Our initial experience was good. They were prompt in coming for quote, working with insurance, doing work. I even wrote glowing review and did a verbal "ad" for them as they were picked as a business of the month or some such with AL. THEN, over time it's become clear we were sold a bad bill of goods. Only weeks after the initial installation was complete, we had leaks in a bathroom area, clearly coming from the roof. We had contractors doing updating work in our home at the time, and the head of Magnum told us that it was their problem, not his. A kind plumber working for us got into our attic, and with a flashlight showed me the specific location where it was clearly leaking directly from the roof to the attic floor, then down into that bathroom. I called Magnum again. He was very rude, refused to go to the attic to see the area leaking, assured me that it couldn't be his problem, but he'd (begrudgingly) do some tar work if it would "make me feel better". So he smeared a big mess on the roof, looked terribly, but magically our leaks disappeared there, never to show again. On that same visit, I asked him to fix an area around a venting pipe that was leaking. I'd placed a bowl to catch the drips. He did nothing about that area, and until further failures in that same area the bowl continued to compensate for Magnum's awful job.A couple of years ago we had leaking around the chimney, tried to contact Magnum with no luck (had this lifetime warranty, you know), got new roofer out. He explained that the Magnum installation had positioned metal strips in exactly the wrong way so that instead of keeping water out, they were actually funneling it in. We spent $700 to repair the area. Then this past year, we had leaking in yet another area of the roof. Again, the problem was with installation and we spent $500 for further shingle replacement and repair. We have a domed metal portion on our roof. Magnum sold us on this special poly "paint" that would be "just like replacing the beginning to rust" area. We fell for that. Spent well in excess of $1,000 just for this special paint that was represented as being a permanent solution. In less than five years, the rust was coming through and the paint appeared to be just a rip-off, certainly not the fix as it was represented to us. To sum: we paid top dollar for the roofing job, thought we were getting a warranty (I can still hear them saying, "family owned, decades in business, we'll be here for you."), and have spent $1200 plus interior repairs to address leak problems with a roof that at present is only seven years old. Moral to story: the proof of a good roof is that it remains functional more than a couple weeks after installation and the proof of good contractor is one does a good job so that when they go out of business they don't leave customers in the lurch.

He put the wrong single to my roof. I wasn’t really impress with him. Nothing was ever done. They don’t really care about anybody else. He walks with the money and he didn’t care about the warranties or his responsibilities to his clients.

Frustration! I waited to write this review because I let my heart get in the way. Piper confided in me that she and her husband would be going through a divorce, apparently he mostly ran this company but she told me it is actually HER family's company. She was desperate to try to salvage her career and company. Although I feel we received a quality job, the frustration of working with her was not worth it. The reason I am now giving this bad review is that we now have subcontractors knocking on my door saying that they have never been paid. All the numbers are now disconnected. My 10 year warranty is now trash and I never received my windstorm certicicate.

the work started and was completed quickly, then, we received a call from our tenant about a leak. Magnum was quick to send someone out to look, and it was determined that roof drains needed to be reworked. They fixed it and it was good for about a year or so, then we started getting calls from our tenant for minor leaks. Piper sent someone over a few times. My office is out of state, but I went there last fall (2012) and saw that the new roof membrane they installed was peeling up all over. I called and emailed Piper and the main office several times, and while she said she was going over the first time I called, since then, I can not get a response, or report if she ever went.
Our tenant since vacated the building, and the Broker we hired to lease the space says there are leaks everywhere.
We have yet to receive a return call, much less get anything fixed. A few other roofers we have had out since have told us that the roof system they installed should have never been installed on that type of roof.
Awaiting a reply!
Piper was excellent to work with! Magnum Roofing listens to you! I asked for a particular color for my roof, no one else in the neighborhood used that color. After we had our roof done, all the neighbor had theirs done almost the same color! I am very happy with the service, the price, and last but not least Piper! Thank you again!

They came out and did an assessment of my roof and told me that I did not need a total roof replacement at this time. They said that the pipes in my roof could begin to leak and I could use the coupon to replace all of those and repair my roof tiles from the hurricane. Since, I had already paid for the coupon I decided to go ahead and let them do the work. They came out on a Saturday as discussed and did the work. No complaints.
When she originally quoted a great price which I should have set me off, but I went ahead. By the end of the work, she had increased the price by about 30%. I had them put the roof on. I wasn't very knowledgeable about a roof. Based on the recommendations on Angie's List, I trusted them. I thought they actually did a good job, but when I had my handyman look at it, he said it was not done properly. He pointed out the things that were not done on the roof. I have the contract that says what they were to do, but they obviously did not complete that contract.

