Dean has an eye for quality final touches that set his work off from others. He pays attention to little 'quality' details which differentiate his work from others.
Often we're also at a loss for what colors would 'work', or how a particular problem could be solved, and when asked for his input, Dean often has excellent suggestions that look great when the work's done.
As a retired couple, occasionally there are items we'd like which come in at a higher estimate than what our budget or cash flow would allow, and Dean's knowledge of alternate items available in the current marketplace often help suggest a less costly solution which we might even have know was available.
As mentioned, we're retired, and though what I can physically do is limited, I try to help when possible with things like running for unplanned but needed supplies - something which seems to happen more often than not on 40 year old-plus homes, and Dean's billing is generous to a fault in reflecting the minor assistance I'm capable of offering.
I am also always amazed at how Dean takes pains to work clean and neat. Drop cloths, or entire work areas covered with HEAVY masking paper or plastic are always part of Den's work, and a cleaned up area after the work's accomplished. A door to be painted is removed, with hardware and door knobs removed and painted outdoors, weather permitting. The paint is on the door - no where else. I've seen other results in other renovations where you can see the door was painted in place, and the difference is obvious.
The process was easy, and Larson Custom Homes must have a good rapport with the building officials in Washington County, because we secured the permit with minimal trouble and the inspections went accordingly.

1. Windows. Job included complete rebuilding of all inside and outside woodwork surrounding frames, removal of old windows and installation of new. Job was complicated by the fact outside siding is no longer available, and therefore window removal needed to be done with close tolerances and no damage to existing siding.

I was amazed at the care given to upgrade and renew all insulation and moisture barriers around the windows, and then fitting and replacing and sealing of the new outside wood sills around the windows.

2. Our home is essentially of 1965 construction and both baths were in much the same condition as when the home was completed, with an exception of a jet bath/shower and tile work in the main bathroom, so his work entailed doing an almost total teardown of the existing bath without disturbing the (newer) tub/shower.

Dean did all the wall texturing/ painting/crown mould work and it worked out beautifully,

I was particularly taken with Dean's good eye and painstaking extra detail work that puts a 'special' finish on a job. Example: In one area, a moulding at floor level runs into a tile shower door surround, and a simple straight cut of the moulding would have left three moulding ridges ending abruptly at the tile edge, which Dean amended by some very clever and creative router work
which turned these ridges 90' to end them at the floor. The work was definitely more 'finished' in appearance.

Similarly, to locate drawer pulls on the new cabinets, simple measurement would probably suffice for most guys in the trade, but Dean quickly put together a 'jig' from scrap lumber which fit over the back of the drawers and located the drilling locations for handle hardware in 'precisely' the exact same location on all drawers. A little extra effort, but one that totally precludes looking at one or more pieces of hardware in the future and asking 'Isn't that drawer pull just a little off center, - or maybe twisted to the left?'

Dean does it once, and does it right.

We have Dean in mind for future projects, and will certainly use him again.

Dean Larsen built our house over 18 years ago. Last year after consulting with designers and other contractors we asked him to work on our Kitchen remodel. We knew the quality of his work would be outstanding and we knew that he's extremely fair. What we had forgotten about was how good he is at suggesting and ldquo;livableand rdquo; options. Going with Dean on the remodel was the best decision we made on the project. When unexpected things happened he kept us informed and worked with us to come up with an option we liked. We are thrilled with the end result. Dean knows what he's doing, pays attention to the details and is easy to work with. He's definitely at the top of our list for the next project.

As a full time Realtor in the Portland Metro Area since 1996, I have known Dean Larson of Larson Custom Homes for 8 years. During that time I have had the pleasure of selling several new Larson Custom Homes. Dean's attention to detail and the superior quality of his work make Larson Custom Homes an exceptional home builder. Dean is conscious of the needs and desires of his customers, understands the importance of being on time and staying on budget, and simply delivers a stellar product. I would recommend Larson Custom Homes to build your dream hom or assit you with any of your remodeling needs!
Michael W. Trevor was very polite and completely professional throughout the process. He gave us the estimate and followed up with us on a timely basis. He did absolutely everything he said he would do, from power-washing the exterior to painting the last shutter, and he did it on time! Whenever there was something he thought we should discuss, he contacted us immediately. He did an amazing job, and our home looks wonderful!! We have the utmost confidence in him and his abilities, and would definitely hire him again. We already have plans to hire him to do paint maintenance until it is time to paint again!!

We couldn't be happier with Dean Larson of Larson Custom Homes! From the first time we spoke to Dean about the project, it was a great expierence! Not only did Dean listen to what we wanted, he made suggestion that we would have never thought of and now we couldn't imagine living without! Dean designed our addition to flow with our existing home, if you came to our home you would never know we have done an addition from the inside or out! We are so glad we chose Dean for our project! We HIGHLY recommend him to our friends!
