The electrical work started in February, 2019 and ended in July, 2019... We worked with most of their electrical team. Some capable and some appeared less than capable as were unable to repair the predecessor electricians mistakes, in the kitchen or the adjoining garage, where a sub-panel was located. Several times we were unable to receive service or proper service as the owner chose to find other electrical profits in the state of Florida, a Walmart store that was either to open or in process of re-opening. We were required to work around these disruptions w/ the county inspector. Note that we initially obtained other Angie's List bids for this scope of work and current market pricing. Manchester Electrical was the only service who did not include electrical demolition work in their estimate, all others did include same. This bid appeared very reasonable. Later, we found that their non-included demolition bid was in the amount of $675, greatly increasing their charges over their competitors. The owner, the young grandson was unwilling to compromise... The company salesman included their own product/ version of under cabinet lighting system, installed twice. This was installed by their lead electrician but to no avail. Each time this was installed,, it failed completely. Finally, we agreed to a compromise. I purchased an agreed under cabinet lighting system from Amazon.com and it was installed accordingly. This was at or near the month of July 2019. Note that the owner threatened to sue us although their salesman was to pick-up the check @ our house, he never arrived, as promised. Their reasoning was due to my questions pertaining to how they arrived at their electrical pricing of demo work... They removed electrical wiring in the kitchen. They installed ceiling light system as well as switches on both sides of the kitchen. Also, electrical receptacles at both ends of the island and an electrical sub-panel box in the adjoining garage wall. The installation of our purchased under cabinet lighting system. Repairs to our exterior rear lights, rear kitchen wall and interior of kitchen.

UPDATE RESPONDING TO COMPANY’S COMMENT: My concerns about this company were warranted. The county inspector failed 3 of the 7 detectors for being improperly installed. I am including images of the inspector’s letter along with photos of the units. I will be making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. As to my rebuttal, feeling very victimized, I signed my work order simply to get Eric, the electrician, out of my house because of all that had happened. First, besides not giving me a price (I would have refused any work be done had I gotten one), he kept telling me he wasn't sure that he would be putting the alarms in the right place. How was this supposed to give me confidence in his ability to do the job? Then, he said he would probably have to come back to move them, adding at one point that if he had to come back, it would just be time, implying I would be charged. It had nothing to do with another unit in the basement, as the company falsely claims. Also, Eric complained more than once about having to put the detector on the vaulted ceiling (where I thought it should be) because he said it was going to be hard. Against my initial request, he put it on the wall, which failed the inspection for not being on the ceiling. Additionally, it took the inspector 3 pushes of the test button -- not 1 as the company falsely claims -- to test the 7 units on 3 floors because they each have to be inspected for lights and sound once activated. Eric only pressed the test button once, never checking the units in the bedrooms because we never made it up to the second floor before the test ended. Finally, I have yet to receive a phone call from this company that has been in business 40 years and says it has an A-rating from BBB. (Photo of county inspector's report. Photos of failing units: detector installed on wall instead of ceiling; detector way too close to return vent; detector improperly attached to ceiling because Eric drilled the second screw hole in the wrong spot. Unit attached by only one screw on one side, so it hangs ¼ of an inch below ceiling on the other.)             INITIAL REVIEW: I would never go with this company again. This company was a subcontractor (sort of) to our bathroom contractor. Not only was the price outrageous for a wireless system, but at a minimum I question the work ethic of the electrician since he never fully tested the system, telling me if it didn't work, he would come back at my expense. Part of the problem started because the contractor who did the bathroom work called this company. I had not expected him to do that. I'm an engineer and handy with a drill, so I had already started researching wireless smoke/carbon monoxide detectors like the inspector told me to get. I told the bathroom contractor that we had a wired system with the 3 smoke detectors tied together, but they weren't working together, only by themselves through battery backup. We needed those 3 working together with 4 new installs for our bathroom project to pass the county inspection. It turned out I paid an outrageous price (nearly 3 times what I could have done it for) for 7 of the same wireless models at Home Depot that would have cost me less than $400. I could have easily installed them myself. One serious problem was that I asked for a price, but the electrician wouldn't give me one because there was confusion about whether I was paying him directly or going through the bathroom contractor. Even when I said that I would pay it directly, he didn't give me a price. I didn't get a price until they were installed, and I was completely shocked. For that price, the electrician should have run more than one test. He only tested the unit on the 1st floor. I have no idea if the bedroom units on the second floor actually work. He told me that the inspector would let me know. WOW! The contractor was thinking of going with this company for a large rewiring project we need done, but I told him this company was not welcome in my house. I got ripped off in several ways. If the bathroom contractor hadn't been involved, I would have refused the bid. I should have questioned the bill and lack of testing, but I didn't because I was just shocked by the bill and a few other things, besides the confusion with the bathroom contractor being involved..
Response from Manchester Electrical Contractors
"Our company has been in business for over 40 years. We have maintained an A rating with BBB and Angie's List for years. We take offense at the accusation that we "ripped you off". To begin with, our office was not even aware that you were unhappy with your service until we read your review. You signed your work order stating that you were satisfied with your service. When we spoke with your electrician he said that he was not told by you that you were unhappy either. Your electrician tested the system at our warehouse and in your home. He walked with you throughout the home to confirm that the system was working. With the system that you have only one device needs to be triggered to determine if the set is interconnected and this test was completed. Each of your devices are labeled with the installation date and the suggested replacement date of 10 years from the replacement date and the electrician left the installation guide and warranty guide with you. When the electrician spoke of the inspector he said that the inspector may require a device in your basement room and if so another device could be installed at a later date and still be interconnected. Regarding your accusation that the electrician stated that if the system did not work that we would return at your expense. This just simply is not true. We have never done this. We stand behind our work and if there is a problem, we return at no charge to address the issue. Regarding your price, your system is a 10 year system. The system alone cost $800 and it was not purchased at Home Depot. The price of your devices was the bulk of your total cost. We strive for customer satisfaction on all of our projects and wish you the best with the rest of your project."

