Based on Angie’s List reviews and the company’s “special deal,“ I chose MOVE-MANIA for a local but strenuous move. It was a great choice! MOVE-MANIA was stellar in every aspect of the move. They were so good, I contracted with them to do another difficult move! COMMUNICATIONS: From the very beginning, MOVE-MANIA placed the customers’ needs first: •They responded to queries immediately & answered each question I had in detail. •They did not require that I call to find out information or make arrangements (which many sales-oriented companies do). We exchanged information via email/Angie’s List, which accommodated my irregular schedule. They were willing to spend their time without even a guarantee of a contract. I appreciated that. •They were able to arrange a move fairly quickly, and when, just two days before the scheduled move, I needed to change the date, Gabriel simply checked his schedule and set another date. He showed no annoyance—which he could have, deservedly. Gracious professionalism! •LaQuisa in the office was very efficient in arranging the required deposit; providing receipts & documentation; keeping me posted on dates, arrival times, etc.; and following up with me when the move was completed. Not only was she professional, she was very pleasant to work with, very cordial. •The moving crew came at the scheduled time, & even gave me the “heads-up” call 15-minutes before their arrival (as they had said they would). Nothing was ever vague or late. Everything they said they would do, they did. THE MOVE: WOW! Our family has moved halfway across the country, and to Alaska and back, and to Saudi Arabia and back. By far, Gabriel, Jamison “(James”), and Robert were the best movers we have had. Both moves were laborious and difficult. The first job required they move a very precious bedroom set of my parents—very heavy, & including a double dresser—down three flights of stairs! My mother had kept the walnut wood in very good condition, & I expressed my concern. All three men respected my concerns & Gabriel showed me how they planned to wrap the pieces with soft pads, & then secure them further—which they did. They hand-carried the furniture through cramped doorways, around tight corners, down 3 flights of stairs, through heavy glass doors—with never a single touch against the wall or floor. Very impressive! Even my little Halloween pumpkins & autumn leaves on the narrow ledge at the top of the stairs remained intact & unruffled. Proof of care indeed! The same care was taken when moving bulky storage cabinets. Even though I told them the cabinets were cheap & they didn’t need to worry about them, they wrapped them with soft pads and secured them just as if they were expensive. They even made sure they didn’t—even temporarily to adjust their hold—set the cabinets on the thin base edge. They understood the stress this would put on the narrow wood, and so kept it level. The second move was just as remarkable: disassembling and carefully moving a very large walnut desk (thanks, Darrell!); wrapping & securing an imitation Eames lounge chair, being careful not to carry it by the arms, & keeping the “stalk” braced; etc. —Again, down 3 flights of stairs! Three noteworthy “above-&-beyond the call of duty” incidents deserve special commendation: —I had not finished clearing the storage cabinets before they came, especially several heavy boxes of fossils & memorabilia. But Gabriel & Robert moved them out without complaint, and without making me feel ashamed. I thought that was generous of them. —When we noticed a nail was beginning to pop out of the back panel of the cheap cabinets, Gabriel stopped and nailed it back in for me! Wow! Completely unnecessary—and so nice of him! —The second move included transferring a beautiful but very old and extremely fragile piece of driftwood trunk & roots. Barely touching it could set the bark crumbling or shatter the fine tips. I did not see how it was possible to move it unscathed. And yet Gabriel did! He secured only the bottom, less fragile part, so the dry bark & tips remained untouched. He painstakingly guided the rolling cart, & even sat in the back of the moving truck, holding the base to make sure it didn’t shift. He took such exquisite care of a piece so beloved by my mother for 58 years, it brought tears to my eyes. I am extremely grateful to him. Plus, we joked, he now qualified to get a job as a bomb-diffuser! ATTITUDE: Yes, they were completely professional! But they were also cheery and funny. Their upbeat attitude helped make a dismal time pleasant. I enjoyed their personalities. And above all, the attitude that was most beautiful to witness was the respect they had—for each other, for me, for the recipients on the other end, for the apartment staff they interacted with, & for the furniture (& driftwood!) itself. Robert and Jamison, while jolly & humorous when not lugging things, always showed deference to Gabriel, their boss, and listened carefully to his instructions. And the reverse respect was also evident: Gabriel would discuss with them how to handle the bulky moves; and the care he took of his fellow workers was noteworthy. He never urged them to hurry up (which I heard a roofing boss across the way do to his workers up on a third floor roof!). He made sure they took their time, and even preceded them, walking backwards down the stairs, to make sure they came down safely, since the bulky cabinets blocked their view of the stairs. He took good care of them. MOVE-MANIA is a perfectly-run company, with professional technique, friendly attitude, and reasonable prices. They move everything & make you smile besides. A happy experience!
