It was okay.

This handyman did a great job, he was very cautious with his mess and made sure that he was not dirty. They were very courtesy, nice, and professional. Every time they left for lunch or left the house they would let me know. They swept up all of their messes and didn't leave a mess and the end quality work was great.

We went with Micheal Douglas because someone personally recommended him. He did a great job.

This is about the 4th time we have used Michael.  He is the only provider we will use.  He is prompt, does a great job and his pricing is more than fair.  We also had him work at a relative's house to build a closet and she was extremely happy with his work.  Michael usually responds quickly to requests, but sometimes when he is extremely busy, it can take a bit for him to get back with you, although we have never had that problem.  He is a jewel and stands behind his work. <br />

We asked Michael if he could help out with our newly acquired but neglected home exterior.  The chimney was falling apart.  There was other wood damage where cheap materials were used.  The paint was peeling everywhere.  It was a big job.  While Michael was out to talk with us he provided clear, comprehensible, and knowledable feedback about what did and did not need to be done.   <br /> I told him he reminded me of my uncle who could do it all, repair antiques, or rebuild a chimney.  (It turns out Michale repairs antiques too).  Well, after a thorough onsite walkthrough of what we needed, Michael was quick to provide a written estimate (2 days) which contained all of the topics we had discussed on site, including sealing the leaking gutters.   <br /> After considering all of the bids, the people we had spoken with, we decided that it is always nice to have the same guy you start with be the one to lead the charge and actually do the work.  We considered it a bonus that his bid was in the middle, fair & competitive.  Michael slotted us into his schedule a bit over a week out; which is understandable as he really does it all.   <br /> The work began and bit by bit after several days we had a new chimney up, cement board for sure.  It wasn't but a few more days the other repairs were done and painting prep was done.  Then it was painted and one would never know the before, it was if the neglect had been wiped away with a washcloth.   <br /> Michael's work is efficient, even quiet in a manner that if hammers weren't going you wouldn't know that anyone was even around..and yet like little elves it all just gets done as anyone would expect.  His workspace is tidied every day, his assistants are focused on the task at hand.  There isn't much to say because it was all positive. <br /> Mr. Douglas is a kind, courteous, sincere, attentive man.  He'd have to be to put up with all of my peeking and questions the next day.  I would say that there were a few items where we had a different perspective about the extent of what needed to be done, which is my own desire to be sure I get what I want - And we did.  Where there were any questions or ambiguity we were able to work it out equitably, even to the extent that I sincerely think I got the better end of the deal as Michael really aims to please.   <br /> At the end of the day we had quality work, committment, and standards.  We would have Michael come back next time for sure because he is just a nice guy to talk with when the work is done. <br /> <br />

From beginning to end, Michael was extremely efficient and straightforward with his pricing.  After looking at all of the various things that we needed to do, he gave me a price for each individual task.  He had a very professional approach, and his responsibilities were lined out specifically in his contract.  I felt very comfortable with providing MED Handyman Services with a key to the property.  I was amazed at how efficiently he handled the various tasks.  We had had foundation work completed on our house, and that had left a noticeable gap in the fit of the sliding glass door.  We had a different company give us a $2,800 estimate to replace the sliding glass door and the adjacent windows.  Michael took the sliding glass door out and made adjustments to the rollers, and the gap was gone!  That alone saved us $2,800!  I will definitely use MED Handyman Services in the future, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.  I wish that all service people were as responsive and efficient as MED Handyman Services! <br />

Mike had jobs already lined up so we had to wait for him to finish those customers before he could start on our work.  We are so happy that we waited for him because we were extremely pleased and he was well worth the wait.  We changed the scope of the tasks on short notice yet he adapted quickly.  The outside work was of high quality despite the triple digit summer temperatures.  Mike is very polite, listens to what you say, and then will make suggestions as to how you can save $.  He helped us save $ with our shower fix and changing out the laundry room door swing.  His workmanship is very high quality.  His helper / brother, Franklin's painting skills exceed those of professional painters we have used in the past.  Franklin was equally competent and polite.  We will definitely be calling MED Handy Man Services back in the future for additional work.  I am glad I recognized the previous reviewer was totally in error and disregarded his statements completely when considering whether or not to call  MED Handy Man.  <br />

Took a little longer than we initially expected but Mike went above and beyond to ensure mold and mildrew shouldn't return and he replaced extra sheetrock not originally expected needing replacement.  He also retextured the entire kitchen so everything would match.  Very pleased with his work. <br />

Michael and his brother did a great job.  We had a door in our guestroom that opened to the garage.  As this is against code, we've been needing to have it removed and closed up.  A number of people I contacted acted like it was an odd request.  Michael knew exactly what needed to be done.  He was quick to respond to my inquiry and quick to schedule a time.  Overall, they did a great job - guests can't even tell where the door used to be. <br />

