We invested in lone star sprinklers because we thought they were a good company. Well if you don't agree with James on his design then watch out. Our grass is dying because his design is the best and he won't change it even if the customer asks him to. It's his way or the highway! He doesn't have very good customer service and certainly doesn't put in what customer ask for. Don't waste your money on this company.
Response from Lone Star Sprinkler Systems
"We met with the customer and gave them a quote for a new sprinkler system. The customer agreed to proceed and we began the process: utility locates, permit, etc. Upon going out to flag the yard in preparation for the install, the customer had made some changes to what she wanted. We made adjustments on the fly (even though it would cost us more) and were prepared to proceed. It was a rainy time of the year and it became obvious that the initial install date would need to be pushed back. We informed the customer and agreed on a new date. Prior to the new install date we went out to flag the yard again. Once again the customer had decided on another change in what she wanted. We made the necessary changes while out there and flagged the yard to match. A few business days prior to the install the customer called the office that she would like to get a quote for adding an area previously not requested. The house is a corner lot and the area was down the side of the property between the fence and sidewalk. Though narrow (5 foot wide) it was a substantial square footage as it was a long fence. We explained that the area would use too much water to be added to the existing front yard zones (they had already been maxed out from the previous changes the customer requested). It would require a new separate zone to keep the same type of sprinklers (spray) as the front. The cost would be an additional $550. The customer didn't want to spend that much. We told her that the section could be added to the backyard zone that uses multi-stream sprinklers (MP rotator). Multi-stream sprinklers use much less water per sprinkler and because of this can cover a greater square footage (though they require a longer run time to put down the equivalent amount of water as spray sprinklers). We would select the correct type: left strip, side strip, right strip pattern MP nozzles which are the equivalent of the spray sprinklers that would have been used on the spray zone option for $550. We gave her a very fair price of $200 for the multi-stream sprinklers option and she decided to go with that option. Since the install the customer had us come out a few times to look at the area as she said it wasn't getting water. We went out thinking maybe a nozzle was clogged up and not spraying. However, each time we went out the sprinklers were spraying as expected. We used the right sprinklers, placed at the correct distance, and the pressure was good. On one visit a tech stood at the edge of the sidewalk and grass furthest away from the sprinkler while it was running and quickly became drenched with water at his ankle and shoe. This was at a specific area the customer was complaining wasn't receiving water. The customer asked the tech why the sprinklers on the side fence/sidewalk can't be like the spray sprinklers in the front. He explained that they don't work well together (spray sprinklers use 3 times the amount of water per minute to the equivalent multi-stream sprinkler). The water demand would simply be too much (also over/under watering issues) to just change them since they are connected with the backyard section. She was originally given that option but declined. He informed her that the section can be separated into a new zone and the sprinkler can be changed to sprays but she would have to pay for the changes. On the final visit that the tech was out there he noted that the run times for all the zones had been drastically changed. On the zone where the customer had been complaining we determined that they had reduced it so much that it was only running about 25% of what was originally programmed. The other zones where also not running enough approximately 50% of the original programming."

Didn't fix. We asked for complete system check and to fix controllers for all zones. One was inoperable so we asked to just go ahead and check everything after fixing the problem. We described the specific problem when he arrived the first time. He said it was fixed then left. Two days later we called and told them that the same thing was happening 'then' they said they couldn't duplicate the problem when he came originally. "So what did we pay for?" Then the tech came back when only my wife was home and charged again (double) for what we originally asked for. So now, a month later, the angle of the sprinkler heads are all off and we can't fix by ourselves
Response from Lone Star Sprinkler Systems
"Thanks for your review. We sent a technician out on 5/16 he performed a system check and found 3 heads that needed repair. He tested the control valve in question several times but it was properly turning on and off on the first visit. He informed what he had found and proceeded to make repairs for the 3 heads. He collected payment of $114 for that visit, $59 system check and $55 for repairs. The customer called a couple days later and said they were again noticing an issue on control valve 3 and wanted it repaired. We sent the tech back out on 5/22 and he had to locate the control valve and then he replaced it. He collected payment of $170 for the locating (had to connect electronic locating equipment to find the valve) and repair/replacement of the valve. *He did not charge a service call fee as we considered it the same as one continuous visit. In total the customer paid $284 not the $500 figure on this review. All our customers are given invoices with the repairs performed. Each invoice clearly shows what the customer paid for at each visit. The customer paid for a system check (adjustments, programming, identifying problems) and repair of 3 heads on the first visit. The second visit the customer paid for locating and replacement of control valve 3. As far as the claim of being charged "double", I'm at a loss for what he is referring to. Scheduling is agreed upon by the customer, so I'm not sure why there was an issue with the tech going by "when only the wife was home". *Please note just like when you take a vehicle to a mechanic and they are unable to replicate the problem, the same can happen with a sprinkler system. We try our best to replicate but it's not always possible. As a general policy we are not going to charge and repair/replace something unless we can see the problem ourselves."

