They got the job done quickly and did a good job cleaning up after themselves. The roof looks nice.

**This is an update: after 1 year the roof is leaking. I have been trying to contact the owner, John, since March 2014 and he has not returned any of my calls or responded to email. Now I have a leaky roof and will have to find someone else to fix it. Very disappointed with this contractor. He seemed like a nice guy in person but I would not recommend his company.

Ya thinking of calling this company ? Go for it. I will try to keep this short, but wow...what a big fat hassle !!! John was very on the spot out in the beginning. Roof was done in a few days. I promptly paid him for the roof. Unfortunately for me since this was an out of town rental, I did not go and check his work until a few days after they were done. Bad bad me ! The actual roofing was fine, but......somehow there ended up being a huge part of an eve/ dormer face that was removed, and left totally exposed with raw 2x4's all open to the rain and weather. Like the siding was removed and never replaced. Also a heavy out of service woodstove pipe that was attached in the attic had come loose during the roofing process and fell through the ceiling inside the living room leaving a 6 inch hole. I know that probably was not his fault ok, but it did fall through during his work. I asked him to please come out and take a look at the 6 inch hole in the ceiling, and the big exposed wood on the roof. And to please fix it. We had also agreed that he would change out an entry door in the back of the home, because it had major gaps in it from the previous tenants and was letting ALOT of cold air in.
I had a spare steel entry door, so I gave it too him to use as a change out for the back entry door for the rental. It did not fit so he said he was going to order a new one that would fit. Now in the meantime is was getting very cold and my tenants have little kids in the house so they were needing this done soon.
Ok here is were the problems started. Trying to get John to come back out and finish was a total nightmare ! He was too busy, or did not return phone call, texts' or emails very well. In all fairness, he did respond to a few, but it was always the same thing...will be there in a few days because he needed to finish this big important job he was on ( hey, I was an important job too, at least I thought so, and so did my cold tenants ! ). Anyhow, this went on for ....WEEKS ! Finally he told me he had ordered the new door that would fit, and as soon as it came in he would call me and install it, and fix the other holes as well. Well fast forward again a few more WEEKS !! Really ? By now we are racking up months of waiting. Finally I called him again and he told me the new door was in, but he was on another "big important job" and it would be a few days. After a few days I got ahold of him again and now he could not send his crew because he was sick in bed. Ok I do understand that, when your sick, your sick..I get it. But your crew couldn't go ? Finally I just told him I will come get the new door and the keys to the house and finish it myself. At this point...whatever. My tenants were very patient, I was very patient but good God enough already, I get it, you will never be back. It has been 2 months plus by now..I get it. Tired of calling, tired of asking, tired of begging to please just come finish your job and return the keys.
He told me he would leave the new door ( that we waited weeks for by the way) and keys outside his shop. Fine then. I went to get the door and to my surprise and dismay.......there was no new door, it was the exact same door I had given to him weeks ago that was too big!! Are you kidding me, really ?? Oh yeah, as an added bonus...no keys. Lovely......
John is a very, very nice guy, he really is and was very prompt to get the big work done. I truly do wish him the best. But to get him to come back and follow through...never gonna happen, at least not for me. This was an awful awful experience to say the very least. Now my other house in Portland needs a roof, and it is a very big job compared to my other 2 properties. I obviously will not be calling John because I do not want to play anymore. He is obviously just too busy, and I do not want to ever, ever go through that again.
Replaced my roof. I have a large roof because I have a one story home with over 2100 square feet (not including the two car garage). I took advantage of the Big Deal and because of that I was able to get a roof with a little better quality roof with 50 year warranty for the same price as 30 year warranty roofs. I also had them replace three sky lights. I gave them a "C" for responsiveness because I had to email a couple of times to nail down a date for them to complete. I'm still waiting for one of my sky lights and I haven't heard from him for a couple of weeks.

|

|Thank you for the big deal because although I have had a little frustration it is well worth it. They completed the roof in 2 days and that is saying something during the winter and a large roof. They cleaned up really well and I have already given them a reference to my Mom which I wouldn't do if I didn't think they were fair and didn't do a good job.