We had an emergency electrical and construction/repair job that needed to be done immediately.  Michael was booked already, but was able to get us over to his electrician who did have immediate availability.  This was a life saver.  Thanks! <br />

Mike and his team were excellent. He was super responsive from my first inquiry made on Angieslist. Mike even came up with a couple ways to save some money that other estimates did not. <br /> Mike himself was very professional, timely, punctual and the overall experience could not have gone better. Mike was very efficient but also a more "old school" craftsman. He really went out of his way to make the finishing touches and take time to make sure everything looked perfect. He redid a couple things and touched up paint (even in places where he was not working). <br /> Overall a great experience. <br /> <br /> <br />

We were initially impressed with Michael's professionalism on his first visit -- good communication, punctuality, focus on the problems, reality checking what was possible and what was most reasonable to do in each case. One by one, he listened, looked -- gave his full attention to our problems, explained what he saw, what he would do, and how he would approach it. (I liked that I could learn from him.) Later, the estimate he emailed me was precise, and he stayed in touch as we made choices and finalized the project list. Throughout the several-day work period, Michael and his brothers were again focused on what they were doing, but always gracious about answering questions. Without fail, they showed up when expected and communicated well. There were a few bumps in the road (e.g., unexpected rain; his supplier did not have his order ready on time and he had to pull items from the shelves, making him run a little late; the original concrete to be removed was thicker than expected and he needed additional equipment...), typical for this kind of work. Michael remained unfailingly calm and did an outstanding job of keeping me informed along the way. He is respectful of our time, as we try to be of his, which makes him very easy for me to work with. Along the way, Michael spotted another problem under the house (some critter-gnawed wiring), which he took care of. I expected that to show up as an addition to the bill, which he had every right to do; it did not. I expected some additional charge for the extra concrete and equipment needed; his price remained the same. I would not and do not ever expect this, but I was certainly grateful. <br />   <br /> I called Michael initially because he was local (Garland) and from his reviews, I thought I would be able to work with him. I decided to do business with him because I respected the way he approached the small gnarly problems in my small house -- with respect, knowledge, and creativity. I will continue to do business with him as long as he will have us :) -- he does his work the old-fashioned way -- thoroughly, efficiently, skillfully, thoughtfully. He does not cut corners. He educates me along the way. He communicates well. He seems to be a person of unusual character. We enjoyed having him and his brothers in our home and we will be enjoying the benefits of the quality work they did for us for a long time to come. (And yes, they did clean up every place they were working before they packed up to go home.) Thanks, all three of you. <br />

It went really well. Michael showed up on time, exactly when he said he would. He executed all of the steps as he said he would - no surprises. They were very neat and respectful of our personal property. They finished in about half the time of what was estimated. High amount of professionalism. I would definitely use Michael for this type of work and repair again in the future - highly recommended. <br />

The service turned out fine. They did a good job and had no complaints. We wanted to find a fix that was a little less costly which they were able to do.

The drywall/paint had been done by another contractor.  Some of the work was OK, but there were several joints that were uneven <br /> and cracks were developing in several places.  The paint on the ceilings showed striping.  The connecting door between the house <br /> and the garage had seen better days. <br /> Called Mike for an estimate.  He showed up punctually and emailed an estimate on schedule.  He suggested a new metal door <br /> to replace the connecting door, which worked out quite well.   He had the door lock re-keyed to match the front door..  As he and his <br /> brother were doing the job, he noticed several areas that were sub-par, but hadn't been included in the estimate.  He went ahead <br /> and fixed them without changing the estimate.  Some repairs required adding extra bracing from within the attic to support the <br /> drywall properly. <br /> Once the job was finished, he cleaned the floors and carpet in the rooms where the work had been performed, even though the first <br /> thing done was to spread tarps and drop cloths to protect the floors.  All debris was collected and placed in the appropriate refuse/recycle bin. <br /> The job was completed on time and with very high quality.  Mike and his brother were very professional and wanted to make sure <br /> that the job was done correctly. <br />

