The inspection was fine. The follow up work wasn’t great. The chimney cracked a year later. They were hard to get a hold of.

Everything went well. Our chimney was cleaner than we thought. We talked with the technician about how we get smoke coming into our home when we light a fire, even with the flume wide open. (We thought the chimney was dirty or clogged, causing this). Turns out, it has to do with how the angle of our roof meets the chimney. He said there's nothing really to do but crack a window when we have fires. It was great to learn this additional information.
I'm doing this review longer after the service was performed. From what I remember, everything went well, they did the inspection and provided us with a written report.
The gentleman from Midwest Home services did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable. A lot more knowledgeable than other people we had talked to. He handled everything very well and did everything promptly. I would use him again.

I have mixed feelings about Midwest Home Services, I don't think anything was done quite frankly, I think I was hustled. They said there was work to be done on the chimney and they seem to do the work in record-time and the bill was enormous. We had engaged them to clean the chimney and they said there was bricks lose up there and stuff and they seem like in 20 minutes they repaired everything. I can't get up and check to see what they did. I haven't had anyone come up and check to see if any work was done but I can see where anything was done. I'm not saying that they couldn't have done something but I don't know if they were out there that long to do any work. My understanding were they were going to replace bricks and you don't replace bricks that quick. I would never use them again and I just feel like I was hustled. I was disappointed because my wife and I are in our 80s, that they just took advantage of us because of our age. The biggest disappointment was the cost was so expensive. They showed up promptly. They showed up, he didn't get dirty and didn't wear any work clothes. He had kind of a nice outfit on, kind of going in an office, for a person going on roofs and doing chimney sweep why would you dress like that?

A guy came out and he checked the fireplace, but he did not have a flashlight. He then asked me for a flashlight. Then he told me that there are some cracks in the back of the fireplace and they are using this new 24 hour cure and told me what the cost would be (it was about 300-400 dollars). I then to Home Depot and purchased it myself and it was only $25.00 and was not a new product, which is what he told me was. It surprised me that he said the fireplace did not need to be cleaned, and I was surprised, because of the use it gets.

the guy was running late - didn't call... he had my contact info... he DID seem to know what he was doing... found some areas in the fireplace that needed repair. His shopvac 'was full from the previous jobs he'd done' -- yet he hadn't emptied it before coming to my job. This was disconcerting as he said that he might not be able to handle the job
I was not overly impressed
Jim was very professional and friendly. He even gave me unsolicited advice about how to keep the chimney clean(er). He was quick but did a very nice, thorough job and was very respectful of me and my home.
It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went really well. He showed up when he said he was going to. He really took a close look at our chimney. He went up on the roof as well. He gave us some ideas if we went with wood burning such as the placement of the skylights, which were things I hadn't thought about before. It was really past the expiration date but they allowed it because they had so many people and then they had technician out sick.

Happily, the fireplaces were in great condition. At that visit, it was recommended that I put toppers on the outside chimney, which I did do. I appreciated that the issue was identified, and was very pleased with all of the services provided.