They had to come back to repair a couple of the leaks they had previously repaired. This time it was the owner who showed up.This time he stated that we needed a new roof at a pretty considerable cost.I think it wad probably a fair estimate but unable to afford it at this time.

They showed on the scheduled date only to tell me they overbooked and could they come back. Note that I work and would have to take another day. He did offer to go to the store and buy more harnesses if I really wanted. We rescheduled. I told the guy at that time I needed the moss removed, the nuts from birds removed and a leak fix. He told me what they would do specifically to fix the leak. It was several weeks before they returned... After I called to ask them when they would come. There is still some moss on the roof and they left all the nuts they removed scattered around the yard, driveway and front walk where people might slip on them. The next rain I noticed the leak still happening. I called, he said he was eating lunch could he call me back. He didn't call so I called again and left a message. He didn't call so I called again. He finally called back said he would send someone out, they had run out of time before. To this date it still leaks and beginning to show mold. I messaged on Angie's list and he said he already sent someone to fix it. I told him it wasn't fixed. He said he would stop by on the 5th if it didn't get too dark. I haven't heard from him since and it still leaks. Definitely not worth what I paid for even at a discount.
Communication with the company manager was inconsistent and unresponsive. He offered a good estimate but significantly later than promised in the original Angie's List promotion. He completely missed the first Friday afternoon appointment Friday September 6 without calling or contacting me during the weekend to explain even though I was waiting at the jobsite all afternoon.
It would be my impression that the workload increase that came with the Angie's List promotion was more than management was prepared to handle in a timely and professional manner.
The actual repair work was effective, informative, and his workers, particularly David Cardenas performed well.
It turned out okay I guess, I was surprised that they were here for only 45 minutes. I did not get much for what I paid. They were more interested in examining my roof and told me that I needed to get a new one. Then they took the measurements and have not called me back with an estimate on what it would cost to get a new one. I am really disappointed in what they did for me. They were clean and were not rude. They were not demanding or anything like that. They were courteous and did a good job. They said that I did not have any leaks, which was comforting. They did examine the roof and told me that I needed a new one, so I was pleased with that. It took about three weeks to get them out here. I finally called them. I have not heard from them since they came out. I would like to see their bid on the new roof. They were not a lot of pressure. They did not call me; I had to call them. They were on time. The guys knew what they were doing. I could have gotten a roof cleaner for half the price. I would not use them again.
09/05/2013
We exchanged emails for about a week after I purchased the coupon before I talked to him in person. After scheduling the work, it was performed quickly and competently. He was thorough. He and an employee went on roof and in the attic. He found several areas that could leak and sealed them. He was on-site just over an hour. Would hire again.

04/02/2014
I'm updating my review to reflect Mid-Valley Building's non-responsiveness to my phone calls in recent weeks.
I paid $149.00 for a 1/2 coupon for roof maintenance. My reason for doing so was to find & seal the source of a leak that appeared in the ceiling of my office. John, the owner, came out with a helper. John looked at the spots on the ceiling, agreed they were due to moisture, and then went into the attic. When he came back down, he said he found areas that could leak, but did not find an active leak, and said the moisture probably came in before the new roof was put on about 5 years ago. I pointed out that we painted the ceiling about 3 years ago and did not notice any spots at that time, so it seemed like it must have leaked since then. He said to paint over the spots and call him if they re-appear. I noticed 3 new spots in the ceiling of my office over a month ago and called John on 02/18/2014. He didn't answer so I left a voice message. After not hearing from him I called again on 02/25/2014 & left another voice message. After still not hearing from him I emailed him on 03/01/2014. Still no response, so I emailed again on 03/06/2014. Still no response from John as of this writing. I paid more than I thought the service was worth because (a) it was offered through Angie's List and (b) John offered a one year warranty. In hind sight, it was a bad deal. I paid another roofer to come out, find the leaks (which were very evident to them), & seal them. The leaks were in the same area that John had looked. I trusted Angie's List to only offer services of respectable contractors. Looks like I misplaced my trust in both Angie's List and in Mid Valley Building LLC.
Dave
The service worked out fine. They were prompt. Actually, they were delayed, but they called me and let me know that they were going to be delayed. I think I did not have a good sense of what it was they were going to do which was my problem, not theirs. They offered some insights on some things to do on a couple of things that I had questions about. It was not necessary some thing they were going to do that was covered by what I bought. I am hoping that the repair that he made on a leak would not be an issue anymore which I will find out soon. They did what they said they were going to do within reason of the $149 big deal I purchased. They came out within a week or so after I purchased the big deal. That was fine. I did not feel like it was an extensive wait to get them out. I do not have anything to compare the quality of their work against with.

