We purchased a Storage shed online and hired his services to assemble it.

To be fair, this storage had many many parts and screws, so it was a challenge, which is why we hired help.

He ended up spending 6 hours on it, and at first sight it looked ok, however upon further inspection we realized that he had not installed the rubber gaskets on the roof screws and water was leaking in, also he left a open gap in the back side, and in order to fix that it would require to tear the whole thing apart and reaseemble again, so we opted for covering the shed with a tent and write off our losses

For this reason, I would not recommend him again, because I believe at some point he must have noticed the unit was not assembled properly but since he had already spent a lot of time on it he decided to finish up and hope we didn't notice.

The work provided was fine. The professional nature of the contractor is lacking. I had a family member meet the contractor to perform the work. The contractor did not acknowledge the pre-paid angie's list deal. The contractor charged our family in cash for the work provided (leading to a double charge since we had already bought his services through the portal.) We have contracted the contractor several times to make arrangements for him to do extra work to reconcile the hours worked vs. dollars paid. He has not returned calls. (He did however pick up the phone when I called from a friends office...) He has not called to handle this situation after angie's list has asked that he do so. Use this guy and if things go wrong - it is on you.
Response from McGuire for Hire Handyman
"I apologize for any inconveniences. I did 4 1/2 hours of work, but only charged you for 4 hours. You requested 2 people for work, and it is listed on the Big Deal that you purchased that we charge $50/hour per person. Again we apologize, for any inconvenience but we completed all the work we were contracted to do."

They did a great job. Bret and his assistant were both friendly and got to work right away to check off everything I had on my list. The pricing is a little misleading. Since there are 2 of them, the $199.00 for 4 hours, is really $199.00 for 2 hours and Bret's assistant doesn't handle the big items, but just does the little jobs preparing Bret to do the work. So just understand that you are only getting 2 hours of work. I ended up having to pay $50.00 more so they could finish installing my ceiling fan, but I was told about the price adjustment before they started on the fan, so there are no surprises in their cost. I will use them again because they got a lot done in the 2 1/2 hours they were here and were very pleasant also.
Bret was helpful and efficient. The helper was also efficient. I would have liked to have better cleanup, but this was VERY minimal.
I contacted this person thru Angie's list and he responded within a couple of hours. Gave me his phone number and I called him this morning. He was busy today, but said if he finished early he woud come check it out. He got here about 3:00. He worked very efficiently...knew what he was doing and got it done in a very timely manner. He was very pleasant and I will definitely call him again when I need something done.
This gentleman was scheduled to come out and help us around the house with all sorts of "honey do list" type of items, but due to the heavy rains we had experienced, we experienced severe leakage from our roof into our kitchen and master Bedroom. He went up into our attic and traced the leaks to the origin where a roofing company had performed repairs and it had been inspected. We called the roofing company to ask for help only to get argued with (Peggy from Duncan Roofs has no clue what customer service is), so he knew the president of the roofing company, personally called him without our knowing, and had the president of the company get us on the schedule in 48 hours to address all the damage and repairs. WOW!!! What a wonderful advocate!
He installed a safe for us and put it exactly where we wanted it, after another handyman told us it could not be placed there.
He is responsive, capable, communicative, professional, helpful, and the quality of the work was outstanding. He had caulk, screws, tools- even things that we were prepared to provide in the fine print.
While it would have been more money to him, he actually advised us NOT to do some of the repairs until the roofing company could see the damage so that the extent of the leak damage could be assessed. He has been great and we will definitely offer him more work!

I purchased the $99 for 2 hours of handyman service on 6/25/15.This was the second time that I had selected the deal. He was unable to come until 7/15/15.

Bret was scheduled to arrive at 1 pm and made it to my unit at 1:50. He had an assistant with him and introduced her as Cindy. We were not expecting 2 people but thought he was bringing her to learn the ropes. Bret got to work on fixing the towel rack and when that was completed, he changed out the kitchen light fixture. He then started on the desk. At 3:20 pm he told me that since he had his assistant with him, the 2 hour services that I purchased would only be good for one hour. I would have to pay an additional fee for the 2nd hour. I asked him why he needed to bring her to do these minor things. He said that he needed her for a previous job and couldn't leave her in the truck. I asked why we couldn't have scheduled my jobs for a different day when he could do the work by himself and he said that since he had hired her, it wouldn't be right not to take her along. At the end of the visit, he agreed to only charge me an additional $50 dollars for the second hour.

I had purchased the 2 hour deal before and was impressed with his work. He kept to the price that was previous purchased. Unfortunately, since his fees have gone up to $100 per hour due to hiring an assistant, I won't be able to afford him anymore. His assistant does not seem to have the same skill set as Bret does but is expecting to be paid the same $50 hourly rate as him. Bret still does good work however.

A few days after he did the job the curtains fell down and I have not been able to reach him at all. He's not returning any of our messages. I am very, very unsatisfied with the work he did and his lack of professionalism.

Bret finished doorknobs with ease and, as we no longer wanted garage shelves installed, we began to isolate numerous small tasks that had been niggling us: finish off an outside light fixture and remove/cap two fireplace gas fixtures. Each job was performed with a 'can do' approach. Further, in discussing a future chimney flu project we've had trouble finding someone to do, we found that Bret can tackle it when the weather promotes climbing around on the roof. Bret is now our 'go-to' home handyman. He is friendly, competent, and reasonably priced (just be forewarned that for the distance he travels, a 2-hour minimum $$ is involved).

But here's the best part: I asked if he could also house paint. I contracted him for the job (made my life way easier!) and he painted the exterior of the house, plus door, shutters and eaves for an excellent price. He brought a terrific team of 3 with him: courteous, quiet and really good workers. I needed for them to work fast b/c I had a due date to put the house up for sale, and they finished the job in a day and a half. Neighbors were so impressed they approached him for his business card b/c they too needed house painting. You'll never go wrong with Bret Perry and McGuire for Hire... they were terrific to work with! Thanks again Bret!
