It was just over $500. Actually, it?s my son?s house, he paid for it. That included the price of the toilet, it was special order, and they are always substantially more than you can get out of the store. That was our main cost, the toilet itself.

I thought they did very well. I talked to other ones that didn?t really know how to handle the problem and one wanted to chisel out the floor. This was the only one that seemed knowledgeable enough to put in a thicker ring. I thought they were very professional, they were in and out, they worked quick. Price was reasonable, it was more than we were planning on spending, but considering the special circumstances, I guess it was mid-range. I can?t say they were cheap, but you get what you pay for.

All around, Marshall Handyman Services did a fine job with our fence. They were the least expensive out of all of the bids we received, and provided quality in service. One year later, the fence functions well and looks great.

The only glitch was when a scheduled worker got hurt just prior to coming to my project. I was notified right away that they wouldn't be able to keep there appointment with me which I really appreciated.

The initial quote was quite vague, but a price that I thought was fair. Things got delayed (my fault) and I did some of the work myself to lower the cost. It took months to get Marshall Handyman Services reengaged. When they finally did, I suggested that they come out and update the quote and get more specific. The owner, David Marshall, declined, saying that I should just tell his guys what do and "we'll settle up at the end". It took them twice as long as I expected. As we entered the second week of work, I left a message stating that I didn't have a blank check and that we needed to get more specific about costs. I never heard back from the owner. Be warned: the workers are "handymen" and not professional electricians or plumbers. They made several mistakes during the project that cost me time and money to fix (i.e., wrong gauge wire, wrong switches, wrong sized drain, etc.). Eventually I got a bill for over twice the original quote. After negotiations, I still ended up paying $2000 more than the original quote (and they did less work than was listed on the original quote!).
Response from Marshall Handyman Services
"This was an unfortunate incident where we had hired an estimator to represent our company and as it turns out he was not getting all the details necessary at the onset and consequently lead to trouble with the owner of the home. It was our understanding that the owner was going to jack hammer the basement concrete floor and have the earth removed so it was ready to run the plumbing drain pipes. When we arrived he did not have enough of the concrete broken up and the little bit of earth dug out was about one quarter of what was necessary to get the drain lines hooked up where they needed to be. I had a conversation with him about this and let him know we would have more labor involved than was originally planned for. The earth that was under his concrete floor is all hard packed clay, that great stuff that sticks to your shovel when you try to dump it in a bucket, we had to haul all of it up the basement stairs and out to a trailer to dispose of it. To get to the drain lines we had to hook into we had to dig down 30". The estimate called for installing one wire to the sauna stove. As it turns out he wanted lights, switches and an outlet as well. The project changed from what was on the estimate sheet and along the way so it was difficult to get the pricing correct. We no longer have the estimator working with us for good reasons. If I had this one to do over I would have definitely handled it differently."

Ted Stoke, was great, right on the day he said, and he controlled his crew to my wishes!!

They work crew were there the same day I got the estimate. I was totally blown away, I had not even had a chance to clear off my deck as I was at work. The crew carefully took all the things off my deck and put them in my yard. They were there 3 days, and came back one more day to finish up the underneath trim work. The deck came out looking great! Very nice painting, didn't miss a single spot. Now my slab window under my deck is sealed up tight to keep animals from there and there is lattice covering underneath the deck

Great Job, I will probably have them back in the future as I have more things in mind.

Given that there was so much rainy weather in July and August, the crew was there as often as was possible. It took longer than expected, but it was not their fault.

They called to say they were running late but still arrived within 15 minutes of the original schedule. A few pleasantries were exchanged & then I showed them the problems & they got right to work. Kept us updated as far as turning the water off & such.
We initially thought that the kitchen faucet was a repair job but when it was discovered that it needed to be replaced they gave us several options for proceeding. Time was they were completely done & cleaned up within 4 hours. We've used Marshall Handyman previously & we were as satisfied as ever.
The quality of work was very good, and the workers were prompt and nice to work with. David Marshall is very easy to get ahold of and I think this is a real virtue compared to other handymen I have worked with in Duluth. They called around and found a spring to fix a very old window of ours that we have otherwise needed to replace. All of these were very positive aspects of the interaction.
My only negative comment is that one of the projects (the custom door) ended up being much more expensive than I anticipated. I think this was because one of the workers suggested something that we did not have in the quote, and I was just not prepared for the expense. I think that this is more of a communication issue than anything. I still highly recommend Marshall Handyman, but I would just be very careful to specify the price of anything if modifications are made during the repair process, especially if you are talking to an employee and not David Marshall. Otherwise, good work.
Very nice people. Worked efficiently and thoroughly. Last bit of work is still in process and sometimes it takes a while to hear back from them, but it's been worth the wait. Would definitely use them again.
Marshall Handyman Services performed all of this work, and everything was very easy for us. Each time we called, Dave Marshall came out promptly to look over what was needed. Within a few days he gave us a complete estimate of the work to be done and the charge. I thought his prices were appropriate; generally no more or no less than I might expect. He also let us know the time frame in which we could expect the work to be completed. He was flexible and responsive to our requests. He did what we asked when it made sense, but also let us know when he thought there was a better approach.
Marshall completed the work and in all cases were were happy with the quality and appearance. Also, in the case of these three visits, the amount billed was never more than the estimate, and a couple of times somewhat less.
The $100 price cited was for the chimney cap and included the cap and installation.

They laid bedroom carpet which I brought from Minneapolis. They even stretched carpet in another bedroom that had not been laid properly by another company and the carpet had stretched out of shape. They worked very fast and were so pleasant to have on our home. I would highly recommend Marshall's to do anything in my home again. If this was how they handled such a small job, I'm quite certain they would be just as efficient with a large project. Their attention to detail and clean up was more than I expected. I'm very appreciative that I found them and that they made themselves available on the day I needed them. Many thanks
Dave is professional, friendly, easygoing and polite. The people who work for him are all respectful and nice. The majority of the work was high quality, and you always pay the price he quotes in his original estimate. I thought his prices were a little high until I started shopping around to other workers in town, then I realized a lot of them were extremely high. The last bit of work he did was on a brick part of our home exterior. It was incomplete and looked like a child's work, though the same workers did an excellent job on a stone patio and porch stairs area of our house. The clincher was the heat tape he installed on our roof was done so improperly, and we had terrible trouble with ice dams.
In fairness, I learned a lot about insulation and venting, and that heat tape wouldn't necessarily fix the problem. But in the interim, I did have to climb on my roof and re-do his crew's work in the cold.

From our first meeting we were impressed with the respectful manner & professional responses to our questions. When some of the original boards installed on the porch warped they didn't just replace the warped area they replaced the whole floor. When the original coat of paint was too gritty they quickly added another coat of paint to make it less gritty but still made sure it wasn't too slippery. It cost a little bit more but the original concrete steps were replaced with new wooden ones that had a safer "rise" & looked better with the new railings. We've been very pleased & will definitely use Marshall services again.
