I contacted John on a Saturday, and he was able to come out the next day on Sunday morning. I had purchased the doors, and he ripped out the old doors and replaced with new ones. He took care of the casing as well. I was pleased with the work, the price, and John's just easy to work with as well. Very nice gentleman.

John did the whole thing from beginning to end including the design. He made sure that the work was done 100% professionally and to the highest standard. The work was great quality and fitted in beautifully with the period of the house inside and out. He even fixed a number of problems created 20 years ago with the last renovation. Permits and other work were also done very well without a hitch.

John listened to our needs and spent time with us to map out plans to update our kitchen. This included the removal of an old pantry and a partial wall and replacing it with cabinetry. He is reliable, showed up on time every day until the project was completed to our satisfaction. At the start of each day he would tell us exactly what he planned for that day so we understood next steps. His craftsmanship is impeccable. He takes pride in his work and pays attention to even the smallest details. I highly recommend Midwest Home Remodeling and Design and without hesitation, we will use his services again.
He did a marvelous job. He was very professional and all of his work was top quality. We were so pleased with the results that we immediately hired him to remodel our guest bathroom. He has completed that task with top-notch professionalism, and we are very happy with the results. We highly recommend him and will hire him again for any future remodeling we plan to do.
This was our first remodeling project of any kind, and we were very nervous to take it on. Having heard many horror stories, I searched the list before getting any estimates-- but from the first phone call we had a good feeling about John. He was very easy to work with-- he quickly came out for the estimate and discussed in detail what we wanted out of our kitchen. A complete gut remodel was not within our budget, but we wanted to make many updates to the kitchen-- John seemed to understand that right away and never pressured us to add to the project or go beyond our intention budget-wise. The estimate was ready when he said it would be, and he again spent time with us reviewing the plan and answering our questions.
Throughout the project, he was very good at letting us know his plan for the day, if there were any concerns or issues, and he was also great at calling us back if we had questions. He was considerate of our time, and was always at our home early and when he said he would be. The kitchen looks beautiful and we hope to be calling him soon for more projects!

The project began on schedule and was completed before our move in date; and was coordinated well with our other contractors; ie: flooring and painting.
In the middle of the project our basement flooded due to a failed sump pump and significant snow melt. John assisted arranging a pump replacement and worked with the cleanup crew to get things back in order.
When John and I were not satisfied with the work of the dry wall subcontractor, John replaced him and redid some of the work.

Overall the job was completed according to my request. A written estimate was provided to provide options in the selection process. Initially, I opted not to paint the area as part of the job, but quickly realized it was necessary to ensure the job was completed. I am very satisfied with the job and the services provided.

John was wonderful to work with. He came out on a Friday night to discuss the deck project. He listened to what my husband and I wanted and he didn't try talking us into anything. He even provided a detailed written estimate within a week after meeting with us. He took time to speak to the village regarding permitting, he ordered a dumpster and let us know when they would deliver it, he ordered all of the material etc. He answered every and all questions we had. He explained the entire building process from start to finish in terms we would understand. John kept us updated on each stage of construction. Starting with the permitting, to the ordering of material, to the framing, the delivery and installing of the decking material, to all the village inspections etc. John was great and the project went very smoothly, although there were some days the weather did not cooperate.

John is a perfectionist. He worked on the deck from early morning to late afternoon, even in the oppressive heat. He was very considerate of our property. He was very neat and orderly. He called us several times during construction to provide us with an update on the project and he always encouraged us to call with any questions. We had an electrical outlet that wasn't working and he went ahead and replaced that for me at no charge. Material that was ordered but was not needed was returned and we were credited for that. We can't say enough about his character, his work ethic and his craft. He built not only a beautiful deck but a vey functional, sturdy deck.. Several neighbors have complimented us on the new deck. Even the village inspector complimented John on the great job he did.

If you want to hire a contractor that is knowlegable, honest, hardworking, dependable, does fantastic work we would highly recommend John. He will keep you informed during the project, and make sure that you are absolutely happy with everything. He even calls you a week or so after the job is complete to make sure there isn't any problems. He stands behind his work and does whatever he has to to make sure that the work is done well and you are satisfied.

Overall, it went well. John ordered just enough material so that we didn't have to go back and return any unused lumber/nails, etc. The new gate was much more heavy duty than the old one. The doors swung open smoothly and everything just fit and looked perfect. We have used John for all our projects so I know that he never skimps on quality. He takes pride in everything he does. He never took a break for lunch, he just kept going.... Very focused. I made him a sandwich that he began to nibble on it around 2:30pm. He only got to eat some of it because our beagle got up on his work table and ate the rest! Anyhow, all in all we are thrilled with the new gate and will be using Midwest again in the future.

John worked hard from the day we asked him to give us an estimate. He was reliable, on time, within budget, professional and very easy to work with. We wanted a new kitchen and had estimates from several others to do the work, but John?s estimate was the least expensive and the most thorough. He was able to start quickly and kept on the job until it was finished, even working weekends, if we wanted. Our whole kitchen was finished in 2 1/2 weeks. During the time working in our house he was careful about keeping our home as clean as possible. He offered to have us use his contractor discounts for fixtures and tile. He is honest and diligent. He answered my questions patiently and knowledgeably. He showed up on the dot every day and was meticulous about every detail. He did not require attention, but checked with me first before doing anything outside our agreement.

