They sent a kid over that didn't know how to do the pump on a fountain. I didn't think it was fair because the kid didn't know how and then I had to call someone else out. I will never recommend them to anyone. <br /> <br />

Great design on paper. Horrible, Horrible installation and workmanship. I am now stuck with having to deal with lots of problems that were not there prior. They took rocks from a different retaining wall I already had for a decade and moved them to the retaining wall they were building because they were to cheap to bring in what they needed. It is terrible. Placement of plants are random and all over the place. I get mad every time I look at it! DO NOT USE THEM!!!!

<p>In my initial contact with the landscape designer, I was told the cost for the service was $75 and that it included pH testing of the soil.</p> <p>The designer failed to show up for my scheduled appointment on July 8, 2015, and neither she nor anyone from the business notified me. I spoke to the business on July 9 and they seemed confused about the designer failing to show up & assured me this was unusual. I rescheduled for July 14 and the designer showed up. </p> <p>We walked the perimeter of my house and the designer made suggestions for alternative plantings, including various suggestions for any one area. I asked if she would provide me a list of her suggestions, including alternatives, and she said she would do that and that she would get the information to me by the end of the following week (July 24). I called the designer on the afternoon of July 23 and left a message asking about her list of suggestions. The suggestions arrived by email on July 29 (5 days late & 15 days after we met) in the form of a rough, hand-sketched drawing with names of plantings indicated, but with no alternatives noted. </p> <p>The design included planting a 4' shrub between two 4' high windows, creating a 17' long, 4' high visual appearance which, from a design perspective, seemed obtrusive and unattractive. I questioned the designer about this and was told she chose the 4' high shrub for that location based on the height of corner shrubs. I understood from this response that the designer designed with plants in mind, not the house the plants were to compliment.</p> <p>The emailed information did not include soil pH information. When I asked about this, the designer told me she did not do testing because she decided it wasn't necessary. She did not adjust the bill to reflect this service not being provided. </p> <br />

Everything went very well. I had spent all summer trying to contact landscapers and waiting for replies that never came and finally, and fortunately, found Mickman Brothers. I dealt with Paul, who kept me updated on everything, even if he was going to be a few minutes late for an appointment. Our initial consultation was low key and he understood exactly what I was looking for and, importantly, what I was not looking for on this project at this time. I made one tree-choice change. The work was done, with just a 2-day delay, in a half day. The crew was very hard-working and courteous, and they did a great job cleaning up. <br /> I have already told Paul I'll be contacting him in the spring of 2015 for Phase 2 of our project. <br />

<p>In this era of technology it is a relief to find a company truly concerned with providing excellent service to their customers.</p> <p>The workers that were on the job included Jerry, the foreman, Nick, Donne, Austin, Jake, Jason and Max. They were AWESOME!!! The new work for which they were contracted was completed efficiently and to our complete satisfaction. </p> <p> After the work on the patio progressed it was determined by the crew that the repairs would need to be much more extensive than was originally planned. The crew informed management of the problems and the company accepted responsibility to complete the repair work properly. The new development required EXTENSIVE manual labor (digging heavy mud, hauling material up a rather steep slope to the street and their truck and then hauling via wheelbarrow rock and sand back to the location. At no time did any of the workers voice any complaints about what the job required. It was hot and miserable and they worked tirelessly.</p> <p>The crew members were always professional, respectful of our property and of us as individuals. It was initially thought that the work would be completed in one day. Because of the additional problems encountered the job required 5 and 1/2 days. Jerry was especially good to communicate the progress and keep us informed about what was being done and why. When bad weather kept them from working he contacted us early to let us know the plans for work. Every day before they left the street in front of our house was cleaned and all debris, etc. was removed. Our neighbors were impressed with the methods that were used during the work on this job.</p> <p>We feel fortunate to have contracted our landscaping with this company and commend the workers who upheld the company commitment of providing professional service and EXCELLENT quality.</p> <p>We highly recommend this company for any landscaping projects!!!<br /> <br /></p> <br />

Mickman's irrigation crew came on the day promised. They worked diligently through the day and installed the whole system in one day. Some of the installation was tricky as we had a very narrow lot-line situation and a slope to navigate. They didn't balk at the challenges but proceeded to work through the problems. When they were done, they set the controller to sprinkle the lawn at the best setting to get the lawn back to "green". They explained how it all worked and said to call if we had any question/problems. <br /> Everything worked great but after a week or so, all of the lawn was restored to "green" except one section. I called Mickman's and later <strong>that same day</strong> a technician came right out and assessed the situation. The sprinkler was working perfectly but that section needed more time each session. They adjusted that one specific section and indeed, after a week or so, that section greened-up. <br /> We are really thrilled with the installation, service and the system itself. Mickman's just came to "blow out" the system for the winterization process. Our whole experience with the Mickman's Irrigation Division couldn't have been better. <br />

