We paid Nick Morgan half of the cost of the job he bid. He agreed to perform multiple small jobs. He was to remove a half wall and relocate the return air vent. Remove a large mirror above the fireplace and square off the niche and then add cable and electrical outlets so a TV can be mounted. He was to remove dining area chandelier, and install 6 recessed lights and repair and texture the drywall and paint. Remove an above the stove microwave, install a range hood and extend the tile backsplash. He was going to switch a large chandelier with a ceiling fan and switch out an entry way light fixture. He initially said this would take about 3-5 days. He arrived on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 with one of his workers, Michael. They worked for a couple hours and pretty quickly removed the wall and squared off around the fireplace. Then Nick gave Michael some instructions and left to go to another job. Nick would return near the end of the day. They did not take care in covering our things or cleaning up after themselves. Michael asked to use our broom, dustpan and shop vacuum saying he didn’t have one. He did not lay plastic or tarps. We covered some things with our own painters plastic. I finally asked Nick if he could lay some tarps as the dirt and drywall was being ground into our carpet and wood floors. He had to go buy plastic, something a contractor should have on hand. For the next 3 days they would arrive between 8:30-9:00am and Nick would give instructions to Michael and then he would leave. He would come back once or twice during the day to give additional instructions. It was clear that Michael did not know what he was doing. He hung the range hood and it was not centered so the cupboard was scraping on one side. He made multiple mistakes during that time and did a lot of standing around and sitting in his car smoking. He drilled a fairly large, unnecessary hole on the outside of our house. He attempted to run the cable from our crawl space and at one point said he could drill a hole into the duct to run the cable through and then caulk it. At that point I told him not to do anything further. On Saturday, October 23th I informed Nick that we did not want Michael working at our home alone anymore and that we would be willing to wait a reasonable amount of time until he could dedicate his time to our job. On Monday, October 26th Nick message that he forgot he had an appointment and would be to our house around 10:30. He finally arrived around 2pm, didn’t do much of anything and left around 3:30pm. After that it was excuse after excuse, doctor appointments for his pregnant girlfriend, appointment to take care of his licensing, out shopping for supplies he could not find. Minimal work was getting done and he kept saying he would be there the next day and will finish is in 2 days. Sometime during the 3rd week Nick got a new helper. The helper installed the extension of the tile backsplash. It is a good thing I noticed his work before it dried. He hung the tile with the small cut edge directly in the middle instead of the outer edge. They took the tile down and flipped it around, which moved the cut edge to the top. After they were gone I realized that he had been rinsing the tile sponge in our black kitchen sink. The next day I specifically left a bucket out so he would not use our sink when grouting. On Wednesday, November 4th I discussed with him our dissatisfaction with the time frame and lack of progress. He apologized, gave several excuses and promised to be at our home Thursday and Friday all day to finish. On Thursday after a couple hours he left to go shop for the correct texture. Texture from a can that did not match, not even professional texture. He cleaned up before he left so I knew he was not returning. He messaged toward the end of the day and said he still had not found the right texture and he would be there first thing in the morning. He arrived Friday, November 6th and I specifically asked if he was going to be there all day, as in from now until around 4pm. That was the end of the 3rd week and it was the first day that he was actually at our house for a full day of work. Once he left and we were cleaning up the mess we noticed the quality of his work. Every area of drywall was not blended, it was bulging or wavy. The texture did not match, and the paint was all patchy with missed spots. There was texture; drywall mud and paint splattered EVERYWHERE. All over our new custom window shades, the walls, floors, carpet, cupboards, counters, windows, furniture, lamps, etc. They did little to no prep work cover things or taping. That was when my husband called and told Nick not to return. We sent him pictures of his work and he said he could fix the drywall by sanding and adding more texture. Our question was if he could make it look good why did he not do it correctly from the beginning. This was his finished product if we had not said anything. Then he had nerve to send an additional invoice for monies he said we owed him. We are going to have to pay a company thousands to repair what he did. When my husband told him we are not paying him any additional money he threatened to put a lien on our house.
Response from Morgan Home Improvements LLC
"To adress your concerns, we had never told you how long it would take I had told you that I was short handed and in the middle of another job as well and couldnt give you an accurate completion time, after you brought to my attention what that employee was doing I did the right thing and fired that employee. You and your husband had both told me it was ok that I went between the two jobs and you didnt care how long it took to finish. You also told me you were getting the floors and walls redone and we didnt need to worry about covering things or making a mess because it was getting redone anyways. You wouldnt allow me to address any of your concerns so I did the right thing and removed any work from the invoice that we did not do and charged you what was still owed for the work completed. If all of these issues were such a problem in the first place then why did you and your husband give us permission to do those things in the first place and then turn them into issues so you could tru to gey away without paying for the work that was already completed?"

Workers performed the job quickly, 10 days give or take; the owner was pretty upfront about everything and honest about pricing which considering how quickly the job was completed; is incredibly hard to find here.
