I had laminate in the entry way and in the kitchen of my house. The entire 1st floor has hardwood. They came and they replaced the laminate with hardwood and weaved in new pieces seamlessly. They also sanded and stained it. We came periodically to check on the progress each evening and they cleaned up after themselves every night. Javier, the owner, called me to keep me abreast of each part of the job. When they finished, everything was cleaned up and it was all perfect and turned out exactly how we wanted it to. One of the things that I really thought was exceptional was that we had a broken door in the master closet that was broken. When they replaced the door after doing the floors, they fixed the door, which was above and beyond the scope of work and just a really great display of customer service.

There were miscommunications at some points, but the craftsmanship was very good, and the company was responsive to our calls. Overall, we were impressed with the work, and we'd use Madera again.
Our floors look good and we didn't pay as much as we could have. However, I did not get the service I asked for and they did not complete the work on time. They were between 1 and 2 hours late every day. They fell a full day behind schedule but didn't tell me until it was so late that they had to change type statement of work in order to finish on time. As a result, I didn't get the flooring finish that I originally asked to receive.

I had to repeatedly remind the team about items on our contract that they kept forgetting. Javier, the manager, seemed to make up excuses to explain away their errors. For example, they forgot to finish an area of one room (and never ended up doing it). I confirmed during with estimate appointment and with the staff on the first day of work that the area would get re-finished. When the team forgot, Javier tried to say that it was obviously inaccessible, though it was more accessible than other areas that the staff were able to finished easily. They were also supposed to come back and do touch-ups but never did.

If Madera had told me that I would get what I got for the price I paid, I would have said it was good deal. Instead, the product I got was short of what I was promised and I ended up paying more that I was told. Classic over-promise/under-deliver error. However, when they remember to do the work it does look good. Just make sure you allocate more time that you are expecting in order for them to finish the job, and that your expectations are slightly less than the rosy picture they paint for you.

FOLLOW-UP

Madera followed up after the work to get feedback on the project and reached out a few months later to ask about specific areas where they could improve.

Mostly very good.
One exception was a porch that had mahogany.
They messed up the finish and had a hard time fixing it.
Other than that, pretty good.
I don't know if I would use them again or not.
Response from Madera Floors LLC
"We've checked back through our records and cannot find this customer in our database. Also the review seems kind of vague considering the fact that the customer states the work was mostly very good but then mentions that we messed up the finish. Could possibly be a customer confused with the company that did work for them or a faulty review."

Javier and his team did an awesome job. They arrived promptly each day and made sure that all of my kitchen cabinets and other furniture throughout the mail level were covered with a protective plastic sheet to minimize the amount of cleanup afterward. The floors now look fantastic. Javier is very professional and worked hard to ensure that the floors met my expectations. I would highly recommend Madera Floors to my friends.
The company did a beautiful job in refinishing the hardwood floors on the 1st and 2nd levels; and a long staircase of my 1987 townhouse. They took great care to minimize sawdust and any damage to the freshly painted and newly renovated space. On final inspection of the floor there were a couple of areas that I requested be retouched. They did not hesitate to promptly address my concerns and did a fantastic job. The company worked with me on a very tight schedule, which I greatly appreciated. In summary, I am extremely happy with the floors and would highly recommend Madera Floors.
This was a strait-A experience from start to finish. Madera Floors showed up for the estimate on time and provided very competitive cost proposal. They started and completed job within time frames agreed. The floors are beautiful and far exceed our expectations. Madera did extra work above the contract to make the final product look so good.
Working with these guys was great. We recently bought a 1940 Colonial in Arlington and the hardwoods were in rough shape. I got quotes from 4 different companies and these guys were on the low end which was great. From day 1 they were extremely responsive, professional, and easy to work with in terms of scheduling-- We had a tight window before we moved in and they were super accommodating in order to get the floors done before then. They were so responsive whenever I needed anything which I really appreciated.
The floors themselves look AMAZING. It completely transformed the look of the house. They took great care of the workspace, details and even wiped down the kitchen after they finished. Dust was minimal as they tarped everything up well. I would highly recommend checking these guys out for a floor restoration. They did an extremely thorough job and made 75 year old floors look new again. Just amazing!!
First, let's all agree it's hard to find anyone in the hardwood floor repair and refinishing business who has the time and interest in small jobs. If for no other reason, why get a small payment from a customer just as likely (or more likely) to be demanding and potentially dissatisfied as that of a big job? I spoke with 6 different firms, all highly rated on Angie's (and other) lists. Most had schedules that went out weeks (we have more work being performed in our entryway and the floor needed to be done first). One
(Beaulieu Floors Inc) was even so gracious as to call and leave a voice-mail after they had informed us they were fully booked, apologizing for not being able to work us into his schedule and hoped we had been successful in finding someone. We did: Madera Floors. It took a while to get scheduled, but that's to be expected given that we were a small job to be inserted between larger ones. The gentlemen arrived on time, performed excellent work, made sure we were satisfied with what they had performed (we were), and they were on their way. You couldn't ask for more than that,. I would most certainly hire Madera Floors again.
The floors were in very bad shape -
they had been painted over and carpeted, and neglected for many, many
years. Now, they look splendid. The guys working in the home were
courteous and professional. Some extra repairs of the floors were
needed, and the guys completed the work still in the expected timeline.