My family is in corporate construction and I have worked construction, so I have some knowledge in this area. When you find a good and honest contractor, like John, you will not regret it. I would talk to John before considering anyone else and plan to hire him for other projects in the future.

We began demo at the beginning of December and concluded the kitchen at the beginning of January. It was an impressive undertaking and we now have a kitchen that is the envy of the neighborhood! Our basement was begun a month after and took another month. My kids don't want to spend time anywhere else now. John did the work of a crew and all at a price that made us hire him to help with our next remodel job. Thanks for the great work, John!

John was a delight to work with. He showed up when he said he would and he did very high quality work. I see the negative review John got from some other guy and I just can't imagine how it can be true. If you meet John, you'll see exactly what I mean. He was so nice to me and my wife during the installation and came back a couple times to make sure it was done right. I would highly recommend John to do work for anyone. A real gem in this category.

John was very responsive in the beginning and claimed he was very detail oriented. The first few things he did vwere ok In the 3rd week he started making mistakes. He spent 2 days taping drywall and when I came to the house on the 3rd day all the taped lines bubbled and had to be redone. I paid him $40 an hour for 2 days totaling $640 when I asked for some money back he seemed bothered and reluctant but gave me a credit for $170. He did new trim around my exterior window and rather than take the time to make sure all the corners matched, he just left it and it looks tterible. The edges of the new window trim dont meet properly in one corner. He also promised he would find a day as soon as my special order window came in. I have made 3 calls to John and he wont even return my call. He has been paid in full and now wont return calls. My advise is buyer beware! I would never refer this guy

"I am Responding to this Report Because I want people to Know the Truth about this message. I Did work for this person as a Refferal through a Friend and not as a member of angies list. I Ageed to work for him By the Hour, There was no contract on work done. He Had No problem with any of my work up until the point he ask me to do some Taping for Him, I told him that My skills on this was not very good and told me to do it anyway. After spending 2 Days working to get Done,He tells me He hired someone to fix everything without giving me the oportuity to make Right. The Second thing I want people to Know is That I Never Did anything with his windows, He asked if I could come back to install a window that he ordered but never asked me to trim any windows This was a Blaten Lie.Only after he called me two times During working hours when I had been working 12 to 14 hour Days on my customers clock and when I had the next available moment to call him ,By the third time He called to Threaten me on Voicemail That if I Didnt call him that he would Become a member if angies list and Write a report on me and let people know not to hire me. At That Point I Refuse to call him back when the whole situation was about the install of one window. For Anyone that Knows Me I Do take Pride in everything I Do and I am the very Honest Person, I felt that this person was Impaitient and this person was very Shady in His Dealings with other contractors I Treat People with Respect, and Dont Deal people that are Disrepectful.."

John Asbach has done carpentry and siding work for me. Not only is John a very skilled craftsman, but he cares as much about the precision, quality, and finished "look" of the work as the homeowner does, which is a trait that is extremely hard to find. The carpentry work was building a porch, installing a new pre-hung entry door, installing a new storm door, and installing an interior door. When John was doing the rough carpentry for the porch, there was an almost continuous "symphony" of sawing and nailing, and when it stopped, I saw that John was not idle, but that he was measuring and re-measuring the dimensions for his next cut. When the porch was ready for the finish carpentry, John was exact and precise in the measuring and positioning of all the various trim moldings that went on the roof and columns of the porch...and every miter joint he made was tight and seamless. John caulked all the nail holes without question, which is something other carpenters I have used have refused to do. The pre-hung entry door was installed with great attention to it being plumb and level so that there would be no problem with the lock and the strike plate. John also caulked "everything that could be caulked" (my words) to prevent any air filtration. John was also careful to adjust the bottom expander on the storm door to ensure that it was air-tight. The interior door I wanted was for a doorway where there had never been a door before, and swing space for the door to open was very limited; therefore, I asked John if a pocket door could be installed. John explained the de-construction that would be necessary to facilitate putting in a pocket door, so I decided against it. John explored with me the pros and cons of several other door types, and we settled on French doors. The siding work was to re-do an unsatisfactory, shoddy siding job that had been done previously by a "professional siding company." John took great care to think through how best to run the siding into the new porch construction so as to eliminate the need for unsightly J-track. This required him to make many very intricate cuts in the siding so it would tightly abut the profile of the molding trim on the porch roof and the half columns fastened against the wall. The result was not only beautiful, but water-tight. John is industrious, efficient, thoughtful, and meticulous in executing all his work. He treats each task as if he were doing it for his own home. I couldn't be more satisfied.

Overall: GREAT!! Very happy! My husband Bob and I felt very comfortable and confident with their work and will be using Midwest Home Remodeling again in the future. We have already recommended them to friends who have seen the finished work on our Illinois and Wisconsin homes.
