Inconstant quotes and did not call back as promised. I called and was told that the work would be $89 an hour. A guy showed up in an unmarked van and plain clothes. He was 4 hours late and didn't call until he was on his way (3.5 hours) but gave no ETA. Considering the nature of the job, I'll accept being late. He assessed my rusted vent and said it's best to install an AAV (Air Admittance Valve). He said it would cost $550+, which I assumed was based on how long it should take. He then went to Home Depot and purchased the hardware. He came back and put a cap on the vent, replaced the vent joint, replaced the sink trap, and installed the AAV under my kitchen sink. He told me it was "good to go" but I wanted to test it first. He filled the sink and turned on the disposal while I was in the basement checking for leaks. Water came out of the AAV, soaking the cabinet and leaking through the bottom and then raining down in the basement. He told me it must have been a loose garage disposal. After tightening it, we tried again, and the same thing happened. This time I watched the water come out of the AAV. He told me it was a "one-way-valve", so I asked how that was possible and he said the drain pipes under my basement must be clogged and needed to be snaked another day ($200+). In total, it was about 3 hours for the work. He called headquarters so I could pay over the phone and told me the charge would be $550 plus hardware. Thankfully the lady on the phone agreed that I was told $89 an hour. The plumber said he would call me "in a day or two" about having it snaked, but no call. I called back and was quoted a higher price for the snake. I was told I'd get a call in a couple days, but again, no call! I did some research on AAVs, and it turns out the plumber installed the AAV with the bare minimum height (4inches). Ideally, they will be installed above the top of the sink, OR as high as possible. The AAV could easily have been installed another 10 inches higher. I even called the manufacture and they said it should not be able to leak with a disposal running, and should be installed higher. It's possible my drain is clogged, but the AAV should have been installed much higher to lessen the risk of a leak, since drains are known to clog (duh). I also don't understand why it's so hard for them be constant with pricing and calling back. I noticed after this that the plumber has installed new joint in the basement in a way that leaves the stack at an angle, and thus the ceiling tiles don't line up properly with the stack. Oh well. Looks like I should have done all of this myself, as it's fairly easy stuff.

I contacted Michigan Plumbing and Mechanical to have my flange replaced on my toilet. I looked into doing the repair myself but after watching several youtube videos I decided it was a job best left to a professional. Contrary to what the owner would later claim, I was quoted $150 to have the flanged completely replaced and told it was a flat fee. The plumber that came to do the repair did not wear a uniform of any kind and arrived in a car that did not carry any company logo or advertising. He quickly removed the top of the flange and then began chiseling away at the sides of the pipe to remove the flange fragments. He used a hammer and chisel. During this process he chipped the flange in two different spots. At first he said nothing about this and kept working as if nothing happened. As soon as I pointed out the flange was chipped in two spots the plumber began to blame the thickness of my pipes. He said that because of the chips they would have to cut out the ceiling below the toilet and he would come back tomorrow to do so. That night I emailed the company and stated my expectations that they would pay for the drywall repairs and the cost to repaint the ceiling. I was stunned at the company’s response. They stated they would not pay for the ceiling repairs or paint. They also stated I would be charged more than the initial $150 dollars because of the additional work. They again blamed the pipes. After several follow up emails went unanswered, I called the company directly and asked for the plumber’s license number. Several minutes later I was on the phone with the company owner. The company owner was aggressive, hostile, rude, and unprofessional. He again put the blame on the pipe and said that chips happen all the time when trying to do a flange replacement. He demanded to know why I wanted his plumber’s license number. He ranted that people like me were the problem with America. I pointed out that if there were inherent risks to this type of repair, and that those risks could result in a substantial cost increase, than these risks should have been made known to me before work started. This was especially true since according to him chips like this are common. He admitted something should have been said to me before hand. Despite snide and sarcastic comments about doing work for free, the owner ultimately agreed to sending the same plumber back out to do the repair free of charge if I would accept the cost of fixing the drywall and paint. However, I felt so uncomfortable after our phone call I decided I did not want anyone from the company back in my home. Instead I paid a master plumber to come back out and do the repair. The new plumber agreed that my pipe was thinner than normal. However, he was of the opinion that a skilled plumber with the proper tools and patience could have done the flange repair without chipping the pipe. He also said that the plumber from Michigan Plumbing and Mechanical could clearly see how thin the pipe was once the top of the flange was off and should have acted accordingly. He said he should have never started hacking away at it with a hammer and chisel like he did. Needless to say, I would not recommend this company.

They quoted me an $89 service call and $89 an hour. When the plumber came, he looked at the job and called his supervisor who then quoted $650 for the work. The job was to move a gas line less than 4’. It would take about 2-3 hours AT MOST and the supplies would be under $20. I’d already had other quotes of $300-$400, but this company was the only one that could come the day after I called. It seems to me that they knew I was in a hurry for the work and tried to take advantage. Beware, Not a good experience.

