Doug and his helper showed up on time and did the main body of work in about half the time it would normally have taken. They applied two coats of paint and even helped my wife pick out a suitable color, after she didn't like the initial color she had picked. The work quality was very good and having a painter that can also do carpentry work is a pretty valuable plus. I will be using him again soon.
Doug was on the job early and sometimes stayed late to complete stages of the project. The project was completed on time. Doug was respectful and had many ideas. I would recommend and I would use Lonestar Painting and remodeling again.

avoid Doug at all costs. I hired this company on June 1, 2015 to replace a leaking section of roof and fix the damaged ceiling below it. It is now November 7, 2015 and the roof still leaks, and none of the other work has been done. I even had to arrange for someone else to remove the construction debris because he left it sitting in front of my hour for MONTHS. He does not return phone calls, and does not show up when he says he is going to. At this point if I do not get the deposits I paid him for work never even started I am looking at taking him to court to get them back.

(I have never written a negative review, but feel I MUST let people know about this guy and be aware. Sorry it's a long story) I met with Doug for the estimate on June 10, 2015 for an out of state owner of the home. He said he'd get started right away and the job would be done in 3 days. Out of state owner immediately sent full payment for the $2200 total. I met Doug at the house a few days later to give him the check from the owner. Doug seemed very earnest & sincere. The only work that had been done was a small opening in the garage ceiling ... so painting prep or painting. A week later I checked to see if the work was done. Now there are 2 openings in the garage ceiling, and a story that we have 'rats' that have chewed into a plumbing line, and they need to be 'trapped'. (This seems very odd, because there are no tall trees near this 2 story home providing an entrance into the attic.... but I trust what he's saying.)

Another week later, I check and I get the exact same story as before. I tell him I've already heard this story a week ago, and ask why there is no prep on the exterior for the paint job. I don't get any answer about that, just evading the question and he's going to get 'right on it'.

Another week later, July 1st I check the house.. no one is there. The garage ceiling openings are closed. I call Doug. He says he had to 'do some other work, in order to pay his plumber because there were 2 leaks that had to be repaired.' I told him that I didn't understand why he had to do other work to pay the plumber because he'd gotten paid for the WHOLE job including exterior paint job up front?! He now says that the 2nd leak cause more costs and he needed an additional $1100 to continue work! I explain to him that his math is not making any sense at all and I did not see how an additional hour of plumber could cost $1100 for a pin hole leak that was barely noticeable! But at this point, the seller is over a barrel and we need to get this job done so that he can sell the home. Doug has been told this 100 times already that time is of the essence. The homeowner & I talk about it and he agrees to wire $1100 directly into Doug's bank account on Friday, July 3rd. I tell Doug to get busy on the exterior prep and get this job done please! He agrees.

The afternoon of July 3rd I get a call from the homeowner and he says that Doug called him and needs him to Western Union $350 to him immediately, even though the owner can show proof that the wire has gone out that morning. Doug explains that his bank says that the wire will not be available for him to 'use' that day, and that he'd have to wait until Monday and that he needs the $350 to get paint and finish over the weekend. Doug tells the owner, "Don't worry about it. The minute the $1100 hits my account on Monday, I will send back the $350 to you right then!" The owner agrees and sends him the money.

Doug did not show up to the job again until 4 days later (after the 4th of July weekend) on Tuesday! I went to the home daily, and no Doug. I called & texted him with no answer. Finally on Monday he answered when I called him while I was at the house alone. He pretended to be at the house working while we were on the phone! I explained that I was at the house and nothing had been done.. he said he was at the store getting more paint because the house was 'sucking it up' (even though no painting had started!)

Work finally started on Tuesday. He called to say he was done. The house was only literally 1/2 painted. Huge areas had not even been touched with paint. But there was paint all over the windows, screens and spilled all over the patio! After many calls & texts, he agrees to go finish the job. Again he said he was done, and it was the same situation and I had to call him out AGAIN.

In the end, it was very poor workmanship. He ended up charging 50% more than his initial quote and then stole the $350 that he begged to receive before 4th of July weekend. For 3 months the owner and I have reached out to him to try to get him to return the money, but he either doesn't respond, or he tells a different 'story' as to why he doesn't send it. (In one of his stories, a bank teller has stolen money from him, which has frozen all of his accounts... so he can't get money suddenly from his bank. Another story, someone ran his debit card without his permission, and all of his accounts are frozen and there is a federal investigation. Neither of these stories explains why he's not been able to do work, and pay the owner from new work. Doug last told me that 'it would be solved very simply.. if I would give him more work, then he could pay the previous owner.' (face palm)

He was extremely erratic, his stories didn't make sense (there were many more 'stories' as to why he hadn't continued to get the job done that I did not share here). He was not trustworthy and his work was horrible.

If you ever come across this guy, don t hire him! Stay away from him! He is unreliable. He was not here when he said he would be. The work that he did was substandard. He tried to put a vertical window horizontally and told me that I had gotten the wrong one. He was obviously not an expert. I gave him an advanced payment for some materials and he never showed up with them.