We used Mickmang Brothers to landscape around our house several years ago. We were happy with the design and the installed products have aged well over the years. After we added an addition to our garage we had them design and install landscaping that matched the earlier work done on the rest of our house. <br /> We did this project late in the fall. The designer came out on time on the appointment date and helped us make a landscaping plan that ties the new construction in with the existing landscaping design. The installation was done several days later (before the onset of the predicted colder weather and snow). The installers worked quickly and did an excellent job. They installed flagstone stepping stones in the crushed rock as a pathway from the deck/garage service door to the back yard. They had 3 left over flagstone pieces and asked if we would like to have them. We then added them to the flagstone path they had already laid out. The result was more pleasing and functional than the original layout. <br /> They also did some maintenance on our existing landscaping. Over the years tree roots had raised some of the previously laid flagstone and bullet nose edging making them wobbly. They corrected this so all is once again stable and level. <br /> The end result ties in the new constuction with our existing landscaping so all looks like it belongs together. We would use Mickman Brothers again for future landscaping needs.

The designer was tolerant of my perfectionism and designed a very nice plan. The installers were pleasant and respectful to work with and did a good job keeping things as clean as possible. After completion I give extra care not to underwater or over water the new plants and shrubs (28 of them). Before the end of last summer I noticed one perennial struggling. Spring 2012 came with floods of rain, followed by excessive long bouts of extreme heat. By mid summer I had lost one evergreen and 5 annual plants (all of the same variety). They had replaced the evergreen and a couple of the annuals. My recommendations would be to interview a designer to see how comfortable you are working with them, let them know your ideas and be sure you let them know that if your thoughts wouldn't work they let you know that. They need to know your expectations and don't hesitate to be specific. <br /> <br /> UPDATE - It has now been several years since Mickman's had done my back yard landscape. There were 3 shrubs that struggled from the start of the 2nd year (these were not mentioned in my previous post), I monitored them carefully until I finally pulled them myself last year. I asked the designer prior to planting if they would actually survive in that location as they were in a heavily shaded area. She assured me they would be fine - they weren't. I replaced them with pots for annuals. We also had them do a free standing wall around a firepit area. They did not take into account the irrigation that hits that area and now I have extensive mold issues on the wall block that I will have to spend time to clean the whole wall and money to redesign that area's irrigation. Three years ago my son and I replanted most of our front landscape which included a variety of 28 plants - perennial, evergreen and shrub. There was only one perennial that did not make it. My neighbor had re-landscaped there whole property, had twice the plantings that I did, and had only 2 plants that didn't make it by the end of the 2nd year. If I were to have a similar project again, I would have them do everything but the planting and possibly the choice of plants. It became a very expensive venture to have to replace so many of them. <br />

After a massive amount of work and the water was in the pond and the pump was plugged in, the darn thing sprung a leak!!! Mickman hung in there and found the leak. There were very reassuring and kept their word. <br /> The guys that worked on the pond worked incredibly hard and stayed on task. The Supervisor of the staff is a huge asset to Mickman and really solved the problem with the leak. <br /> We now have a beautiful, small stream that flows into our pond and is a terrific asset to our home.

We were completely satisfied with our experience. Paul (our designer) was thorough and responsive to our inquiries about design modifications, allowing us to shape the project to exactly our needs. He was willing to allow us to do parts of the project to reduce costs if we desired. The landscaping team of Jake, Andres and Henry were also prompt (showed up early each morning and worked full days completing the project in just 4 days), They were personable, left a very clean work site each day and repaired any and all damages incurred from the project. After using the stairway and patio for a month we find it works exactly as we had planned. It has improved the functionality of our backyard.

We were very impressed with Anne's design. We had a couple other landscapers bid on this job, but Anne was the only one who came back with a very detailed plan, to-scale, after just one visit to our house. Anne seemed to have more knowledge about plants and design than the others we called and was always open to changes. We could have done any part of the project ourselves and adjusted the price accordingly, but we decided we just didn't have time. Mickman's pricing seemed competitive with the others. Professional landscaping in general is just more expensive than we thought it would be, especially when you think about paying 2-3 times the cost of the plant for the install. Overall, I'm glad we just had them do everything and get it finished quickly. We made changes to the types of trees and also the back patio shape and Anne was very willing to work with us to make the requested changes. The crew that did the install was amazing. Jake was the foreman and was there every day making sure things went smoothly. I've never seen such hard workers. I think the entire project took about two weeks. The normal guarantee on the plants is six months, but I insisted on, and received a one year guarantee. Six months wouldn't have even given me time to see if the plants came up in the spring. So far, it looks like most plants survived the winter. It's still April, so some may not be up yet, but I'm sure Anne Marie will replace anything that didn't survive the winter. Mickman sends out landscaping tips so I know how to take care of my plants. The only disappointment of the entire job was the sprinkler system work. I believe Mickman outsources this to another company and their work wasn't very good and they were overpriced. We paid $726 for changes to the existing sprinkler system and things still weren't done correctly. We found two leaking heads this spring, a hose that had been cut through, one head that needed to be removed due to too much saturation, and another head that needed to replaced with a taller head. I had another company come out and do all that work for $140 this week. Other than the sprinkler system, we were very pleased with the landscaping job they did. Many neighbors have told me how great our yard looks now.
