"Plaster walls are very unpredictable. You never know how they will react to getting drilled on, cut on, or worked on in general. Millers Superior Electric was sure to explain to the homeowners on three different occasions that it would be highly probable that there would be some damage. We ran wire from the attic to the second floor to the landing of the stairwell on the first floor. It was explained to the homeowner that there was no way of telling what obstacles would be in the way due to the face that this home was built in 1915. I Matt (owner) explained to the homeowner that we might have to groove the whole wall down in order to get to the first floor instead we were able to cut one bigger hole 16x9 in order to get our drill in there in order to avoid grooving the whole wall all the way down. You cannot tell where the beams are in a plaster home because of the wood lathe (backing), we cannot tell how much excess mortar is in the walls as well. This was explained three separate times to the homeowner by three different certified electricians. We were originally going to come down in the back of the closet and she was fine with us grooving the wall out to accomplish her project needs. I measured where the drop was going to be at the time of the original estimate, second trip my electrician explained this to her that we would have to come down in the bedroom wall instead of the closet. After a lengthy conversation with her husband they decided to proceed with the project and called back for the third time which was on July 25, 2013 and the project was completed four hours later. The homeowner knew the risks that were associated with completing this project, if she would have asked me to give her a turnkey price on patching and repairing and repainting I would have included another $500-$600 onto this project, but she didn’t. I told her we would not be responsible for any damages done to the plaster, therefore no allowance was made. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to pay for all damages that was made perfectly clear to up front unless she asked me to include that in our price (subcontractors)."
