They did a great job! Bill and his crew arrived on time, were well organized, and everyone knew what to do as they split up and went to work. Workmanship was great, they cleaned up every day, and carted away any debris. Bill was there every day, and checked in several times a day to make sure all was well. They even pressure washed the deck, which really needed it, and fixed several sprung boards. Doug even helped fix a patio door that had trouble closing, and repaired and painted a window flower box. Few was great, friendly, and hard working through the sun and the heat. I would highly recommend MHI, and Bill and his crew. Job looks great as I sip coffee on my deck, great craftsmanship!

Bill and his crew were absolutely amazing and did a fantastic job on my house. They were passionate about the job and made sure things were done right. They were very professional, punctual, and hardworking. They work very efficiently and finished the project in a very timely manner. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work that they completed. I will definitely be reaching out to them for future projects!

-- MHI Painting did a great job with my project from estimate to completion. Mike was willing to explain what he wanted to do and why he wanted to do it. I’m not a DIY person, so hearing his explanations helped me understand his proposal. -- The job consisted of repainting kitchen and family room in the same colors which I really liked but were old and needed freshening. Billy took switch plate covers to the paint supplier to get a match. It also included painting new wood trim around a recently replaced patio door. The workspaces painted included tray and coved ceilings. -- Billy’s team did an excellent job of painting and clean-up and showed respect for my property. -- This is the second time I have used MHI and they have now done both exterior and interior work for me. I was highly satisfied with both experiences. -- I have and will continue to recommend MHI to my friends.

MHI - Mike Jardine and his crew lead by Billy were the best. The house looks wonderful, the crew worked efficiently and finished the job in a timely manner - the clean up was perfect.

We started off by having Bill's crew come to seal the basement floor. The estimate was about what I was expecting to pay, and boy -- did we get our money's worth! The concrete was in worse shape than they thought, and Bill and his team spent a lot of time making my floor smooth and new-- far newer than a 100 year old home should have! We did hit a hiccup when I came home to a fair amount of dust all over my house-- Bill made that right, too, without making me beg, cry or swear. Beyond the skill and finished product, it is worth noting that getting an estimate, getting a contract, getting work started and completed -- all of that happened in a timely, professional manner. They were very thoughtful of my home, my cats, my bathroom. Because that went so well and finished on time, we got to talking about having the fieldstone walls addressed as the mortar had been repaired (poorly) over the years, and was turning to dust in other areas. He gave us a quote that we couldn't resist, and brought the team back just a day later to start working on the walls. The stone has never looked better-- I would argue that it looks artistic, just beautifully mortared and sealed so that it will always make the colors of the stone shine. Being a caring craftsman, Bill also took care of other extraneous details -- he painted drain caps to match the floor (even though we bought them well after that work was completed). He also painted our 9 basement window frames and a rather eye sore-like door that stood out amongst the beauty of the work he'd done. All in all, Bill and his team are kind, diligent, efficient, artistic, thoughtful, thorough, timely and committed. We have a long list for his crew in the years to come.
Response from MHI Painting
"We can't thank you enough for taking the time to write such a thorough and kind review. It was such a pleasure working with you on your home projects. We love to hear how excited and happy you are with the outcome of the two projects. Bill and I look forward to working on more projects with you in the near future! Thank you very much for choosing MHI Painting for your projects! Kind Regards, Michael Jardine & Bill Marrow"

MHI repainted my house in the fall of 2016. They initially did a sloppy job while going 40% over the initial estimate. But in October 2019 they came back out to fix some problems with the earlier work and to perform some additional work at a very reasonable cost. The crew that originally painted my house is no longer with the company. Bill's crew performed the work this year, and did a much better job. Bill will have a prominent role in MHI going forward, so I am confident they will be a very different company than the one I dealt with in 2016. I'll likely have Bill's crew repaint the interior of my house when this is done in a month or so. While I gave the 2016 MHI poor grades, Bill earned all A's.

Very disappointed in their unresponsiveness to my many calls over the past seven weeks reminding them to follow up and finish a couple of minor items that were part of their written estimate! Based on my experience with them so far, I have very low expectations that they would actually stand by their work and honor their warranty. Word of advise: If you hire them, make sure everything included in the job is completed to your satisfaction before paying in full.

Great experience from start to finish. Tim did a good job with the estimate, explaining what he would do, the materials he would use, and why. MHI was not the low bid, but Tim's professionalism with the estimate made me confident that MHI would do the job correctly. We experienced a massive fishfly invasion the day Tim's team came to do the painting. Tim decided to take the removable pieces back to the shop to do the work. (This meant adding a round trip from St Clair Shores to Troy to the job). They used blowers and built a plastic tent around the one load bearing post that could not be removed to keep it fishfly free during the process. The repainted shutters and porch trim look great!

They did great work Bill’s crew was the best they got in and knocked it out fast. Owner fair guy and professional easy to work with. Bill and his crew were great at Problem solving and made sure things were done right. Very pleased. Fair cost but they were hired because i simply liked the owner Mike and felt I could trust him. I was right the bonus was he had all great people working for him. We will use them again!

Job included paint and carpentry on a 2 story Tudor home. Accepted 5 bids, we chose MHI due to their ability to handle all of the carpentry work required on the Tudor stucco panels and boards. The quality of the painting was excellent overall. While I always expect to follow up with a little touch up or extra coat here or there, I was impressed with how much attention was paid to the toughest parts of the job... in particular, painting along difficult edges such as where existing caulk met brick, or where the tudor panels and boards meet. In my opinion, there is no reason to hire large overpriced companies or inexperienced college painters when you have companies like MHI around.