There's a drip-edge along the eaves before, but when they removed the old roof, they didn't replace the drip-edge. The roof vent is supposed to go across the entire section of roof, but it only goes across 1/3 of it. They were supposed to remove and replace the decking underneath so it would be a smooth roof, but there are dips and waves in my roof now which suggests they never replaced it. I had one of the workers who worked on the roof leave a note with my tenant saying he would file a lien if Magnum didn't pay him.

I contacted her regarding the situation and she stood me up.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and quality of the work. I feel Magnum helped create a proper solution to my home's roofing needs that will keep us dry for many years. We had some initial scheduling difficulties, but those were quickly cleared up. Worked with the company owner, Piper Chilson, and had a good experience.
Scheduled appt for a quote and Magnum did not show up. Called them back and they went out of their way to make it right (as they should have), stopping by after their normal hours to inspect and make a temporary patch free of charge. Quote returned the next day. Very competitive and Magnum committed to handling some related issues (gutters, etc...) that weren't just the roofing job. Our home has very little ridge-line, so normal ridge vents do not adequately ventillate the attic. This can void shingle warranties as they require the roof meet construction specs, including attic ventillation. I prefer passive ventillation over a mechanical blower (no noise, electricity use or maintenance) and Piper offered a passive vent solution. They were available to start within a week. I chose Magnum because their price was competitive, their quote was comprehensive in handling all the issues needed to fix my roof, their solution was thoughful, their product and installation has a 50-yr warranty and they could get to work right away.
They arrived promptly and finished the roofing job in 2 days. Very quick. They found some rotted wood in our decking and made appropriate replacements, but that was the only additional charge (and the charges were made as described in the contract, so no problems there). Foreman was very professional and helpful. 2 man crew returned later (as agreed) to install radiant barrier in the attic. Again, very professional and courteous. They still need to finish the fascia board installations and I need to get the paperwork in line to file for my warranty (inspection results, etc...), but this work went about as smoothly as I can imagine. They even took down and re-installed the basketball goal mounted on the front of our garage.
In summary, the price was good & competitive, we had initial communication issues, but once those were resolved they paid attention to details, clearly communicated all the issues they saw with my roof, put a lot of thought into solving my problems and then took care of everything. They were comprehensive and totally professional. I have no qualms about highly recommending Magnum Roofing.

Update: replacing fascia boards. This seemed to be taking a long time, but I was busy with other issues and trusted they would get to it. Piper called after a week to say it was done. The problem was that interior trim materials had been used, so they needed to match the profile while using exterior grade materials. That took a while, but they found proper materials and installed them. Piper also gave me the information needed to order more matching materials to upgrade all of this trim material in the future. They took care of all the issues as promptly as possible and the work quality seems great.

To summarize again: professional, thorough, skilled, fair-priced. Very satisfied with the whole experience. I would use them again and/or recommend them to friends.

On July 12th, I reported a leak in the roof. It was so bad that water ran down the walls and made a puddle on the floor in the dining area. I told them that we had gone into the attic and seen where the water was entering. I asked them to repair the roof since we have a 5-year workmanship warranty that is still in effect. I have called three times and got one call-back when they said they would come out on July 19th. They never showed, although we stayed home all day. When my husband called the next day, he left a message asking if they were going to honor the warranty and we never received a response. I want them to repair the roof or pay me for the money I'm going to have to spend to get the work done by another company.

