Went great - had 4 guys including a guy who really knew how to lay on the mud to fill the cracks.
They used drop cloths in all rooms. I purchased the paint, They did two coats in all rooms.
Neat - virtually no spillover to the colored walls. They mesh reinforced all cracks, then mudded and then painted.
Six months later cracks still unnoticeable, ceiling look like painted yesterday. No sore back for me.
"Thanks for taking time to review us, sorry your experience was not to your liking. You were another client who was unfortunately looking to have work done during a major transition for this family owned company. We are definitely on track now! When we spoke at the time of completion, you asked for us to return and do some additional painting, which made it seem like you were happy with the work, no? It was small enough so we decided to do this at no cost to you. Call it a present. Then you asked if we could do more work at no cost, for which we said no thanks....you threatened that you would write a negative review. Good luck to you and whome ever you contract to do anymore work on your home, but this is not the proper means to negotiate. ~jayson"

Our living room had very old wallpaper that my husband attempted to remove himself. After discovering how difficult and time consuming it was going to be, we called Majic Painting. They were very responsive about giving an estimate and quick about scheduling the work. Mark was very professional and friendly and did the work quickly without leaving a mess. It was definitely worth the price we paid. I would use them again.
I had 3 price quotes on the exterior painting job and Majic Painting was one of the best rates. The finished porch and deck look great -- very professionally done and clearly quality work. The only glitch I experienced in working with this company is that there were a number of hold ups and general lack of communication about the start-date, but once the job was underway, they prioritized it and the entire project was completed in a timely manner. Both the owner and the employees were very professional and courteous. I would recommend this company to a friend!

"Thanks for taking time to review us. I am glad we got your project on the schedule as it was a little "square peg in a round hole" scenario. You needed us in there as fast as you did, and being booked out so many weeks (at the time) was the challenge. Not to mention with a new manager coming in and the other manager moving to our Portland office there was an internal challenge too, for us. I am glad it all worked out for you and I know it worked out for us. ~jayson"