Mostly great. The valve replaced stopped working and they immediately came and replaced again and it has worked perfectly since. A new sprinkler head was set way too low. They came back and replaced immediately although the technician likely new this was incorrect he must have run out of the longer ones and wanted to get system up. They were more than fair with pricing for correction and product warranty replacement. I really like this company and will be using them again.

April 2014. The first time James came out, it was to locate and repair a leaking pipe, split a zone, and cap a zone. He gave us an estimate of $700, and told us it would only take a day. Unfortunately, it took three days, there was difficulty finding sections of the sprinkler system, and it was obviously a lot of muddy work. One zone was converted into a drip line and that seemed simple enough. They even dug under the sidewalk to make sure the grass between the street and the sidewalk didn't die from lack of water. Another zone was to be split, with the section in the flower bed converted into a drip line. That's where the trouble came in. There was a lot of digging and searching, and trying to make things work. I could see that James and his helper were really struggling, but they never complained and just worked harder. I was certain that we were going to be charged for the excess hours, so I was surprised when the final bill came at exactly what James had originally quoted.
April - June 2015. We re-designed the back yard, so we called James again (of course). This time, we knew there would be a lot of work, and we had saved up for it. We wanted one zone moved around a deck we were building, and another zone split, with part of it converted into a drip line for flower beds. James came out to see what needed to be done and we even provided him with the deck plans so he could see where the lines and sprinkler heads needed to be. He's hired more people so this year he has several crews working for him, so he didn't do the work himself. The crew came out in April and replaced the control ($300) as well as a new rain sensor from SAWS. There was an issue with some wiring, which they repaired. They split a zone and installed 200' of drip tubing and irrigation for the new zone, as well as capping several sprinkler heads throughout, and moved lines around the area where the deck was going in. The work was to be completed after the deck was finished. Due to rain and other scheduling conflicts the deck wasn't built until June. I expected a bill in the meantime for the work completed in April, but they didn't send it out. I called them back as soon as the deck was finished so they could come out and finished the work. They came out and adjusted the lines and sprinkler heads around the deck, and ran line under the deck for the plants, which they planted for me, around the deck. They tested everything to make it was all working correctly and taught me how to use the new control. Then they sent the bill, which was roughly $1300, and which I gladly paid.
James and his crew are hard working professionals. Liz, who answers the phone in the office, is always pleasant and fun to talk to. My husband and I are very satisfied with the work Lone Star Sprinkler Systems did for us and we would hire them again.
Initially, James (the owner) and two other seasoned irrigation technicians made a thorough inspection of the current irrigation in the plant beds, found some issues that we were unaware of, and gave us a very reasonable estimate. There were some scheduling conflicts on our part, and the company was very accommodating in working with us. They showed up on time and did the job. We had some questions after we ran the system the next day. James came to the house, answered our questions and addressed all issues. Modifications were made that same day at no additional cost. A company with integrity, honesty and friendly personnel. Highly recommend.
Everything went great from the beginning. I received different estimates from other providers and Lone Star was the best all around in my opinion. There was no sales pressure and all my questions were answered. My schedule changed a few times due to closing delays and that was no issue with Lone Star. James was able to get my system in when I needed it. I was shown how to use the system and to make a few adjustments. I have had my system in for about a month now and have not had any issues. Thanks again!
"Thanks for the positive review [member name removed] and again congratulations on your new home! It was a pleasure to work with you. We both had to adjust our schedules a few times due to situations beyond either of our control(builder & vandals). In the end everything worked out smoothly and we were able to install your sprinkler system without a hitch. Thanks again!"

I was out of town when it happened, and my husband is out of town now, he was the one who was actually there, but as far as I know, everything was satisfactory. They did a good job and didn't leave a mess. They showed up when they said they were going to. They were a little pricey. I think they got out of here fairly shortly after we called.
Response from Lone Star Sprinkler Systems
"Thank you for the nice review. Our goal is to provide prompt, efficient, quality service you can count on. Now, that we have your system running well again, future visits shouldn't be as costly. We recommend a system check every spring to make adjustments to the sprinklers, programming, and identify any problems at the beginning of the season. These visits help keep your system running efficient and help catch small problems before they become major problems. Thanks again for choosing Lone Star and we look forward to working with you in the future!"

Setting up the appointment was easy - very friendly scheduler. Set up an appointment for 11:30, but received phone and text messages that the technician was running early. Since the tech (Raul) already knew I needed a new master valve, he went ahead and started on the work and was almost finished when I arrived from my office. Raul was super friendly, informative, and professional. He walked me through each of the zones as he inspected and showed me what to look for, how to make quick adjustments, and gave me advice based on his experience. Raul also took the time to show me some tricks with programming the system that I did not know.
Super professional, reasonably priced! I'd definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone needing repair or design work.

The service went okay. I paid an additional fee to have some sprinkler head replaced. They were not straight forward with and did not tell me about the additional charge before replacing the heads. Two technicians came out and completed the job in about 2 hours. I had no problem scheduling the service.