The meeting with the sales person went well. He came out and did an initial inspection of the roof. At that time it was presented that it was a good chance that the roof claim would be approved by my insurance claim. Also, I was presented with a catalog of material choices and I executed a contingency contract to engage Magnum Roofing if an insurance claim was approved for total roof replacement.
The insurance company did approve a total roof replacement. Upon conversation with Magnum office staff, there was question as to the validity of the pricing and availability of the materials I was wanting due to the wanted upgrade that I was paying for above the amount being paid by the insurance claim. I told that the person that if the price and the presented materials were not available as stated in the presentation then we could be in a position where we were out of contract due to their possible failure to delivery the discussed items. Part of the explanation offered to me was that the sales person was new to the company and did not know the products all that well. I explained that during our meeting I made detailed notes as to the products discussed and the pricing offered in the material catalog in front of the sales person to ensure that there would be no confusion as to this point and that the sales person's lack of knowledge on the product he was presenting should not be deflected on me as the customer.
At this time I was also extremely busy with my job and had some health issues that caused me to have a visit to the ER. Since I did not respond to two voice mail messages from the sales person and the office staff, I was presented with letters from Magnum's attorney from Houston that I was in breach of contract. The letters stated that I owed Magnum 25% of the estimated cost of the roof replacement. One was sent regular mail, one sent via certified mail, and the third was sent I felt this was overkil and totally left a bad taste in my mouth.
Then in trying to get the job scheduled the office staff was unavailable and unresponsive due to her having health issues and no one being able to fill in her absence. The job was finally scheduled and completed. The guys that did the work appeared to be clean and got the job done on time. Although, they totally knocked my satellite dish out of alignment and we had to have a person from Dish come out to rectify this matter.
Then there was the matter of trying to pay for the job. Again the office staff was unavailable and unresponsive due to her having health issues. I have never had so much trouble trying to pay someone for services being completed in my life. If finally drove a check to the office address on the agreement I signed the day before leaving town for the Thanksgiving holiday. I slide the envelope with the check under the office door in hopes that I was in the right place and they would get the check.
I can say that my roof has not had any issues since the installation. But, with the experience that I had with getting the job done, I will not engage Magnum Roofing again. I feel if people are going to be in business supplying services to external clients, they need to be available or have some one that can step in and work with client in their absence. Also, it is not my responsibity as a customer to educate a sales person on the products they represent. I am not the subject matter expert nor should I expect to be. A sales person should be well trained prior to coming my residence and representing a company.

It's a family business. They have a high rating on Angie's List. I don't remember the man who came out, but he got married to a woman that I spoke to and her name was Piper. She takes care of the books. She is in the office and he is in the field. There was some miscommunication that was missing. He said he would call when his men would come out. We were sleeping 7'o clock in the morning and all of a sudden, his men were here. The car was in the driveway and we were in our pajamas. It wasn't done well. His men were spectacular in putting the roof and they were professional. I couldn't ask for anything better. I have seen all the other roofs that have been replaced in this area. These people are certified. They did a magnificent job. The woman in the office explained to me that she couldn't understand that her husband was having a problem because they have a young child and I think it's their only child who is critically ill, so was in the hospital. He was terribly distracted and I understood that. He gave us different suggestions to put the roof, so it would reduce the cooling bill. He was right because our bill has stopped to $100 a month. It was a really big deal. The roof was done magnificently well. They had much lower estimates that nobody else offered in energy save the roof and the vent lines like they did. They arrive before I knew it. Their crew was the top. Even though they don't speak proper English, but they are still certified. I would recommend them, but anybody I recommend I would say get in writing, listen carefully, and stay with them. They are the best. The roof and the quality of the roof will be important during the hail storm and I can't afford to have anybody else.

Dustin was courteous and did a good job on this project. The tree was big, so it was a challenge. He hired a company to come out to pick up the tree debris, and it took them a couple of days to actually pick up the debris, but it was finally taken away. And the work on the roof was great. I'd hire Dustin again. He does the work, and his sweet wife answers the business phone. They're a good team.

The roofing just went well. They were quick and their clean up was good. The roof looks great. Their price was very competitive. The reason why I gave them an F on their professionalism is because they did not pay their supplier for the materials and the supplier's attorney sent me a letter threatening to put a lien on my home. I had to spend time dealing with that and it went on for weeks. In fact, it took a month to get it resolved. I shouldn't have had to deal with that and I think if they had paid their bills promptly then this would have never happened. My girlfriend's house had a new roof put on it in the last 2 weeks. I went to Angie's List to look for other roofers and Magnum still came up as a well rated company, but I did not contact them.

They were able to accommodate us expediently, which was critical for our closing date. They were professional and followed OSHA and COH standards. Since we had a three story home, they had to rent a lift and get the job permitted. If I needed roofing work or repairs done in the future, I'd hire them again.

The work went well. They showed up when scheduled, completed the work on time, cleaned up, did not submit any extras, and did a good job. There was a minor accident where something was dropped in the attic and busted a hole in the drywall ceiling of a room. They fixed the hole, including texturing and painting, prior to finishing the overall work. No problem.

I originally found Magnum here on Angie's list over a year before I had the work performed. I met with Dustin Chilson at the time, expecting to have the work performed at that time. After meeting with him and getting proposals from 3 other companies I decided that Magnum had the best value and offered the most thorough knowledge and service. My personal life took some turns and I was not able to have the work done when I originally intended. About a year later, I was able to follow through on my roof repairs and, since I had a good experience with Magnum initially, I contacted them again to get the estimate recalculated. Due to both some odd things in my schedule, and on the side of the staff of Magnum, it took a while to get the new estimate information which ended up working in my favor as far as the timing. We had a little trouble getting supplies to the location on the scheduled first day, due to weather and shipping. Once the work was started it was amazing how fast and well the job went. Dustin met me two days after the job was completed for a final walk through and a final payment. I saw one nail sitting on the roof, which he climbed up to and removed. Overall I am very pleased with the results of the work and my area has seen all sorts of storms in the intervening time and i have had no problems at all with any of the work done. I have recommended Magnum Roofing to multiple people since my experience.

