Horrible. A 4 to 6 WEEK project took 7 MONTHS to complete. Contrary to the description of the company, Matt was not on the job every day. He actually only did work himself a handful of times. Other than that, he would show up to deliver materials. And contrary to the description of the company, Matt did use sub-contractors for the drywall, the painting, the cold air return and the carpet install. For the first few weeks his 2 employees showed up on a regular basis. Then, the work dwindled to 1 or 2 days a week with no work being done some weeks. The sub-contractor for the drywall/painting showed up sporadically.. But he did great work. Then, a lot of the drywall had to be torn down to install fire blocks and to expose the plumbing for inspection. The sub-contractor came back to reinstall the drywall and to repaint but he did not consistently show up, so Matt parted ways with him. Then, Matt hired another sub-contractor (scary since he had never worked with this person) to complete the drywall and painting. Fortunately, he did a good job. At one point, I had to hire my own plumber. A sub-contractor did the cold air return. Then, Matt hired a new employee to do the trim work. But Matt was unsure when he would be able to start. So, another week was lost. The person did do nice work. Matt was very difficult to communicate with. He was not timely responding to texts or voice messages. He lagged in contacting people to move the project forward. And he didn't have a handle on who was working when. I would call him when people didn't show up for anywhere from 1 day to a week. Also, he was not aware when people did do work. He would say that something needed to be done and I would tell him that the person had already been here and completed the work. About 3 weeks into the project, I asked a question about the seams in the drywall. Matt was very unprofessional in his reaction to my question and from then on work slowed to 0 to 1 to 2 days a week. When I asked him what was going on, he accused me of micro-managing. Mind you, it was one question. Most days, we were not even home. They had a key and a separate entrance through the basement walkout. So, even when we were home there were days we did not see or talk to them. Other days, I would go down at the end of the day to ask how things were going. Matt would just not accept responsibility for the lack of work, for the delays in making contact with people and following up with them, for the lack of overseeing the project and the mistakes that were made. He blamed me and the workers. On the last day.while the sub-contractor (scary, since he had never worked with him either) was installing the pad and the carpet. Matt and his 2 employees hung around the house all day (8:30-3:30). basically doing nothing except sitting on the patio, sitting in the truck and standing in the driveway (employees smoking). It was frustrating to witness since they could''t get here to work but they could waste an entire day standing around while the carpet installer worked. This whole ordeal was unfortunate, since he was recommended by a friend. When he did work for her, he was listed as a handyman. He showed up every day and actually did the work himself with another employee. My friend and I think he changed the dynamics when he changed to MK Remodeling and Design. He no longer did the work himself. He hired another employee and the 2 employees along with the sub-contractors did the work.Matt met with potential clients, secured contracts, set up shows and drew up plans. Update 5/5/2017 We are still correcting mistakes that were made. It makes no sense that you were trying to please me when you stalled the project after 3 weeks. Then, you took another 6 months to complete the last 3 weeks of work. I repeatedly told you that I just wanted the job completed. Week after week, I had to track you down to get some work done. Then, your people would show up for a day and I would have to track you down again. You disappeared the last part of December and the first part of January with no communication. Finally, your employee called me to tell when you would be back in January. I gave you an out. I told you that I could hire someone else to finish the job. You assured me that you were committed to finishing. That commitment took another 4 months, with having to repeatedly track you down again. And the reason you gave for disappearing in December/January did not pan out as did many of the other things that you told me along the way. Since my goal was to get the job completed, I never mentioned any of that to you. I’ve worked with many contractors over the years. I’ve never had a problem. Quite frankly, any other client would have walked away from you and hired someone else to complete the work or hire a lawyer to deal with the situation. I gave you chance after chance to fulfill the contract and get the work done. You continued to drag your feet. You need to take responsibility, be professional and offer us an apology.