I was over seas and agreed to the estimate over the phone. They ended up wanting to charge more than the estimate they originally gave to re-do the floors entirely. I ended up going with a different company because of pricing. I had no problem getting in touch with the company and keeping in contact, however.

Biggest mistake of my life. I contracted them in July to refinish my hardwood floors. The first time they came, they didn't make any effort to keep all of the sawdust out of my new HVAC system and the ducts were clogged with it. They also left chatter marks in several areas, the worst of which was a large "T" section that extended from the stairs to the front room, which they later attributed to "problems" they had with that particular sandpaper. Even thought the owner, Javier Flores, offered to redo the section (and put the offer in writing) while picking up the check for the balance, I couldn't get him to actually send the offer until several weeks later when I finally threatened a chargeback on my credit card.
When they arranged to come back on September 15th, they never showed and didn't return my phone call. It wasn't until the next day after I threatened a chargeback again that they came. After doing a test area and realizing that they couldn't match the color at all, they completely refinished the entire floor again but only addressed the chatter marks in the front room and did not fix the chatter marks between the stairs and the front room. They also messed up 2 areas in the front room (it appears that they missed it with the stain and the first two coats of polyurethane) and again didn't bring disposable filters to protect the HVAC system even though Mr. Flores assured me after the first time that they keep them on the truck just for this purpose. To make matters even worse, they didn't protect my stairs this time and got stain all over the bottom of my brand new top-of-the-line carpeting.
I waited all day on Saturday the 20th for Mr. Flores to come out and inspect the problem areas but he never came. He also didn't come on Monday the 22nd, the day for which he requested we reschedule. My only recourse now is to take them to court.
Response from Madera Floors LLC
"Repairs were done to [removed member name] floors "tooth in" as well as refinishing. Her floors were pre finished and it was explained to [removed member name] as it is to every customer we refinish pre finished floors for that on site refinishing of an originally pre finished floor will never look like a factory finish out of the box. Once the final coat was applied and [removed member name] was able to do a walk through and final inspection of the floor with us, she was concerned with certain things that were completely normal for a floor refinished on site. It was explained to [removed member name] that the things she was concerned about were common imperfections that happen when sanding a floor on site and nothing out of the ordinary. She refused to accept the fact that we followed all NWFA guidelines to refinish her floor and that in fact there was nothing wrong with the workmanship. As we do on all of our work we told [removed member name] that we would do what ever it took to make sure she was satisfied with the project. She called us back weeks later after her project was complete and said she would like us to re sand the floor and start over. We accepted and were there the following day to restart the process. It was explained to [removed member name] that redoing the floors was not going to have a different outcome and that she should expect the same or similar results. Once done the second time she had the same concerns as before. I then told [removed member name] there was nothing else we could do and if she was ultimately not happy with the work we provided to please contact a wood flooring inspector and have them take a look at the floor to make a second professional assessment, we told [removed member name] if she could provide a written statement from a certified professional that something was wrong with the floor that we would refund her in full and pay someone else to fix our mistakes. We never heard back from [removed member name]. Instead we received a letter from our bank stating that [removed member name] had called her credit card company and initiated a charge back of the money she had paid us, her reason to her credit card company was that we never showed up to do the work. We sent our merchant service a copy of [removed member name] signed contract as well as pictures of the completed project. The charge back was over turned and [removed member name] did not receive her money back. Ever since [removed member name] has been leaving us negative reviews everywhere she can. As to the other accusations of clogging her air ducts etc. it's simply not true. [removed member name] floor was refinished with the utmost care and attention to detail. This seems to be a simple case of someone refusing to accept reality and possibly having emotional and or mental issues. We wish [removed member name] the best and hope she can someday realize we did our best to accommodate her."

Renovating my basement and knocking down walls created two large spots in need of patching and repair. It was a challenging situation in need of a creative and practical solution. To make matters even more difficult, I did not know the manufacturer of the existing wood. Had several contractors and flooring experts out, which resulted in varying approaches and costs. None of the solutions were practical. Javier at Madera floors came up with and executed the best solution. He tracked down the existing wood, which others were not able to. The finished product was outstanding.
We had a particularly difficult job as the floors were very old and peeling, with additional damage from dogs. All the flooring in the kitchen and living room had to be torn up and replaced. There was some difficulty in ordering materials which we believe was due to the vendor not the owner of the floor company, but the owners were able to provide substitute wood which we ended up liking more than the original choice. The crew of three were all cheerful workers who spent four days ripping out the wood and carefully replacing the new wood.
While the owners (Javier and Marielis) did not come and look at the progress of the job while it was going on, we felt they had enough confidence in their workers that they probably did not need to come over. And indeed the foreman of the crew was scrupulous about taking care of details which we mentioned as the work was being done. Several minor difficulties came up due to the age of the original floor but the crew took care of them.
We were very pleased at the final look of our house which now looks refreshed and up to date. We would recommend Madera to anyone seeking a quality job completed in a reasonable time frame.

