Concrete Driveways & Floors Installation, Concrete Flatwork - Repair & Resurface, Poured Concrete Wall Service,

About us

We can handle any concrete need you have, from patios and entryways to pool decks and tennis courts. Concrete work is complex and requires specialized training and equipment. Don't trust your concrete work to a general contractor. We have years of experience with working in this area and can provide your home and yard with beautiful, strong concrete at a reasonable price. Concrete is commonly used in patios and entryway areas, and we can provide you with well-poured, carefully composed concrete that will last for years. We also do work for pools and pool decks, allowing you to create the summer fun area of your dreams. Plain concrete can sometimes feel old-fashioned and boring, but we can provide you with stained concrete and colored concrete. These methods allow you to have the concrete patio or entryway you want in a color that matches your homes design aesthetic. If you have existing concrete that is starting to crack or show signs of wear, we can help you with that as well. We can resurface your existing concrete to make it look like new for a fraction of the cost and time that it would take to remove the concrete and start fresh. We also provide many different kinds of concrete overlays, which allow you to personalize your concrete for your home or business. Your floors and grounds should reflect your personality and your design preferences, and, with concrete overlays, your concrete can make a strong design statement. At LJ Miller Concrete and Design, we like to say that “We DO Concrete!"

Fred and others very professional, hard working, efficient, and most importantly, honest! I recommended them to my nephew in Gig Harbor who also had a great experience.

Doug was always on top of the communication and always informed me of when they would be out to work on the project. Fred and the crew were amazing and did top quality work. You can really see the difference between average concrete jobs and the L.J. Miller crew. They know what they're doing and it shows.

The team at LJ Miller is very easy to work with. We started working with them over a year ago as we were designing our project. After nearly a year break, we contacted them again about our project and it was if we just spoke with them the week before. They were still very patient, asked the right questions, responsive, flexible, and kept our interests in mind when scheduling and doing the work. We encountered several changes and their response was very professional and supportive. In all cases, I felt like I was their biggest concern and they were going to do what ever they could to make sure it was done right. When mistakes were discovered, they were quick to correct and/or suggest and implement solutions. The team at LJ Miller is down to earth, easy-going, and customer service oriented. I highly recommend anyone looking for concrete professionals to invite them to look at the job.

I was extremely pleased with Doug and his crews work. They were timely from beginning to end and found him accessible and easy to communicate with. I found as a customer he was flexible with my timeline to communicate on the project. They were respectful of my property and left everything clean and tidy. I was given some design ideas as well as professional advice on what would look best in the end, with some detail items to the project. I very much appreciated that the timeline they GAVE me, was the timeline they adhered to. I would definitely use them again.

I called Doug for an estimate and he got back to me quickly by text. He took at look at my property and gave me a bid for the job. I also had other bids for the job but I was impressed with the fact that he had all of the steps included in the bid that we knew should be included in this concrete repair job. Doug and his crew arrived on the job as scheduled and the job was completed on schedule. I was impressed by the knowledge of Doug and his crew about concrete, thickness, cure time, etc. - all of them knew what they were doing, that was obvious. I went with an aggregate finish and it looks great. Doug even added a step at my back door for me with the left over cement. I would definitely hire them again for concrete pouring needs.
Service and product in the end was great. Made a minor mistake in the original pour that caused some chipping, but they promptly came back to fix it within our schedule. Very helpful team that provided good input in to our little home project.

Doug was excellent to work with. We contacted three bidders from Angie's list. One said he only did commercial work. Another one expected us to do the site work of clearing the sod, etc., so that he could put in his forms and do the pour.
Doug understood our requirement that we needed his crew to do the whole job. He matched the existing concrete (20 year old concrete) with the same texturing (You can't tell that it was two pours separated by 20 years), and he was professional and pleasant to work with.

We did use them based on the suggestion on Angie's List and we were very pleased with them. We liked everything about them. They did a great job. They were very punctual and are reasonably priced. Doug came and gave a honest and very good estimate, which he actually met. He and his team were always on time and very efficient and courteous. They cleaned up after themselves. Overall, it was just a very pleasant experience. We would use them again without any reservation.

