The unit works fine, and looks good,but makes a loud hissing noise if I put it up high, so I have to keep it low. <br /> All in all I would not use this combo team again. I would look for other options. <br />

"Kugel Fireplaces regrets that this customer may not hire us for another job, but with that being said, our hours of operation sometimes can fluctuate due to small family business and we show that our reciepts indicate this customer was given 10% off her gas logs and the gas install contractor was kind enough to pick up her logs from our showroom and deliver and install them. That was done as a courtesy for her and furthermore any conflict between her and the gas installer should not reflect toward Kugel Fireplaces. In the end this customer still rated us at B which contradicts her statements. Thank You Kugel Quality Fireplaces"

I had trouble getting responses from MANY other companies so just getting someone to show up was nice. After that it got better as my home inspection sited a number of things with the fireplace and chimney. Kugel could easily have done every thing that I asked for but instead took the time to look closely and advised me that a number of repairs and even the cleaning were not required at this time. I'll be calling them back for the repairs that are necessary when I can afford it in a couple months. I did pay an inspection fee that will be credited if repairs are done in the future.

Mr. Kugel did a fabulous job repairing my fireplace. I recently purchased my 1952 home and the previous owner had cut a hole in the fire box, installed a stove pipe and sealed the chimney. He was very straight forward with his estimate and explained everything, answering all my questions. We set an appointment for the repair & he was prompt, efficient, and very respectful of my home. He showed me everything he had done, how everything worked and cleaned up after himself when finished. When he arrived to give me the estimate, my neighbor stopped by & asked him to give her an estimate as well. He did and cleaned her chimney and repaired her fireplace the same day he fixed mine. We are both very pleased with Mr. Kugel and would highly recommend him & his company.

The chimney shell was completely replaced and finished off with only one day's notice due to the emergency nature of this repair. Mr. Kugel is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and maintains a strong work ethic that is rarely found these days. He clearly explained all options and submitted a few different estimates based on what repairs would be required upon disassembling the damaged chimney to actually see how much hidden damage there was. Fortunately, the damage was minimal/moderate, and much less than I expected. Mr. Kugel explained that an entire rebuilding was definitely not needed. <br /> <br /> I had two other estimates with other chimney repair firms that assumed extensive damage and told me the chimney had to be completely rebuilt. The estimates were priced for a complete chimney rebuilding at approximatley the same price as Mr. Kugel's if a complete rebuilding would be required. Ultimately, I only paid about one/third of that potential amount for the required repair to Kugel Fireplaces as they informed me that a complete rebuilding would not be needed. <br />

Overall things went well. I struggled to find a fireplace company that would be responsive or even return calls. Kugel was pretty good on responsiveness and did good quality work. Their value was much better than the other quote I received and they were very open about their costs and provided detailed breakdown of the estimate. Communication was pretty good throughout the process and there was no issue with them working in their portion of the job with my main contractor. It was a good experience and I do recommend them.

We had a nice brick fireplace except there was and old heatilator for a firebox and it was rusted. When removing it we also discovered the chimney wasn't stable-we removed this also. Mr. Kugel installed a new metal firebox with brick interior and metal chimney and replaced/repaired the brick around it. We chose this instead of rebuilding the firebox and chimney out of brick because it cost less. Mr. kugel made sure to give us options so we could choose how much we could afford to spend. He was a bit expensive, but very experienced and knowledgable and did a wonderful job. Some of his beautiful stonework appears in the Tampa edition of House Trends magazine. We hope to hire him one day to do some stone work for us. He truly is a master craftsman.

Excellent - they gave us good advice, showed us numerous logs, worked with our installer, Advanced Gas Works (write up submitted) to ensure things would fit. PROMPTLY ordered our beautiful log set, ensuring prompt delivery and kept us and advanced up to date on our order. Very professional and really aware of their products. A pleasure to do business with. (and we had our log BEFORE the last two cold snaps :-)

First, they demolished the old fireplace, then carried a the old bricks out side [I recycled them n a walkway]. The son carried all the new bricks which we selected after a thrilling ride to the brick yard and cement while the father did his artistry. The fireplace looks great and gets compliments all the time.

The logs, which seemed a bit pricey, were installed without problems. A crackler that we bought separately was defective and could not be turned off easily. Kugel was very responsive and helpful throughout.

Mr. Kugel was able to come within a few days of requesting an estimate. He described all necessary work and gave a detailed estimate. I scheduled the work approximately 1 month later. He and his son arrived on time and worked most of the day. Enough complications arose that it required them to come back for a portion of a second day to complete the job. They also had to return a week later to install the chimney cap. The fireplace looks great and because of the detailed description of the work to be completed, I have confidence it was done well. Both Mr. Kugel and his son were very curteous and professional and did their best to maintain a clean working space.

I put off the appointment to fix the holes since I thought it was going to cost a fortune. They kindly sent me a statement in the mail- roughly 500 more dollars. As much time as they spent, I was worried it would be 2 or 3 thousand. I moved the furniture & called them. I knew there was very little if any insulation in this old house. I did not know ashes & cinders, etc. were inches in distance & probably minutes from setting my bedroom wall on fire. I had not used the fireplace much because it got rather smoky upstairs every time I did. I took photos of the scorched paneling that is still next to my bed. The hole however has been repaired (like the others) with bricks and mortar. I'm convinced NO ONE ELSE would have worked so hard to find my problem. Nothing but thin paneling "covered" the 6" hole that used to be a vent from a wood stove. It could have killed me by smoke before I even knew the place was on fire. I believe my life was spared BEFORE the Kugels got here (when the smoke was so bad I quit trying to use the fireplace) and they saved my life by finding the defect. Now what kind of idiot would not cover a hole in the chimney? With my construction experience (a joke) even I would have wadded up some aluminum foil & stuffed it in the hole before I put paneling up over it!

He is an artist. The fireplace is spectacular and he is really reasonably priced. He is very busy, so you have to wait a little, but it is worth it. He is really skilled.