I would absolutely not recommend them. The whole process was very dishonest and they lied about everything. The pricing was okay. I would not use them again.
Response from Magnum Roofing
"I am actually glad this member would not recommend us considering the fact that it is completely untrue. We honored our contractual agreement with this person 100% and left the property spotless and free of construction debris. I should know because I was on the project the entire time the roof was being replaced. This client still feels, however that we were “dishonest and lied about everything”. Although I was there and went above and beyond for this person, the same as we always do for our customers on any project. Unfortunately you just can’t please everyone. I would also like to add for the readers…, that “Magnum Roofing” is fully staffed and equipped with industry trained personnel to handle 3 separate residential house roofs per day at an effective and maintainable rate. I found through Angie's List. They made sure that I could get the insurance. Their pricing was good because I had had one estimate for $2200. I felt that I got my money's worth for the $600 that I spent. I never met them, but the experience over the phone was great. I had no complaints at all. There is a lady who works here with me and she said that they were good to her. They were very nice when she met them.

We found the salesman professiong..addressed out concerns about adequate nails, which had been a problem with our previous roof. Magnum worked with our insurance company, put the roof up in a two day period and the property street, alley and backyard was emaculate when they were done. We were quite satisfied.

. Their workmanship was very poor. They did not deliver on their promise. I contacted them several times advising them that their workmanship was bad and that they promised to do one type of roof, and I received another. They would not return my calls each time I would call and would make up a different lie each time. The roof was not put on properly. They put on the wrong shingles. It was the cheapest shingles that money could buy.
Response from Magnum Roofing
"I would like to provide an explanation to each complaint in the above report in a simple and understandable fashion as follows…. Customer Complaint #1. The customer complained that the workmanship was “very poor”. Magnum Roofing Response #1. First of all, every job that Magnum Roofing does is a MANUFACTURES BACKED job which means that, not only does Magnum Roofing warranty everything including workmanship on the job but so does the manufacturer of our roofing products. With that said I would like to point out that our manufactures representative and a building engineering firm both signed off on the completed roof job after the customer had complained, both parties agreed that everything on the completed roof was just fine. I can and will provide these reports in writing for anyone that may be hesitant in choosing my company do to this customers review. Customer Complaint #2. The customer complained that we “did not deliver on our promise”. Magnum Roofing Response #2. We definitely delivered on our promise in every aspect. We showed up at the exact time we promised the customer and when the job was done the perimeter of the house was “spotless” of construction related debris. Everything was done exactly as the contract was written. And I can prove it! Customer Complaint #3. The customer complained that they had called us several times because of poor workmanship and we would make up lies each time and basically give them the run around. Magnum Roofing Response #3. This customer called my office multiple times after the job was completed and I was paid. And every time my office staff would answer the phone the customer would always repeat the same things in a very disrespectfull like manner. They would say “you better get out here because we are having problems with our roof”. Every time they would call I would have a roof service tech out there the same day! We went back and re explained the same situation multiple times to this customer. Customer Complaint #4. The customer complained that we put on the “wrong shingles” and that we “installed the cheapest shingles money could buy”. Magnum Roofing Response #4 part 1. Before the contract was signed (between the customer and Magnum Roofing) I clearly asked this customer what shingle they wanted. When the customer told me I included the shingle choice on the contract. The customer verbally confirmed their shingle choice with me and even signed the contract! Magnum Roofing Response #4 part 2. When the customer mentioned that we “installed the cheapest shingle money could buy” , keep in mind, myself and the customer signed a contract while knowing exactly what shingle they wanted from a selection guide. She didn’t get the “cheapest shingle money could buy”. The shingle happens to be the most reasonable in price for my manufactures line of products but when compared to other manufactures shingle products it is superior and I have documentation from Underwriters Laboratories to prove it if needed. Hopefully this will alleviate some of your concerns if you read this customer’s above review and choose not to use my company. I hope you will read some of our other reviews and see that we obviously do not have a reputation for dishonesty or sub standard workmanship. Sincerely, Dustin J. Chilson V.P Magnum Roofing"
