I would do business with McMaken again because of the quality of work which is very good but I am aware of frustrating problem in getting the job done. The contract was signed on May 1,2012 with the understanding of 6-10 weeks out to start. I am familiar with potential delays so more than 10 weeks would not have been unreasonable but the job did not start until November after many e mails and excuses. This then did cause me to question my decision if this company would be responsible and did I risk some up front money. Even during construction there were delays due to the contractor juggling jobs. James Mc Maken did an excellent job on this room addition and I believe him to be honest and he is courteous and nice on a one to one. I believe a termination clause is appropriate with this type contract, that a minimal good faith money down payment is enough and be clear on what the contractor is responsible for such as getting other sub contractors. I would not hesitate to have a room addition done by this contractor again but I would be more informed. The product is excellent, the room is tight with minimal temperature change. Only in the evening a small radiant heater is used even with the temperature in the teens to twenties, I wanted an All Season room with a glass ceiling and feeling of being out in the open yard/woods and I have that. The moonlight at night on the yard and snow is beautiful.

We had originally traveled to Cincinnati to pick up the panels for another contractor.  When it appeared that the other contractor was bailing out we spoke with James to see if he would travel to Columbus to do the job. We were very grateful that he chose to help us out!  James and his wife are extremely professional, reliable and represent the small business owners of our country in the most outstanding way. The price, time frame for the job and cleanup were all top notch. <br /> If I were moving to a new home, I wouldn't think twice about calling them to put on an addition!!

<br /> <br /> Because nobody but Mother Nature herself has control of the weather, our job got pushed back a bit.  But, we were kept apprised of when we'd be the next project and approximately what to expect time-wise.  There were times when it was too wet or too cold where they could not work... but even in the freezing cold weather, they still managed to stay well within our set budget.  We made a few change orders along the way, and so there were some additional work days.  These things happen and would never make me choose another contractor over McMaken - no matter what.  He will be "our guy" for all of our major home remodels and we're happy to work with him.   <br /> <br /> McMaken remodeled our breezeway.  They removed the two all glass, french door walls which were dry rotted and very energy Inefficient.  The crew is respectful and tidy.  They are all very friendly and are also pet friendly - which helped us as we have two very curious dogs.  He showed up when he said he would and worked late hours to keep the job on track.  As with any demo/remodel, there are always things that pop up unexpectedly.  James was very aware of these things and even though the scope of work became more tedious and labor intensive than originally planned, he maintained a positive attitude and a smile throughout.  His attention to detail is unparalleled and the work he did for us is even more incredible than what I'd imagined.I'd found a piece of leaded glass at a yard sale and I wasn't sure what I would do with.  When looking at the room, we have a window area where there was once an old casement window and frame.  I showed the pieced of art glass to James and he came up with the plan.  I couldn't be more pleased with the results.  Instead of an old casement frame with stained glass hanging inside it to *try* to take away the incomplete and rather ugly space... we now enjoy looking at our large piece of leaded glass with shelving and spaces for my plants to go - I truly cold not be happier with all of McMaken's work.  We had a patterned tile installed and he and his crew did and incredible job of aligning the tiles with others in adjacent rooms and with doors and thresholds.  If they aren't exactly aligned, then there's a beautiful threshold between rooms that match our hard wood floors.  We're saving our money for our next big project with McMaken - converting our 2 car garage into a fabulous master suite.  I look forward to working with him again at that time. If I had to list all of the items that James and crew did for us, it would be an incredibly long list... let's just put it this way, the final result far surpassed our expect ions from start to finish <br /> <br /> I don't have any actual complaints, however, because the office is so far north & west of Anderson, the work day would begin later.  We all thought it better that way as James doesn't want to sit in rush hour traffic wasting time when he can get her an hour later and have time to complete a few things at the office before having to make the trek.  So, the times were a little different than most, but the job was done beautifully and we have absolutely no qualms about referring McMaken to anyone and everyone looking for a good, very, very good contractor. <br /> <br /> Thanks for your time... We were trying to find somebody for over a year now to repair the paneling and to take care of the roof. We had a major roof issue with our sunroom. Originally we went down to Cincinnati to bring back a couple of panels for a four season sunroom. McMaken is a distributor for four season sunrooms. So we went down there and talked to James McMaken, the owner. We asked him if he ever did any work in Columbus. We were very impressed with him and it was a relief to be able to find somebody who would take care of the porch for us. So they came out a couple of weeks ago and took out all the shingles and put in the new panels. They also put new OSB boards on top of all the panels on the entire roof and re-shingled it. They also fixed some gutter issues that we were having. They are a family owned and operated business. They were very honest and it was kind of refreshing to work with people like that. Hopefully we don?t have any more issues, but if we have any more, then we will definitely use their services again.

They were really good. I spent $4000 or $5000 on that work. They came out and replaced every window in my house. They were friendly and the price for what they were providing me with was excellent. James is the owner and he is very much a perfectionist. He did not like the way one window was installed and he actually paid to replace it. I would tell others that I had no complaints about them and that they did a good job and the price was good. They are not the most punctual.

The finished porch and greenhouse were exactly what we wanted. Quality of work was excellent. The job took quite a while, mostly because it was all custom work. However, the job took longer than we had anticipated mainly due to weather and availability. What we didn't like was that most of the work took place on weekends. We feel it could have been done sooner if the crew had started early in the day instead of late afternoons. My suggestion to anyone considering this company is that you get a completion date before signing the contract.

Mr. McMakin did an outstanding job overall. The sunroom was completed on time under a very demanding schedule. The deck rebuild took much longer, but it was all custom work so that is to be expected. Mr. McMakin worked some weekends including Sundays to help make up for weather and supplier delays. Both projects were completed for the quoted amount. The best contractor I've worked with to date, by far.

He had installed the sunroom was 20 years back. The sunroom had cracks. We called him for servicing. He came and repaired it but it didn't work. Then he came for like three to four times and didn't charge anything till it was right. We are very impressed with him.

I would caution anyone considering these people. They do not follow up once the sales order is collected and the deposit is made. If you decide to use them be prepared to invest an incredible amount of time tracking them down and inspecting the work. Also, demand that they get a building permit. Everything that I have stated is a matter of legal record and I can provide the documentation to back it up. One of my favorites is an issue about the new foundation for the replacement sunroom. When it was brought up they stated that "they don't do foundations", my lawyer responded with the question "then why does this contract list a foundation cost?" Deal with them at your own peril.

From the beginning to the end the experience was a positive experience. They met at our house and measured the area. With the help of a laptop, was able to show us blue prints of the new addition. Next a visit to the show room to pick out design and sign a contract.

THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON DESIGNING AND BUILDING. IT IS EXACTLY AS THEY ADVERTISE. THE PRICE WASNT BAD EITHER.