It went wrong soon after MED started in the morning of 10/31. <br /> MED had agreed 10/30 afternoon to provide a detailed bid/contract that matched our verbally-agreed specifications when both MAL and TGL separately objected to the vague, general bid he had made.  No such document was ever provided.  A number of other agreements were made and were not honored.  Full detail follows. <br /> The demolition was begun but with a major problem:   MED was told AND SHOWN how to use successive supports to hold the closet walls in place while the subfloor was rebuilt under them.  Instead, the South-wall of the closet was jacked up 1? into the ceiling over TGL's vigorous objection, and the East-wall jacked up ½? into the ceiling, resulting in multiple drywall fractures, the S-wall being pulled away ¾? at its bottom from the outer W-wall, the closet door no longer hanging properly, and the doorjamb busted apart.  This was done with the cavalier statement that ?this is the only way to do it? despite TGL having described and then physically demonstrated on the E closet wall how to retain the walls undisturbed.  "Don't worry, I'll fix it all back the way it was" was his assurance to TGL. <br /> In a 3.5h absence of TGL (11:30am-3pm), the demolition was finished and sealants applied inside and to the cracks+seam of the South wall and MED left for the day at 2:50pm.  These sealants were incorrectly applied and their warranties void:  Sikaflex self-leveling sealant for the cracks and seams requires 3-5 days to cure, and the manufacturer specifically warns that is must be left exposed to air during the cure time.  Instead, MED immediately applied Drylock to the retaining wall and on top of all teh Sika sealant.  Drylock requires a 3-hour cure time before a 2nd coat is applied, but the 2nd coat was applied and the MED team gone long before that. <br /> The next day (11/1), the Northernmost-joist (the 1st to be anchored despite TGL request that the new floor be built back as before, i.e beginning with E and W nailers) was incorrectly placed too high (TGL objections brushed off) to allow subflooring and flooring to fit under closet walls as it had originally, and much time and wood was consumed while MED built an unnecessary ?box? of doubled joists under the closet walls, which are NOT load-bearing but merely partition walls. <br /> The rest of the nailers were anchored to the retaining wall and were not quite level.  TGL pointed this out and MED said "as long as the bubble is between the lines it is level."  In fact, "level" is when the bubble is CENTERED between the lines, yet MED at more than one point considered "level" readings where the bubble was well into one of the lines.  The concrete anchors were irregularly placed, nor all sunk in to full depth.  Where there was too much gap or protruding anchor, MED assured TGL that extra anchors would be placed to bolster these weak spots.  NOT DONE. <br /> MED began affixing joists in the afternoon:  irregularly, at roughly 16" intervals for most, instead of 12", and TGL objected that the wrong screws, the wrong spacings, and not using hangers for all joists was not acceptable.  "I have 30 years' experience, and this is good enough" was the response.  MAL separately objected to the too-far and too-close irregular joist spacings, and was similarly brushed off.  Supports were placed under the joists irregularly and not attached as specified, objections heard and ignored.  The team left at 4pm with many joists left to do. <br /> On 11/2, in at least one observed case the joist was cut too long, would not fit, so MED hammered it as hard as possible and affixed it anyway.  The result is at least one joist that is 20" from the previous joist at one end, 17" at the other, and bent by affixing 3 17" cross braces along its length.  Other joists are within just a few inches of each other. <br /> The supports were placed irregularly under each joist, leaving one side's unsupported span longer than the other.  The use by MED of cross-braces (nailed instead of screwed) only partially mitigates the resulting uneven load distribution. <br /> Finally, untreated, low-grade plywood was installed, badly (many cliffs and mountains at the seams), instead of the specified PT plywood with a smooth even surface.  The busted drywall seams and cracks, the closet doorjamb and door hang were NOT fixed. <br /> On the whole, very sloppy and slapdash work with a weaker floor than designed. <br /> We tried to meet with MED the morning of 11/6 at 9:30.  He spent about 2 minutes talking with MAL, who had barely begun describing our dissatisfaction, then left.  MAL called to him as he was getting in his truck, and he replied "I'll be back."  That was at 9:50am.  We tried his phone and left messages (he always answered before), and this review is being written at 3:15pm with no return call or show by MED.

<br /> Michael contacted me within 24 hours of calling and leaving him a V.M. requesting a possible 'bid' on finishing out my 'shop'.  He came out within the next few days (which happened to fall on a Saturday morning) to go over everything.  He was extremely professional and knowledgeable which helped me make some decisions that I had not thought about, but would have needed to have done. <br /> I received a bid within a few days which was quite reasonable.  I made a few changes and contacted Michael and requested a 'new' bid which I received the same day. <br /> Work began on the day we agreed on and the time we agreed on.  Changes were made as the work progressed with an understanding between Michael and myself that there would be a change in the bid which was acceptable to us both.  Michael put in  full days with 1 other person 'helping' out the first 2 days, and then added more 'helpers'  as needed.  The job was basically completed in 4 days.  <br /> Overall, it was an incredible experience!  I was extremely happy with the job and experience.  YES, as long as Michael keeps working and I have the monies, Michael will be the one to do whatever 'work' I need to have done.  He is extremely pleasant to work with and miticulous in his work ethics.  Thank you, Michael and crew!! <br />

Mr. Douglas appeared on time, did a good job and both my renters and I are quite happy with the job. He did not deviate from his estimate.  There were no additional upcharges.  He finished in just a tiny bit over the estimated time.

He was very professional. He did a great job. He was on time and very responsive. He is a good guy.