Javier is great to work with, very personable and professional. He was very responsive, had a lot of good reviews, and quoted a good price. We are very happy with the floors -- in particular, he did a nice job on some mismatched flooring so it blends well. The house was left pretty clean -- we still needed to wipe down some walls and floorboards but really remarkably clean considering. We handed the keys to the house over to Javier, left town, and came back to beautiful new floors!
I could not have been happier with Javier and Mary at Madera. From the first call to schedule to the estimate, to scheduling the service, and completing the work, they were even better than I could have expected. While one of their competitors immediately suggested that I simply "install carpet because these floors have been painted and I will not guarantee the work." After a few minutes, Javier knew exactly the type of finish that had been previously applied (not paint) and had no concerns about the work. Now that the floors are finished, I could not be any happier. Their team did an amazing job, especially considering they were cheaper than any other quote I received. Mary checked in multiple times each day to keep me updated and exuded the ultimate professionalism.
I highly recommend you look at Madera Floors first when considering any hardwood floor work. I promise you they will exceed your expectations. I will consider no one else in the future.
We were pleased overall with company's work, although we had entered into the contract with certain expectations on when the work would be completed which were not met. The employees of the company were for the most part very polite and respectful in our dealings with them. There were some initial measuring mistakes made by the company which led to our having to order additional hardwood stock later in the project. There were a number of implementation misfires and delays in getting the work done, to the point that we began to get the impression that finishing our work was of secondary importance to the company. To be fair, there were a couple of snowstorms this past winter which I'm sure derailed some of their planning. However, much of the time, I recall the company attributing other people's projects to the delay. Due to the fact that this is a small company, some of the delay could have been because of over-committed to too many projects, made worse by weather delays. As we wrapped up our project, Javier did offer a small discount for our trouble, but we didn't feel it compensated for the overall inconvenience of dealing with a multi-month project that honestly could have been done within less than a week under ideal circumstances. There were also a number of mistakes made in the workmanship that were not rectified, but they were not showstoppers or worth making an issue of them. Suffice it to say that we were glad to have the vast majority of the project done to our satisfaction and, as I said, the project generally looks impressive overall.

Javier and the Madera crew did an amazing job! From the start, I told him that I wanted to stain my floors dark, and he was supportive. Other companies' reps tried to discourage me from going that route, saying that it would take away all of the character. Javier offered quality work at a fair price, so we accepted his offer. The result was incredible! The level of detail shown to various imperfections in my floor and the quality of the staining job were impressive. When I first walked in the house after the floors were stained, I felt extremely excited... Madera's method of refinishing my floors with a dark stain did not take away from the character; in fact, it enhanced it by emphasizing the wood grains. The floors look brand new and more beautiful than I could have imagined. My stairs were in particularly bad shape, and the Madera crew put in extra work to ensure they'd look like new wood. In addition to the excellent refinishing job, Madera also contained dust much better than I thought they'd be able to do and, importantly, cleaned up after themselves. In the days leading up to Madera's work, I used a few other contractors who left my house in a state of disrepair; Madera's crew clearly took pride in ensuring I wouldn't walk into a construction zone after they left. Madera was on-time, trustworthy, and hard-working. I have already recommended them to two friends and will continue to do so!
These guys are amazing! I had a company come in before these guys and quit in the middle of the job because my floors were engineered hardwood and were difficult to sand without damaging the floor.
Madera Floors came in and was not scared to take on the challenge of fixing the first company's work. Madera Floors sanded the floor with precision and care, did amazing edge sanding work, patched all the gaps, and fixed all the blemishes. Their attention to detail was outstanding. They took the extra steps to make sure the job was done right. No shortcuts. I was super impressed by how many tools and different steps were involved in the process, which they could have easily skipped. They came on short notice and helped me fix up my place to sell when other companies were scared of the job. I was super impressed and will go back to Madera Floors again and again for any type of work like this.
Lesson learned: When it comes to refinishing hardwood floors, don't go with a general contractor, go with an expert. I honestly believe no company could have done better.
Worth every penny.
Thanks Javier!!!!!!!
Madera did an absolutely beautiful job. The floors in our 50 + year old house look amazing and gorgeous. I feel like I live in a new house. We went with an oil-based stain so it took a good week for the job to be finished, but we timed it during a vacation so we didn't have to endure the smell. The job took about a day longer than we expected, but I wouldn't have wanted Madera to rush it if a coat of poly wasn't dry--they ensured each coat was dry and the finished look is wonderful. They also installed some new baseboard molding for us that we ordered from Home Depot and painted ourselves. That part of the job also looks great! We get compliments on our floors all the time. We'll definitely use them in the future, for a new addition.
I also thought they were very affordable considering the job took a week. Great value for what we got.