We got three bids on this roofing project on our primary 1390 sq. ft. residence. Two of our bidders were Angie's List recommendations. The third bidder wasn't but was highly recommended locally.
John Jones, owner of Mid-Valley Building, was very professional and prompt. He showed up when scheduled and was prepared. He responded promptly when we asked for modifications to his bid and gave us other options to consider. We felt like we had selected a good team player when we signed our contract. He asked for half at signing and the remainder at completion. He was willing to take credit cards for payment which worked well for us.
John and his teammates showed up at 7:00AM and were done by 3:30PM. John directed the roofing crew and his mother, Julie, did ground work cleanup. At the end of the day the roof was fully installed and the cleanup was perfect!
At the end of the day we asked for a new roof on our garden shed and John responded with a good bid and completed that add-on within a week.
All of his employees were pleasant and mindful or our property. We couldn't be happier and we highly recommend him and his crew! We will definitely use Mid-Valley Building again in the future.
I had John come out and give me a estimate for a new roof on our home. He was 1 of 7 companies I had come out to my home and give estimates. Out of all of them he showed up 15 minutes early unlike a few that showed up late and did not even bother to call to let me know. I also had given them all the same paper with instructions on how we wanted our estimates give to us and how to break them down for us to see where we were going to be spending our money, and Mid-Valley was the only company to do this for us. john looked at our roof and took measurements and even took time to point out somethings on my front porch that we needed to fix when we fixed the roof over it. He took time to tell me about the products they used and even let me know that if we had any questions to call. I did tell him that my grandparents were going to be paying for this and would be here during the roofing time. He told me to let them know if they had any questions they may call him, and he would even come back out to talk to them if they would like once they got here. I also wanted to make sure that this roof could be put on during a time frame that was only 2 weeks away from the time he came out for my estimate and John managed to be able to fit us in between jobs and our Oregon weather.
Once we deiced to go with Mid-Valley my grandfather took over and contacted John to set up a time to meet with him and go over everything. John came all the way back out to my home and did a walk through with my grandfather and explained to him everything that needed to be done. My grandparents were really impressed my him and felt he was really a great choice we made. They agreed that 1 week after meeting and exactly 2 weeks after he showed up to do our estimate work would start and would take 2 days max.
The morning of the job start he showed up wit a van of guys already to work which was great to have a van and a truck instead of lots of trucks up and down our street making neighbors made. It made parking a lot easier since we also had family from out of state and out of town here at the same time. They all greeted us and went right up on the roof while John talked to us for a few moments before heading up to work on our roof to. It is nice to see the head guy working on the job right along with his crew. With in a few hours they had the whole back of my roof off and fixed the dry rot we had and had the new one being started while a few of the guys started on the front part and my skylights. it was a very cloudy day and as the finished the back up and had been working on the front part of the house, skylights and front porch which was the worst part of things the sky let loose. I watched as they just keep working and after about 15 minutes of downpour it stopped and work went on full force. Yep they got wet but kept it going.
Even though they had to deal with the rain and even our windy day we had that day they were great and kept working. A job that was estimated at 2 days only took 1 day from start to finish. After the roof was done John came and took time to walk around with us and make sure things were done right. We did find a few things that were not totally done and he made sure they got done and even sent a few guys back to put some metal strips on my back porch that was not included in the job, because they seen that it did not have them and some of the singles that the people who roofed that roof before put where weather stripping should have been blew off. He asked if we would like him to do that for us and we told him that would be great.
