LD Phillips Company

This company replaced my existing chimney cap with a custom cap. They were paid in full at the time of service. Post the repair I have had several consistent issues while attempting to use the fireplace, largely SMOKE entering the home. Upon inspection it was found that the custom cap has a 2 in clearance and has rendered the chimney unsafe and not usable. When shown the picture they responded “we need to fix that” “which one of our employees did that”. They agreed to remake the cap. To date they have made one appointment which they did keep and repeated phone calls in which they agree to make repairs but fail to make an appointment. I would love to have a simple resolution as we both agree that it needs to be done but unresponsiveness is a HUGE issue. Update as of 9/27/2023 Reiview update, the company returned and replaced the chimney cap. I have not utilized the cap as of yet. Based on my experience with this company I would not recommend them. Update as of 10/3/2023 Chimney cap update, this company reinstalled a NONFUNCTIONAL chimney cap. The clearance to allow proper ventilation is 13 inches, they reinstalled a cap with 2.5 inches of clearance. This will not allow smoke to vent properly.

The company contacted us immediately and provided an estimate for the work within 48 hours. The work was completed promptly and the team that did the work were extremely professional and completed the work in under an hour. I couldn't be more pleased.

Prior to home renovation beginning, I had the firebox and chimney inspected by LD Phillips. I was told a new spark arrestor was needed and that the cap need to be cleaned and painted. I agreed to have the new spark arrestor installed and asked that they install a new chimney cap rather than paint the existing. As part of the renovations the face of the interior fireplace surround was removed which allowed us to see interior damage to the the chimney itself had occurred over years but was not necessarily related to any work LD Phillips had completed. However, this caused us to need to have a general contractor come out to full inspect the structure of the chimney. During that process we learned that the new spark arrestor installed by LD Phillips was actually about 15 years old, had been rusted, cleaned, and spray painted black to look new. We also learned that they cut the flue and inserted screws through it to attach the spark arrestor, impacting the functionality of the flue and rendering it unsafe. When I contacted LD Phillips to confront this, they hung up the call and would not answer any follow-up calls.

It went great,on time and it took 30 minutes less than the estimated time.