MHI Painting painted the interior of our house and did an exceptional job. We have hired painters in the past, and we now we know the difference between painters that slap color on the walls and MHI, who does superb work. MHI went beyond our expectations with the very competitive cost, the superb quality of their work, and the short amount of time the large project took. The painters were genuinely nice people whose main goal was to make sure we were happy with their work. The office staff was good about responding quickly. We will never use a different company to paint.

They could not do it in the day promised as they were short at least one or two painters. When they came back the next day they were short handed again and had to finish and go to another job - things got missed. The work they did was great, but things were not finished.

If there were a higher rating than excellent I would use it for all categories. Emailed late in the fall season to request a quote. Owner immediately replied to schedule appointment. Estimate was detailed including anticipated exterior repairs needed. Upon hire, full crew began and continued on job daily until completion. We were working out of town so owner communicated regularly with updates. Job quality was tremendous. Hope to hire again soon for interior.

I contracted with MHI to hang and finish drywall for a small basement remodel project – walls only, no ceilings, over bare studs and spray foam insulation. A very simple job by drywall standards. I’ve been involved in the Building Trades since I was a teenager so I realize that quality drywall finishing is much more difficult then it seems. I was assured by Dennis the Vice President, as we inspected the job site, that he had a highly skilled, experienced Crew and other than a couple small transition areas where the new work would meet the old work it was a simple job. MHI was actually the highest of the four bids I received but after Dennis assured me that he “would exceed my expectations” I chose them. Right at the agreed start time the crew arrived. The crew seemed quite disorganized and after a bit of chitchat I found out that that “Leader” had brought his wife along and the rest of the crew were “only there because it was too cold to power wash”. Not even close to the Professional Crew I had envisioned. At most I expected a crew of two not the six that showed. For day one the quality of the work was not that bad considering the chaos of six people in a small area, although they had broken the stairs and I had to provide a ladder since this crew did not have one. Day two brought a small crew of two and was quite uneventful although they did not hang plastic ( as agreed upon in the contract)to prevent the rest of the house from filling with dust. It was after they left and I did a quick inspection that things went further downhill. When cutting out around electrical boxes an 1/8 inch gap is standard. Any larger and the cover plates won’t hide it. You really only get one chance and if it’s screwed up the panel must be replaced. Imagine my horror when I found four of the boxes with gaps up to one inch (see the photos). I quickly called Dennis and he agreed to meet in the morning and inspect. The next morning he inspected it and made them remove the complete panels and replace them. Over the next two days work progressed but each night when I inspected I could tell I made a mistake in hiring MHI. The work was very amateurish. I then decided that I would let them finish and I would take over and try to salvage this job. I wrote them a check for the contract price and as soon as they were gone I started filling and sanding to get ready for paint. It was when I started spraying paint for an elevated display area that I finally lost it. I noticed something wasn’t right. I quickly found my Phone and looked at the photos I had taken of all the walls before the crew showed up. Sure enough, there were the two electrical boxes that they had covered with drywall and forgotten about. Had I not discovered this dangerous error and turned the circuit back on I would have had hidden, exposed live wires behind my walls. My question is: Would you feel comfortable living in a house with exposed wires hidden behind the walls just waiting to start a fire? Or since this wall backs up to a bathroom, a water leak electrifying the shower? This is a serious safety and fire hazard and there is no excuse for this level of carelessness. At first I thought this crew was amateurish and lacked the skill set to do quality work but now I realize they were also careless and a danger. I’m considering bringing in a crew to remove all of the drywall so I can inspect all the wiring and hire a crew to re-sheet the area. It would be expensive, but in the end it would be cheaper than having my house burn down or a member of my family electrocuted. Needless to say my expectations were not exceeded nor would I recommend MHI for any drywall work.

The entire experience went very well. Dennis Knoph responded quickly to my request for an estimate -- spending a lot time listening to my requests (like fixing holes in aluminum siding as part of prep) and addressing my concerns (like covering my roof solar panels to make sure no paint spray drifted on to them). He adjusted the written email quote a couple of times in response to other items (like no power washing in a breezeway). Unlike other companies that either wouldn't do the work or were hesitant about the outcome (like repairing holes in the siding), MHI was confident that they had the experience to do the work and could tell me what to expect. MHI did not disappoint. I also like the fact that MHI quoted an all-inclusive cost -- no unknown add-ons for paint, other materials, etc. MHI assign Bill and his crew to do the job. Bill is very knowledgeable and ran a "tight ship". They got the job done quickly and efficiently. Not only does the paint job look great, I appreciated all the extra things that they just handled as matter of doing the job that I was not aware needed to be done -- like filling some holes in a Pella sliding glass door that I knew had wood rotting but didn't expect them to do anything and providing completely new shutter fasteners since my 50-year old fasteners were in no shape to be used to put the shutters back up. After a couple of weeks, they came back promptly to my request to paint the inside of a storm door that everyone including myself had missed. I would have no hesitation in using MHI in the future for other work.

I was extremely satisfied with the job from start to finish. Dennis came out quickly to give me an estimate. We gave MHI Painting & Restoration the job and they were out when they said they would be. They did everything from pressure washing, caulking, painting and staining. Tom and his crew were professional and got the job done timely without any mess or disturbance of landscaping. Great crew, great work. I highly recommend them.

Bait and switch. Quoted one price in writing and then added on $300. At the very end time of payment. We feel if a contractor misquotes that is on him. We had an agreement ( in writing) on one price and he upped it He says I added on and that is not entirely true He knew extent of work from the beginning. Would not use or recommend to anyone. This is a very shady, unethical business practice.

I am so happy i went with Dennis and MHI. He brought me a crew that could do everything I wanted. Made sure I was happy all along the way. Even finished little things at the end just to my specifications. Two other companies wouldn't even touch my woodwork. Another wanted to charge double with open ended hourly fees. I am very happy with Picking MHI to address my 87 year old home and all its complexities.