"Sorry you feel our price was too high for the work you wanted completed. However, as you are well aware we charged you absolutely nothing $0.00 for the visit we made to your house to look at the work you wanted completed. We are properly licensed with the state to perform the gas work you requested us to perform. We have completed the scope of work you wanted us to perform hundreds of times in the past and are well aware of the time and cost associated with properly performing the work you requested. Hopefully the other prices you referenced included: properly performing the work by ensuring the new and existing work (already in place) was safe and installed correctly to code including the isolation and subsequent pressure testing of entire system as required by the fuel gas code after this modification would be performed. The extra cost is most likely accociated with the fact that we perform the required safety testing as we don't cut corners when it comes to gas work and our customers safety. Again, please remember that we provided you with a FREE no cost to you estimate for the work you wanted completed you spent absolutely NO MONEY with our company."

Great experience. Realized at 6 AM that our sump pump needed replacing. Called just after 7, they had their first guy come right over. Said he would be there between 8:30 and 9, and he was there before 8:30. He was done before 9. Great experience.

Water in the basement! I called Carlo at Service Experts. He was friendly, polite, and at my house within an hour. He installed a new sump pump, answered questions about a backup pump. Problem was solved very quickly.

I was referred to this company from Angie's List. When I called to make an appointment, I was greeted nicely and the appointment date & time was much sooner than expected. Carlo was the technician that came to swap out the rod in my hot water heater. He was professional, courteous, and finished the service quickly. I plan to use Service Experts in the future if I have another issue. I was pleased with the price and the service I received.

Initial call was handled professionally and politely. Thought I had made a good choice. Technician showed up on time and was friendly, at first. After inspecting the various jobs, he informed me that the equipment that needed service was not “Delta” and he probably couldn’t do a majority of the work requested. All of my faucets were from Home Depot so don’t know why that would be, but when he called his boss, I overheard the conversation and it wasn’t pretty. The manager or owner yelled and said “Well, if she buys expensive foreign stuff, she has to expect to pay a lot to get it fixed.” Well, I did pay a lot for 2 of 5 requested jobs, and their response for other repairs was that I needed to buy completely new equipment. I even provided an installation manual for one of the faucets, but it was not looked at. The determination was made that because it was not equipment that they were familiar with, they couldn’t help me. Very dissatisfied, and it’s taken me over 2 weeks to write this review because I was so angry (and still am).
Response from Michigan Plumbing and Mechanical Services LLC
"Sorry you are angry, the plumber onsite was simply being honest with you as to your situation. As for the "yelling" conversation you overheard between your onsite plumber and his manager, we'll yes the manager was yelling, probably very loudly because he was in a very noisy, operating underground mechanical vault repairing a 100 gal per minute emergency break for the city. Unfortunately the foreign fixture you are referring to in your review is a Ghroe. This brand is made in Germany and is one of the most expensive to buy parts for, (thus the reason the manager wanted to make sure your onsite plumber made sure you were aware it would be expensive) as the parts needed to repair this fixture are only available at one specific supplier and are quite expensive. As for the other fixtures you have, they are indeed delta, but when fixtures become overly corroded they are no longer able to be serviced (in this condition they almost always break during disassembly and will need replacement), as soon as the plumber noticed the corrosion on the fixtures he informed you of the need to replace them."

The first time I called Service Experts to come look at my leaking hot water heater, the guy who came out couldn't find a leak in my hot water heater (the pool of water had dried up) but noticed that the gas line feeding the hot water heater wasn't connected properly. I made another appointment for the following week to have the gas line fixed. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, Service Experts was late (they missed the promised time window I was given when making the appointment) but ready to work. This time another pool of water had appeared beneath the old water heater and he was able to determine that it was dying and needed to be replaced. They ran back out and had my new water heater in under an hour. <br> <br> The gas line was replaced while they swapped out the old water heater for a new one. All told it took about 4 hours to complete the work, and both guys were very professional (they cleaned up after themselves and hauled away the old hot water tank).

Carlo, the owner, showed up EARLY (yes, you are reading this correctly) on our scheduled day. We had all of the "stuff" removed from the furnace room and provided a good path there from the outside, but he still wanted to prep everything for his crew. They all worked tirelessly, did incredible work, did not charge us extra money for unforeseen whatever, removed the damaged water heater, and did not leave a mess. Any more questions? This is the company you want.

Purchased coupon deal and set up a time for the following day. The woman I spoke with was very friendly and helpful, and I was given a 5 hour window and was told the plumber would contact me 30 minutes before arrival. About 2 hours into the time frame I called to make sure they would still do the work that day so I could make arrangements for the next day if necessary. The owner was so pleasant and accomodating! He checked with his guy who was tied up on a job that took longer than anticipated. He called me back right away and said he personally would come out and do the work. He was at my house at the scheduled time, was very professional and friendly, and completed the work in a timely manner. There was no mess, he put covers on his boots when he came in the house, and he answered all my sump pump questions. It was a positive experience beginning to end and I will definitely use Experts Plumbing in the future for home and business plumbing needs.

After buying the offer on Angie's List, within a day, the owner emailed me asking when I wanted to have them come install the new sump pump. He was very accommodating with my schedule, and got it scheduled within a few days. The day of the appointment, the plumber showed up early and I actually was not home yet, and he waited patiently. When I arrived he was very courteous, he took off his shoes when coming in the house. He did the replacement of the sump pump, and tested it to show me it was working. Then he cleaned up the basement floor of water and mud that had fallen on the floor - left it as it was when he got there, and took the old sump pump out by the curb - it happened to be garbage day. Overall excellent experience.