Harold was very personable. He provided an initial estimate for wallpaper removal, glue removal, the cleaning of the walls, priming, patching, and ceiling painting. He also made sure to explain to us at the time that there is some variability when working with wallpaper since the time it takes to remove wallpaper depends on the kind of glue that was used, how much of it, and the condition the walls are in after all the wallpaper has been removed. The completion of this portion of the job ran $250 over the estimate. However, when you take into account all the work we had done (see our total cost above), we felt that the difference between estimate and actual was still competitive and reasonable. After talking to others who have attempted wallpaper removal on their own, we decided it was money well spent.
As we prepared for the painting portion of the job, we were able to meet with a color consultant as part of our contract. Deb provided good tips and advice on color combinations to use so that the whole house could follow a general color theme. She was also very aware of upcoming trends. This was helpful since we wanted the color used for the nursery to also jive with the colors used throughout the rest of the home. While finishing the painting portion of the job, the Majic crew also took care of a large crack that ran along the living room ceiling. Overall, the paint looks like what one would expect from professionals.
I am pleased to say that our home no longer looks like a mid-sixties time capsule. We would use Majic again in the future.
Even though I was late looking to book someone to refinish my deck for the summer, Majic Painting came through and was able to fit me in between jobs. They showed up and took the time to tell me all about my deck -- this is a new house for me and I wasn't sure exactly what I had -- and then went out to the truck and wrote up an estimate in 10 minutes.
They scheduled me for about a week later. Day one was a pressure washing. They made sure to mask off my painted siding and the patio are under the deck. The next day they returned and sanded the entire deck to make sure all the old oil was gone. Since my deck is Brazilian Tigerwood, they couldn't just use stain -- it needed a special application of oil.
They even replaced a few trim pieces that I had knocked off and lost during winter shoveling.
They stopped by a third time to check how the finish turned out and to make sure I was happy.
Overall I can't say enough good things. The deck still looks great. Would definitely hire Majic Painting again.
The transformation is amazing! We feel like we're living in a brand new house. Several of our neighbors stopped during the process to tell us how great our house was looking and one even had Harold with Majic Painting come over to give them a quote for some interior work. This was a great way to start our summer and we've been enjoying our house and deck ever since!
Harold was very easy to work with. He gave his time generously, even when he had other places to be. He is very professional and clearly very experienced. We welcomed his suggestions with paint color, sheen and deck refinishing. We felt comfortable that this project was in his very capable hands.
Sara was the foreman (or forewoman) on the job. I can't say enough about her! She was a pleasure, very professional and knowledgeable. We had a short timeframe that we needed this huge project to be accomplished in and she was able to keep it all on track. The nervousness that I was feeling with the impending deadline of this project all went away upon meeting Sara and experiencing her calm and confident demeanor. That peace of mind was invaluable. I was able to focus on my career and children knowing that the work would be done in time for our big party! On top of all of that, the clean up was impeccable.
All the way around our experience with Majic Painting was better than we expected. So much so that I joined Angie's list just so I could share my experience. Too often people are quick to write negative reviews and not take the time to share when a company has gotten everything right. Majic Painting got everything right and I am very grateful!
I hired Majic to paint the exterior of my home, which I moved into a few years ago. The painting would include soffits, window trim, etc., as the majority of the home is stone and some aluminum siding. The previous owners did not do a good job of keeping the house maintained, and the exterior paint was not in the greatest condition. There were sections of paint that were peeling/flaking off, and most of the areas had multiple layers of paint. This was going to be a project that needed the "professional touch" as the amount of work involved would be more than I could handle myself. The work that was done, did not have the "professional touch." I am certain I could have done a better job myself, and I don't call myself a professional painter. What I received was a sloppy and low quality paint job, over two days.
Day one, I had to ask the crew to stop working because from what I could see, it was not what I was looking for. I called my contact in Majic to go over what I was looking for, and we met the next day at my house to review the work that had been completed. It was agreed that the work was not being completed as we had agreed upon. The areas to receive paint were scraped poorly and saw little to no sanding to even out the areas that still had layers of paint.
Day two, a new crew returned and did some extra scraping and did some sanding to even out the transition areas from bare wood to layered paint. Once the crew was done for the day, I went out to inspect the updated work. This was marginally better, at best. There was still a substantial amount of existing paint still on the surfaces, which I understand can be difficult to remove. Majic might say this was a miscommunication between the two of us. Even if that is the case, the "feather sanding" that I was supposed to receive to make a smooth transition over the layered paint edges, is non existent. The finished work has a texture to it that resembles crocodile skin.
Besides the poor painting, the areas that should have received treatment for cleaning up the caulk around windows, trim, etc. saw a poor job as well. Once again, something I feel I could have done better myself. And finally, the workspace was left rather messy. I have paint scraps all over the place. All in all, I was not impressed by the work completed by Majic. The only positive I have to share: my interaction with the personnel was pleasant as they were very friendly.
Response from Majic Painting Inc
"I am sorry that this experience was less than what you had hoped for, we have since done a much better job reaching the expectations of our clients, getting on the same page is SO important and you had asked for a "speedy job". I believe this project came our direction because the city had issued this property a nuisance and required immediate action on your part! We had made mention we were booked out for 3 weeks and you behoved us to help in your efforts to "get the city off your back" you bought this through angies list before considering how booked out we were! We moved you way up the list in our attempt to help you in this time of crisis, but still this has come back to bite us! I agree that the work that was originally performed could of been done better, and thanks for letting us return to finish the project, even though I thought the arrangement you had asked for was to be just the basic prep. We did mention even before work began that this older home and its distressed paint could use paint removal, for which you didnt want to have performed. No amount of reasonable sanding was going to make the drastic transitions from old to bare wood look new again. The price for you was what sold the job, again you bought a coupon on line. You get what you pay for and you asked for a quick and cheap (inexpensive) job. and that is what we gave you."

The job went precisely how I wanted. It was not a major project, so I was glad the project manager Alyssa handled her estimate and timeline proposal quickly and professionally, without a lot of direction from me. Her people showed up for the project on time, performed the work in a couple of days, and I had no complaints about the work they did. Sent them a check and away we all went. I really liked the format of the proposal. Outlined expectations on both sides.
Mike and two crew members arrived on time and were finished in less then a day. Very professional group of painters. I asked them to look a my gutters because they seem to be leaking in rain storms. The gutters were not the problem, a tennis ball was blocking the downspout. Problem solved.
Response from Majic Painting Inc
"No more tennis on the roof, I suppose. Thanks for the kind words and glad we could help."