Oh ya forgot to tell you that during the whole roofing project my grandfather was us there asking all kinds of questions and taking pictures of the whole thing from tear off to the finished job. He wanted to make sure that I could see everything since I can not get up there to see it cause I am afraid of heights and wanted to know everything about my old and new roof.
I really think we made a great choice in Mid-Valley Building,LLC. I would recommend them to anyone who would be looking to have things done to their home. I would be happy to have them come back in the future and do more work for us and would most likely be the first company I would call on.
Thank You John and his whole crew for your great job done
From All of Us
On Fairoaks in Falls City, Or.
John came over and checked out the roof for the bid. He had the bid for us in a couple of days. That was quick turn around. We accepted the bid and John and his mother came by and brought a lot of samples for my wife and I to look at. We set the roofing samples out in the front yard so my wife could get a better idea of the color of the products. It was a good idea because it allowed us to see what the color would look like against the color of our house and what it looks like in natural light. We spent a lot of time comparing products colors and asking lots of questions. John and his mother were very patient with us and our questions. My wife and his mother consulted a lot on the various color combinations and textures of the products. john and his mother were very professional and personable. They understood that it was a big investment for us and allowed us to take our time. What we appreciated was they did not try to up sale or push a particular line of products. We did choose one product that was more money than the one we originally thought we liked. After we made the selection, they gave us a timeline and an overview of the work.
The timeline had to be moved due to rain for a week or so and John kept us informed. Being informed is important to us. John and his crew arrived on time and got right to work. They were fast and efficient. It only took a day for the new roof to be installed and it looked great. They cleaned up and hauled off all the old materials and picked up the debris out of the front and back yards. We found a few stray staples but nothing to be concerned about.
Mid Valley is one of a few certified Owens-Corning contractors in the Salem area. By being certified Mid Valley could extend the manufacturers standard warranty of 20 years to 50 and it doesn't cost the home owner anymore. Got to love a bonus. Owens-Corning will only extend the warranty if their products are installed by a certified approved contractor. Mid Valley is. The warranty is backed by Owens-Corning not by individual contractors who may not be in business before the warranty expires. We checked to make sure the warranty is legit and it is. We took several bids and reviewed them. Mid Valley was a little higher than the lowest. I called John and asked if he would match the bid. I told him what the bid was and he said he would match it. I was all set for some haggling or some grumbling but NONE of that happened it was really nice.
We had some concerns about getting the warranty information and I called John. He always answers his phone and I explained my concern. He told me that he would look into it and get back to me. John said Owens was a bit behind and we would get our info. A few weeks went by and no info, so I called John. He contacted Owens and got back to me. A couple of weeks went by and no info. I again contacted John about it. He followed up with emails to Owens-Corning and he forwarded the responses from their representative. Which revealed the warranty info was registered by John but Owens-Corning dropped the ball in getting it out to us and they said for John to give us their direct contact info. Which he did. It will be another few weeks before we get the info. This is important, John never groaned or sounded unhappy nor did he try to avoid me when I spoke with him about this issue. This is great customer service. I can not say enough about the great service. John even answers his email on weekends. That is very rare these days for a business to do that. We did have a question about what appeared as lumpy shingles on some parts of the roof. We called and John explained that the lumpy shingles will flatten out when the temperature gets warmer. And they did. My wife is happy about that. We enjoyed our experience with Mid Valley building LLC and we have recommended them to several friends. Great workmanship great price and outstanding costumer service. Oh yeah and NO LEAKS. They do other work besides roofs. We would use them again.

