For those of you considering hiring Mapped Out Fencing and Construction (Avery) (he also may call it Mapped Out Fencing and General Construction; they’re the same), you should know the following: He is unlicensed; the state revoked his license (you can verify for yourself on dopl.utah.gov by searching his company name, or license number 11753337-5501). Even him talking to you and giving you an estimate is illegal, and he’s aware. Whether intentional or by a series of bad life choices, he abandons projects, does incredibly shoddy work that you will have to fix yourself, lies regularly to get out of work, and will eventually disappear. Weeks will turn to months without a word, with work always unfinished. Not to mention his volatile behavior, and inability to communicate with his clients. I’ve spoken about him with DOPL (Department of Professional Licensing in Utah), his supplier, and many parties involved. For those who have worked with him before, they know the drill, they’ve seen it again and again from this guy. DOPL knows him by name. I’ve had people reach out to me to warn me about him, though it was too late by the time I found out as I’d already paid him. Save yourself, do not hire him, please. For those who have already paid him already and found this out too late, I’m very sorry. But you’re not out of luck. Here is what you can to do (I am not qualified to give legal advice, but I gathered this info in several conversations with my lawyer, take it for what it is: a stranger’s opinion): 1. DO NOT PAY HIM ANYTHING MORE. He may ask for more money, or try to make you feel bad for “ripping him off” because he didn’t know how hard the job would be. Don’t pay him another penny. He saw your property, he made the estimate, you both signed it. Not another penny. 2. Call him and text him over and over until he picks up. Ask him for a timeline to completion. Record the phone call, or however you talk to him. Tell him you know he’s unlicensed, and if he does not complete within that timeline, you will file a complaint with DOPL. Don’t fall for his excuses (hospital, car crash, DUI, rehab, sick, I heard it all). Stick to the timeline, then file a complaint with DOPL. They will fine him generously and ask the police in your area to press charges. This will go on his record as a Class A Misdemeanor. 3. After a few weeks if he’s not doing the work (or not doing the work well, or if you feel unsafe with him on your property) you can provide these options: 1. Full refund, minus the work and materials he already did. Call Vinyl Industries (one of his suppliers), you can ask them how much each material item costs. A pallet of concrete is about $5 a bag. 2. Ask him to drop off the materials you paid for, and you’ll let him walk away from the job, but only if you think this is fair to the amount you paid him already. 3. You can take him to small claims court. Tell him he will be served papers. He will lie and tell you he’s not good for money, or you’ll be wasting your money, or for some reason you wouldn’t win. That’s a lie, there’s a lot you can do actually. 4. If enough time has passed without him making any progress, you can take him to small claims court. If you decide to take him to court, it’s about $100 (Avery will be forced to cover when he pays up). Have screenshots of every text between you two, record any phone conversations, have records of payment, and literally everything else. That’s all you’ll need. If he doesn’t show up to court (which is likely), you’ll win automatically. 5. If he decides not to pay what he essentially stole from you after the court orders it, you can fill out a Writ of Garnishment with his employer. Because he has a day job (at the time of writing), you can give this to his employer and they will cut the amount he owes you from his paycheck and give it to you. If this isn’t the case (if he’s unemployed, or this proves difficult) you can give it to his bank and they could do the same thing. Make sure to do things right, there are state reps in their respective offices who can answer any questions you have. By and by you’ll get your money back. 6. Leave honest reviews everywhere his business is located. Say it how it is, try to bring awareness and warning to others who may fall victim this sort of scam.

This has been a horrible loss. My neighbors and myself were doing fencing together. Avery from mapped out fencing took 1/2 down from both of us, almost 10,000 in total. He has not returned to do the job. Do not hire this company, you will lose your money. If you look at his reviews here, Facebook, and Google he has a response and excuse for evey bad review. I believe the 1 or 2 decent reviews he got came from himself. The few fence posts he installed were off the lowest quality, even though we asked for high quality materials. He also installed them all over the board, in measurements. if we were to leave them, every panel will range from 60 to almost 90 inches. Please warn others, I don't want to have any one else go though what we have. Hated giving him even one star, but only option.

"I only use the same high quality product any other company does. They only placed there deposit at the end of April for 2 huge jobs. The lists are set as they need to be. I came out and set posts on both jobs while putting off other jobs before there’[Member Information Removed] that I’m now behind on because they were gonna pour concrete and it did t even get poured when they said it would. They still have posts at there property that I’ve delivered that are waiting to be set by me but if they choose not to wait that’[Member Information Removed] on them not me"

I will not hire him again, we had a conflict with the contract I signed and he didn't show up the following day to do his work. He was very unprofessional and I regret hiring him.
Response from Mapped Out Fencing and Construction LLC
"I’m sorry that you feel we were unprofessional and not timely. We were there for two days in a blizzard conditions in the mud as well a foot deep getting your fence built. In my professional opinion it looked amazing I also came out and fixed a rock on the Home that had fallen off that wasn’t my fault and a small section of the fence it was an easy two second fix and I’m sorry that you feel when tools are running and I’m working and I can’t hear you that you’re being ignored and I’m on professional sorry that your experience with this way but I thought it looked great and was very professionally done"

It was challenging they did a good job despite of everything getting done the work and they know what they were doing. About the time management and it took longer to finish the project it supposed to be finish in two weeks and they ended up finishing in 3 months and they have a fair price.
Response from Mapped Out Fencing and Construction LLC
"Thank you so much for your business. We apologize the timing wasn’t exactly as discussed this was a lot to do with demand for material. Thank you for noticing our expertise."