It was fabulous. Their electricians are prompt and courteous, and do quality work. They are reasonable, and their company stands by their work, so if there are any issues, they send someone right out to fix the issue and do not charge for their own mistakes, which are rare. Scheduling is fast, and you can even request the election you like if you want, (though that might cause a delay if he is scheduled elsewhere). The owner is accessible, and willing to explain and answer my questions if needed. I couldn't ask for a more responsive company to deal with. We've spent over 5,000 with them over the course of several visits, but as you can see, we've had an awful lot of work done and feel that it was reasonable. I do keep using them, because I trust them and their work. I'm very glad to have been referred to them for the extensive work we ended up needing when we moved. Oh, the work I named was at the new house. We also had them replace the electrical box at the old house (required to by buyer). It was #1,185 to have them do that and they did all of the coordination with the Electric Company. They honor their coupons here on Angie's list. Can't say enough about how important that was to us at the time. Great company!

Easy to schedule and arrived very promptly. The tech started off by telling me that I had almost been bumped because the owner's friend had wanted some work done and that he probably wouldn't have arrived to my house until 11 pm. Umm, ok. He installed the outlet for the dryer and replaced an outlet so it could be grounded for the washing machine. They are installed very nicely and work great. I know the plaster and concrete was giving a bit of trouble but it looks great. My only complaint is that he left for over an hour to "grab stuff from the supply house" when he returned he was very visibly tired and jittery. Very nice man but the professionalism was a little lacking... The work I wanted was performed & done well but the entire experience left me a little uncomfortable. I don't know if they would be my first choice for future work.

All requirements explained in advance and cost estimates adjusted based on site survey and agreed to before beginning work. Four and one half hours of union scale labor and two new breakers drove cost however, all done to code and met requirements for following on installation of drain and sump system.

I had three minor issues to address. The worker showed up on time. He plugged in an alarm clock to an outlet that had been tripping the circuit and found no problem. Second issue was a light in a closet that was not working in the basement. Third I had a dimmer that was not working that was also in the basement. He was in the basement over a half hour. He came up stairs and told me that the connection in the light socket was bent and be bent it back to make the light work. Then he told me that he did not have a cream colored dimmer switch on the truck and he would have to go get one. I agreed as Home Depot was 4 minutes around the corner. 40 minutes later he came back and sat in his truck another 7 minutes before coming in the house. He spent another 20 minutes unscrewing and replacing the dimmer. At which point I heard a lot of "hammering" downstairs. Hammering on a screw light switch??? The cost... $282.00!!! He said it took two hours work at $90.00 and hour and $65.00 for the service call. At which I at least would have thought the $65.00 went to the first hour credit. He charged $37.50 for the dimmer switch. The whole service was a rip off. I felt he was running out the clock.

I think they have qualified people that do good work. They show up on time. The prices are pretty much online with electrician prices these days. I think they're reliable. I had them out two or three times in the last five years and never been disappointed. I haven't needed electrical services that often. I don't know what's the going price; I haven't shopped around. I usually find people who can come out within a reasonable amount of time. Each of the two or three times that I've had them, they were able to get out within 24 hours. I haven't used other people for a long time. The companies name I can't remember. They did some outdoor lighting, plumbing. Their prices were kind of high. If the person doesn't use them very often, you just don't know the going rate. Everybody knew what they were doing very well. There was no need to come back a second time. Another instance where the guy put up an electrical fan in the ceiling on the outdoor porch. He showed some real insight how to get that done very well so there was no wobble problems or things like that.

It went slow, but ended well. The initial bid was $300, but once it was found that the lights were not wired as expected, we worked out a fair price to get the job done. There were setbacks because the tenant could only have power off on weekends. We worked that out, then with the light problems, and their busy schedule, it was hard to get them in to finish. They fit us in when they could, and about 2 weeks later the work was done. The electrician, Dan, was very knowledgeable, and Gina was quite helpful at their office.