I needed to have my roof replaced along with 5 skylights. Mid Valley Building provided a very detailed bid and the price came in at least a few thousand dollars under any other bids I received, this included the price of new skylights. Not only did they provide Excellent service, but the installation was done with honesty, integrity and professionalism. This company is family owned and displays wonderful ethics. They showed up on time with a great crew and completed the installation in two and a half days. Not only were they prompt, but they made sure to leave the areas around the house cleaned up every day. I chose Owens Corning Tru Def Duration Series roofing and was so very glad I did since I'm in a high wind and rain area. They were very courteous and a pleasure to have around. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone looking for honesty, integrity and professionalism in a contractor. I'm a very happy customer and for any other major construction or repairs to be done, they will be are my first call. In fact, they will be doing some door replacement and decking work for me in the near future. This was an awesome experience! Kudos to John, the family and crew!

Got an estimate very quickly, great response time, But then the communication was inconsistent and there was confusion about if/when to start. When I called to make sure they were coming, they did not knowfor sure whether they were to do the job, anyway, they came out when originally scheduled and the work accomplished was good (not necessarily excellent but very good).
Their cleanup was virtually non existent, No drop cloth or anything else was used on the floor, they did paper over exposed beams and masked windows and doors.
It took us 4 hours to clean up the floor however (unfinished concrete) and although it was unfinished, the floor still required being clean prior to finishing.
Other thoughts: while they were here, I asked for estimates from the owner on other aspects of this project and the owner told me they did that type of work (concrete floor) but after asking twice, the owner never gave me an estimate.
In essence while the work they did was acceptable-nearly excellent-with the communication issues and lack of cleanup I am not 100% sure whether I would hire again or not. The one additional thing in their favor is the lack of decent contractors in Salem.

Contacted Mid Valley for estimate on concrete driveway and patio project mid summer and after a few other bids came in I decided to use Mid Valley as they can handle more than just concrete and I had a few things I didnt want to do myself.
The bid was competitive but didn't provide a lot of detail. I was nervous that we might come to some future disagreement so I asked lots of questions. The owner was very responsive and I felt I could trust him so I agreed to the service. He was very busy but I was willing to wait to fit my job into his schedule. The work began the second week of October.
On day one the crew arrived and asked to plug into my outlet in back. I agreed and left the house and went to work. within an hour the crew had tripped the circuit breaker ( i assume with the jackhammers they brought) and I had to return home to switch the power back on. I decided to remain onsite in case something else happened. It should be noted my home was built in 1959 and isnt exactly prepared for any heavy draw of power.
Day two was uneventful. The siding was installed up top (the remains of my personal roofing adventure) and the AC unit was removed in back and they sided over the hole. They finished the forms and general clean up of dirt and debris
Day three was supposed to be the pour day but the rains came for the first time in months. Lucky me. We decided to play it by ear until the forecast was more hopeful. That came the next week.
Following the pour (2500 PSI) and removal of forms I had to reach out to the owner to be sure of when I could park the family cars on the surface. While the owner was again very responsive I felt that as the homeowner I should have received a bit of an education from my contractor early on so i didn't ruin the work done. I also noted the concrete had run up against my storm door from the steps created and had excess concrete stuck to my siding. There was still bits of concrete (the size of half dollars) as far as 2 feet into my neighbors yard. This wasn't debris from the demo but rather splatter or something like it that made it way to my neighbors lawn. I picked out this debris by hand and apologized to my neighbor who is far too polite to complain. I have footprints and swirl marks in my driveway that appear to be permanent, they were noticed 2 days after the pour when the drizzle stopped and things dried out. I now need to find an appropriate stain to drown out these marks so that the driveway is all one color. The concrete work itself is good but not spectacular. There is excess (what looks like a drizzle) concrete on the edge of my driveway that needs sanded down or something to keep from scratching a bare foot on it.
I shared the details (and a bit more) with the owner of mid valley. They thanked me for my business. There was no explanation for what I encountered.