We picked Doug because he was friendly and had the least expensive bid of the two we got for the work we wanted done. We, unfortunatly, were not impressed with the work done. We had a sloped corner of our basement slab we wanted repoured to be flat. Per our contract, a "7 foot square" was to be removed and then repoured flat; his crew (Doug was down in Olympia getting some equipiment for another job while they were at the house) removed a triangle shaped wedge, with 7' long sides. When our general contractor confronted him on this, they got into an extensive geometry discussion about what was meant by the phrase "7 foot square". To the credit of Doug's crew, when they recognized that we had a large air pocket under the remaining portion of our slab, they stopped the work and alerted us. This gave them ample time to continue their habit of taking smoke breaks every 30-60 minutes. We also later learned, from other contractors, that Doug's plan to repour the demo'd area should have included re-bar supports every 18-24 inches within the concrete, but it did not.
My other frustration with this buisness was the poor timliness of Doug and his crew. Besides the aforementioned frequent breaks, we had a very hard time getting a definitive date that the work could/would be done. Also, when Doug called at 7pm to announce they were coming the next day, he said they would arrive "around 11". He called at 11:30 to say they were on their way from Federal Way (a 20 minute drive?) and arrived at 1pm. When he then was working with us to arrange a followup visit to repour the triangle wedge, he said they could arrive at 9am.... but then changed his mind and said his son (one of his crew members) actually doesn't wake up that early, so the earliest they could start was 11am.
We ended up canceling the job with them, leaving the jackhammered concrete triangle open, while we reassessed options. In the end, we got bids for replacing the entire basement slab (because of the giant air pocket his crew had discovered). LJ Miller construction was not among the companies we contacted for this bid. We went with a different company, who was able to demo the remaining entire 600 square foot slab in a single day-- Doug's crew had taken 3 hours and multiple breaks to achieve their 7 foot "square".
So overall, the price was fair for the work done.
The work that was done was not the same as that we believed was outlined in the contract, and was not to concrete standards, by our later understanding.
The crew took a lot of breaks.
The "office manager" works late at night (e.g. sending bids and contracts at 11:30pm); there's not an "office number" to reach people at during the day-- though we did have Doug's cell phone. We felt we had a hard time scheduling and knowing when the work would be happening.

The job was delayed by weather which caused the job to take longer than originally estimated, this is the reason for the responsiveness rating of good. However, I do think that LJ Miller did a good job under the circumstances.

Everything went smoothly. Concrete was mixed by hand. I expected this to be done with a small mixer, but the results were excellent anyway. A colorant was added to try to match the surrounding concrete, but the amount was insufficient, so the color match was only fair at best. Quality of work including finishing the surface was excellent, and cleanup was perfect. No mess.

Doug came to our home and listened to what I wanted done in our front yard/ driveway. He had a written proposal to me within 4 days with detailed diagrams of the job. I wanted some old stepping stones inserted in the sidewalk, and he make sure that would work and cleaned/ power washed the stones before using them. I trusted him to design the layout- it turned out great!
Once we agreed on the job and a date the job was done within one week start to finish. Cold weather dictated that the concrete sit covered with plastic for three of those days.
All sod was romoved from my property. He even took a small tree from my yard for no charge that I had to remove for the sidewalk.
The work site was picked up each day the crew was here. His crew ( Freddie and Mike) were friendly and courteous.
I am very happy and several friends have commented how nice it looks.
The finish is exposed aggregate and it matches very well with all existing cement around the yard.

Doug was excellent to work with. Other bidders were expecting us to remove sod and prep the base-much to our amazement and amusement. Doug understood what we needed, was positive and cheerful to do business with, and the results look great. He matched the existing pebbled texture of our patio. I would gladly recommend LJ Miller to my friends and family, and if I need more concrete work done, LJ Miller will be the first ones I contact.

From start to finish the project went very well. Doug and Linda were prompt and reliable in their estimating, scheduling and willingness to work with me and my own project delays. They are a family run business and they treat their customers as such -- it was an absolute pleasure to work with them. I will do so again when it comes time to pouring my new porch!

I called Doug with LJ Miller and asked him to come to my house and give me an estimate on replacing my broken sidewalk. He showed up on time the next day and gave me a reasonable bid. On Wednesday I accepted the bid and requested the job be scheduled. Although it was a small job, Doug was able to get it done by the following Tuesday. Doug is a really friendly guy and he is knowledgeble about concrete work. I'm satisfied with the sidewalk job and I'm planning to have Doug put in a curb for me the near future.

The bid was a little more expensive than others BUT well worth it in the end for the quality of work performed. They were easy to work with, punctual, tidy, and answered all my questions. I am pretty picky but would be happy to recommend this company :)
