I do NOT recommend McDowell Hardwood Floors. Steve quoted me for a job that he estimated would take about 4 days. He sped through it in two days and did not adjust my final bill even though he said he would since the job was much quicker than anticipated. Based on the cheap product he used, the final floors developed a green tint in some of the floor boards. He told me in the initial quote that he would be using Bona products which was not the case. The green tint is very noticeable and ruins the look of the final floors. I confirmed with another hardwood floor specialist that the green tint is caused by tannin bleed which is a chemical reaction due to the cheap polyurethane. In hopes of resolving this issue, I have contacted Steve via voice message, email, and text and he will not return my calls. It has been a couple weeks at this point. There are also several small holes that were left unfilled and spots around the trim that were sanded very poorly. I am very disappointed with the service Steve McDowell provided and I would encourage others to choose a different company.

Overall great experience with this company. They refinished hardwood floors on a historic building of ours. The job was done in the timeframe provided, price was right and communication was great. We are so happy with the floors, they turned out even better than we expected. Definitely would highly recommend!

I needed expert advice when a painter scratched and gouged our wood floor by moving a piano. Turning to Angie’s list I found McDowell’s Hardwood Floors. Steve McDowell promptly answered my call and made a visit to our home the following day. After assessing our floors and the damaged area we decided the best course of action for us to screen and re-coat in low gloss finish. Due to the nature of our project and Steve’s timing he was able to the job in the same week - which made us very happy. When doing the second coat, the finish was plagued with debris and required a third and fourth coat to get the floors near perfect. Steve was diligent in working through our issue and the end product is better than we expected.

All I can say is "Wow!" Steve was so professional! The job is the best ever. The floor looks brand new. The scratches, spots, and warp are gone. Steve was quick, polite, and knowledgeable. If the floor needs to be refinished in the future, I'll definitely call McDowell's. He even cleaned up after himself! This is a professional I can highly recommend!

Steve was very helpful in solving our stain color dilemma. We had one glitch that was exacerbated by our being on west coast with 3 hour time difference during the project. It was very quickly resolved upon our return and we are very pleased with the results

Absolutely wonderful!!! Steve McDowell and his assistant were very professional, personal and extremely knowledgeable regarding sanding and refinishing hardwood floors. I am extremely happy and my floors look great!!!! I would definitely refer Mcdowell Hardwood to others. They are the best!!

They are a busy crew and booked my job for about 5 weeks out from day of estimate. My floor had lots of small to medium separations between the pieces but they troweled in a filler that did away with nearly all of that and then sanded well with attention to keeping dust down with covers and a temporary plastic room barrier. I was torn between natural and a darker stain and Steve gave me his opinion that he felt natural was the better choice and I am so glad I went with that advice. Three coats of polyurethane followed the sanding and I am still enjoying the heck out of how it looks. They did extra work off adding floor transitions where oak met tile, but that made the initial estimate rise, but I remain totally satisfied.

My floors look like better than new! I had older Oak floors with deep scratches from a larger dog and the finish was peeling. I would highly recommend Steve and as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Hubbell Briarwood will be giving all of my clients Steve's name and number! <br />

<p>Steve was quick to respond and came out for a quote within a couple days of my first call. His price was fair and comparable to a couple others I got around the same time.</p> <p>He originally quoted that it would take 3 days but got it done in 2! I had planned on getting a darker stain but he suggested I stick with the natural since the wood was in good shape. I am VERY happy that I stuck with the natural color, it looks fantastic! The floors were pretty beat up before and they look perfect now. As someone that really likes to plan things out, I appreciated Steve keeping me informed on what he was working on and the progress. </p> <br />

We recently purchased a new house and needed to schedule the floor refinishing in coordination with some tile work and general interior repainting, so it was important to us that we find a responsive vendor who could do the work on relatively short notice and would do a top-notch job. Steve McDowell handled the whole job in a timely and professional manner. We were traveling for part of the time and Steve managed his own time and schedule, but got everything done when he had committed. Overall, the refinished floors look great and we are completely happy with the job.

Steve and Jason were both very professional and knew the business well. The project started and ended as scheduled, although it took an extra day. The extra day was because Steve felt the floor needed an extra coat (of something), which I appreciated given the amount of traffic and wear that could be expected on the new floor. The color and finish are beautiful! I would recommend them without hesitation. <br />

The process was very smooth, Steve came in and refinished my floors in 3 days. I was told by other contractors it couldn't be done and that they didn't want to touch my floors. Steve came in and was confindent he could do the job. What a beautiful job Steve and his employee's did. Mcdowells price was more than fair and cheapest of all bids. I am more than satisfied and would recommened MCDOWELLS to everyone.

Steve did a great job. The floor looks great, people that didn't know we had carpet in one area would never know. Friends that have come over since the flooring was redone are shocked at the quality. <br />

I contacted McDowell's Flooring based on Angie's list reviews. They came out the same day and provided me with an estimate and I was pleased with the thorough explanation that Steve provided. I liked his experience and knowledge. He told me what he thought should be done (re-coating versus total refinishing), what the process was and how long it would take to be totally reset. The price was not cheap, but I did feel it was fair. He was flexible in working with me in scheduling. McDowell's was easy to work with and I feel confident they will stand behind their work and want to provide good customer service. They did a nice job on the floors and I am very happy with them. <br /> <br /> I would hire them again. <br />

The job required 75 boxes of bamboo, including 15% for overage. Mr. McDowell used 15 boxes in addition to the 75 required, and when asked what happened to the 15 boxes, he became enraged, stating he was not responsible for the extra 15 boxes. I was hoping to return the extra bamboo, but now I am responsible for paying for a product Mr. McDowell claims he scrapped, which is unaccounted for--an extra $975. <br /> <br /> The trim for the floor was very poorly installed, there are huge gaps in wood, use of broken strips and chipped and missing pieces around doorways. There are white scratch marks and scuff marks from the hammer that was used. Mr. McDowell was not present for most of the job, but paid a young man $10/hour to do most of the work, according to my son, who also helped Mr. McDowell with the job. <br /> <br /> Although I attempted to pay Mr. McDowell upon the completion of his job having deducted the $975for the bamboo he damaged, he refused my $1497 payment. He threatened me and said he would tear up 'his' floor if he did not get his full payment. He refused to return my house key. <br /> <br /> He was extremely unprofessional, and was not able to install the floor adequately. I would not recommend his services to anyone interested in a quality hardwood floor installation.

"I installed a beautiful floor for the member, she even stated she loved the floor in an email. The trim was installed correctly, I told her it needed to be painted and caulked, she is aware of this. She opened the windows, not me. There was not 15 boxes of extra wood, she doesn't understand there is waste in every install job. The job was to pay $3600.00, all she paid was $1,000.00 and I even paid her son to help out. I never threatened her she just wants a free floor."
